Title: Roscoe, Minnie and Newsman makes three, talk about the meetup in Sharing 453!
Post by: Lynx on December 26, 2011, 06:27:31 PM
I know, I know, there's already a meetup discussion thread.  It was the best I could do on short notice.

My dog has decided its perfectly ok to pee on anything fabric. Her bed, the couch, my bed. Mad doesn't cover it.

Then this morning a belt snapped in my car. No power steering for me!

Can it please be time for church now?

Howdy y'all.

Yesterday was a nice lazy day.  Only thing I got done was putting some money in my checking account to cover a future purchase, mailing a watch to someone who forgot one and either freezing or dumping holiday leftovers from the fridge.  All together that took maybe 45 minutes... I have nothing at all to show for the rest of yesterday, except that I am now totally over the stomach virus I had and I feel great today.

So now you know why I was hovering on the forum so much.  :)

I need an attitude adjustment, a happy pill, or my current pill to stop assaulting my emotions. If you cringed at any of that...sorry.

Anywho. On a positive note, I did get lots of sleep last night. Went to bed at like 6...woke up a few times, and then got up at 6:10 this morning for work. Working today, tomorrow, and Friday, then my brother's ceremonial wedding is Saturday. Jeremy's coming down Friday for that - yay! I am the ONLY one getting up earlier than 7am! It's already old.

12 hours sleep can make anyone feel draggy the next morning.  This too shall pass.  But it'll seem like forever before it passes.

For an attitude adjustment/happy pill, have you tried a riesen?  Everyone needs a riesen.  :D

Ughh. I do not like Lou working second shift. We stayed up to greet her when she got home, which was well after midnight. I'm really not a fan of seeing two and three o'clock twice in one twenty-four hour period.... anyhoo, I'm up and rarin' to go.

Now I've all day to kill, with the only thing I really need to do is reurn an overdue library book. Tonight is church, with a visiting minister, Bro Ryan Wardwell. Looking forward to it, last week he flat carried the mail, so to speak. VERY annointed.... :waving:

Roscoe:  This a permanent switch to 2nd shift, or just for a few days or weeks?

Either way, blah.  2nd shift means you miss out on everything everyone else is doing.   :-\

Thank God, it's temporary. She had to train some of their new managers and her boss thought it would go easier on second shift. It was just for a coule of niights.

FYI: The Chocolate Gravy Experience will be this Saturday morning.  I'll be making homemade buttermilk biscuits so it can't be blamed on that.  I will take pictures and perhaps a video of the family trying it for the 1st time. (http://gfxlovers.com/smilies/imgs/scared/scared002.gif)

As long as you realize that what you have is prepackaged and might not be as good as "homegrown"....

And make sure to put a big ole lump of butter on the biscuits before pouring the gravy over it.......

I submit instant chocolate pudding mix is NOT the same as homemade chocolate pudding and nowhere near the same as homemade chocolate gravy.

Store bought chocolate pudding mix might be the same as instant chocolate pudding flavor though...

Here is a new one--not chocolate tho!!

Peanut Butter Gravy

Sausage grease or bacon grease
Flour
Milk
Peanut butter
Salt and pepper

Brown flour in the sausage grease. Stir in 1 heaping tablespoon of peanut butter. Add milk as necessary to reach desired consistency. Salt and pepper to taste. This is great on toast, biscuits or hash browns.

And I notice that they are pouring the gravy out of a teapot- if'n you can pour it like that, it ain't made right. That's thin chocolate syrup!
It should be the same consistancy that your basic sausage gravy is... And ain't no way that imposter that uses pudding mix can call the abomination she makes "Choclate Gravy". :nono:

Poor Healthy Meller Yeller.... Chocolate gravy undergoes a Miraclous change if allowed too, kinda like Jesus changing the water to wine.  :hypocrite:
Trust me, piping hot chocolate gravy over real buttermilk "cat head" biscuits with a thick glob of butter- not margarine- it's pure dee heaven.  :hypocrite:  :laughhard:

It IS kinda rich though. You healthy types may not be able to handle so much goodness at one sitting.  :hypocrite:

1) I ain't sure at all that you'll convert. Sometimes folks stay so comfortable in their rut, they nevr jump out.... :laughhard:
2) So far, all the organic stuff I've saw are veggies. NOT fer me. And alot of things are unneeded. Choclate for instance. But I ain't giving it up. Or my steak..Or my beloved Dr. Pepper.... :hypocrite:

LOL.. They developed a tasted for pesticide saturated corn, huh?  Well, they must be in that rut to which you were referring.

I'm not that healthy, really.  We can rarely afford organic, but I do make as much from scratch as possible to minimize the grocery bill and unneccesary chemicals.  Some things though, I am still in a rut in.  Pepsi is my one weakness.   ;)

Glory! There might be hope for you yet....
And I was surprised to discover that "organic" apparently means "expensive" around here. I wish we were in a position for Lou to be a stay at home mom- I'm sure we would eat more healthy to a degree. With both of us working, though, the temptation to grab something quick and easy is strong.

I thought my sister was going to help me tend the fowl but she apparently didn't understand that that was my request and didn't.....so I just went ahead and slowly did it myself...  Good lord.....

And stupid people...ugh....  Some guy called the other day wanted some birds....he named off a few things, was gonna call me yesterday again and come and get some stuff...  Well, he calls me and he was on his way home, and he doesn't know where anything is around here, coming from the direction where it's not straight forward from a highway....  So he was sposed to call me back when he got to a certain intersection and I would give him all the turns and directions....  Never called me.

This evening, he texts, and only says he wants the 10 chickens (roosters) for $3 deal.  Then he texts and says can I meet him so he can find my house?

So while I waited for a minute to regain control of my wishes to tell him his a blue blazing idiot, I called and left a message for Bro. Nelson at Sanders to update him on the sick and afflicted here....which I shall state here in a minute...  Then I text him back after he texts me the same thing again...

And tell him, it's not worth if for me to meet him just for the $3 of stuff.  And, I'm sick currently and don't feel like messing with it at the moment anyhow.  To which he replied, "Ok then."

If I met him someplace where he could find, it would be the intersection mentioned above, and that's about 9 miles away.  Going over there and back would burn me up about maybe $1.70 worth of gas, give or take just as a rough estimate.  Leaving me a big profit of $1.30.  Which would be for my hour of time.  $1.30 an hour...woo!~~~~

What I always want to tell these people is, I could knock these birds in the head and throw them in a ditch and come out ahead because then I wouldn't have to feed them and I'd be saving money.  Loons....

Anyways....

The other deal is, my dad is going to go have surgery on the place he had hernia surgery several years ago this Friday now....cause he saw a surgeon in the hall when I was in the Hosp. that told him maybe he could help him....after many times before having told him he didn't think he could.  So he went to him today, and is sposed to have surgery Friday now.

Lord.

I'm just gonna rent out a wing of the hospital and this whole rotten bunch of us is going to move into it for an extended stay.

Cletus doesn't complain a bit about my cooking....lol   There is a reason he's gained weight in 15 years.

Here is the verdict at my house--2 kids are scared to try it.   One kid tried it and said its okay but he likes reg ol gravy better.   One kid is still sleeping so he will chime in later.   Me?   ohhhhh mercy that is some good stuff!  With a side of bacon makes it even better!  It was super simple to make too!

Just make sure you don't forget the butter.  Chocolate gravy, even the best homemade chocolate gravy, just isn't the same without a lot of real butter between it and the biscuit.

Morning y'all.  Today looks to be a gadabout day, as Grandma's car is in the shop and this is her day to get her hair done, help with something at the nursing home and shop.  And then we'll probably go to a really good chinese buffet place.

Good timing on the whole day, as I have been off work all week and haven't gone much of anywhere so far.  :)

I have been 100 percent lazy during my time off and have slept in every day of it. Think I'm fixing to run to town and get some mushrooms and some stewed tomatoes so I can make herb chicken breast with one of those slow cooker  sauce packs... Now I wonder why that receipe name and ingredients reminded me of Meller Yeller? :biglaugh:

And Sarba, I'm glad the gravy was good for you. Now, when Mini and I stumble through your area in Rusty this spring, we will expect a plate of it- or at least I will. That communist Mini will probably want bean sprouts or some other froo-froo food. :laughhard:

Well I now have flea/tick collars on the cat and dog.  The dog is cool with it but Nancia is still a kitten and is unaccustomed to having a collar on her neck so she keeps scratching.  I tried to tell her the collar is to KEEP her from having to scratch stuff...

What?  Yes, I know it's winter.  They can get fleas and ticks in the winter too.  And I want to have them used to collars before spring, when they'll really need them.

Speaking of Jeremy... We almost killed one another over our invitations haha. Iget frustrated on his use of time and how he worded the invite. He hates how quick I shut him down. I sure am glad I'm not a diabetic...  I'd be in trouble now.  After mixing up the sourdough and setting it to rise, Grandma and I split a honeydew melon, then peeled, sliced, fried and ate a plantain.  Good breakfast, but I hate to think what my blood sugar would be.

Fried plantains come in somewhere between a banana and a sweet potato.

Yeehaw!  (http://urduart.com/gallery/data/682/girly025_2.gif)

There's a new family moving here tonight.  Nathan is going to go help them unload their Uhaul with some other guys and I made them an apple pie which is almost done.  Someone said they're from TX but not sure where in TX and their last name is one I haven't heard before so I can't remember it yet.  I am terrible with names.

Also, our music leaders had their baby!  Lillian Isabel, can't wait to meet her.  Babies are so fun.

Hearty split pea soup (with sausage and carrots) and rolls is what's for dinner.  I know it's not all that exciting but it's my occupation and it feels good when I can do a good job. ☺  Makes me wanna share the successes.

School starts back up next week.  :-(  My kids are so hilarious, makes housework more fun. ☺

Lou called a bit ago and said that she's needed to work over for a few hours and it will be after 5 or later before she makes it home, so it's just me and AngelFluff... I'm actually semi-ashamed of not doing any of the many projects I had planned for my vacation, but man, I needed the rest.

Seems like life is racing by so fast nowadays and I don't ever get the chance to slow down from the ratrace. :(

Tomorrow night is NYE, what's everyone doing?  We're either going to a party or the party will be moved here to accomodate for more people.

hahaha, someone offered to bring their Christmas tree over and donate it to us for firewood.  Hilarious and a blessing!  Our fireplace heats up the entire downstairs.

NYE = Watch Night Service. Last year was my first and unless I am exhausted from working then helping my cousin move...I'll be there...or I'll be here curled under a blanket asleep.

Days where it's bitterly cold I have a really hard time getting warm and staying warm after I've been chilled at work....

Fresh sourdough, just out of the oven - two slices.
Mayo - 3 tsp.
Turkey, butterball brand, deli really-thin-sliced - about a quarter pound.

Yum!

Lord, I'm done in.

Dad's surgery went well.  They took a piece of mesh, and a stitch out of a nerve, from his surgery 11 years ago that crippled him up.....  Hopefully that will help.....  They kept him overnight....or so we thought...think...something....now we're not sure if they're going to go ahead and let him go or not.

I'm wore out.

A hawk killed Henrietta, the chicken with the biggest personality at the Ranch.  *sigh*  I hated that it was her (hate for any...a guinea was killed yesterday....and 3 pigeons were killed when I was in the hospital and right after I got out....there's a hawk who's days are numbered.....).....  Dad was more upset afraid that it was her than I am.

*sigh*  Poop.

Anytime I am ill or otherwise encumbered, all Hades breaks loose here.....it's insane.

Before dad went into surgery, my doc saw my mom back in the surgery area and asked her what she was doing there, and asked if I was there too, and he came out and seen me, asked how I was and about the plague I just had.

I still don't know if the man could core an apple, but by golly he's nicer than all get out. lol

It's crazy how many people you see that you know when you sit in the hospital all day.  Bro. Nelson was in there and stopped and talked for a few.  Among may others.

Before me and mom left we stopped in and seen Sis. Stanger.  She's not doing well at all, but bless her heart she is faithful as clockwork.  Whenever she does finally leave this old world behind, surely the heavens are going to open to receive her to glory.  If not, then the rest of us sorry scrubs are poop outta luck.  :freaky:

Came home and tended fowl while ago.  I plan to bury dear Henrietta.  Other mass deceased I generally just take and toss out to the wilds of nature, but bless her little feathered chicken heart, I'm gonna have to bury her out by the garage which she so dearly loved.  *sigh*

I just tried a new version of egg custard pie.  It turned out better than the original, but not quite what I had in mind.  I know exactly what I want to do next time.

In the meantime, I have a whole pie (minus what I ate) here.  I wish I had someone here who's appetite could keep pace with my cooking.  I like to cook and I like to eat, but I always have to wait to finish eating what I cook before I can try the next thing I have in mind.

Maybe I'll cut it up in squares (to hide the fact I ate a big piece) and take it to that family that I pick up on the church bus route.  It's a big family, they'd have it eaten before I left the driveway I bet.  Then I could try my next pie without having pies stacking up on me.  :D

Taco:  Glad you liked it.  I tried to think of everything nobody else ever thinks about until they reach for it and it's not there.  :)

Anybody else who wants a piece of egg custard pie, come on over and help yourself.  I'll even whip up some cream cheese icing to put on it.

Morning y'all!

Vacation almost over.  Just one more day of doing nothing, then Sunday (which is always busy) then back to work.  I am SO ready!

Mind you, I like a couple or three days off.  But a whole week with nothing at all to do is just too much.  I get stir crazy, which is worse for me because it just compounds my normal level of crazy.

I buried Henrietta earlier.  Wore me outtttt....just dug a hole with post hole diggers, wasn't anything huge....   I have no energy or strength.  I have 57 tons of poop that needs cleaned up, but I don't want to overtax my abdomen at this point, plus I don't have that much energy still anyways.....  Lord....

I don't want to strain myself on this hay this time either, it didn't feel good last time I had to mess with it.

Today would have been a gorgeous day to go hiking. Instead I'm stuck out at APB's house [which is filthy. His parents apparently don't believe in housecleaning and leave it all up to him and he hasn't been here for a few days......] But it's all ok. I'm making chili for everyone since they have no money because his mom has spent it all since she's been staying out here whining depressed because her car STILL isn't fixed. This woman infuriates me!! She does absolutely nothing to better here life and just sits and complains 'woah is me. why does all this bad happen to me? etc etc'. Get off your keister and do something about it!!! AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

Sorry. Didn't realize that was going to become a rant......

I wish I were hiking today......

You missed Roscoe, Newsman, minnesota and a new guy meeting at, and wiping out, a Golden Corral.  I hear reports of Roscoe doing laps in the chocolate fountain and Newsman pulling up a chair at the buffet bar.

The new guy is now dutifully afflicting Roscoe here as the new member NewLife101.
Title: Re: Roscoe, Minnie and Newsman makes three, talk about the meetup in Sharing 453!

For the record, I did not do lap(s)......I didn't even complete the first lap before I was overcome by chocolate. If it hadn't been for Mini diverting the fountain into his mouth it might have been Death by Chocolate, though. :laughhard:

And today has been decent, all in all. I got to chat with a good friend all the way home- nearly an hour- and then I got a call.
Our dryer has been acting up, and I really didn't know how we could afford to replace it. I just prayed that God would make a way and continued to use the old dryer. As I posted recently, my dear aunt had a mental episode that resulted in her being diagnosed with dementia/early onset Alzhiemer's. Her kids placed her in the nursing home my mama is a resident of, and while she is still somewhat normal, we are picking her up for church ,ect.
Anyway, she had told us a while back that she would sell us a dryer she had placed in storage. I figured with everything else going on we were outta luck.
Then today my cousin called and said that if we wanted the dryer to come by her house. :o And now, God has provided us with what appears to be a nearly new Maytag dryer. And even better- it was FREE! Aunt Margaret said she couldn't use it, and since she's in a home, she can't spend money, so it's ours.
Proof that God takes care of His....... :thumbsup2:

Our "old" dryer really isn't that old. About a month or so ago, maybe two, it started screeching really loud, like a bearing going out. But it doesn't do it all the time. I started to look at it, quickly realized it was beyond my skill level, and just prayed for it....lol. I suspect it will be relatively cheap to fix if someone knew what they were doing- but I don't. I may see about getting it fixed later.

Newsman:  Further WEST?  The previous one was too far out of range for me, and I'm east of there.

Chellebelle:  For real.  I take "all you can eat" seriously and plan before I start digging in.  First fruit, then carbs/starches, then veggies, then meats and cheeses.  Any other way and heavier stuff gets in the way of lighter stuff and you can't eat all you want.  If I don't have a group to hide in the middle of, those buffet places can spot me and keep me out.

Bout the same for me.  Mapquest/google map says it's 4.5 hours.  I don't remember how long it took when I went through there... all I really remember was trying to follow Chel through big cities with heavy traffic, when she seemed to forget she had someone following her and was cutting in and out of traffic like she was in the Indy 500.

Wait... sorry, this isn't the pick on Chel thread.  Shoot.

Speaking of online maps, they are great for setting up stuff.  Pick an interstate exit and they will tell you what restaurants and hotels are nearby.

Speaking of hotels, are we making this an overnight thing or a day trip?  Or has it not really been planned that far yet?  I'd like to meet as many as possible.  We could even get someone to be the coordinator, the one people call if they can't find wherever we are meeting - probably Chel, as I imagine she has everyone's phone number anyway.

All of Ya'll just need to drive over to Pigeon Forge TN for a meet-up. There is a mean buffet there that will put Golden Stable to shame. Then me and the wife could drive down and join in. HeatherB could possibly make it too if it were there. It might even be closer for Isaac.

All of Ya'll just need to drive over to Pigeon Forge TN for a meet-up. There is a mean buffet there that will put Golden Stable to shame. Then me and the wife could drive down and join in. HeatherB could possibly make it too if it were there. It might even be closer for Isaac.

What he said!!! Plus if I dont have a road trip worthy car I'll just stand on the interstate and hope the newlyweds pick me up on the way :P

It would be a bit further to Pigeon Forge than to Little Rock (Tennessee is a long state) but I've made that trip more than once.  It's doable, but as an overnight thing, not a day trip.  Some good little hotels in that area too, and many things to do.  I know the best go-kart track as well.

The two caveats are that it would be a lot farther from Roscoe, Newsman and minni, and that someone would have to keep me from going to the Russel Stover factory outlet and backing up the truck.

IF this were done, and Lou and I could swing it....well, Isaac, I'll bring the truck. Might have a problem retrieving your share of the chocolate though. :laughhard:
Also- Anyone know if there is a chocolate gravy supplier in that area?

When we did the OK meetup, we all just pitched in on ingredients and I cooked the food there at the cabin.   Saved money that way.  That could be done if y'all did the meet up at the Petit Jean state park and got a cabin or something. ;)

It feels odd or even less spiritual at first when adjusting but now I absolutely love it.  It's like everyone gives more in the 1 service and then it's an actual day of rest and good fellowship.  :thumbsup2:

Went to church, survived, came home.

Went to church at Sanders, they had church at 1 today since they had a watch service last night.....  Figured I could die there as easy as at home.

Back home, eating supper or something.

I don't feel awful, I just don't feel good.....hope I'm not having something bad going on.  But, it didn't feel awful to begin with when I did have something bad going on.  Sometimes being "a rare creature" leaves room for doubt.....

So I'm basically just sitting around wondering if I'm dying.  :smirk2:

And still having weak and nervous spells.

Seth just make sure you repent and say lots of prayers and if you are dying, you'll be in a better place. Look at the bright side and don't worry so much.

MelB, am I going to have to start reading the forum to you every night? ;)

My mom gave me a simple faux cheesecake recipe that I think I am going to try...it's super simple. 2 bricks cream cheese 3 cups milk and any 2 jello pudding mixes. Blend well and then pour into any pie crust! So simple. You can top it with whip topping or just leave it be. I'm thinking about doing a layered one with two different puddings. Roomie and I are talking about like Mocha and Dark Chocolate...and then make some cappuccino whip topping....hmmm

Just for the sake of argument- If we did have the meet at Petit Jean, which I think is a marvelous idea, what time of year would be most convienant for everyone?
June I think is out- car show one week, I think Mini has several church functions that month, and from late june to early September we will cook there... unless we were to make it the first week in June.
Right now, I am tentativly making plans for a weekend type trip in rusty with another car nut in late may....but that could change. Weather will probably be nicest in late April through early June, then again September- October.

I'd really love it if we get enough folks to do this. I might even tak Bro Papa into smoking up some of his bbq for a meal or two... :fork:
And we are fairly centrally located, I think, for most of us. And Petit Jean has some awesome trails to walk if we get energetic....

March is good.  I think mid- or late-March.  Springtime, nothing major planned except St. Patrick's day, Easter still on the horizon.  Go Friday whenever you get there (Roscoe, being closer, would be in charge of getting there first in the morning to hold down the fort for other arrivals,) hang out until Saturday mid-afternoon or so (giving me time to hotfoot it back in time to get some sleep before typing the bulletin and driving the church bus Sunday.)

How much for two cabins?  One for guys and one for girls.  And how many guys can fit in one of those cabins, how big are they?

Lord. I ain't got a clue. I've never rented one, living within twenty miles or so of there. Worse case scenario, we could rent campsites. Everyone would be welcome of course to come out to the house for showers, ect. And there also is a little motel on the mountain that we might be able to rent three or four rooms if the cabins are cost prohibitative....

If Taco and his wife can get down to where I am, it would save gas if they rode with me the rest of the way.  I have a minivan.  Of course there is something psychologically good about having your own car with you, not having to depend on someone else for transport...

Roscoe, as you are closest, could you make a call and see how big and what price those cabins are?  It's long distance for me.  :D  No rush though, we got at least two months to plan even if we do have it in March.

When we rented a cabin, it had two bedrooms and a big living room.  It would sleep 6 or more.  It was quite a few years ago and I think it was about $150 a night back then, but not sure.

Possible. I'm looking at making a trip to Lumberton MS in March the week of March 11-18th. I might leave early enough from MS to get to this Petit Jean? on Friday..I plan on arranging off that Sunday the 18th from local church duties. If it was a later weekend in March, I might also swing it, if it were wrapping up late Saturday. I could try other dates later in the year as well

How far is this from Ft. Smith?

And it looks to be between Ft Smith & Little Rock, right along I-40. Not a bad spot for me, even if I drive over from McAlester.. I'd guess 200ish miles, one-way. On rare occasion, I drive that far and back, in a 24 hour period for work, plus do work on-site.

Your phone identifies itself to the network.  That's one reason I don't have an iphone, because a data plan is required.  That goes against my "don't tell me how to use my own stuff I paid for with MY money" philosophy.

Nice little bird Seth.  Very colorful, you'll be able to find it in the dark.  If that picture were taken in this room I'm in though, there wouldn't be any angle you could take the shot with so little clutter in the background.

Thanks, Sarba.

This is tenderness and pain in my low abdomen, mostly down below belly button....  But I have random pains everywhere...and I do mean pretty much everywhere...lol

It's not just like the appendix issue started out, but there are similarities to it, so it worries me.

I did just talk to the doc and he didn't seem to be concerned that I wouldn't live till morning.  So that's somewhat of a comfort, but not making me feel any better really. lol

Said to call him back if I feel any worse.  So hopefully I won't.  The stupid thing of it all is, I have a high pain tolerance and didn't have normal symptoms to start with with the appendix thing, so it's hard to know whether something is wrong with me or not. :P

Burning all that sappy pine in there you'll have a chimney full of creosote and catch the house afire. :P

Went out to tend the fowl earlier, and mom called out to me on my phone and said dad couldn't get ahold of my sister, to go check on her and see if she'd been trampled by the cows.  :eyebrow:  So I went down there and she was in the kitchen on the phone to my niece.  So then I ended up sitting down there a long time and discussing our manifold afflictions.  Mom called after a while to see if we had both been trampled since I didn't come back.  :freaky:

Came home, finished the fowl.

Burning all that sappy pine in there you'll have a chimney full of creosote and catch the house afire. :P

Haha  wait, does sap do that?  We are careful about what else we put in there but I didn't think about the sap.

He's right, green wood (not dried out) will make a lot of buildup in the chimney.   Especially pine or other evergreen, with its gummy sap.

Chicken minions are perhaps slightly more useful as they can produce eggs and drumsticks.  I prefer a cat minion (only have one) because a cat can curl up in your lap and purr.

I'm back at... home.  School starts back up tomorrow.  Perhaps I enjoy my kids being home because I make them help with the housework.  Makes sense right?  I do a ton of extra cooking during break, they help even it out.  I'm brilliant.

It's supposed to get to 61° on Friday?!  How awesome is that?  After 3 days of violent cold stinging winds, it's going to be freakishly warm for this time of year.  Didn't last year it get to -30° in January here?  I can't remember when but IA had gotten -50° and I remember being thankful it wasn't THAT cold.

Not much to do today but housework, get some milk, help the kids practice their BQ scriptures.  It's almost quizzing time!

Mel-Mel, guess what?  After 6 months, Nathan is almost done with the R.Alcorn book.  He couldn't read it by itself so it has been his 2nd choice while reading G.Bush's memoir and some other books. He enjoyed it though.

He wants to read another memoir.  Any suggestions?

Here's a site where Grant's memoirs are kept for anyone to read.  http://www.bartleby.com/1011/
There is a popup ad of course, and I have no idea what that ad on the sidebar is - probably one of those online role playing games - but the memoirs themselves are straight.

BTW, juuust in case anyone else would like to try this.  If you mix 2 cups UNsanded grout with whatever kind of 1 gallon of paint, it makes it chalkboard paint. Here's some pictures of things other people did with it.  I will post pictures of Hannah's room when we get the trim on.

Hannah is coloring her walls right now and it's coming off fine.  ☺

I got some at Lowe's, Home Depot would have it too.  In the flooring section.  It's what one would use to tile a shower.  I bought way too much and it was only $10. Sanded grout is for floors usually and UNsanded grout would be for wall tile. Just means it doesn't have sand in it. You want the UNsanded Ruby.

In other SHARING news:  If you slow down your music program and play a song, then return speed to normal for playback, it makes you sound a lot better than you really are.  :D  And sometimes it can be essential if you really want to get a song recorded but are not good enough to play it yet.

The only thing I wish we would've done for Hannah's room is made it completely smooth.  There was already a slight texture to the wall, which is fine for her coloring but if I ever do it again somewhere else, I'm going to make it smoother.

I think I need a haircut.  This has nothing to do with anyone else here, just SHARING.

In other SHARING news:  First night back at work, I got some bad news.  Due to problems on 1st shift, the new factory rule is no sound systems with outlying speakers.  This unfortunately affects me, because I had two sets of speakers, one at each of the furnace lines I have to cover, connected to one audio plug that I could plug my music player into.  My speakers aren't big, and the reason I set them up like that is so I could listen to my music at both stations without turning it up so loud that it blasted across the whole factory.  But my setup qualified, even though the boss admitted they were small speakers and I never turned them up too loud.

What's so bad about that?  If you knew me and my music, you wouldn't have to ask.

So on lunch break I went down to the Dollar Store and got some t-shirts with a pocket in the front.  They are a perfect snug fit for this:   http://www.amazon.com/Altec-Lansing-iM227-Orbit-Speaker/dp/B004CYKEBK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325698979&sr=8-1
I tested the concept half the night last night and it works fine.  Now let's see what the boss says when he sees it.

Don't I wish!  That was actually what people used when I first started there, and that was the first time (of many) that they changed the rules - no headphones or earbuds.  My boss agrees with me that the best solution all around is to have one earbud in for music, one out to keep an ear in reality.  I could have my music, I'd still be able to hear when the forklift was coming, and I could keep my music to myself.  But the boss, in his words, "can't get it past the safety nazis."

Isaac, I got the fabric for your sound board cover today. There's one large-ish order ahead of you, technically, but she's not in a hurry so I may just work on them both simultaneously. Yours is much more straight-forward, and I may keep some sanity that way. *lol*

woke up late. fell down the stairs. got to work late. my favorite cow ignored me. i had to fix three peoples mistakes. went to mommys and had sketti.( that was the high point of my day) came home. got a text message that made me cry. cried longer. listened to some music. straightened my hair. leaving for church in 40 minutes give or take. I'll probably cry while I'm there. I guess today makes up for yesterday.

I feel like if I post why I was crying it will make it too real..and I'm already crying again...My bf decided he would be better off with out me. I guess I should have listened to everyone... :frustrated: :wah2:

:waving: Back from church, which went well. And yesterday, I finally got my Brother Daniel Ballinger Cd I ordered sometime ago. Man- it's awesome, in my opinion. And tomorrow's my friday. I may whup this week yet....
And ISG- even though it hurts, this could be the best thing that happens to you. Maybe, just maybe, God saw that this man was going to draw you away from Him and saw fit to move him out of your life to keep from losing you. God is merciful enough to help deliver us from situations that aren't good for us, but we lack the strength to remove ourselves from.
Some of the most painful things I have gone through were, in retrospect, the best things that could've happened for my walk with God. They forced me to draw closer to God, and as a result, made me more like Him.
And looking back- everything I "lost"- God replaced with much better. I'll never forget watching the girl I was head over heels for marry a friend of mine. I knew I'd never have happiness again, and I'd never have another relationship like that again.
Now, ten years later- she's divorced and backslidden, with two out of wedlock children and has been deep into drugs. My friend's walk with God was destroyed and he's backslidden- not entirely her, I'm sure, but it didn't help.
And me- God gave me the most wonderful, beautiful, Godly woman alive to be my helpmeet, and a beautiful baby girl. If I'd had things my way, I'd probably be in prison right now instead of coming home from standing in a pulpit.
Keep your chin up, kiddo, we're praying and pulling for you.

I know this would probably surprise most of you, but I am actually kinda reserved in church and crowded situations, and I don't tend to pray loudly, or dance and shout a lot. Most of the time, if God is moving that strong, I'm in a back corner crying my eyes out and talking to God. Just my way of worship I guess.......

Bleh.

I stayed up late arguing with a computer I'm trying to de-virus for a coworker.  He said just wipe everything out and reinstall.  Two bad newses:  This is Vista (BLECH!) and it has no recovery partition.  One good news:  It's not as bad as he said it was and I can probably fix it.

In the meantime, since I got to sleep late and my stupid body gets in the habit of getting up at a certain time, I am now up and running with less than my normal amount of sleep.  Oh well, there's always caffeine...

Oh, and the boss didn't have any problem with my shirt pocket speaker.  :)

Just placed an order on amazon.com for a spare speaker.  Just in case.

Oh yeah... that Altec Lansing speaker I mentioned, it runs on three AAA batteries.  It was running for a full shift last night and about three hours the night before, at an impressive volume (because the leak check machine I have to use at work is LOUD!) and it's still running on the same three batteries.  Don't know how long they will last, but I'm already impressed.

Sis. Stanger passed away tonight.

Hate to see her go, she was a sweet lady, but glad she made it home.

We sung a chorus at church tonight that made me think of her (at which time was before she had passed) that her and Bro. Stanger sang before, Touring That City.

So now she is doing just that.

I dreamed of taking down a Christmas tree...and we hadn't even discussed your plans for today.

I would appreciate any and all prayers. The last few weeks my back has been hurting off and on, and the last two days have been the worst of all. Wednesday night I cried myself to sleep because of the pain. Last night, dad gave me a pain pill and I slept on a hot rice bag and I woke up a bit ago in excruciating pain still.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but I know God can take it away.

Thanks.

Setting up that computer for a coworker, finally.  He kept saying the thing didn't come with a recovery disk, but I couldn't find a recovery partition anywhere.  So he finally found the disk that didn't exist, and while I slept Windows reinstalled itself on his computer.

It's a merchandising job with American Greetings....you take care of the greeting card and such inventory in various stores.

Well, 1 out of 3 ain't bad....maybe....

The city stole all my trees before I got there...so I came home empty handed on that....  Then when I came into the yard, I turned too short and hit the edge of the trailer fender on a fence post and scraped the edge of it and bent it a tad.   Lord.....why me?!  Ugh.  Oh well, could be worse.

The positive point is I got the job.

So I'm going to be a little old card lady.  :P
What exactly will you be doing? I think I missed something.
Ya think? If you'd quit clowning around so much, and pay attention....... :P

If you get lost in a Wal-Mart, do what a friend of mine did.  He wandered around asking people how to get out, but they all said they'd been there for days and couldn't find the way out either.  So he yelled, "FIRE!" and when the truck came he followed the fire hose out of the building.

Welp, in spite of running late, I got chey to school on time. Now to clean up the house a bit, get a hair cut (all three of 'em) and go get a Bro Papa's BQ Frito Pie.... :fork: eat your heart out, Mini. And I'm driving Rusty to get it, and washing it down with a Mexican Coke.  :P

SETHERS!! You got the job!! *bounces in excitement* I'm so happy for you! Have a hunch you're gonna really like this one. You won't have to deal with many people. ;) Seriously, I'm super excited for you! When do you start work?

*Hugs* Mel. Sorry you're hurting. :headrub:

Heather! *gaspchuckle* No doubt that will cause a few rumors to fly! *grin*

Mom flies out Sunday for Hawaii. I'm praying this trip will be wonderfully relaxing for her. And that she'll come home refreshed and energetic and ready to dive into life again. The last year has been brutal for her.

Not having the best day. I woke up this morning with various aches and pains in my body the worst of which is my left arm. It feels like I have torn a muscle or something loose from the bend of the arm all the way back up into my shoulder. Can't stand to bend it hardly at all. I have 3 assignments I need to finish, and study for the adult Sunday school lesson in the am and I can't seem to focus on anything. Prayers would be appreciated!!! Just not hitting on all cylinders today.

They can send Caribbean Greetings.

That's apparently a division of American Greetings.  When Bro. & Sis. Morris from Jamaica send us a Christmas card it has the AG rose emblem on it and says Caribbean Greetings.

Going to church.   I'm wore out.

Ok y'all, I'm trying not to complain here. But I am in some SERIOUS SERIOUS pain.

I need some prayers, big time.

My back is still hurting bad. Dad got a call to pick up a body and I'm with him, but I barely made it to the van. I've got my hot rice pad on it and I'm in so much pain right now, I'm tempted to have him drop me off at the ER. I'm crying from pain as I type this, as bad as I hate to admit that.

I was fine all day today till about 4pm, then the twinges came back, and I had trouble off and on walking around. Then I finished up at church, went to WM, and Subway and then home. By the time I got home I was hurting pretty bad. Dad asked me to go with him to help keep him awake on this drive tonight, (the FH he is going to is pretty far away, like 30 miles one way) and so here I am, sitting in the van, parked at the hospital morgue, feeling like I'm next.

Please, PLEASE pray. I'm kinda scared that it's a kidney or appendix and not just muscular pain. UGH.

I hope it's not your appendix, dear.....

Mine hurt in my back across my hips, perhaps at the time it was rupturing...don't know exactly when it did that, but after I worked in my grandma's yard it hurt there and I thought it was just from working....  Then that let up....and then in a couple days when I actually got sick with fever and stuff, that first night I hurt in my back and wondered if I had a kidney stone or something....also hurt in my side and abdomen though too....  I think that's when the abscess was working on flaring up.

Anyhoo.....

I hope you feel better...pain and duress is no fun....

w2cch

I'm dreading Monday. :worry:

SHARING:  I got some good news.  This little gophone I picked up used to use 25 cents per minute, but now AT&T only charges a dime.  So for my $100 I get a thousand minutes to use during the year that the $100 is good for instead of 400 minutes.

The 400 minutes lasted me nine months or so, so this 1000 minutes oughta last a while.  Only downside is after the year is up the remaining money is forfeit.

Doubtful.  :smirk2:

The nurse in preop the other day assured me it would be no problem though.  But just the fact of not being able to eat that long and being "trapped" there just makes me freak out just thinking about it.
Title: Re: Roscoe, Minnie and Newsman makes three, talk about the meetup in Sharing 453!
Post by: Chseeads on January 08, 2012, 07:00:11 PM
I am very OCD about it....I can't go anywhere or do anything without having an "escape plan" in the back of my mind concerning how long I will be somewhere, what I will be doing, where I'll be at, when and how and where can I go if I think I need to go eat or anything, and I get very nervous if I get held over longer than planned, etc. etc.

And this is not even a terribly major problem with me, and the vast majority of the time, I am just fine, but there's just some component about it that I obsess over all the time and basically never really have any peace to speak of in any situation.  And this hospital thing just compounds that many times over knowing I can't eat anything plus once I get in there, I'm stuck and can't help myself regardless.

It just drives me insane.

They might as well just put me to sleep as soon as I get there, I'd have a more pleasant day I imagine. lol

I have been tooling around in Linux Mint 12 and I have made an amazing discovery:  I am a grumpy old stick-in-the mud!  In Mint 12 they use Gnome 3.2 desktop environment, which is vastly different from what I was using before in previous Mint OS.  Everything is different, everything has to be done a different way, everything looks different, and I find I liked it the old way and resent the fact that everything was changed (apparently) just for the sake of change.

Bleh!

Well, I finished the assignment and turned it in. I am praying I get a good grade. This week has just took a lot out of me. I don't think I have had a week this hard since going back to school. Please pray next week is better and I am able to understand this stuff better.

Morning y'all.  Still trying out this new OS, still grumbling about things being different, but I'll get over it.  Maybe.

Why can't they just leave stuff where it is?  It doesn't do any good to move stuff around and change how to do stuff, it's not faster or more efficient...

Hello, all. Felt like crud last night, stayed home and slept, then came to work today. Now I find I'm gonna have to leave early. My older sister (48 years old and a backslidder of thirty years or more) had a heart attack. She's concious, but they are sending her to the heart hospital to see what damage was done. She doesn't seem to think about God much, and changes the subject quick if it comes up,but I saw on her facebook page where she "liked" pentecostal recently, so apparently God's been working on her... id  appreciate a word of prayer if anyone is so inclined.

Feeling a little better this morning with a couple of hours of sleep.

What are the rest of you nuts up to this week?

Funny you should call us "nuts."  At the auction house last Saturday they had two pound, eight ounce jars of mixed nuts (deluxe, no peanuts) for $10 a piece.  I got four of them.  With the most diligent attention, we still haven't got the first one half emptied yet.

In the meantime I have at least three songs that I know exactly what I want to do with the soundtrack for them, just haven't gotten around to doing it yet, and a good 10 or 12 old records' worth of audio recordings to edit into separate songs and albums.

So yeah, I'm busy and happy.  :D

Also at the auction house I got two 50-pack of zip ties, the really big ones with a release latch so you can reuse them, four bags of Sara Lee coffee for grandma because dad said they were good (the people at the auction house claimed it was dunkin donuts coffee but dad disagreed just at a glance at the package,) and an industrial two-pot warmer with two small crock pots in it.

Gonna fill the pots with stuff and give it a trial at the next church meet-and-eat.  Probably ground beef with assorted sauces and spices, served with shredded cheese and sourdough bread.  Sloppy joes done right.

My day went from horrible to productive.   Dylan had a really bad morning.  Truly it isn't fair that a 10 year old has so much fear and anxiety because he is starting a new routine after school.  The joys of Aspergers.    Anyway.  When I left the principal was being "tough" on him and making him get his act together and eat breakfast.

I lost my debit card yesterday before church so today I had to look for it.  Ended up cleaning out my bedroom but found my debit card.  It slipped behind my cedar chest when I laid my coat on it and the card fell out of my pocket.  It was lurking in the shadows but I never "saw" it until my room was torn up and then cleaned back up...lol

Almost time to pick up my heathens.  Hoping Dyl is in a much better mood!

Thank goodness no one got to steal it!

And poor kid!! I always hated (and still kinda do) new situations like that. One year, I scratched the back of my knees so much they bled because I was so anxious about school starting and I was going into a new building. Thankfully that never happened again!

I'm off work tomorrow WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I'm going to sleep until like 9, get up and pack! Probably try to do some laundry if I have enough to do. Eat... Take a nap... Then go shopping for a sleeve pattern for my wedding dress, then prayer meeting!

Melodya, I'm doing fair. I was hurting pretty bad again last night, and then this morning I was great! Almost 100%, then dad pressure cleaned the rugs and needed me to sweep and mop the dining room and the kitchen and living room. I swept and hurt so bad I went and took a nap. Never got around to mopping.

Now I'm still hurting a bit. I fixed dinner and ate, now I'm resting.

Melodya, the birds need the prayers...I asked the Lord to help keep things safe myself, cause everytime I am ill, some tragedy seems to befall....  I'm supposed to not lift over 5 pounds for 4 weeks....that's gonna make it really hard to run a bird farm.....holy crud....

Well, yesterday was stinky....  I was super nervous, but things went okay as far as that goes...  The worst of the pain that I have is from having air in my abdomen, that's still not gone....makes it hurt up in my shoulder, and etc.  The incisions and stuff are sore, but the other stuff HURTS....  And my sugar is sky high....  I ended up trying to call the hospital to ask a question about that last night.  There is NO ONE in the whole hospital that can answer a post-surgery question for you like that.  I find that to be totally pitiful....you'd think a surgery department nurse or something should be able to answer simple questions people have....  So I called and had the doctor paged.  He said the high sugar was just a physiological stress response to having had surgery.  Which makes sense I guess...your body has experienced trauma so it's trying to provide "energy" or whatever to itself...I dunno if that's the deal or what...  He disagreed with my description of "sky high" and said to him that would be like 400.  Mine was 198 at one point last night.  To ME that IS sky high....  he said unless it was 250, 300, etc. it gives him no cause for concern.  So hopefully that will just level back out normal as I recuperate with no probs.

He seemed a bit miffed, or something so to speak, that I hadn't discussed my hypoglycemic history with him directly before....I see his point on one hand, BUT, that also aggravates me because if he'd read my chart he should see all that.  That should all be on my record from when I was admitted to the hospital last month and everything cause they ask all that stuff on admission...  It's not my fault if he doesn't pay attention to that I don't think....  I told nurses back then.  I told the preop nurse the other day, and the nurses yesterday.  And everyone of them acted like that was no problem at all to be able to monitor me and make sure everything was okay.  I told the anesthesiologist because he would be the one monitoring my vitals, he acted like that was no problem at all as well.  That they could monitor it, give me something if it was low or anything (which turned out to NOT be the issue at all....none of them ever mentioned the whole stress response making it go high to me either, looks like they would've)....

Anyways, when I woke up in recovery, after I came to a bit, I asked the nurse if she could check it cause I wondered if it was okay.

And what answer do you think I get?

No.  I don't have an order for that.

:getangry:

I said then why has everybody else told me you could check it!?

That aggravated me.  They all said they could, and then when I asked...no.

After that I got mad, I think perhaps aided by the meds I'd been given....  My sister has had that response after being put under anesthesia before too, being madder than fire after we come back to ourselves. lol  (Makes me wonder if I would be a mean drunk if I was a drinker. lol)

Then in the second stage of recovery the nurse was trying to run me out faster than I wanted to go.  I took my sweet time about it and let her just kiss my behind because I didn't feel like moving the way she wanted me to.

Anyways....I lived...so far. lol

Blah.

Don't ever have appendicitis, it's not worth it!!!!!!

Well some lady called from the hospital to check up on me today, and I told her about the issue with them saying they'd monitor my sugar and then not doing it when I asked for it.  SHE herself again told me, that's just a very simple test, they can do it with no big deal, and even if the nurse hadn't had an order for it, she could have easily got one.

Lord.

Makes me wonder if the doc had read my stuff and specifically not signed for that or something....cause he made a statement to me when I talked to him yesterday about sometimes doctors don't give you certain tests because something something something....  I don't know if that was in reference to him knowing I had asked about that or what.

But oh well.  That lady said she'd ask that nurse why she said no.  lol

I forgot to mention the nurse trying to run me out quicker than I felt like getting up.  She said she put me back in the call list for a checkup call again tomorrow, if I don't forget then I can gripe them out about that too.  lol

Sounds like a bunch of borks, Seth.  Sorry you have to deal with them.

I had a headache like no other yesterday, Nathan does today.  The kind that make you nauseaus. blech.

Also, something cute... There is a boy at church that Hannah is friends with.  He likes her and she likes him but they are not allowed to have more than a crush of course, they're NINE.  Well after church on Sunday he told Hannah very casually, "I like you." to which she replied, "I like you too."  That was it, just simple sharing, they just continued hanging out with the kids that were there.  Children's innocense is so sweet.  This boy's dad is kind of short and so he is taken aback by Nathan's heighth...lol  He said he was scared of Hannah's dad cause he's so big.  lol  It's hilarious, it's a friendly scared... we went out for ice cream on Sun. night and Nathan put his frosty on the table by the boy for a minute and looked at him saying, "Touch it and die."  hahaha, the boy just stared kinda shocked at him.  (http://urduart.com/gallery/data/682/girly025_2.gif)

It was great!  I grabbed a differnt type of taco seasoning this time and so it was a bit much...but normally when I make it I use McCormicks low sodium.   I like it best.  I also used a little less sour cream.   I kind of just dolloped a bit on and then spread it into the layer below it.  Eric doesn't like sour cream and he didn't fuss about it so it was a success.   Chase won't eat it because of the black beans but he's the pickiest person alive.  Clint went back for 2nds and the boys had polished it off.

It's not a total loss... Neither one of them dislikes both things.  One likes sour cream and one likes black beans.

But yeah, they'd still starve if they were at your place Seth.  :P

That's Monday's menu, you're making it on the wrong day!

I've got ribs in the crock pot with BBQ sauce, and gonna have yellow rice and okra to go with it.

And I may go to the ER shortly.

Everytime I make up my mind to go, I feel better. I don't want to get there and have to lie to them that I'm in pain when I'm not! It's not NEAR as bad as Saturday evening when I went with dad and was crying in the van. But it's a real dull pain right now. And it's even better now than it was just an hour ago.

I hate this coming and going mess. Makes me not know what to do about anything.

I know what you mean...you hate to go if you're getting better...but you hate to not go if it's just the ebb and flow and it'll be back again.... :tearhair:

Is that anything like the car that keeps making that noise... until you take it to the mechanic, the noise stops and the mechanic looks at you like you're an idiot because he can't find anything wrong?

Wish I were there.  I could make a few suggestions, and if you didn't agree on them I could make a few more, and a few dozen more... :D

Try some Mozart for background music before the wedding, Beethoven for background music after the wedding.  Ode to Joy, forte, on organ, for the recessional.  :)

Bride - beautiful song!! Bridal March by Jonathan Cain
Unity candle - no idea!
Recessional - Shining Star by Boyz II Men

We've spent all morning trying to fill these holes haha

And I'm fighting the plague. Round 4 in 3 months. It's always something. I'd just like a couple hours when something in/on my body doesn't hurt or is completely rebelling against me

Nelle:  Try looking at movie soundtracks for the bridesmaids' entrance.  There are some great musical pieces that can be faded after they come in without losing any of the lyrics.  We ended up using the theme song from the movie "UP" for both me and the bridesmaids.  :-)

SQUIRREL!  :bigcheese:

Have you considered Steven Curtis Chapman's "I Will Be Here" for the unity candle?
Or an old song, "Undivided" or maybe Phillips Craig and Dean's song, "House of Love" or Sandi Patti's "Love Will Be Our Home."

Did you ever finish your invitations?  If not, seriously consider VistaPrint!  They're great, fast, and very inexpensive.

Seth: So sorry it's been such a rough time!

Mel: Praying for you

To the rest of the world: I caught up on the sharing thread JUST in time to post before it's gonna get locked!!!  I had several comments to make, but wanted to just read first...  now some of the comments I was going to make are just GONE from my mind.

To my husband: I love you.   :2love:  I'm so proud of you for going back to school, and REALLY proud of you for doing so well and getting such amazing grades.

Linux has something called gedit, a text editor.  Windows has a poor imitation called Notepad, but both are good for jotting down notes.  ;)

Invitations are complete. :) now I just have to go pick them up to mail them, since shipping mine here would be $20 - which I think is silly! Now everyone will get them mid-Feb..  That too close?

Well...I'm gonna live. I think.

I went to the ER, and they tested me and I have a UTI and the Dr said its caused some muscle strain. So I have antibiotics and pain meds and I'm supposed to be able to live.

Gotta get it filled tomorrow, and I'll be on my way to recovery.

Well since this is sharing, I would just like to share:

I find putting things like your favorite sports team, your hobby, your last name, your kids picture, and numerous other strange things on a cross kind of creepy.

I know a church who is selling crosses like this and it creeps me out. Personally that would really be crossing a line for me.

Okay, I am done. Goodnight.

"Psalms - I have missed reading your post ( don't tell any one I said that )"

Answer A:  Post, singular?  Which one?  If you missed reading it you could have copy/pasted it to a document and saved it you know...  :hypocrite:

Answer B:  Even though I had the unmitigated temerity to be white and without an afro, thus shattering your mental image of me?

In SHARING news, it is very wet around here.  Been raining hard for a few hours now.  My cat is smarter than a lot of people I think... She is smart enough to just take a nap and wait for it to get better.  Every time I go out she is sleeping somewhere in a dry spot.
