The Drummers Unite! thread was such a hit, here on Godplace, that we reached 28 pages full of totally healthy information and fun! Drummers and non-drummers are welcome to jump into the conversation. The reason we reached 28 pages is because drummers and the people who love them are awesome people. Join me and other fantastic drummers as we discuss the world from a truly unique perspective.
Okay - here's the next thread. What's left to say?!?! OF COURSE....

DRUMMERS UNITE !!!

that reminds me . ..  last year for Christmas i ordered moderndrummer for widrummer as a gift.  so . . i thought it appropriate to put the "from" as mom.

so?  all year long i have gotten a variety of percussion magazines addressed to . .  . MOM!!

:laughhard:

doncha wonder what the mailman thinks?

sorry.  didn't mean to get  :offtopic:  just tough for me to focus these days.

I'm a non-drummer, but I need drumming help...

Know of a DVD or other resource that my church drummer could study at home? He can keep a solid beat (which is better than the last one did!) but I'd love to offer him something to keep learning with. Regular lessons seem to be out for him right now. Any suggestions?

trav?  aren't you listening?  that's not like you. .  .

dave weckl is very good and has a couple of dvds
carter beauford is also very good and has one good one
there is an apostolic one - i think still in production - by eli hernandez

trav should have more ideas, though, since he is the local drummer boy!

oh, by the way, those are dvds that i have bought for my son and other drummers that they liked.  so . . . that's why i would recommend them.

Thanks, Kris! Not being a drummer, I had no idea where to start to find a good resource. Much appreciated!

having a son who is a drummer . . . and not a LOT of money for lessons (or interest) . . . videos are good.  go to amazon.com and check the dave weckl stuff - the dvds might be old, but they are good, according to widrummer.

trav?  you out there, yet?  i know you know WAY more than the average drummermom about drum videos . . .

My brother has some... I'll have to tell him to get on here and post

I went to a really fun event tonight!  It was a drum festival put on by my brother's drumming instructor - about 20+ of his students, all different skill levels.. they mostly played with tracks but there was also a garage band, our band, and then some that just showed off different techniques
we were kinda like the headline group and opened and closed for it - it was really rockin!  LOL
They had both my brother's set and his teacher's set out there so there were several drum duets - very loud but very fun to listen to  lol

It was definitely a uniting of drummers LOL I even thought of this thread while I was there   :thumbsup2:

SippinTea

Nice! Did you get any video/audio clips?

:beret:
oh yes... we had our usual videographer and recording going plus another videographer hired just for this event
I think we hope to have clips up on our usual youtube/aol/google spots soon... usually takes a day or two

I've always wondered... of all words... shouldn't "symmetrical" have been a palindrome or something??

Y'know - I never noticed that! lol - now it'll look like it was meant to be! *grin*

subliminal symmetry.  how cool is that?

Now if only I could get it to flash an occasional subliminal message... Something like 'support drumming untied!' *grin*

Since there are a few non-drummers who are regular posters, let me ask you a question.

Have you ever tried to learn how to play drums? Is there anythign that you like about drums?
PROVERBS 3:5,6

newkris

i don't play and think i would be too easily distracted by all the other sounds around me to be able to play.

i love the sound, the excitement, the feeling that comes with drums . . . the continuity . . . but i like it even more when a drummer uses a lot of variation in their sound.  i am thinking of a Phil Collins song (after Genesis) where it feels as if the beat is going to be off, but it isn't . . . he waits until the last possible nanosecond to hit .. . but it's always perfectly timed.  know what i mean?  i think the song is called Edge of Night or something like that.  love the drums on that song. .  .
