Title: Ask someone normal.. makes more sense
Post by: Legendary_roxy_girL on November 12, 2007, 07:13:42 AM
This will never get as many replies as I would hope, since I am new.

But a few of the other "posters" and I have established that I AM indeed Normal, and if they tell you otherwise, don't listen to them. They are just caught up in the whole GP world, it's clouds their minds.

Anywho.. I see all these Ask "so and so" this , and that. Why not ask someone normal!? I think you will find my knowledge surprising! And nooo I don't get my info form Wikipedia, like the rest of them! haha. My knowledge comes from many years--19-almost 20, to be exact--of experience in the real world. Oh and guess what, this is a spelling free zone, ceeing as I done't now howe too spel corecctly, letsa gust keeep it semple--okay that took forever to typ out so you better appreciate it ;) anyway...

ask away

Hmm,

Just friendly discussion here, and personal opinion, but I think art has no 'life' as in meaning, other than what people give it.

Ahh, Lady Roxy!

Dost thou wound me with the preseumption my philosophy and appreciation of art is limited to a Wikpedia-inspired view? Although, truth be knowm, I am both old and old school enough that it would be old hard-copy dictionary and encyclopedia if that were the case!

Although by both personality and education, I am more of a hard and fast facts kind of person than an artist, I do have a few touches of the arts and appreciation for it in my composition.

Art is something that is undefined. It's is anything the person feels it is.

so if I say art is tearing a piece of paper a certain way. Then Waa la! it is.. (http://e.deviantart.com/emoticons/g/giggle.gif)

depends on what you are hungry for.
Grilled Steak Burrito is my number 1
nacho cheese chalupas are fantastic, but small so order about 3.
Crunch Wraps I hear are tasty.
And if you are simple. Get a soft taco and a hard taco, with mild sauce on the side. :)

About this normal thing, I never really wanted to be normal, so what advice do you have for me?
About art, I am an artist only in the sense that I see music as an art, not a science; however, most contemporary attempts at musical expression leave me underwhelmed.
If someone is a serious musician, then I see the musical life as an inseparable part of the whole life; as a pianist, playing the piano is not just something that I do, it's an extension, or a part of what I am.  Would you accept that statement as valid, or does that fall outside the realm of normal?

Thai can be quite spicy, if I recall correctly and Indian (as in the sub-continent,) can have food that's spicy, as well.

Certain things may not appear as you think they do to everyone. Simple remarks such as "aren't spicy foods for hispanics?" can be seen as racist in some way or another.

As I said, certain ones are ultra sensitive to remarks like that. Once again, no biggie.

*shrugs* imho racism is a negative thing. I'm guess I'm just not understanding how "aren't spicy foods for hispanics?" has any negative connotations. Now, I will agree wholeheartedly that it's a generalization. lol Anyways, like you said, no biggie. :teeth:

Maybe racism isn't the correct word to use then. It just erks me when people assume things about other cultures. It's like saying "aren't blacks supposed to like chicken?"
Title: Re: Ask someone normal.. makes more sense
Post by: Melody on November 13, 2007, 07:46:18 PM
there are generalities otherwise there would be no such thing as culture in the first place.  Certain things are more likely to be present in specific genre's.  While it's not a rule, it's not racist to make a general benign statement (meaning it doesn't degrade that culture) that is quite possible because of the consistant culture present.  Hispanics do in fact have a lot of spicy recipes.  A lot of them eat them regularly and from the time they are very little.  Making them not only used to the flavors but like them.  That's not racist, and it doesn't automatically assume that there are not other cultures as well that have similiar practices.  But it loses it's point if we get into a conversation about EVERY culture that enjoys spicy food when the party that is communicating back is Hispanic.

Does that make sense?  Before offense comes, we have to try and look from it abstractly, otherwise we may simply be choosing to be offended because of some other reason in our lives/day.

1. I understand the point that it was just a statement made to be funny and not offensive. That's not what I said. I made the comment that I was somewhat offended by the generality of the statement.

2. I don't have anything else to say. No point of view is ever accepted without complete rebuttal here. I take offense to a lot of things. It's not because of something that has happened in my life or day. It's just the way I think and believe about certain things. *shrug*

But as Christians we should not be so easily offended if ever.  Something may hurt for a moment, but our confidence in who we are in Him keeps it moving right past us as we keep focused on HIM and not us or those around us.
Title: Re: Ask someone normal.. makes more sense
Post by: Elfin on November 13, 2007, 08:13:13 PM
What about Christians who always seem to find themselves being easily offended?  There are some people - and I'm sure we all know them - who are always getting offended by something someone says or does...and it can be multiple people...yet they never look at themselves to wonder if they are behaving and reacting inappropriately...instead of assuming the dozen people they have a grudge against are all in the wrong.

It's really hard to reach out to people like that when there's constant fear of stepping on their toes, even from their own friends.  It is very said, b/c people who are easily offended end up pushing everyone away from themselves eventually and are left with no one, because everyone has been aliented from them due to those offenses that come easily.
Title: Re: Ask someone normal.. makes more sense
Post by: kkay on November 13, 2007, 08:15:02 PM
Honestly, it wasn't that big of a deal to me. I know I probably shouldn't be so easily offended. I was just explaining why that comment offended me.

Y'all can discuss this further if you'd like, but I'm not going to.

And just to let you all know, I don't push people away and I welcome every opinion. I didn't say anything in anger.

Please don't misunderstand me.

Girl, I ~so~ wasn't referring to you specifically in that last post.  I was just talking in general b/c this is something that's been on my mind a lot lately. ;)

Sometimes it's good to let out our opinions and discuss when we think others have crossed a line...doesn't mean everyone sees things the same way as us, but it's worth discussing.  But just got to love people after the disagreement and move on.  Not hold grudges.  I think I was talking more about the types of people that hole a grudge due to their many offenses.
