Ever notice 4 or 5 people putting chapstick on in church?  I have noticed this recently that about mid sermon.. without even thinking, I reach for my chapstick.  And it's contagious cause everybody else starts doing it.

MelodyB

Me!! I'm guilty!

I have to have Carmex though. I LOVE the cherry kind! My Fav!
Have you slapped that one dude from Indiana with a pie in the face today?

Melody

yep, I have one!  I don't know if it's cause I don't have time for breakfast or what by my lips will get dry and stick to my teeth, making a very awkward feeling.

The Purple Fuzzy

Yes.  But mine kept getting more chapped until I switched to a Vitamin E stick they had near the vitamins a WM.  Now they are much better.

Melody

I LOVE the vitamin E stick!  I'll never go back.

Sis

I don't always do the chapstick. Only when I really need it. When my palms get dry and cracked, the chapstick works better than anything for that.

I do have dry lips a lot of the time, maybe I'll go find some of that vitamin E stick. It sounds good. Thanx for bringing  it up, PF!

TheGirl

This is a little off subject, but i dont know notice people putting on chapstick as much as I notice people opening candy wrappers or cell phones going off or kids playing on little game systems or even teenagers texting while a preachers preaching.

Sis

We had a woman who opened a bag of Skittles, leaned back with her leg up on the chair in front of her and openly ate them. Not only that but held the bag up to the kids around her and shared them.............. during preaching.

Bro. Mattox would have had something to say about that.! lol A couple of weeks ago he brought it to everyones attention that he didnt want to see any more cell phones, gum, candy or any of that stuff during church.  And expecially these women letting these kids bring a bunch of toys to church. I saw a 7 or 8 year old boy at a fellowship meeting the other night who had a portable game or something.  I thought.. his mom needs her behind kicked! lol These kids are not learning anything because they have already learned from day 1 that it's okay to have their mind somewhere else.

We have people now who have been in the truth all of their lives, but have no real respect or love for the Word.

And I guess I'm no better for using chapstick during church, but these girls with the glittery lip gloss. They even got their mirror out looking at it.  My mom would have dragged me out by my hair.  Bro. Jones ( another preacher) said, they looked like they had been eating greasy chicken. lol

My lips are bad chapped all the time. I keep carmex with me 24/7, but now I'm gonna have to try some of that vitamin e stuff

Scott

I play the trumpet (semi professionally) and during the winter I use chapstick all the time, but not to the extent you are talking about.

I got some one time that tasted like orange sherbet.  mmmm that was good. lol

Sis

Scott, glad you're still playing. Hate to see you lose your lip like Penner did.

Sam, every time I use something with a flavor, I keep licking my lips. It kinda defeats the purpose.

FYI:  Dr. Monte Meltzer is the chief of dermatology at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. He says lip balm often includes ingredients that cause a tingling, such as salicylic acid, phenol and menthol. Some of these are exfoliants that cause lips to peel. In turn, the lips become thinner and less able to protect against the elements. So people need to apply again, and the vicious cycle continues.

Carmex, in its defense, tries to make out as if salicylic acid is a mild, non-irritating chemical, pointing out that it's "closely related to aspirin." However, I don't see why its relationship to aspirin is relevant since salicylic acid obviously does dry out your skin (which is why it's used in acne medicine).

an old timer once told me if ya have dry cracked lips or cold sores, put ear wax on them and the problem goes away.

gauranteed to keep ya from licking them.  ;)

YO!   EEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Well, I gots the vitamin E. Just got back from an afternoon spending money. Now I'm broke again for a couple more weeks. LOL

TheGirl

For whoever it was that said they used Carmex 24/7 perhaps its because the carmex is what makes your lips dry. I've heard Carmex is one of the worst things you can use..I have no proof..just heard it :)

I looked for the Vitamin E stick yesterday, and I couldn't find it...can someone post a picture?

I didn't find it up by the registers where they have some.   I went to the pharmacy department and there it was next to the sunscreens.

yep, I use the same one Purple Fuzzy posted.  And when the Vit.E. seems to wear off, my lips seem soft and supple, like they don't get dry as fast.  I use it less and have more results than chapstick..lol  No color or flavor or really "glossiness."

Sis

Made a mistake, this is the kind I got. I saw the other one someplace but got this one at Wallyworld. I didnt' even see the other kind that PF got.
