The Purple Fuzzy

I really enjoyed the Dee Henderson books.  They are Christian fiction with mystery and a touch of romance, but not mushy.

Danger in the Shadows
The Negotiator
The Guardian

There may be more.  I haven't read much lately.  I need to pick it up again now that I finally got some real glasses. ;)

Thanks, PF! I've been trying to remember who wrote these.... I read one a while back and loved it, but couldn't remember who wrote it to look for it.

I think there are like 7 in this series.... and I love them all! Dee Henderson does a very good job of researching and writing her books in relation to real life. She wrote one of them about a nurse... and it was quite accurate.

another series by a different author i cant remember at this moment? Sullivan? or was that the character in the book? lol!:

Healing Waters
Healing Stones
Healing Sands

Sands and stones were my favorite... water was hard to read for me, but made me think the most...

Haha... I had a feeling at least these two would for sure be in here...! LOL, One is a teacher... the other a professional book-worm...   :P

Books... books... too many books!

I love Gilbert Morris, and have read two of his books in the last 3 weeks. Yes, I skipped Alcorn to read Morris...  :P   Reading historical fiction set  in England centering about the time when William Tyndale began translating the Latin Bible into English was more interesting to me, than what appeared to be a mystery...! The two books (it is a set of three, but the third has not been released yet!) are part of the Winslow Breed Novel set... and predates his "House of Winslow" novels... and deals a lot with the Monarchs of England as well, and the many issues that took place.

Ohh, and as with most Morris novels, there is a some romance... and yes, make jokes if you like... But I enjoy a good romance!

Morris does an amazing job of taking me to the time and place he is writing of, and making me feel as though I actually know the characters I am reading about... as REAL people. Of course... I think I still might have an overactive imagination! LOL, Which is one of the reasons I avoid books that appear as thrillers / suspense filled novels!

I must say... I loved them... they are 300 pages each, and was a simple 3-4 hour read...  :)

Probably more books to rave and review on... but not tonight... Got another Morris book to start! LOL

:demand: Start the Alcorn books!! :demand:

this will probably come up at some point, so I may as well get it out of the way: Who has read books written by Jane Austen...I don't mean watched the film adaptations, (and I don't mean the zombie/vampire/sea monster adaptations) I mean actually read the books?

Despite working in a library, its sometimes hard to find a decent fiction book to read. I can definitely recommend Scott Westerfield as an author, albiet secular. My taste runs to the Sci/Fi...so unless you like that genre..my advice will probably not be altogether helpful.

I can also definitely recommend L.M. Montgomery, C.S. Lewis (of course), Lewis Carrol, L. Frank Baum, Louisa May Alcott, Laura Ingalls Wilder

I have yet to find others on board who enjoy books by Terry Pratchett

I second the Scott Westerfield recomendation. I LOVE his books. Uglies, Pretties, Specials, Extras.....really good "series".

Jane Austen is a definite favorite!

I am currently reading Dee Henderson's O'Malley Series.  Almost finished with book 3 - The Truth Seeker. It is really good. :)

Some people make things happen, some watch while things happen, and some wonder \"What happened?\"

Which type of person are you?

One of the best books I ever read and use what I learned every day is: "To Train Up a Child" by Michael Pearl.

I'm currently reading a book called 'The Know-It-All' by AJ Jacobs. It's about the authors quest to read the entire Encyclopedia Britannica. He also wrote 'A Year of Living Biblically' but I haven't read that one yet.

ok, I'm going to do it.  I want to order the first non-fiction book to read in about.. hmm.. 10 yrs.

All this talk about Alcorn.. Which one should I start with and may I assume they use discretion in the mysteries they solve?

MelodyB

The Alcorn books are amazing. I've read them all at least 4 times in the last 3 years. I think I'm ready to start back over and do it again. Lol

Start with DEADLINE.

Melody

awesome. Amazon has it for $7. ☺  Wait, is it too new to be at the library?

MelodyB

No. Thomas got all three of the Alcorn books from the library.

BUT HE HASN'T READ THEM!!! :pound:

Ok, I'm better now.

Mel's right - The trilogy starts with Deadline. Then Dominion, then Deception. I also highly recommend his book Safely Home. It's about persecution in China, among other things. But you really can't go wrong with Alcorn. Everything he's written is fabulous - both fiction and non-fiction. And I don't just say that about authors I enjoy. ;-) You work in a christian bookstore as long as I did, and you get REALLY picky. *lol*

If you think you'll want to read the whole trilogy, sometimes you can get really good discounts for the boxed set from his website.
