I don't like red velvet. But again, I don't like chocolate desserts. Bleck!

I love red velvet.  But, of course, it would kill me graveyard dead so I don't eat it.  :smirk2:

I know you have probably answered this before, but why would it kill you?  Do you have a medical condition, diagnosed by a doctor?

I've had low sugar issues before, I avoid sweets.....okay, I flee from them.

At the risk of Lady Chel again noting me saying I don't feel well and doing nothing about it, I feel like I've got a fever and something ekse wrong. I actually plan on doing something about it though, and shall leave the office shortly, take some medicine, and go to bed.

Isn't low sugar caused by your pancreas not producing glucose, not the consumption of sugar?  And have you had this diagnosed by a doctor?  If you had low sugar, you would suffer from anything from mild dysphoria to seizures and unconsciousness. Rarely would low sugar cause death.

Hypoglycemia in his case can be caused by the pancreas producing too much insulin... as a result of a sudden increase in blood sugar (consuming sugar, or a different type of sugar than normal). And while yes, it can "only" cause unconsciousness, if you are unconscious because of low blood sugar, and don't get more sugar in your blood fast- the result is your brain starving to death... because your brain lives off of sugar. The longer you are unconscious due to low blood sugar, the  more brain cells die. The whole reason you go unconscious is because it is your body's way of trying to conserve every possible bit of sugar to keep your brain alive as long as possible.

whew... not sure where all that came from... lol!

Ok, but what I am asking, if he has low blood sugar, he needs to eat some sugar, not avoid it, right?

After rereading your post Sunshiney, I guess my confusion is 3 fold:  1) is it low blood sugar if you are producing to much sugar, 2) What is Seths problem, and 3) (no offense Seth) have you had this diagnosed, or are you being a hypochondriac?

Diabetics more typically have problems with high blood sugar levels, though it can sometimes go low through certain circumstances.

Diabetes is when your blood sugar is to high, which I have. However mine started out as Hypoglycemia as a teenager. If I ate any type of really sweet cereal for breakfast my sugar would usually bottom out before lunch. Later it turned into Diabetes in my early 20's. One doctor explained it this way "Your pancreas produced so much insulin in reaction to sugar in your system that it kind of wore itself out leading to diabetes". I don't know how scientific his theory was but that's what he told me. Cheese does have reason to watch the sugar intake, but in moderation it shouldn't hurt him to much.

What I'm wondering is if he was at the point where truly "ANY SUGAR WILL KILL ME!!! GAHHHHH!" there would be a huge record of doctor visits, insulin, medicine, and careful moderation on his (and godplace's) part.

I know a girl who is truly allergic to high fructose corn syrup.

I've wondered if I was hypoglycemic before because I get extremely tired after I eat. No matter what it is. Sometimes I have not been able to stay awake.

I'm too cheap to go to the dr. lol

Well if his sugar is low insulin would kill him much quicker than sugar. lol

Yall are forgetting that while he may have a low sugar problem, the reason he thinks that one bite would kill him is cause he is a hypochondriac.

I'm at the church. not for long though, so I will bid you all adeu.
Have you slapped that one dude from Indiana with a pie in the face today?

Well, Lord.

You have all run amuck while I've been at the church power washing.....   Lands, as much as their is to do and as long as it takes, you'd think I was taking care of the Brooklyn Tabernacle, not a little country church. lol  :-?

Anyways, my input on all your collective above ramblings:

Jerbil, if you have low blood sugar, you are supposed to eat a high protein and low carb diet.  Like part of what Cheryl mentioned, an influx of sugars into your system can make your pancreas throw out too much insulin and make your glucose drop too much, yadda yadda....  Protein and crud breaks down slower than carbs and helps to keep things on a more even keel....  You're to avoid refined sugars especially, and things like white bread, and so on...  You get plenty of naturally occuring carbs and sugars in lots of foods.  If your sugar is particularly low at a given point in time, then yes, you should eat something of a sweet sort to bring it back up, but otherwise you avoid the sweets....

Yes, I have doctored for it in the past.  I have largely gotten better, thank God.

Mel-Mel does have some truth in her statement on the hypochondria, because honestly, if I took a big mouthful of delicious red velvet cake, ice cream, punkin' pie, or etc. etc., just because I put it in my mouth I would feel ill and panicked.  lol

I haven't ate "sweets" for years now.  And I don't eat white bread, or actually much bread in general period....I don't do hardly any pasta either.  I don't do artificial sweeteners or caffeine either.  (Those actually are things the doctor mentioned as well.)  Normally the only thing I eat that has artificial sweeteners is chewing gum or cough drops, lol....very very rarely perhaps a piece of sugar free candy.

Who is Cheryl?

And to elaborate on that, it is from Mel-Mel calling me and telling me all about "Cheryl" said this and that and whatever....and I thought "Cheryl" was just somebody that I wasn't aware of, but then it finally became clear she was saying "Chel" not "Cheryl" but it sure to the world sounded like she was saying "Cheryl." lol  And so, henceforth, she has become Cheryl.
