The sweet potatoes are actually the BEST food out of the bunch.
Sweet potatoes are VERY good for you.

Yeah, but I usually put in a lot of brown sugar, which isn't so good. This year I'm gonna try to use less and maybe just add more vanilla extract instead.

MsJennJenn

We're having:

Ham
Cornish game hens
mashed potatoes
sweet potatoes
butternut squash
corn
green bean casserole
deviled eggs

And not sure what desserts.

oooh everyone should list their menus!  I'm going to my aunt's, I think our menu is pretty common.

My sister is making something I asked her the recipe for.  Guacamole deviled eggs.  Their mashed potatoes will be whipped cauliflower instead I think.

The only different things we might have are my G'ma's homemade noodles and cottage cheese salad with Ruffles.  :freaky2:

Lynx

Did someone say deviled eggs?  :D  I have fun with those.  No two batches are different.  It all depends what I have in the fridge at the time that might go well.

It's midyear and I'm changing up Hannah's curriculum.  Yep, that's how we roll.  LOL  We're switching from ACE to A Beka.

:great: Smart move.

My son is ahead by two grade levels except math. He gets pretty lazy, however, when it comes to his school work. Don't know how I can teach him without diciplining all the time. (Maybe it's all too easy for him in 1st grade IDK what the problem is) Got to pull his tooth out to do his homework. but when he does it he is soooo fast. My kids are pretty social, too, so I always come to the conclusion of just sending them to school.

My guess is that is WHY he seems "lazy" with his schoolwork. Why should you work hard when you have no challenge? Pointless.  Been there, done that. It's not worth any effort when you know you're getting good grades anyhow. And if that is the case, I definitely would NOT recommend putting him in ACE. My two cents. :)

Jenn - I love the idea of those schools! I hope if you have kids you are able to do that. We're not - but I think it's a great mix for people who don't want to homeschool full time.

Well. I'm here. And y'all are making me hungry. Haha.

For those that I haven't informed another way: I went to the ER this morning as planned and was examined and told I have a cyst on my cervix. It will have to be drained so it doesn't rupture. I have to call and make an appointment for that. *sigh*

But at least it's a real thing and not just imaginary pain.

I was released, went to wm to get my scripts, came home and took a nap. Now I'm up and really hungry. And y'all didn't help much.

And for the record, I make my own cranberry sauce. YUMMY.
Have you slapped that one dude from Indiana with a pie in the face today?

Chseeads

We never did do cranberry sauce, we always had Cranberry Waldorf Salad.  To me it was always a dessert, though other people ate it as a side with the regular meal.  It's cranberries, sugar, marshmallows, grapes, Granny Smith apples, pecans, whipping cream....

That paleo punkin pie sounds interesting.

Melody

Mel, I'm glad it's not an appendicitis.  Is it endometriosis?  That's when you have cysts somewhere in there and when they burst it's crazy painful and whatever is in them spreads and causes more.  My mom had that from the time she was about 18.  It would cause her such pain, I remember once she doubled over to the floor.  She's had a few D&Cs? that apparently did wonders for awhile.

I make our own cranberry sauce too!  But at Christmas, and I cook fresh cranberries with frozen blueberries.

That sounds really good, Seth.  I'd eat that.  I haven't made the paleo pumpkin pie but close with the honey and nut crust.  It was very good, but I love all things pumpkin pretty much.   I read this is the new pumpkin pie:

Pumpkin Lust Cake
from Debbie Mortensen

1 stick butter, melted
1 cup flour
1 cup chopped pecans
2 tbs sugar
1 (8oz) package of cream chees, soft
1 cup powdered sugar
2 (8 oz) containers cool whip (or one 16 ozz container)
2 small packages (3.4oz) of Jello Instant Pumpkin Spice Pudding
3 cup cold milk
Nutmeg for sprinkling

For the crust:

1. Combine butter, flour, chopped pecans and sugar and press into a 9 x 13 in baking dish.  Bake at 375 for 10-15 minutes.  Let cool completely.

For the Cream Cheese Layer:

1.  Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and 1 1/2 cups cool whip until smooth.  Spread over crust.

For the Pumpkin Layer:

1.  Mix pudding mixes with cold milk, whisking for several minutes.  Set it in the fridge for 5-10 minutes to let it thicken.  Spread over the cream cheese layer. Top with remaining container of cool whip. Sprinkle with nutmeg.

Cut into squares and serve.  Keep refrigerated.

Melody, so glad it isn't apendicitis as well. I pray for a safe and fast healing for your cyst.

Yeah, thanks gals for the good advice about ACE. I really appreciate it. Don't think I will be making that move. As for why Jess is "lazy" unmotivated, he is just like that in a lot of things. I don't really know what to do to get him there, but I don't yell for him to get his work done. If point A doesn't get done then point B won't happen till it is done is my moto.

Thanks for all of the yummy pictures of food!

Have a wonderful night everyone!
My hubby's nickname is shep and that would make me ladyshep. :)

I was kind of rooting for appendicitis for Mel-Mel myself, so I could finally say, "I told you so."  :P  :hypocrite:

I tried out the chocolate pudding cake today and it was yummy!  Basically a chocolate cake batter, with cooked chocolate pudding poured on top in glops (so it won't be too even, and then swirl it around a bit) and bake the whole thing.

Think I'll get another piece... :)

Yeah, I'm glad it's fixable with minimal damage. So far. When I follow up with the dr, I will see if he needs to do it surgically or if he can do it in the office. I'm scared of that.

God knows. Meanwhile, I have been feeling good this afternoon/evening. So maybe I'm on the upside of the illness finally. I know it hasn't been but since Saturday, but to me, it feels like its been weeks!

Thank you all for your prayers. And again, sorry for all the ranting. I was hurting and frustrated. As is our family custom, the arguments and name calling from last night was not mentioned again this morning, and we all acted like nothing was said. No discussion. No resolve. No apologies. Nothing. That's how it will be until the next big blow out. Been that way my entire life. I HATE THAT! I wanna talk it thru and come to an understanding. But it never happens.

*shrug* that's the way we are. At least with my family. I rufuse to be that way with my friends tho. I gotta yell it out, then talk it out and come to some sort of understanding before I'll drop it. That's me. But with my relationship with my parents, it's a whole different matter. :smirk2:

I'm good though. :)

I've been waiting for nearly a year for something to happen to yours....you can't blame me for being hopeful this time around. :P  :hypocrite:

All that mess you went thru, why would you want to inflict it on me?

Don't be hateful, Poopsie.  You know it's been with loving endearment that I've blamed everything you've suffered in the last year on your appendix.

MsJennJenn

Brought home 12 boxes from work today. Packed 6. Packed most of the night stand. All of my desk. A box of cleaning things and tool type stuff I have. And packed the end of the bed thingie I have/had full of wallets/bags type stuff.

Haven't even touched the shoes.
I've officially packed 20 boxes, and I haven't even touched the closet, dresser or bathroom/vanity.

Anyone wanna take a poll at how many boxes it takes to pack my 115 (+\-) shoes that are all in shoe boxes?? Haha

The meds I'm taking to ease the pain of the cyst gives me a headache and makes me dizzy.

That's not a good trade I don't think.

I'm hauling dad around. That's my job. Lol

I ate, so I'm not so dizzy/headache anymore. Still there, just not as bad. We are currently in McDs, fixing to go to Dads appointment with his leg man. Then to WM in Ocean Springs to look for a game for Sis Ramsey that I can't find in Pascagoula. I need it for our yearly tournament on Thursday.

Then I need to go to a local grocery store to get a cake I tasted at the funeral home party the other day. It was AMAZING! A Carmel apple cake. So rich and good. The Ramsey's will love it, so that will be my contribution to the meal. Since I don't have my proper equipment to make my pumpkin cake this year.
