Obviously this one is old... and probably worn out... but just to put a little 2 sense in...

0. Obvious... but pray long and hard before starting one... LDR are not for everyone... lol

1. Don't write them for 5 months before meeting them... or even talk for 5 months on the phone, Someone on the phone or net, or good 'ole pigeon mail, may not be the same type of person in person!

2. Don't rush it... if your going to marry them, you got the rest of your life to be mushy-gushy, sweet nothings in their ears!

3. Make sure they are your best friend or can be it... Marriage is tough enough to begin with...

4. Try to visit often enough to get to know them, but not too often that you end up wanting to rush it cause your tired of being alone!

5. Hang out with Dad, Mom, Sisters and Brothers... BBQ, go to the Zoo... do all the normal things you would do if they lived next door...

6. Prolly more... but I think they got covered... :)

Have a few of your friends who you trust talk to the person and see what they think about them too?
To see if they see any red flags you don't care to admit to?
  :attackhug: Be full of hugs!

Haven't read the entire thread, but my wife and I were very much a long distance relationship.  We did it the old fashioned way, letters and a couple of phone calls per week.

Of course we met in March and Married in August of the same year.

Sounds like our whirlwind romance. LOL   We met in in early February, six years ago -were never officially engaged, just sort of started talking about the wedding in a matter-of-fact way, which occurred early May of that year, in Vegas. :)  Best decision we ever made!  (Getting married AND getting married in Vegas.)

Scott

The funny thing was our first son was born 4 years later, on the very date we were engaged.

How many people who had successful had LDR's are on here?

Sis

Um, Angel and Trey got married.  Desert Flower married Solo Man.  Who are some of the others?

The Purple Fuzzy

Amelia Bedelia

The couple in belgium - I'm drawing a blank on their name - bart and.... Help me someone LOL

Trav and terp
A bunch of the old AYN'ers - monica and chase

Of course the current "it" couple: puddle and soggy

RainbowJingles

Mary, you may want to hide after that comment.  I got the icy glare from the melted maiden when I tried a version of that nickname.  lol

SippinTea

Indeed. *icy glare*

Besides, we're not married YET. And neither are Trav and Terp. So I'm not sure we really count. *lol*

*has an idea for Ruby's wedding reception*

Make flowers out of papertowels.  lol  Don't want anything to be soggy from the puddles.

*innocent look*

What's wrong?

:bigcheese:

You could make a gorgeous white bouquet out of paper towel flowers, you know.

Amelia Bedelia

I don't see anybody calling anything off and I see people committed to getting married to each other so I'm gonna count them as successful, on faith

I know Elona, I thought it was great so I stole it :-)
The twinkle in her eye from Soggy makes the icy glare not so believable anyway

RainbowJingles

Icy cold water just isn't quite the same as razor-sharp ice, is it?  :bigcheese:

Amelia Bedelia

Right, and at this point she's been puddlefied so long that its really more like cool water gaze
