I meant to include these photos earlier.  This is a RARE car to me, but not nearly as rare as the one that I will include in a little while.

Ok, now we move inside the museum.  Cars, cars and MORE cars!

Again, I will default to Roscoe to narrate.  Some of these I have pictures of the placard that was displayed about the car.  I will include the link to the full size picture so you can read it.

1.

2.

3.  Roscoe found a pink car that he would not mind driving.  I wouldnt mind driving it either!

4.  JFK car.  Not the one he was shot in, but his personal one.

5.  Elvis car...

Notice the license plate...I wonder if that was original?

6.  Quite possibly the rarest car I have ever seen.

8.  I couldnt get a good shot of this.  Black didnt make up for good photographs.  But oh wowohwow whatta car...

9.  Next time I go back I will get a better shot of this car too...you can barely make it out, but it has a "boat-tail."

10.  Burma-Shave Signs...LOL

I didnt get pictures of half the cars in the Museum.  Each one was beautiful.  I will have to spend days up there next year, taking hundreds of photos.  Wow, its impressive.

Ok, so after the museum, we decide to go sight seeing.  Keep in mind the parking lot is like a car show all in itself.  As we were walking back to Rusty, I let out a scream that sounded alot like a little girl, and flat foot it by Roscoe like I had a snake chasing me.  He expecting the worse things imaginable, something like 1) there was a real snake, or 2) a major donut shortage just hit the land, took off tearing after me sobbing hysterically.

I failed to mention to Roscoe when I started screaming that I saw my dream truck.  You John Deere (Johnboy) and MM (sarba ann) lovers just read and weep...

All kidding aside, I have only saw 2 or 3 photos in my life of these, and never one in person.  A few "rat-rodders" will take a Farmall tractor front grill and put it on their car.  This guy made a "truckster,"  very high quality build.  I was VERY impressed.

I tried to get a good shot of the interior, but couldn't.  You can see that it is very neat, very well put together.

As we were leaving, I got this picture of a old Studebaker.  At least I think its what it was.

Now what fascinated me about this truck is the paint.  The way I understand it, the guy made a custom street rod out of this old truck, but left the old faded paint on it.  Instead of putting a shiny new paint job on it, he clear coated over the old worn out paint and in all reality just sealed it the way it was.  Coolest idea EVER.  And very very impressive truck.  The ride, the stance, the rims, the diamond plate in the bed and the custom rear lights and plate (mind went blank, cant think what its called where the brake lights are called...HELP ROSCOE!) they are in all just wow me.  To me, it really speaks volumes about the truck.

Next we get to exploring...

Lots of those cars were enough to make me drool...... None however, can make me drool like that Red 57 Chevy. I have dreamed about owning one of those since I was a lil boy. I came close to getting an old rusty one till the guy who owned it backed out. The one in that picture looks exactly like the one I have always dreamed of owning. So, if anyone is wondering what you could get me for Christmas or my next birthday see below.

DITTO THAT!! ^^^^

I have a red and white 57 chevy convertible diecast model car that sat on my dresser for most of my life. It's currently in the closet, but I may dig it out after these pictures.

Wished I would have known, Jason, I would have shown you while you were here.
Have you slapped that one dude from Indiana with a pie in the face today?

Just a few comments.

Chocolate gravy?? Never heard such. Sounds interesting. Really yucky if it's made like regular gravy with some chocolate thrown in. But if it's just basically a chocolate sauce or syrup, could be good. But I prefer country ham biscuits or plain biscuits.

Lasagna is awesome!

That first red Corvette? Love! '50s Corvettes are some of my favorite cars.
When you say "Jesus" you've said everything.

Old cars can be neat....but if it was a tractor show I'd have been far more interested and impressed. :P

Old cars take lots of money to keep up.

And new ones don't?

What doesn't take lots of money to keep up?  Could you tell me, please?

Maybe a rock.  That MIGHT not take a whole lot of maintenance.  But even that would require cleaning periodically unless you want it to have the dirt it accumulates on it.

Hence the reason men take lots of money to keep up.  It's their "toys" that are expensive.  LOL

So do older ladies, but  *some men* ( Bro Clarence) appreciate  and love them enough to do it.  :hypocrite:  :laughhard:  Now, I know she'll be making a trip to Arkansas. I REALLY,REALLY, love you, PF.  :laughhard: :couch:

And my bit of commentary on the last set of pics mini's posted....
1) is what Chey refers to as "Rusty's big brother". It is a 2 owner 1941 Chevy pickup that was bought just prior to Pearl Harbour, and spent several years in storage before its owner returned from the war. Part of me wants Rusty to look like this, part of me knows that if he did, I wouldn't have near as much fun driving him.

2) The vehicle everyone thinks of when the words "classic Car" is mentioned. A '57 Chevy convertible. A car so popular now there is a company making reproduction bodies. If you were rich, you could actually buy a brand new one. And for a bit fo trivia- ford actually outsold Chevrolet in 1957. Anybody know what a '57 Ford looks like? Didn't think so.... not near as popular now.

3) 1937 Packard. This was, I believe, the "Town Car" model and was usually chauffer driven. This particular example was purchased from a neighbour of '30's and '40's Movie star Mae West, and is believed to have actually been her car when new.
4)A car that Lincoln "donated" for JFK to use. He was so enamored of it, on at least one occasion, he "lost" his Secret Service protection and enjoyed a solo cruise. I bet that security leader was having a stroke......
5)A '65- I believe- Ranchero that Elvis bought new and used on one of his dude farms, for when he wanted to be a normal guy. Pretty sweet little car...
6) One of only Two Climber cars known to exist. I think there were approximately 200 ish made, and were built in North Little Rock, Arkansas between 1919 and 1923- I think. One of the road test/publicity stunts they used the car for was driving for 100k miles on Arkansas' muddy roads and then climbed the steps of the Capitol, where the Governor switched the engine off. I've tried to get the current Capitol Historian to allow me to get with Musuem staff and recreate this, but he's not fond of the idea.. :laughhard:
7) This car was bought by a man in Fort Smith from a lady taking it to the World's Fair in 1939. Imagine driving this from Arkansas to Chicago....
8)  Mercedes SLK500- I think. Around a late twenties early thirties model, I don't remember. Probably a $150k car
9)  1932- I think, too many cars) Auburn. One more on my "If I had Bill Gates' money" list. Probably $100-$200k car depending on the venue.

The Morgan Areo Mini posted is a handmade limited edition car, and cost around 110,000 pounds new. Somebody else do the conversion- I suspect it' be north of $15k. It has a top speed of around 170mph...

And Mini's beloved "truckster" was built around a 1946 Chevy pickup cab. Looks a bit different than Rusty, no? This is probably the first tractor grilled rod I've ever liked. Typically they're thrown together pieces of junk, but not this one- it WAS sweet.

And lastly- Mini's "patin'ed paint" Studebaker with the diamond plate bed, and rear valance- it was a '46 model,  and had a 454 Chevy big block hiding under the hood. I didn't care for the wheels, but all in all- a sweet driver.

my only issue with this "truck" is there is no RED on this FARMALL truck.  Hello????  John Deere's are green... Farmall's are red and on occasion, white, black, and the lovely shade of rust...but never green!  Yes...i do believe he was color blind.  (grin)

Nah, we have plenty of hickory logs. ;)

Well, since the Purple Fuzzy is on her way to beat Roscoe with her dentures, cane, and/or a hickory mallet, I will continue the narration of this here story about a grand adventure.

After leaving the car show, Roscoe took me sight seeing.  Keep in mind, neither one of us had a tablespoon of brains between us at this point.  We had drooled our brains out over cars for the previous 6, 8, or 10 hours, all which was spent walking around the caraplalooza. Luckily, he had most of the brains, so he drove.

Petit Jean State Park is beauuuutiful.

After stoping at one spot, we went to see the Turtle Rocks:

Then to the Rock House Cave:

Another shot of Rusty:

Cedar Falls:

Here is a link to a much larger photo of Cedar falls: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y256/minnesota68/Petit%20Jean/DSC00169.jpg  If you go here, and look at the full size, you can see a white speck right to the left of the falls, below the rock overhang.  Those are people.  The turtle rocks I showed you earlier are right on the other side of the ridge from where I took the picture of Cedar Falls.

Ok, a few things as I wrap up this story.

1.  Neither one of us got a picture with Bro Papa.  He is a great man, and has great BBQ to boot.  I will have to go back, so I can get more pictures of stuff like that.  But speaking of BBQ, if you have never had a BBQ Frito Pie, you must try one.  He takes Fritos, pulled pork, bbq sauce, coleslaw, shredded cheese, and makes a combination of them that marries the flavors together in holy matrimony.  Oh me oh my...if only I had taken more pictures!

2.  Speaking of pictures, I wish I had taken more.  There is so many more that I should have taken.  More of the car show, more of Petit Jean State Park.  More, more, more, more.

3.  Chellebelle and LouLou (and the kiddos) all went shopping.  Im sure it would have taken about .05 nano seconds before they were bored senseless with all the cars, but next time, they will be drug to the mountain, if for nothing else but to look at the beautiful scenery.

4.  It was well worth our time to meet such fine folks as Roscoe, LouLou, and Chey.  I say this openly, and with a blessing towards this fine family:  Their house has the peace of God residing on it.  I walked it, felt right at home.  If given 5 minutes, I would have had my shoes off, kicked back, and started snoring.  Thats saying something right there.  It also shows that LouLou is a Proverbs 31 kinda gal.  And it shows that Roscoe respects her enough to let her be.  God bless you!

5.  You should never go to that area without a Roscoe to guide you.  I said it before, but Roscoe loves his town.  He is a Ambassador of Arkansas.  God bless him for that too!  Every building, every person, every street has a story.  And he tells them with grace.

6.  You should take more than 1 1/2 days to visit.

7.  Rusty.  The star of this whole thread.  Let me just ramble about Rusty.  Rusty is not some perfect show car.  Thank goodness!  Rusty is a drivable, 100% work of art, that you dont dare stop unless you want to be surrounded because everyone wants to talk about him.  Ive had the chance to ride in top notch street rods, muscle cars, and such like.  Rusty is a class all of his own.  He is comfortable on a dirt road, and comfortable in the city.  Never has a car matched a person so well, like Rusty and Roscoe.  Then, as photos show, Roscoe trusted me to drive Rusty.  This is a treat that is a once in a life time treat.  Seriously.  Driving a 1946 Chevy is AWESOME.  Rusty has no air (unless you count the 2-55 air...2 windows down at 55 mph) but you dont notice.  Rusty has no radio, he makes his own noise.  Rusty has character.  And NEVER take a photograph of another truck in the presence of Rusty.  He got a little temperamental when I did that.  Sorry...LOL  Roscoe had to apologize for my obvious stupidity...then Rusty was good to go.

8.  Mexican Coke-a-Cola (and or Pepsi):  Made with real cane sugar.  Good on its own right, but drank while driving down the road in Rusty...100x better.

9.  Ice cream.  Also good in its own right, enjoyed while driving Rusty makes it better, so much better...

And now, a parting shot of Rusty, driven by Roscoe:

Since this is the conclusion of our grand adventure, I need to add a couple thoughts.... (Have you ever met a preacher that could simply dismiss when given back the microphone? I haven't.  :laughhard:)

Mini and I have been communicating by text for some time, after discovering via GP that we both were car nuts, and had more than a few veiwpoints the same. Now, I am a real cop, and as such, am typically suspicious and not as trusting as some of you might think. I have never before met anyone online and then in person, and I have never invited anyone online to my house. But the more I talked (texted) with Mini, and the more I read his posts, the more I began to get a feel for who and what he was. Now, anyone, especially cops who have worked with me, will tell you I am prone to snap judgements.
I was known for pulling up at a disturbance  and within a couple of minutes have one party in cuffs. I can tell you within five minutes of meeting you if I like you and that doesn't tend to change. Mini's posts and conversation led me to believe he was like the old time Pentecostals I've been raised with my entire life.
Also, as I have posted before, I am very new at the whole preaching game. Mini has been there, done that for years, and has tons of good counsel for someone like me. He has been generous with this counsel, for which I am exceedingly grateful.

So I invited him to wander down for the weekend. I figured, if we didn't get along, no big deal. I had began to think he wouldn't make it, and resigned myself to texting him pics every few minutes to rub in what he was missing. Then he informs me that Chellebelle and kiddos may wander this way too. Now I'm a little nervous. I've always been tonguetied around women. Especially beautiful ones- just ask my wife.

Speaking of my wife, the news that Chelle was coming made her day. She's always looking for a new shopping companion, and having read some of Mini's texts to me, she figured that he would have married someone compatible with her, as he and I seemed to think alot alike. :biglaugh:

Then they arrived. When Mini texted me, that they were in my county, all I could think of was how bad the yard looked and all I hadn't got done, and what if these folks were stuck up? No worries. Within  minutes, I felt like I'd known Mini and his family my entire life. When Lou and Chey got home, they seemed to hit it off, and we had a great time over dinner. Lou decided that she would call in and go shopping with Chelle., which is something she rarely does. She doesnt call in. Ever.

Reports are that they had a great time! I was concerned that I talked too much to Mini... I rattled nonestop. :biglaugh: But, among all the banter and joking, I was the reciepiant of some pearls of wisdom concerning the ministry. And just as important, I found that my snap judgement was dead on. Mini and his wonderful family are the type of people I love to be around. Someone who loves God, is devoted to Him, and shows it without coming across as "holier than thou."
We absolutely loved having the opportunity to meet them and spend time with them..... but Brionna has got to talk more! :laughhard: Our little heathen/princess loved all of the Porters, but told me repeatedly that Sis Porter was "so pretty". When it comes to Brennen, though, she'll just say he's funny and get fighting mad if you call him her boyfriend. :laughhard:

In short (closing for the fifth time), this was, I hope the beginning of a yearly tradition and a great friendship. Our home is open to Mini and his family anytime, and we would feel it an honor  anytime they come by.  Loun and I both wish they lived a little closer.Maybe we might have to set up a GP meeting around here one year........ Oh, and I think Rusty likes you too, Mini. Speaking of cars and people being suited to one another- well, an old truck looks like it'd suit you too. Alot better than that Karman Ghia! :laughhard:
