Well I just started this one. And I didnt know who locked the other one. LOL
Are you feeling better? And are we going to get an investigation soon?
Honestly (for once on health)
I think I'm doing better, but still a distance from normal..and not in any catastrophic life-threatening way, but several different factors adding up to me still being considerably sub-par (great for golf, not-so-great for health :)
I'm still not motivated sufficiently for a new investigation series, thogh a thought or three has popped up reading stuff..I've been giving considerable thought to a new Yankee Bear episode..I think I pretty much have it all plotted out in my mind (which is how I do it..think it out in advance, then write and add extra detail as it comes to me while going along with writing the story.)
John :waving:
YES!!! Yankee Bear story!! YES!!! Pweese? *looks pitiful*
And, so glad you are doing better. I have been praying for you.

Dear Mr. Grump:
I have been stymied by this question for quite some time.
How do guys define "flirting"?
For a really long time, I have tried not to be labeled a "flirt," but in trying to avoid that label, I find that I am not always "me." It seems that being outgoing and opening conversations and just laughing and engaging a gentleman in conversation can all be misconstrued as "flirting." So what is flirting? Is there a good flirting and a bad flirting?
*sigh*
(I actually think I may start a thread in the singles discussion area about this.)
Lady Elona,
I have no witty reply at the moment.
John :waving:
That's okay. The serious reply is preferable, anyway, as I am on a quest to find some real answers to this question.
me too. I can identify with that as well RJ.... I would really like to know a serious answer as well. And is there a way to let them know that you are not flirting, and just being nice instead?
:lurk:
:beret:
**HUGS** random lurkers
I would say, then, that flirting is defined by it's intent: if the acting person's intent, present or future, is to create more than a friendly or humorous interest in the recipient towards the giver, it is flirting.
John :waving:
Arrrgh!!!!! lol
So - if that's how flirting is defined - why do guys that I'm SO - NOT interested in - think I'm flirting?
And why do I always botch things with the good guys?
When I'm with a guy that I might like, I say stupid things, act stupid ways, and generally make a fool of myself.
When I'm with a nice guy that doesn't seem like a possibility (either he seems off limits, or he's already told me to "take a hike"), I'm me: nice, friendly, outgoing and humorous.
:-\
because you arent under stress?
Hmm..Lady Elona, you DO seem to be 'flirting with' being stressed by this issueof flirting..hmmm.. maybe an investigation is in order? :)
John :waving:
lol Astute observation, but perhaps not in order as much as it seems.
Most of it is that I'm trying to be prepared for next time because I just did the whole botched friendship thing AGAIN.
I wasn't interested. I was just ME. He liked ME. I wasn't interested. I hurt him. I felt guilty. I wasn't interested. I was nice. I was me. Did I mention that I wasn't interested? *sigh* He was a nice guy, but I felt safe with him because of several factors that I thought put him "off limits." I was flattered by his attention. Did I mention that I hurt him? Did I mention that I wasn't interested? :sadbounce: I think my problem this time was that I allowed my self to flirt back and kind of hope for something that just wasn't going to work, and he got even MORE interested.
:(
:headrub:
Thanks, Mel.
*sigh*
Did I mention that I feel guilty?
Did I mention that I should have run when I realized he was getting interested?
Did I mention that I ignored the signs that he was flirting and chalked them up to "lonesome person syndrome"?
*HUG*
Although it may not help much, I would point out that
1) You never meant to hurt him.
2) Human relationships are never an exact science..and
3) We are all only human, and prone to failure at times.

Dear Mr. Grumpye,
Why is it that the so-called Grumpyest of the Grumpye, a.k.a. Head of the GOB Council, can so often hit the nail on the head with observations about relationships?
And how come the GP populace has yet to see his grumpye side, if he's truly as grumpye as all that?

Have you ever taken dance lessons?
What's your favorite newspaper?
What's your favorite Broadway musical?
Lady Melody,
1) Not formal ones
2) Tulsa World, of the two I write for, but as a humorous e-mail circulated once I saw about what the newspaper you read says about you, I am quite fond of the occasional USA Today (if I had the leisure time, I'd read it every day.) BTW, the humor e-mail said something about the USA Today was for people who liked their news with pie charts.. :)
3) Umm..I never think of a play in relation to it being/having been on Broadway..and I'm not into musicals either. the last play I saw put n by a live theater group that I actually went because I wanted to was a medieval Shakespearean production..

It would be nice, Lady Nai,. but I know it won't be this year.
John :waving:
So do you consider it flattering if a gal literally hits you?
Nai
In real, everyday normal life? No.
I have a formal co-worker that is a lady who just naturally slaps, strikes a form of greeting, surprise, emotion, etc. As she strikes with a fair amount of impact, talking to her for long can leave you in a bit of discomfort.
John :waving:
People like that drive me BONKERS! Momma always told me not to hit in any way, shape or form - even my little brother - and even when he deserved it. lol
I'm teasing him after the oooh la la when I hit him with a virtual mace.
Nai
Disclaimer for those unfamiliar with the SCA: this is somehting only marginally violent, but Lady Nai will understand the question, and I bet, as she is a former Midrealmer, that I know what her answer will be:

What is your favorite color?
Blue
Who is your hero?
Secular? hmm, must think on that one
My first sporrts heroes would have been Lou Gehrig and Larry Czonka (even football fans that are under 35 will have to Google Czonka, probably..militaryt-wise, I had from about seven years old a fascination with World War I fighter (in those days sometimes called 'chaser') pilots
When did you first feel called to preach?
I've thought on it for many years, going back even before I got into the Truth..I had thought of going to an Assemblies of God Bible College.
How many brothers and sisters do you have?
Two sisters, both older than I, and a brother who was born and died a few weeks later, years before I was born
What is your middle name?
Anglin, my grandfather, if what I believe I was told is indeed correct, had a friend who had that name.. the family tree has a number of highy unusual names.
What did people call you when you were a child?
My sister(s) hel[fully called me 'carrottop' so I'd 'get used to' it: I had flaming orange hair as a child.
Do you have a favorite song?
None that I can recall off hand..could go into some favorites, but not one that immediately stands out beyond all otyers.
Favorite verse of scripture?
Romans 14:4
Favorite book of the Bible?
Jeremiah 35 would be my favorite chapter..as far as a book..probably 1 Corinthians
Favorite children's song?
Honestly, I gre up as far as reading, listening, and thinking, while most children are still allowed to be children..I learned to count playing cards against my very intelliigent sister, who was in college at the time, likewise my forst poetry was the bizarre 'Jabberwock' that I could quote parts) of at age 5, .. you get the picture...I don't know as I ever was a 'kid'
Thinking back..I can still sing a part of an old Christmas movie song about Mr. Winter, or somesuch.
:sing: Put one foot in front of the other..and soon you'll be walking 'cross the floorrrrr... put one foot in front of the other..and soon you'll be walkin' out the dporrrr :sing:

How many awards shaped like OK do you have?
Lady Melody,
Of the state of Oklahoma-shaped plaques, I now have six.
John :waving:
Do you have any shaped like other states?
I wish I did..that would be wayyy cool!
Those are first place or sweepstakes awards from the Associated Press..the bureau in Oklahoma is the only one I have ever entered anything in..I wrote a special story about a Korean MIA serviceman whose remians have been identified that I thought of entering in Indiana's contest..but I didn't make sure it got on the right station so I could enter it (I can explain further, but It'll be a longer explanation) :)
John :waving::bustamove:
Why dont you come to Florida and see if you can win one here?
I don't know if I'll ever do another radio gig besides this one..I could work a LOT of other jobs and make WAY more than what I make here..but I would likely never again have the level of come-and-go freedom as i have here.
I'm mulling ver a possible change in my #2 job. A friend sent me a job posting for a college slot in West Texas, but I didn't follow up on it.
If I take another position, one like the one in west Texas sounds nearly ideal..perhaps I should have followed after it. Or, perhaps a spokesman for some agency or politico.
John :waving::bustamove:
I just looked at the college's site...they've already filled the position.
John :waving::bustamove:
Well will you at least come to FL for a visit? I know a GREAT AYCE Seafood place! :fork:
I would like to come down and visit, indeed.
I'm thinking my next drive of some distance may be to West Texas for Labor Day, other than a posssible drive over north of Little Rock Arkansas later tis month.
My next long-term trip might be aorund/just after the holidays..I have a pair of holiday basketball tournaments the week between Christmas and New Year's ... I'm just not crazy about holiday tournaments, though the tournament folks treat me well.
John :waving::bustamove:
Have you ever actually been to FL?
No, I haven't..I thik the closest I came was while I was still west of Asheville NC.
I was looking at upcoming SCA events, and their is one in Pensacola Fl in the next couple of weeks..however, it too long and far a trip for me to make, at the moment.
John :waving::bustamove:
Pensacola? That is very close...not to mention Jo and Rissa live there.
I wish I could come, but right now I can't..I need to be careful on a number of areas right now..speaking of right now, methinks me goeth by mine favorite convenience store, and make the journey to my keep on Ford, my trusty steed!
Laters, perchance!

I'll be honest: possibly I would..probably, I think

How old were you when you received the Holy Ghost?

Do you remember being baptized?
Absolutely..the old fashioned way..in a lake
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.
`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
I love Lewis Carroll's work, loved it as a kid and today also (despite the fact that he was on drugs)
Did you like Alice in Wonderland or Through the Looking glass best?
Lady Chris,
I memorized the Jabberwock when I was four or five..and got in trouble in the redneck school I went to for quoting it..they thought I was cussing.
For years growing up, iI missed a lot of the standard works children are exposed to.... I learned some of Homer's work at 4-5, and was reading military history on my own in the second grade. I wound up competing in poetry in high school speech contests, reciting that genteel (not) poem "The Man With The Broken Fingers."
I've dabbled in writing poetry a bit as an adult, and haiku in the last couple of years, as well.

That...really didn't answer my question, but bizzare...yet cool....do you feel like you've missed out on your childhood?
Lady Chris,
You know how evasive the media is: to try and answer your question a little more directly, then, I don't believe I've ever caught the full Alice in Wonderland, and pretty certain I haven't caught Through The Looking Glass, at all.
As to the missing childhood part, I think I did to a certain extent, but it wasn't like I was abused. I still played some as a child, though I grew up from about 7 on in a single parent household. My books were my babysitter to a certain degree.
Although there may have been others, I only recall my father playing catch or somehting similar like that with me once in my life.
John :waving:
That's so funny... my sister and I "translated" the Jabberwock once into Texan. BOL!
 do you remember how it went?
Ah I see...I had seen the Jabberwock reference and assumed I had found a fellow Carroll aficionado (I'm not really one, but anyway)...my bad, I should've learned by now never to make assumptions...or generalizations

It would be the freedom to go to where the action is, the controversy is, and ask the questions an inquisitive person has, and for it to be 'my business' to do so.

BTW, Jayden has asked me to teach him how to fight with a sword..his mother is fine with it, and Bro. Freeman said he'd think about it.
It often puzzles me how children seem so fond of me, the GRUMPYEST of the GRUMPYE.. had a little 6-8 year old girl wanting a couple of hugs Wednesday night at church, one before and one after service, even specifying to me after church "I Want A Hug!"

At church last evening, one of the girls (10ish) that sometimes wants a hug was there, and I made a point to tell her how pretty she looked. Her mother died about a month ago, so the family is going through a lot right now.
Was talking to a woman and her daughter at the Post Office Sunday, the woman knew me but I couldn't place her. her daughter (10ish) got the door for us..that wouldn't do, so I grabbed the door and had the girl go on in before me, too.
Had one, and I actually think two, women completely ignore me in the last few days, as they walked through the door I held open for them. But, that's the exception, rather than the rule.
Lady SippinTea has mentioned once that guys who open the door for her get her best smile (although that was before she met someOne that may now be receiving her "best" smiles) However, I got one of those 'best smile' type responses when I stayed long enough to look odd (hey, I indeed am odd,) in holding the door open for a woman at about 5:45 the other morning at a convenience store.

It turns out the girl I mentioned in the quoted post below has a niece about her age..that is the other of the girls that comes up wanting a hug sometimes..this niece was the one that came up to me at a Wednesday night service earlier this month... I had a very stressful evening, and perhaps the child could sense it.. she walks up and says "maybe this will help," and gives me a big hug for a 9 year old!

1) Less than 1,000 gallons.
2) Not personally. I've worked, up close, two fatality plane crashes, once being asked by law enforcement to go in with the funeral home guy who was to collect body parts, and me to keep a record of them.
I sent you and Lady Elona a PM, titled "Ladies in Love" :bigcheese:
John :waving:
Did you get any rest when you took off a couple of days?
Some. I wound up making a run to an ER up there, turned out to be nothing major. Got some hard-to-follow medical advice while I was gone (need to reduce stress in my life--my life IS stress :)
Got to feeling better, slept and rested some the last day and a half I was there.. I still did some call-ins for work while I was off..a total of five stories, including two calls on one issue, so I technically didn;t get a full day I wasn't working some.
Had a long Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday, once I got back--got some good news Tuesday on a couple of awards.. little sleep this morning, as the DA here called me last evening just as I was about to lay down after having covered a special council meeting-went to the supposed plea hearing after about three hours of sleep this morning--only to wait there for an hour to hear official word they were continuing the hearing for 9 days.
Sorry for the spiel, thanks for asking, though!

Who's Rita?
What did you do interesting this summer?
No personal projects, but I was covering a national interest story on a child rapist and a plea bargain he made in the caze..there was subsequently a grand jury, which returned some new sex counts against the guy, not long before he was to be released from the previous case. Whether the new case will hold together or not is apparently a question, though.
John :waving:
OK, I'll answer.
The 'Rita' name was just one I slippe in with a number of others, to see if it would draw attention..which it did :) There actually is a Rita that is an Oriental waiitress, who is quite attractive, nice, and is single, that works at my favorite local Chinese place. I've never asked her out.
Resisted the temptation last week to ask out a lady locally that is an official with the city.
Last night at church, a single lady showed up that a mutual aquaintance of ours' has been trying to get us together. I thought of asking for her number, but, to be honest, I got what I thought was a little attitude from her about showing up to please her friend, and didn't ask.
John :waving:
Well..Hmph :smirk2:

Do you have any summer plans?
How is the "car" shopping going?
Sigh..well, I've been thinking of taking off a couple of weeks in August, going to Pennsic (huge SCA event,) but I'm not ectstaic at the thought of driving my truck up there (266,000-plus miles on it now,) and an airplane ticket and a car rental would make it a MUCH more expensive trip.

Do you have any summer plans?
Well, as you can read above, I indeed could use a new vehicle..however, in the serious mode, I'm liking not having a vehicle payment.
As to the joking with me about Lady Stacey, she's half my age, and likely has no interest in a much older guy, anyway. Locally, I found out the singles night at family camp meeting is now for 24 and under..which leaves me out by 21 years.

It's been several years since I got out and did a lot of visiting at other churches, so have little knowledge if some of those I knew that were single still are.. after Sunday activiites including teaching and/or preaching plus other stuff, I often don't feel like driving 30-100 miles each way to visit for an evening service.
And, if I did/when I do, I'm not exactly a 'young man' out visiting, anymore.

How is the "car" shopping going?

I just wonder... if we all (I included) prefer the company of people older than we, what do the people older than we do?
Well Newsman... what do you do in regards to this? :hypocrite:
In some of the settings I find myself in. I'm STILL one iof the youngest! :)

I actually thought about you this week, John. One of my coworkers is a Civil War re-enactor and was telling me about the activities. He then made the statement that he had several friends that were into the MiddleAges re-enactments, with armor, swords, and such. I immediatly thought of you. I never knew that there was actually a "community" of people doing that!
Many, many people in those communities. They go all out some of them, right down to women fixing food the way they did back then.
Wonder if cell phones are allowed at those things? :biglaugh:

John and Nai should be able to tell you, they both are/were into that.
What do you say, John?
Visible/openly used cell phones would be bad form at an event, with one possible exception. In the organization Lady Nai and I have participated in, each major regional (multi-state) group has what is called "Crown" tournament: the winner actually, within the contexts and constraints of our rules, 'reigns' for an upcoming period. It can only be won by heavy weapons combat, and is hugely covetted by many.
On the days where Crown Tournies are held, I think it would be muchn more common ro see cell phones being used to relay who is doing well/winning/won the tournament, to those not able to attend.
In my area, OK and nearly all of TX form one 'kingdom', so there are a lot of people who are active that can't make it to say, Corpus Christi on a specific day, and someone is relaying it to them.
I was at a fighter practice once where a member of the public pointed out the cell phone(s) in evidence weren't period :)
I should also point out that there is a LOT of medieval reenactment not involving heavy armor, or even fighting at all. The arts and sciencs of the time, bardic (storytelling and medievalish singing), and a variety of other activities done in the middle ages are reenacted.
I had on occasion thought of irganiziung a GP meetup near and in the timeframe of an SCA event, and have the attendees that wanted to make the event as my guests during the meetup.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to.
Can you get cornered in a round room?

Is this what you look like with your Armour on?
Seriously though how you been doing lately brother?
Well, I think the helm needs to be a bit larger, in perspective! :)
Thanks for asking. Unusually busy, even for me, but with the main job so wasn't making much extra money. Starting to write a little more now, and thankful to God for the business.
Burned the back of my hand with a fairly sizeable second degree burn, and then it got infected. It's doing better, now.

Sounds like we should send you a nurse.... :freaky2: Oh, Chel.....!
Dear John,
If I have to come up there and talk to you, you aren't gonna like what I have to say... (just ask my dad when he was in the same situation)
so, take care of yourself and get better. You hear?!

Oo, I get a 'Dear John' letter and a warning about something I won't like, from a beautiful Lady..do my friends know I thrive on abuse and rejection, or what? :)
Thanks for the concern, Fair Lady..to be honest, I'm having ine of those odd phases in life that make you wonder about many things.

John: If a man was working at a tractor supply store and his girlfriend broke up with him, would she write him a John Deere letter?
Only if it was one of thiose nasty Farmall dealerships! :thumbsup2:
