T'is the season for leftovers in every corner of the fridge.  I am having difficulty deciding what to eat for supper.

Spent the entire evening in the ER.  The little mama that comes over a couple of times a week for a glass of tea and usually a meal had an aneurysm.  There's a lot of bleeding on the brain, her brain is swollen because of it and her blood pressure was 600 at some point.  She went into some kind of coma and now they have been into her head trying to drain some of the blood so she's in a med. induced coma.  They said she'd probably be in the hospital a good few weeks and then physical therapy depending on how much brain damage she has.  They expect it to be a significant amount of work for her recovery.  They are right now going into her head and putting tubes or coils or something.  If that doesn't do the trick, she has to have even more major brain surgery at some point.

She's 50 something, diabetic, overweight.  It's suspected, since she doesn't eat right like she is supposed to that her blood sugar got out of whack, made her sick.  We know it gave her a horrible headache. She was vomiting, etc so fiercely that it cause the already stressed blood vessel to burst.  Me and another person were amused at the idea of this little feisty mama being stuck in a hospital bed getting after people because she is such a choleric.  We adore her regardless... lol

And then we agreed, one good thing is that she will be on a diabetic diet for the month or so that she is there.  It shouldn't take such drastic measures to get a person in a position to eat right but I'm convinced there is a real lust about food that at least some people deal with.  People don't want to give up or even just minimize and balance out, what is literally killing them.

I'm exhausted.

Dear me.

My sister asked me to clean the apartment building tomorrow morning....  Other than that I need to tend fowl and clean the walks off at church....

I still have to do cards...I suppose I'll aim for that Friday and Saturday at this point.....  Changeover from Christmas to Valentines Day.  Lord.

MellowYellow:  I have a theory that the best way to start a new diet lifestyle is to move to a different part of the country where you don't HAVE the familiar foods you love.  Or very many familiar foods at all, for that matter.  I know if I moved to the north, where they don't have fried catfish, buttermilk pie, pan-fried chicken livers, etc. I'd probably find it easier to "reset" my tastes to healthier things.

Morning everyone :hi:

We got around 4-6 inches of snow here. Roads weren't bad but there were plenty of accidents. Someone in front of me slid off the road and almost caused a 3-4 car wreck.

Everyone made it to work safe and sound, thank goodness.

I completely agree with this. I think we all do this. We think we can sacrifice other things, other habits that cause us to stumble, but we never think that food is also a cause. We eat what we want, when we want without a care for how it's effecting our bodies now, and in the long-run. It's HARD....hard to change your eating habits. Hard to change your portion sizes (because ANY restaurant gives you 2-3 times more food than a normal portion). This topic convicts me....it's a spiritual thing for me...I think God intended it to be, but we don't see it that way. Not saying I'm perfect in anyway in this area, because I eat too much, and the wrong things at times too. But...I dunno....

I'm at home, listening to the halleluia chorus from Handel's Messiah.  Found the record at a flea market.

I, too, am at home. List of things I need to do, including a trip to town that may wait until this evening. Managed to pay a bill off.
Oh, and Bank of America's internal communications, uh, inhale strongly and rapidly, with a great amount of suction. We closed on our loan last thursday- we had our mortgage with Bank of America, and refinanced with the SAME company. They call me this morning wanting me to pay a late payment.....the only payment we've ever been late on was this last month, which we were told not to make and use to close the new loan, by their people.
I explained the situation. The lady's response " So, can we bring this current by you making a payment today? " No. I am not giving you $650 for you to draw interest off of for a month or how ever long before you decide to refund it to me. She wanted to warn me it "could adversely affect your credit" Lady, for God's sake, I refinanced WITH YOUR COMPANY. I DIDN'T MISS A PAYMENT!
Morons. Stupidity reigns supreme. So help me Lord, if my credit score takes a hit, they will too........And that's my morning rant.

I've got the post Christmas blues. At least it will snow tonight and tomorrow. That will help as well as going to the mall to be around people.
My hubby's nickname is shep and that would make me ladyshep. :)

Going to the mall usually puts me in a worse mood lol I don't like being around all those people and most are rude.

Trying to figure out what to make for dinner. I guess he could eat leftovers and I can just eat a piece of chicken like I did last night. I kinda liked the cheese on top of the chicken. I shouldn't have put cheese on both sides though :smirk2: lol This time I think I'll season it up then wait until it's almost done to put a little cheese on top.

Isaac, we do have fried catfish.  Both the big crunchiness and with corn breading.  I wouldn't consider that unhealthy if it was in a good oil, a heartier breading, in moderation, and in conjunction with some nutritious veggies.  I have never seen buttermilk pie but a good buttermilk is healthy so I don't know about that one.  I think before all the processed foods, those things were actually all healthy and so it got passed down from generations but people chose cheaper/convenient other ways
to make it, and some also got out of balance till it is void of nutrition and sustanance.

Did you know that your stomach has... oh what was it, like 7 different type of sensory cells.  They read different things that tell us whether we should continue to eat or stop.  Some measure fat content, some measure actually volume, some measure nutrition, some measure viable energy burning substance,  and so on. If our food is void of much to keep us going, our bodies will still feel hungry.

From what I'm learning, there are many foods that just need a bit tweaked and balanced using whole foods (or less processed), to make it a healthy or healthier choice.

Jenn, I was just talking to someone about Luke 12:23.  How the world propagates food practically like sex.  We're bombarded from all over the place to eat larger portions, excess "treat" things in sugars and fats, and to crave and urge for it even when we don't need it.  It's kinda crazy.  Jesus didn't want us to focus to much on food, but they lived in a day where whole foods weren't an issue.  What and when God provided is not the same context as someone gives you a box of twinkies and that's God's provision. LOL What God made is enough.  By eating to pacify our flesh instead of just to sustain us, food becomes a huge focus.  Eat garbage today and be diabetic/heart problems tomorrow where you have to think about everything you eat for the rest of your life.  So now, I find there is a focus to be put on food for the purpose of people getting a right perspective about it so we can move forward and go on with our lives w/o being oppressed by our health.  Then we can truly not worry about food at all. As much as I talk about food, I actually crave less and care less about eating in general.  But I believe it's cause God is teaching me some sense in what I eat so that it's not causing me issues later.  I get excited about feeding my family decently and knowing that it's going to sustain them.  I get excited about others being better stewards and feeling better in their life so that their thoughts and energy can go to bigger and better things!

It's always a work in progress though and much easier to say than do.  Thank God for His grace.  At the end of the day how we treat this temple is less about the physical and more about how we feel about God and what He's given us anyway.  Just like standards and anything else.  I think the understanding gets a little lost when we see spiritual people who care so little about their bodies that we think it's irrelevant.  I think our generation is learning it is relevant and is connected to our spirituality.  Also, people like Joy Haney and Vesta Mangun have taught later in their years the importance of taking care of how we go about denying our flesh, to do it wisely.  Those are women I greatly admire.

Worked on Nathan's family tree on ancestry.com.  It's his mom's side but it's pretty neat. This was a good emotional holiday for him.  His mom talked about his bio-dad in private and it allowed Nathan to be able to release the emotions he's had all these years about it all.  It's almost like he is able to truly grieve now that it's ok for him to accept openly about what he never had and also lost.  I wonder if that is kind of how my dad feels since he was an orphan.  I look forward to the day when he finds Jesus and can be healed in that subject.  Now we are allowed to speak of it in the open as well.  No more reminding the kids that we are going to see one side of the family and not to speak of it when we go directly over to see the other side... lol

The only thing I don't like about the genealogy  websites is that it costs so much to have access to information.  So we are going to pay for a month sometime soon and try and diligently work on it and then not be a paid subscriber for awhile.  It's too time consuming to do every month and costs too much to pay and not use it... lol

We went out and used up some gift cards.  Thank the Lord, brown dress shoes are on sale at Target for Hannah.  The girl is going through sizes again like she's a giant.

People are generally pleasant and nice in these parts, God's country, but if they are rude, it cheers me up to be nice to them back. I like to do that. Well, we went to Walmart instead which was nice. Then we went to the post office and then to the library. Back home now.

Roscoe - Sorry. :/ You couldn't PAY me to deal with BofA, and that's a fact. We used them in one of the corporation I worked for in my former life, and... let's just say I would NEVER want to use them for banking needs.

Yeah. That. :)

Christmas break is already starting to get to me. *wry grin* I'm about ready to send two boys to the zoo. Or maybe CheeseHead's BirdBrain Farm. He could use two slaves, right? :bigcheese: It's amazing how much more NORMAL teen boys can act when they're busy doing productive things. Give them time off, and they turn into animals. :-\ Annoying, under foot, loud, and very pesky. LOL!! But I still love them to pieces. ;)

That's all I'm going to say about that....

Went to work for my sister today, did a couple errands and cleaned off the walk at church, came home, went to church, came home.  I got back up the driveway in 2 tries.  Go, little Toyota go!

My Trailblazer won't start....I think it must be a bad ignition switch...it's had a few bouts of trouble lately, it seems to be shorted somehow....  I'll have to figure that out and get the stupid thing fixed somehow.  Bah.

Chseeads

Roscoe, I'm blessing you for your hateful statements toward the moronicity of Bank of America.  It sounds like something I would say.  I'm proud.

And Shrewby, yes, send them on.  :freaky2:

Took Grandma to pay the phone bill, get gas, go to Wal-Mart, and while we were out I went to get eggs.  The last time I went there to get eggs I wiped out their field gate with my minivan - didn't put a scratch on my van, but it sure mangled the gate.  They still hadn't called me back about how much it would be for a new one, so I asked while I was there.  It was much less than I had feared for a big metal gate.

Today has been a lazy day... the first one since my vacation started almost two weeks ago.  That trip was the single only productive thing I did all day, unless you count "proofreading" and editing a few albums.  And tomorrow has even less to do, because we already went to the store today so we don't really need to even do that tomorrow.

It's actually kind of nice.  :)

Howdy!

I'm still enjoying my time away!

It's been really nice to just chill and have fun. I learned to play rummikub, and I love it! And I won a game of Phase 10 tonight.

Tomorrow, Bubba has to work, so we won't have a vehicle...so it's another day of doing nothing, and that's fine by me!
Have you slapped that one dude from Indiana with a pie in the face today?

SippinTea

I blessed you for that, Cheesy.

Mel! Look at you! You found time for ol' friends, even in the middle of a vacation! *sniff* I'm so proud of you.

*yawn* Is it bedtime yet?

Morning, everyone :hi:

Glad today's Friday. I gave up looking for a camera. I have one but it got washed and the picture is kinda blurry now. Battery doesn't last very long either, BUT I was just thinking about charging the battery all night tonight and all day tomorrow and hoping and praying it lasts for when I need it. It's a decent camera..we just won't get the best pictures out of it due to the screen.
