What do you think are some good ideas for keeping in touch if you have a long distance relationship? I know my husband and I had several different things we did when we were dating, since we were 8 hours apart and I wanted to share them in case *somebody* needed any encouragement. So, my thoughts are coming soon... what are yours?

Schedule time for each other; phone time can be quality time. ;) Send sweet random texts and do things together over the phone, even if that means watching a TV show while on the phone.. Send emails, send cards, send special little gifts with meaning (a favorite t-shirt, for instance) and....

That's all I've got. :biglaugh:

I can personally vouch for all of those methods, though. ;)

Newsman

Phone calls, IM's, and e-mails, yes.

I'm not into texting (except to have needed phone numbers from directory assistance sent to me when I'm working on the road.)

While talking, IMing, and e-mailing, you may want to regularly discuss the next time you get to meet IRL.. something that the two of you will attend/do/experience while you're sharing that special time... a way to make that special time have extra memories.

While remembering, that at some point, you must be comfortable with them, in person, even in the quiet, calm, non-speaking times..or you will not be happy together, because long-term happiness depends more on excitement, emotion, and wit.

Plus, flowers from the guy, without a particular reason, other than you enjoy being with her, appreciate her, and want her to know that.

There must be trust and comfort in that moonlit stroll or stargazing, as well as the flutter of the heart, for it to be truly right.

We used to talk a lot - call each other, chat on the internet, send stuff to each other (less often...) - but one of my FAVOURITE things to do was playing some online game with him. It was like we could do something TOGETHER and have fun - but just enjoy doing something rather than just talking all the time. I know other people will watch a movie together or something... or watch a TV show... and you can be on a call at the same time and comment/chat throughout... but things like that can sometimes feel more like "being together" than just chatting... *shrugs*

We were only 2 hrs apart though when we were dating so we saw each other most weekends...

John...you sound like you are describing a couple of specific people in those posts. Hmmm.

We also sent some really silly letters... I always tried to do something goofier than him. For example, one of the letters I sent I wrote on a striped sock (I kept the mate in hopes that they would one day be together...) It was entertaining and made good memories. We've actually framed some of the best and wittiest of the old letters. :)

Sis

Send him something personal with your perfume on it. A cute teddy bear or something. Have him send you something with his aftershave on it.

Hebrews 12:12-16 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you

Send letters via carrier pigeon.

That's more like it. *grin* That's one of the best ideas I've seen in here yet.

And no, I'm not being sarcastic. I like off the wall stuff.
