Ok so...this morning I lamented that I wanted to have a slow do nothing day today.

WRONG!

I did do some laundry and start supper (cube steak with onions and mushroom gravy in the crockpot) and I cleaned the kitchen. I was a busy little bee just minding my own business enjoying the day off, and dad suddenly announces that we should go to the Thanksgiving lunch thing at the funeral home. He says this at 11:45. The lunch starts at 12. UGH. So we pack up and go, we are late, but it's ok. We enjoy good food and fellowship with all his funeral home buddies. I make mom a plate to go, cause of course SHE is still laying in the bed, and we leave and head to WM to get a few things.

Let me backtrack here. Ok, my aunt who lives in WV, she called this morning and said she sent dad a surprise gift and according to Fed Ex, it should be arriving at the church today, so for us to be on the lookout. So since we were gonna go eat at the FH, we left word with Granny to be on the look out for Fed Ex for us. Meanwhile, in WM, Krissy calls me and asked if I could go with her to her OBGYN appointment to keep Olivia in the waiting room. She is full term and the Dr would have to examine her and she figured Livi would freak out about it. I agreed and Krissy said she would pick me up at church.

So we get to church, and Kris is waiting on me, and there is a strange car in the parking lot. I wondered about it, but knew that Granny is prepping for her daughters wedding here on Sunday do I figured it was wedding family stuff. So I get dad out of the truck and Pastor opens the door to the church and says that dad needs to hurry inside cause he has something to show him. I'm frantically trying to get the groceries into the apartment and get back to go with Krissy. So I head to the apartment loaded down with bags. I tell mom what I'm doing and ask her to put the cold things in the fridge and granny is frantically yelling at me from the foyer door! So I go back out and she said "YOUR PACKAGE IS HERE!! COME SEE!" and I'm all like "so? It's not for me, what's the big deal?!" and suddenly it HITS ME! SHARKY! Then I hear her laugh! I take off into a run in the direction of the laugh, and there in front of dad who is grinning madly, is my aunt Sharky! I almost tackled her! My cousins were here too. Mikey, who is about three years younger than me, and Sherri who is about 12 years older than me. It was awesome!

But I had made a commitment to Krissy, and she needed me for her appointment, so I still went with her and kept Livi and we fed the ducks and had a good time for about two hours.

When I got back to the church, Sharky and the parents and I all piled in the truck and went to Foley Al and ate at Lamberts. We met Sherri and Mikey there and had a wonderful dinner. Dad got to eat free cause he was in a wheelchair. Their motto is "Bring your own seat, you don't pay to eat!" so he ordered the huge ribeye and ate it all for free. Lol

Now they all are gone back to Pensacola where they have to stay, and we will go back over there and see them again Sunday afternoon/evening.

I can't wait! I love my Sharky! She is my favorite!

So much for my "do nothing" day! ;)
Have you slapped that one dude from Indiana with a pie in the face today?

Melody:  Yeah, that's how it usually goes with me when I think I'm going to have a boring Saturday off.  I wind up running the sound booth for a wedding at the church, helping cook dinner for a lot of people, etc, etc, etc...

Say... maybe that's how it will work for all this time off I'm expecting!  Maybe I'll have a lot of stuff to do for the whole three weeks.  One can hope.

Heather, Nathan is a carpenter.  He built houses for 10 years and has been remodeling for years and years.

He asks if you're wanting to get him an impact cordless drill or just a regular cordless drill?  You can get one with both ability.  He said that is best option because the impact feature cuts down the time putting a screw in like crazy.  He said it makes the job MUCH easier.  But for actual drilling holes he'll also want the regular drill option.

He also said Makita is a good brand, though he hasn't tried the newer ones recently.

Hitachi- best value for best product
Bosch- for super heavy duty, like daily use.
Dewalt, more expensive, not necessarily better quality than the above.

He said they usually have good Black Friday sales at Lowes at least.  Under $125 for any of those is a great deal he said.

He also said pay attention to the brand of his other tools in case he favors a certain brand.

So there's a carpenter's review.  (:
*Taking notes, as I need a good tool set for myself*

Fuzzy:  It's your fault I spent so much time looking up how to make flan, aka creme caramel.  Finally found a recipe that did not call for evaporated or condensed milk, both of which I think taste weird and lend their weirdness to any recipe.  So now I have to try this out and see how it works.  And it's all your fault!  (Okay so it's not, but I need someone to blame.  Do you mind if I blame you?)

Oh, and in the process I also learned what caster sugar is, and how to make it if you don't live in the UK. Could be handy information, even for recipes that don't specify caster sugar.

I woke up far too early and couldn't get back to sleep because my nose was froze.  And the air I was breathing was so cold, the chill percolated through and made the roof of my mouth cold.  How's a guy supposed to sleep like this?

Oh well, time to dig out the heater, fire it up and enjoy that first-run smell of burnt dust.

*sigh*

We're having dinner with dear friends tonight.  They'll be moving soon to start a home missions church.  It's so very exciting!  It's a bit heart wrenching though.  We've made wonderful friends in the 6.5 yrs we've been here and most of them have left, all for good wonderful/ministry reasons.  That is part of the personality of this church, helping get to that next level, usually in ministry.  The plus side is we have more friends in more places.  lol  The downside is they are close to my heart and far away.  I feel a little weepy actually.

True friends are such a precious treasure.  I'm thankful for my GP friends that are still here no matter where they live. ♥

Being useless can be fun if you don't have anything you have to do.  Go with it!  :thumbsup2:

Oh, but LOU thinks I have somewhat to do....And if I don't do some of it, I shall be in the doghouse, which is rather small. (I really need to finish plumbing the bathroom in the shop, that and a couch would make it tolerable of a night  :laughhard:) I really wish I had a large amount of disposable cash. I'm jonesing for a roadtrip. Being one who use to load up on a motorcycle at the suggestion of a trip, and stay gone for a week at a time.....well, it's hard on me not being able to do that. I've done pretty well, but it has been over three years since my last real trip.. :sadbounce:

You and my uncle Fred would get along great.  He likes taking long trips to nowhere with some friends on motorcycles.  Not the big motorcycle clubs, or whole packs of friends, but just a couple or four guys driving off to somewhere just to be going.

Some kind of stupid insurance type people just showed up and I've never seen any strangers so nosy.  I wish they'd shut up and get out of here.

Yep. That's me. My favorite motorcycle memories were me and Bro Wilson's youngest son. We've been to Maine and back down the coast, all over Ok/Tx/La.....we practically lived on them. Our "group" was usually me and him, and occasionally his older brother..Anything more than three or four and it gets to troublesome trying to ensure everyone is still with the group..

That's how they peel tomatoes in factories.  Well... the ones that don't use chemicals to do the job.

Those people finally left while ago.  They tried to sell me life insurance.  I need lots of things, but heavenly day...I'm poor as dirt.

Anyhoo.

I didn't know you could scald a tater that way either....  I know that once boiled or backed you can peel the skin off, but it doesn't always come off real good....

Chseeads

So I merged WC's tomato peeling post over here out of the accidental thread it was posted to....and it went above MY's tater picture, to which I presume it references....  :smirk2:

Lynx

It's the thought that counts.  Thanks.

It's the rapid transition from hot to cold that does the trick.  Try it sometime.  Of course the same trick makes the top of a cheesecake look like the San Andreas fault line, as I found out when I was in a hurry to cool one down.   :-\

No not really, it's just being scalded period that does that trick.  If you scald tomatoes the skin peels off regardless if you drop them in icy water or not.  The drop into cold water just stops the cooking process and makes them cool enough to handle.  But the skins will slip as soon as you scald them regardless.

I thought we were originally talking about peeling potatoes.  Scalding tomatoes helps with peeling, but the hot/cold contrast helps with the potatoes.

Does that really work, Mellow? Wow. I'll have to try it.

Those tomatos look good!

Well, I'm tired from the birthday party. Got to hang with friends and family. Jesse had fun with his buds and presents and cake, ect.....
My hubby's nickname is shep and that would make me ladyshep. :)

Chseeads

It was originally taters until you said tomatoes and then it went all downhill from there... :P

For what it's worth, you can scald peaches to peel them too.
