Time now for our second installment in this occasional series.. looking at it from two different perspectives..

She Wants What?!?!?!

A female law enforcement dispatcher and I were talking a few weeks back.. she's married, so it wasn't a case where I was pursuing a date or anything, we were chatting about relationships.

I pointed out (truthfully) that it seemed that 40's are a great age to be single.. I think we touched on the issues of many young men these days being a jerk, making it easier on us older guys, and how I've had so much more positive attention from younger women once I became older than I ever had when I was a younger man.

She opined that a woman wants to feel protected, and wants to be entertained. She thus said she wasn't surprised that I received attention from women, from those perspectives. I thought it was kind of neat...thoughts??

The second conversation was with a 23-25 year old woman I've known for years..married, at least two children, works at a bank I do business at. She is a beautiful woman, but also often almost equisitely done up, so she looks unusually 'elegant' for a younger woman.

I asked her if she was spending quality time with her husband that evening, and she said they were going out to the cage matches (extreme fighting) event going on in town that evening.

My surprise must have been evident, and I asked her about it. She said something like, oh, yeah, blood and gore. I joked that I had been doing it wrong all these years, with dinner and such.

She thought my next fighting event would be a good thing to ask someone out to.

What say ye to the 'blood and gore' (or at least arms and armor) over a nice dinner somewhere?

I say...

depends on the woman.

Big help, I know. ;)

Seriously though, personality plays a huge part of what she'd enjoy. I would find a more intimate dinner setting a totally intimidating first date with someone. Just having fun attending an event, or playing a game, or something low-key seems much less intimidating for the first date or two. Candlelight dinners are fantabulous, but I'd prefer them when I'm very comfortable with someone and know them WELL.

Sis

I agree with ST!  I would say a game of putt putt and a quick dinner someplace nice but not elegant. Chilis or TGIF would do.   Ohhh I'm making me hungry.

Yup
At the top of the checklist, fer sher!

For a woman, to feel protected is an absolute must imho, to feel entertained is lower on the list, in order of importance, but still in the top few.

A first date (speaking frome my tonnes of experience ) has to be low key. Something fun like lazer skirmish and McDs, or bowling with food from the bowling eatery... and I've just mentioned two activites that you can't do with just two....maybe a movie then? Anyway, it's far too intimidating otherwise, you're right on the money, Ruby, not unless you're uber comfortable with the other is an intimate dinner a good idea.

Sis

Gotta watch that "protection" thing, though.  I know a guy who won't ALLOW his wife to work or even volunteer anywhere out of the home. He wants her HOME. He says he's protecting her. She can't go shopping alone, either. I guess the only thing she's ALLOWED to do without him is go to church ladies functions but he has to drive her there and back. And for ladie's retreats, he goes with and they rent a room. He will drive her there and back.

*Shakes head* A guy can take this protection thing too far. What at first might feel safe can become a prison.

upcchris

Hmmm, you're right...ok feeling protected but not over protected. A comforting security, not a cage.

Glad I read this before lunch.  Instead of taking my wife to dinner for mothers day, Ill take her to a cage fight!

Uhh... Mini, hate to break it to ya, but... your wife is really comfortable with you, and knows you really well. Dinner is one of about two options, or you're in the doghouse. For a month of Sundays. *grin*

Funny that you say it's a CD, Aaron.  The last happy meal that I bought (just a couple weeks ago) at McD's had a music CD in it!  I was a bit weirded out, like...  HUH?!?!  I haven't listened to it yet.  It was supposed to be by kids and for kids.  The titles weren't exactly kid-sounding titles, though.  Bothered me.

Funny you mentioned that...  Here's an article I read a lunch.

Parent Warning! Happy Meal toy causing controversy

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Across the nation there has been concern regarding the prize in the kid's meal from a fast food restaurant.

Certain McDonald's Restaurant Happy Meals contain a children's CD that allegedly includes an offensive word in one of the songs.

On "Kidz Bop" CD-Number 6, the first song is "I Don't Wanna Be", originally by Gavin DeGraw. It allegedly contains a profane word that appears at around 52 seconds into the song, during the chorus.

In the original song's chorus, Gavin DeGraw says, "I'm tired of looking 'round rooms wondering what I've got to do or who I'm supposed to be." Some parents say that "looking" sounds like a profane word in the Kidz Bop version.

The cover of the CD says "Sung By Kids, For Kids."

While we have not heard about complaints from parents locally, this has stirred up parents across the nation.

You can listen to the song by clicking on the video player at the top right hand side of this page. Below, tell us if you hear the alleged word or if you find it offensive. Leave us your thoughts!

We also went out to see what East Texans thought about the song. Click here to watch their reactions.

***WARNING*** Potentially explicit audio clip with alleged use of profanity.

I got Kidz Bop #3.
Songs listed are

1. Beautiful Girls
2. Pon De Replay
3. Hey There Delilah
4. Girls Just Want To Have Fun
5. KIDZ BOP World

Pulled it out and listened to it today.  Not terrible stuff, but just aggravated me that it was in a Happy Meal.  *sigh*

I'd be one that would be ok with a guy asking me to a fighting event.

Of course I'd be happier in armor
