I know there has been threads on this before, but they are gone now, and lately I have had a fixation with my Crock-pot. I am cooking Chili in it tomorrow. But I was wondering what are some good things to cook in the Crock-pot?
Stew with dumplings!!
Although I've never cooked it - I don't have a crock pot... I want to try some time because I LOOVVEEE stew with dumplings!!
This is my sister's recipe---she makes it as a side but it is good enough to have as a main dish. My BIL thinks adding ham to it would be great!
Corn Casserole with Cream Cheese
1 bag frozen corn or 2 cans of corn, drained
1 8 ounce package cream cheese
2 tablespoons sugar
6 tablespoons juice from canned corn or water
Soften cream cheese to room temperature and cream with liquid and sugar. Put corn in slow cooker and add cream cheese mixture. Cook on low for 4 hours.
ooohhh . . i'm glad you started this thread. i have a crock pot and don't use it nearly enough. i tend to buy the frozen "crock pot" meals that you can throw in all together . . . but that's as much because i don't have any recipies for it as because i'm lazy.
chicken & rice is really good in it....
just toss in your chicken with a can of cream of mushroom soup before heading to church sunday morning, and when you get home cook some rice :thumbsup2:

More recipes than you'll know what to do with. Just pick a type of food you're in the mood for and they have it. :thumbsup2:
I like to put boneless ribs in the Crock Pot and add whatever kind of marinade I'm in the mood for and let it cook all day. Delicious!!!!!
MMMMMMMM
This was a great thread idea......
Awesome idea!!!!! :thumbsup2:

I'm putting steak with barbecue sauce in mine in the AM before I leave for Church. I so love to come home to the smell of it!!!!!! Yummmm......

It is!!!
Will have mashed potatoes with it and prolly some green beans. I'm having company so I figured I'd make something besides spaghetti or lasagna!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!! I don't cook many big meals because it's just Janessa and I and we don't eat much between the two of us.
I have some chicken wings I am putting on tomorrow morning, with BBQ and I will make mashed potatoes and corn when I get home....mmmmmmm
With all this talk about food, I think it's time for a snack!!!!!!

I like my crock pot, but the only thing that actually has gone in it has been the Betty Crockers Beef Stew. I should try a couple of these recipes out on the boys sometime soon.
I am actually thinking of pulling out my crockpot this weekend and making chicken and dumplins

The Soup is the Liquid :) It gets thinner... and it turns out great... You will like it!

cool...will have to try that......oh...another question...what setting do you put it on? High, Low, or warm?
Right now.... Some ground up hamburger meat with a good dose of Dave's Gourmet Insanity Sauce! Once it is served on a toasted bun, it is liberally sprinkled with Feta cheese. The ultimate manly mans BBQ!
(And I HATE Sloppy Joe's!)
That sounds great Randy!
Oh and Dustin??? LOL Sorry I didn't check back in...
you but it on low heat for like 7 to 8 hours
I've got chicken in my crock pot. We're gonna have chicken for dinner tonight. Then tomorrow we're gonna make chicken salad.
I didn't read all three pages....
I make a variation of chicken rice stew. You "brown" the chicken pieces, throw them in the crock pot with a couple cans of chicken broth and rice. I add some onion and garlic salt and let that cook for a few hours on low. When the rice is almost all the way done, about dinner time, I toss in some frozen broccolli. When the rice and broccolli are done I put some frozen corn in, the corn cooks really fast so you wait a few minutes and serve.
I make my spagetti sauce in the crockpot if I have errands to do during the day.
I make beef stew 2 different ways. One with cream of mushroom soup, carrots and potatoes & maybe a tad onion. And the other with tomato juice, carrots, gr. beans, potatoes, onions. My hubby likes it both ways. The best, juiciest meat is when I coat the stew meat with peppered flour, saute' it and then put it in the crockpot. I read that in a recipe once, it said that it seals in the juices and creates a self thickening element to the soup/gravy.
I put a roast in about 10 this morning...took it out about 5:30...woo doggy. This thread inspired the roast and trust me, it was some good eating.
u going to share
I made an awesome roast this week. I should have waited to make it for Sunday afternoon though.
I need to re-read this thread again and start cooking somthing other than Tuna Helper.
well theres hamburger helper
:laughhard:
A friend just gave us some deer/elk? meat and I'm going to make a stew with some.
I have pork chops with gravy in my crock pot..........it will be our supper!!! yummy!!!
sharon
I just put stuff on for Pork chops :-) Should be done for a late dinner.
:fork:
this is a recipe i came up with recently and it ended up being really good, and you can change it up to suit you very easily
you take potatoes, onions, cabbage, cut them all up put them in your crockpot
at walmart they have this salsa, its their brand (sams choice), its black bean and corn salsa. pour part of that over the vegetables, then put in some porkchops or chicken (i havent tried beef, may work fine) then pour more of the salsa on top and cook over night on low.
you could mix and match this in many ways. but the salsa is very mild and makes a very good start.
it is a very inexpensive meal, yet you can make it go far if need be.
I need to start planning ahead better and using my crock pot. I'm sure we'd get more nutritious meals that way.

Did the guests drag this one up too? I had forgot about it, its SOOO old. ;)
Back on topic, I use my crockpot about once a week now...its just so much easier to have a good hot meal ready when I wake up in the evenings. And I dont have to dirty up a whole lot of dishes.
This is what I made today...it was SOOOO good.
I went to the store this morning and bought a can of garlic cream of mushroom soup, 2 cans of tomato soup, and a can of garlic mushroom diced tomatoes...I added it all together with some sugar and milk and let it cook in the crockpot all day, and now I have some awesome soup! And plenty for leftovers!

ooh that sounds really good.
now that i have thi the giant boy home, i need to cook better and healthier. i'm so used to eating nothing, but it's not like that when you aren't alone.
i'm going to print that soup recipie and that corn one, too. that corn one sounds like a good pot luck dish.
thanks guys. got any more?
I made that soup recipe up while I was standing in the soup isle. LOL I saw they had garlic roasted cream of mushroom soup but I REALLY wanted tomato soup, so I figured I would just combine them, and when I went to get the canned tomatoes that I always add to the tomato soup, I saw they had garlic and mushroon diced tomatoes too....perfect!!
It turned out sooooooo good. :yum: I think I will make that now instead of just the regular tomato soup....plus, I never add water...milk is the key, ;) and just a tad of sugar to take the bitterness out.
I think the tomatoes were Del Montie, and the soup of course was Campbells.
fabulous. and then do you eat that with grown up grilled cheese? i don't like it with bacon, but i use sour dough bread and a good tomatoe slice.
Nope...I just eat it with crackers. I love grilled cheese though, I just love the soup by itself.
Ok so...a new variation on that corn stuff...I took the leftover corn stuff, and mixed it in a bowl with salt and pepper and eggs, and put in in a pan and baked it, I made an awesome corn souflee. :fork:

Im making this tonight. Instead of the crock pot, im making it on the stove.
when my sis moved to Louisiana 4 1/2 years ago, she took the corn/creamcheese in the crockpot thing and NOBODY TOUCHED IT!!!!!!!! She had to take it ALL home..............Everyone thought it was "strange".
A couple mos later, a sister in the church asked her to make it again, because she wanted to try it.
It became a HUGE SUCCESS!!!! Now, she NEVER leaves the church with even one kernal of corn in her crockpot!!!! LOL

I'm not fond of corn, so I wouldn't like it, but most people do.

I picked up one at a garage sale. I think they cost almost as much as the crock pot itself, if you buy them new and shipping charges were too much to mess with ebay.
this sounds like it might be good
Easiest Crockpot Beef Roast
1 beef roast
1 envelope onion soup mix
1 can cream of mushroom soup (optional)
1 can of soda
I used Sprite for the soda. I've read about people using Coke and GingerAle as well.
This was fantastic! I served it with plain white rice but it would also be good with egg noodles or mashed potatoes to soak up the "gravy" like juice.
http://www.cheapcooking.com/easy-recipes.htm
this is how I make my roast but I dont add the soda....it makes a thicker gravy.
Its awesome!
Sounds simple, for sure.
Maybe I'll do chicken or something in the crockpot for tomorrow. Need to see what I've got.
http://www.50plusfriends.com/cookbook/crockpot/index-5b.html
tons of recipes here
Yesterday, took a family pk of chicken thighs and chicken legs, dumped 2 bottles of BBQ sauce and 1 cup water in and let it cook all day!! YUM>
Fell, off the bones, so today, used the leftovers on BBQ chicken sandwiches!!!!!
yummers!!
