Loving this site... thank you so much for posting it!
That is actually a pretty cool website. :thumbsup2:
woooooooo hooooooooo
I already found me a new hairdo!! yea!! Requires no bobby pins (which are extinct anyway....LOL) and is held up by a hair stick!! halleluah!!
Sharon
just wondering.....
Has anyone tried or used those ficcare hair clips??? It looks like it's all the rave on the hair sites........
Sharon
Ohhh I LOVE Ficcares... if you buy the REAL Ficcares they are like $40/each and they are real metal and HEAVY and they hurt my head! I buy the fake ficcares and they are plastic and much easier to use!! LOL
where can you buy the fake ones? walmart??
just wondering?
sharon
Yep... I have bought them at Walmart, Target, Meijer... also the accessory stores in the mall like Claire's or Icing... They have different sizes too. I have several different sizes, not to mention colors. I like the small ones if I'm only gonna put up half of my hair or I am putting it up in sections.
This weekend I found fake Ficcares that were thinner metal than the real ones. I think they were made by Goody's.
I bought one at Target, but I never use it because it has daisy cutouts that tend to hang onto my hairs - yanking them out one at a time, of course. :smirk2:
:o Ouch! :smirk2:
thanks for the site!
i've gotten several tips for repairing my hair... it's broken off nearly a foot in about a year and a half (was mid-calf, now barely to my knee). think i'm gonna try some of those do's too. seems like most of the ladies on there don't have really l-o-n-g hair though.... just to the waist or a little more.
I wanted to see that site sooooo bad, but this is what I get:

yes, you do!
that site may not help you alot with hairstyles retta, but it will prolly give you some good tips on getting your hair to thicken up and not break so easily ;)
Check out the "chinese bun"............It's my new favorite!! It only takes a minute to do and it looks very cute!!!!
I have hair to my knees!!!! It's pretty thick too! My MIL LOVES my new hair do too!!! I don't do it every day, but it seems to distribute the weight of my hair across my whole head instead of in 1 place, thus I have less headaches too....Ain't that cool???
If I get a chance, I'll post a pic!!
Sharon
I love some of the styles and stuff but I am not very good at doing my own hair... LOL :( :( :sadbounce:
For YEARS I did that figure-8 bun with a Ficcare!! You could do different variations on it... for instance: high, medium or low, tight or loose, slicked back, curls in the front, curls coming out of the bun...
That chinese bun looks really simple too... have to try that tomorrow!
I also did a figure 8 bun for years.....LOL I used a bobby pin to hold the "tail" under it though.....I may try it again with a hair stick....
The chinese bun is very quick and easy.....(for me at least)....I am the "no fuss" kind of girl ...that if it can't be done in a minute or two, then I don't do it...... I just put a pony tail band in, insert stick, and split my pony tail in 2 pieces and start winding...........I "tuck" the tail underneath the bun and use 1 bobby pin to "hold" the tail in. I pull my hair as tight as I can tolerate so that it looks fairly smooth. I really really like this hair do.....
sharon
p s ....am still looking for the ficcare type clip. All we have is Wal mart and we don't have any here.....I'll look elsewhere when we go to a bigger city........... that's the pits about living in a smalllllll town.
Ok.............................I finally went to Kansas City.....yea yea.........
At claire's I bougt 4 sets of hair sticks (chop sticks) they had a sale buy 1 get 1 50% off...................so I have a variety of some really nice and not too gaudy......
At Target I bought 2 goody beak clips (ficcare knock offs) and I am anxious to try them.........
No luck on the bobby pins...........ughhhhhhh I think they are truly extinct............
sharon
I had forgotten about the chinese bun. Sunday I was getting ready for church and was VERY frustrated with my hair. I had washed it in the morning and by evening was STILL too damp to curl. I couldn't get it to do anything, not even the figure 8. Then I remembered you talking about the chinese bun so I went on the website and looked it up. Got it perfect on the first try and have worn it like that every day since!! LOL I found that having really long thick hair if I put in 2 chopsticks going opposite directions (parrallel, just one on top of the other, one coming from the left, one coming from the right) that it holds MUCH tighter. Everybody loves it. My chiropractor knocked it down though when he was cracking my neck!! LOL I can now do it in about 15 seconds with no mirror!! woohoo!!
LOL............(about your poor chiropractor)....... I just worry about hugging someone and poking their eye out!!!
Glad you liked the chinese bun. I really like it too and have worn my hair like that too almost every day. I have noticed that the ends of my hair do not seem as "frizzy" after wearing my hair this way. Everyone has commented on my hair since I changed to this hairstyle and the other night after church I was showing all the ladies how to do it.....it's soooo easy and not needing the Mirror is a wonderful change.....LOL
Thanks for the 2 chopstick idea.....I'll have to try it. My hair is past my knees and very thick........
Sharon
I wear my hair up like oh maybe twice a year... I usually hate putting it up, hate having it up... you get the idea
I've had my hair up for 10 days in a row now LOL I love that chinese bun! its so fast and easy I don't have time to get annoyed with it and I don't need a bunch of chemicals to keep it in place... its been a fun change (I have it back down again now and I keep burying my face in it and playing with it, I did miss it while it was up lol)
thanks for posting the website!!!
I can't get half of those hair styles to work for me.. I promise. I am just not hair talented... I can do others to make it look alright but for myself I can't do anything. I tried the Chinese Bun. I think I got it to turn out half okay... Maybe...
Any other easy ones on that site that I might have missed that you all like?
I just tried that Chinese bun -- FABULOUS!!!
Love it.
Always looking for new ways to put up my hair for work.
Nai
LOL... I can't get the french twist for nothing. :tearhair:
:sadbounce:
I didn't find hairstyles for curly hair.. It's discrimination! SO kidding.. *grin* My hair is fairly easy to fix, though - I've been doing pin (barrel) curls a LOT lately, because they're easy. :biglaugh:
I am enjoying finding styles I DO NOT have to curl my hair for.
This one is fun, but I'm going to angle the hair stick next time.
Nai
The little girl I am babysitting today loves to have her hair fixed so I did the chinese bun ( I had to use a colored pencil--no chopsticks...lol) and it looks adorable!
I have curly hair; it refuses to lay flat and behave. *grin*
I have curly hair too but it has gotten so long now that it's much less curly due to the weight. When it was only bra-strap length it was really curly, now that it's halfway between my behind and my knees, it's much straighter... :sadbounce:
Try the Chinese bun at an angle.
It rocks.
Nai

:biglaugh:
i'm LOVIN the chinese bun too! i started doin a small side part/sweep in the front with the chinese bun, and have gotten soooooooooo many compliments! tryin to give my hair a break from the curling iron and freeze-it for a while. one thing i love is that i can even do this if my hair is damp/wet. i need to buy some more hair sticks though.... right now i only have a pair of silver w/rhinestones, and black w/rhinestones. i tried doing it with some decorative chopsticks a friend brought me from tiawan several years ago, but they are too long (stick out too far on the sides).
When we went to the mall last week I picked up 4 pair of chopsticks at Claire's. They have a really good selection at a reasonable price. They had a sale, buy 1 get 1 50% off. Regular price was 4.50. 4 pairs cost me like $12 dollars. I prefer the ones without stones, but that's just me. I like the ones that just kind of "blend" in my hair so they're not too noticeable. .........
sharon
I tried the braided version of the chinese bun, I really liked it but it pulled more so it gave me a headache...........ughhhh
i really LOVE how light my hair feels in the chinese bun! and it's great as a casual do, or for sundays :thumbsup2:
I have gotten SO many compliments on the chinese bun. I have probably 4 or 5 pair of chopsticks but I went to Claire's this weekend and bought 2 more. I did the angled chinese bun like Nai suggested for church on Sunday night... REALLY cute!! Josh usually prefers my hair big and curly but he likes this hairdo!!
I did that French twirl thing the other day too... That was fab. My hair actually worked at it! :)
I also tried the triple coil bun -- that takes a bit more doing but it does look good when it works.
Another variation on the Chinese bun -- I did this Sunday night -- placed it on the side and securely pinned it and then pulled the stick. Voila! Still looked good, but no stick. My neck is kind of short and I need to go get more Obento (Japanese lunch box) sticks. I wore my anime type ones last night -- the cream ones with a little girl and a dog on them.
I reccomend a Japanese grocery or whatever and you can find some FAB sticks for a few dollars.
Nai
There's more Chinese buns in here than at a Chinese bakery. :smirk2:
Ok... I tried the chinese bun a new way and LOVE it!!!
First let me say that when Nai said to angle the sticks, I assume she meant to put the sticks in parallel to each other and off kilter, ie I put them in at about a 60 degree angle. cute cute cute
What I did last night was put the chopsticks in like an X and then weave the hair around the 4 ends instead of 2. It looks much weavier and simply adorable!!
Seth, HUSH... You have NO hair, why are you even in here??
Anybody want to post pics of their hair in the chinese bun?

Cuuute, Christi! :thumbsup2:
Very cute Christi! :)
Nai
I don't own any hairsticks...... now I have to get some!
mine looks pretty much like cristie's and/or the bottom 3 pics that sharon posted.
sharon,
i think i may know why your's looks different... it looks like you're taking the hair over the top of the stick, then wrapping around the back. to get it to look like cristie's and some of the others, you have to take the hair under & up behind the sticks, criss-cross over the front side, then wrap around the back. *hope that's understandable*
Curious..
Is it possible (without the hair falling down) to do these without chopsticks? Or do it with them and then after the wrapping or whatever, to take them out? I've never really been keen on chopsticks, so I was just wondering if that were possible!!
you would have to pin and spray it really good to keep it from falling when you remove the sticks.
btw.... i love the way it just tumbles down when you pull the stick

People like to mess with my hair.. I probably shouldn't do this hairdo with a stick then, haha.
ok.....been playing, but I think I know what crstrom may do differently......
I tried wrapping each piece 1 at a time (like in a figure 8) around the stick. It looks a lot more like hers, but not the same....hmmmm
In the pic I posted from the web site, I really like the ones called Martine and Avalon........they're similar, but not the same.....

BOL... I have to say something about this...
Josh thought he would be sexy and slide the sticks out so my hair would tumble down... he didn't realize it was in a ponytail first... he was SO disappointed!! hahaha
I criss cross back and forth over and over until there's only like 6-8" left and then wrap around to secure it... does that make sense??
yeah, i put mine in a ponytail first too, but the tumble is still neat ;)
K here is a few rough pictures I took myself haha of how I do mine.
I divide mine into two, and then twist once, and then wrap up above the hairstick, and then back down....hope these pictures show it ok lol....
Twisting up:

I also do the little poof thing thats in these days with it. It looks super cute. Ive gotten alot of compliments. Mind you too my hair is permed so I have the whole wet/wavy look going on in these pictures... lol
The messy one :

You can pin it securely and take the pins out.
I do it frequently.

my hair is so long that i criss-cross it over the stick 2-3 times before wrapping the ends around..... i'll try to get some pics soon (camera batteries are dead right now)

can't convince hubby to shave his pits.... he says "ewwww! only women are supposed to do that!"
Josh shaves his... he says it helps him to feel cleaner and it helps the deoderant get to where it needs to be.
that what i try to tell larry! he's not buyin it though.... fortunately he has no back hair, and very little chest hair though.... just make him keep those pits away from me :biglaugh:
I'll be happy when it is socially acceptable for a man to shave his pits. My hubby won't do it either. :sadbounce:
:o
aparrently seth has an aversion to shaving his pits too..... any volunteers for teaching him how to braid?! :laughhard:
Any volunteers to help me do a Chinese bun in my back hair? :P
I'll tell you what you need for that back hair... a big ole vat of wax!!! ughhhh I have a friend that is an aesthetician and I'm sure she'd give you a good deal!!
I do the Martine version of the chinese bun minus the clip along the top
my hair is so thin I don't think I could do the two stick X... I think I'd run out of hair to wrap... I'll have to try it if I can find my other hair stick... I'm down to one right now. Do you divide the ponytail into four or still just two?
my sister in law braided my brother's armpit hair on their honeymoon... I guess that was the only story they could retell from the honeymoon :smirk2:
I don't mind hair on guys... anywhere
I esp. like extra on the face and not a lot on top :freaky2:
seriously though, if it wasn't supposed to be there, it wouldn't grow right? I think shaved armpits on a guy would weird me out actually LOL
I divided into 2 sections only.
The first time Josh shaved his pits it scared me... LOL But then I realized it was MUCH more hygenic!! I too tend to like hair on guys, just not their backs.. ughhhh gorilla, much?
well showering regularly is a preference of mine too and that seems to work it out
lol

I don't know exactly... LOL My new digital camera is scheduled to be delivered on Monday so I will do some step by step pictures then.

LOL Jenn!! Actually, my hair is VERY long (between my rear and my knees and I'm 5'10") but is also getting very thin. It used to be at least 3x at thick as it is now!!

society is just kinder to guys in that regard
thats what I meant Christie(is this how u spell ur name? geesh is that your name? how terrible am I? lol) , lol a whole lotta hair meaning very long. So it makes your chinese bun bigger!

I know what you mean, Christi! My hair used to be really thick when I was younger, but as I grow older and it gets longer, it is getting thinner. I really like the Chinese Bun. When this thread first started, I began to do that hair-do. I got so many compliments on it.
Hey Christi, Where's those pics?
Sorry April. I had a family emergency and I am at my mom's house (210 miles away). My camera arrived safely at my house yesterday and my husband will be bringing it to me tonight. I'm working on it!!
You know, I thought about that after I posted this. I read what was going on (or what I think is going on) in another thread. I didn't mean to sound inconsiderate. Sorry.
Oh no, don't worry about it!!! I'm really excited to be getting my new camera tonight!!
I played with my hair the other night....trying to do different "versions" of the bun.....bear in mind I took them myself again so they aren't very good.....

Hair Care and some good tips!! Check it out!
I don't get why they have CD's of girls with long hair to buy?
What do you guys think of the lady who didn't wash her hair for 11 years?
I only made it so big so we could read it.
So what do ya'll say, soap boycott? :laughhard: :laughhard: :laughhard:
Ugh that is SO nasty... she only even rinses in with water every couple of months???? No way... I'm sorry but her hair has to stink!! ewww
On a parenting board that I frequent there was a thread recently about how often you shower and there was this lady who said she only showered once a week and never used shampoo on her hair. She also took care of her kids the same way. Oh and no deoderant!! I'm sorry but that's just nasty!!
I try to wash my hair as little as possible because that way it seems healthier to me... but I can't imagine NEVER washing it - that's crazy!!
In some ways, I can imagine that maybe for some people, it might work to just rinse it - but even then, I'd wanna be rinsing it at LEAST once or twice a week!!!!
My skin always feels better when I use LESS soap on it rather than more...
Her hair doesn't look to bad, but, I have to agree with CRStrom, her hair has to STINK.
And I'm sure that if I didn't wash/condition my hair and didn't run a comb/brush through it more than once a day, it would be full of rats... ughhhhh
I don't wash my hair every day either, maybe 2-3 times a week unless I've been sweaty or something (which isn't very often, LOL). I have perfect skin and I never use soap on my face... maybe every week or two I will do a mask or a special facial cleanser or something but I also don't have oily skin. If I had oily skin, I would have to wash it at least daily.
i have very oily skin and hair, so that definately would not work for me..... if i go more than 3-4 days without washing my hair it looks like i poured cooking oil on my head :smirk: i also can't wash it every day though cuz it gets too dry and frizzes at the bottom; also just too much trouble. i don't know how that woman's hair looks as good as it does.... i think she's lying, especially if it doesn't smell funky.
I've gotta wash my hair often enough so that it's not greasy, but not so often that it's frizzy too - SOOOO annoying!!
I'm going to invest in some of those intensive hair moisturisers when I go to Hong Kong, because something about the water or air there makes my hair frizz SOOOOOOO much worse than Australia!!!
I saw that article - I thought it was disgusting! I wash my hair every other day; every day dries my hair out WAAAY too much, and washing less than every other day makes my hair look uber greasy.
Nik, definitely try out intensive moisturizers! I always pack along a bottle when I go places, because my hair is curly and it will frizz like nobody's business when I go through a climate change. :biglaugh: A little bit of a creme pomade worked through the hair does well for cutting on back the frizz, too.

I don't use soap on my face either. I never have because no matter what I use would break me out. I only use lukewarm water to wash my face. I've only had a few pimples, and that was at a certain time of month, and never had greasy or oily skin.

I've been ILL... I'm actually hoping to make a video instead of just photos but my nose is all stuffy and I don't wanna be on tape sounding like this!!
Prance on, oh queen eternal.... :hypocrite:
You need to watch yourself mister!!
I am finally feeling MUCH better!! Still a little snuffy but that's all... I left the video camera and the digial camera in the diaper bag from our trip yesterday though... I am so sorry gals...
Ohh, it's ok. We're all really just wondering why Seth is so eager to see it.
*grin* Totally kidding. ;)
It's because I miss my hair. :P
I actually put my hair up last week... its really hard to take photos of the back of your own head... but I managed!

That looks great Amelia! Classy!
Ladies, I cannot find hairsticks at Wal-mart or Target! I don't want to have to go all the way across KC to the mall to get them!
i get all mine at Claire's in the mall.... i've got some awesome geisha ones that DQ has a pic of.... she needs to post it ;)
That's nice AB, how did you get the back to look like that, is it a braid?
It looks cute, Amelia! :thumbsup2: Was it comfortable?
The back of that looks awesome!! I need to learn how to do something like that with my hair... lol - I'm a bit lazy when it comes to doing my hair... ;)
thanks ya'll!!!
my requirement for hairdos is that it can't take longer than 5-10 minutes to do
I usually leave my hair down 'cause I miss it when its up... I wear my hair up only a few times a year actually
that is the chinese bun that everyone was talking about at the beginning of this thread.. my hair is just so thin and long and turns lighter at the ends so you can see every criss-cross... also I use this shine-enhancer defrizz stuff instead of hairspray that just makes it real easy to slick LOL and doesn't make it stiff :great: I try to go all the way to the ends instead of wrapping them under prematurely... which is also why there is a lot of thin criss-crosses and looks braid-esque
I get hairsticks at claires
Looks good AB. I thought it was the chinese bun... that's what mine looks like just much much bigger... LOL
Mine would be tiny ;) My hair's very THIN and SHORT (well, mid back length)... I have hardly ANY hair...
Apparently, the hot humid climate over here makes a lot of people's hair grow faster/healthier... Hopefully that happens for me!!
Either that or I'll fall pregnant, just so my hair will grow coz of the hormones!!
Hmmmm... Hot and humid climate makes hair grow faster and healthier? There is hope for us Floridians!
Humidity also adds to the frizz factor though.

I knooowww - my hair is crazy over here... I've gotta condition, then deep condition, then leave-in serum stuff to try and control the frizz!!!

Precisely ;)
Normally people have their "beeping" noses on their face, not on their bum ;)
:laughhard: :laughhard:
I'm going to be laughing at that one all day!
:beret:
:laughhard:
LOL! Oh, what a tiny twist of words can do!
