With the great observatioal and relationship experience involved in being 44 and never having ben married, I will periodically post observations I have about women.

I invite your comment, analysis, thoughts..let's just keep it family-friendly.

  I start this series with

A Tribute To The Modest Woman

This is not about standards, per se. It's about how the beauty of a modestly dressed woman stands out in a group of wordly women. While it would apply to married women as well as singles, I post here in Singles, as the unmarried Ladies that are members here may not have someone in their lives who points out these truths to them, and out of propriety, in part, also.

Allow me to gve an example. A few weeks back, I stop in a town for dinner. There are two waitresses, and a party of five or six, including two or three young women, arrive about the same time I do.

One of the waitresses would fit the category of 'hot'. Of the women in the party, one is very attractive, the other attractive in a country sort of way.

The second waitress is dressed in  full-length skirt and blue top, if memory serves. She wore glasses, methinks, and it seems like her hair was up instead of down.

She blew those other women in the room away. It wasn't even close. I talked to her for a moment. It turned out she was Holiness, not Pentecostal, but the point was, in her modest attire, she smoked the other women in the room like salmon on a grill.

SippinTea

Wow, John. I don't even think I know how to respond to that one.

With all the pressure put on women (whether from outside sources or from themselves), it's a really nice thing when someone bothers to notice a modest woman. And says so. We usually DON'T get told when someone appreciates the way we're dressed.

I hope you told her. :) I'll guarantee you gave her self-esteem a boost with an effect that will last for weeks, if you told her in just the words you posted.

This one may prove to be a great topic to watch.
Have you slapped that one dude from Indiana with a pie in the face today?

I think you're right - john certainly seemed to enjoy watching

There are a lot of times we get singled out for dressing "different" but not many times those singled out instances are for guys to tell us they think we
Quotesmoked the other women in the room like salmon on a grill.

And people still question why I have an attraction to the way amish girls dress.....don't they realize I much prefer the modest woman?  :frustrated:

One of the reasons I had my eye on a prebstyerian girl a while back---minus the head covering --she could have fit in any of the oldtime holiness churches...thought though the long hair and head covering was just adding to her beauty.  Now if their had been a little more fire in her soul instead of the hotsauce at the barb-b-que...well, an encounter with God face to face would fix that...

Long story made short, Very good words bro. John!!!
Only through faith in the Grace of God through Jesus Christ am I saved. No other means and no other actions changes the predestination of my soul.

I think this also has a lot to do with what area you live in.  Girls just aren't appreciated for that where I live.  That is, unless they got lucky enough to catch a guys eye in a church with a ratio of 25:1 girls vs guys.  *sigh*

SippinTea

I'm thinkin' that 25:1 ratio seems to fit most areas of the country.

25 women to 1 man?

25 women to one man??

Where do I go to find these odds? It sure wasn't the church I visited Sunday evening.. though they had a beautiful young Lady with a great voice that was one of their praise singers. _very_ modestly dressed to, I might add.. shown like a beacon of beauty on a dark night.

She's about 23, methnks..and I'm..  :sadbounce:

Not any stranger than people's attraction to redheads!  :biglaugh:

And what is wrong with an attraction to redheads??????????????

A well dressed woman in a skirt/dress beats a well dressed woman in pants any day of the week.

Well, I saw a woman in a skirt once that had only one leg and thought maybe she might be better off in pants, but that is a major exception to the norm.
There is no statute of limitations on murder or bad first impressions.

It is a lot of fun.

if you only fill one leg of the pants, is it not then a skirt of sorts??

You know, I still feel like I get special attention/treatment once in awhile because of the way I dress.  At least I'm assuming it's the way I dress.  lol  I don't THINK it's the way I act. *shrug*  Just the other day a man was coming up a set of stairs as I was going down.  He reached the top of the stairs and stepped aside for me, and I could literally *feel* him watching me as I walked down.  He wasn't creepy.  Just apparently *watching* me.  lol  Made me feel strangely...  Actually, it just made me feel strangely.  lol  Somewhat flattered, but still weird.  I also have random men hold doors for me and step back for me to go first, etc..  Unfortunately, the "gentlemen" in the church don't always act the same.  I'm guessing that those particular "gentlemen" aren't, in actuality, "gentlemen," though.

Fortunately, I have had a handful of true gentlemen in my life who have helped me recognize that not all men really *ARE* created equal.  Unfortunately, I think they have spoiled me.  lol  It's okay, though.  I'll just wait for someone to come along who can treat me like the lady that God intends me to be.

Envelope

In today's society, seems that a lot of men do NOT hold doors open for ladies anymore.  I've watched the SAME man, NOT hold a door open for a lady in pants, and I'll be right behind that lady in a skirt and the guy will JUMP in place and hold the door open for me!!!  I simply think it comes from me actually LOOKING and acting (for the most part LOL) like a lady!!!!

A couple years ago, I was going up the steps into the post office and a very elderly man was going up the steps at about the same time.  I was going to open the door for HIM because of being taught to "respect my elders", but he literally tripped going up the steps to try to get to the door first, so that he could open the door for ME!!!!  It actually made me cry!!!

And, a lot of guys are still suckers for long hair!!!  :-)

*chuckles at Sir John and his raven-haired women woes*

On a serious note, I really think location has a lot to do with the way men treat women. While I was in OK and TX I noticed the majority of the men seemed to hold a higher standard for themselves in the way they deferred to women. (And no, I'm not just talking about the GP men. We already knew they were wonderful men. *grin*) Northwest men don't seem (in a stereotypical sense, but there ARE many exceptions - just to be fair) to be so concerned with things like openings doors and holding chairs. I really have to wonder if it stems from this being pioneer country. Women HAD to be strong to make it. If they were very used to working right alongside their men, they couldn't very well expect their men to treat them like elegant, refined, porcelain women at other times. *shrug* I dunno. But it makes me wonder.

The Purple Fuzzy

LOL, I wouldn't think of TX as refined in the most part.  It was pretty pioneer, too.
