I've checked in but there was nothing new and I have nothing interesting to share.

Backseat Radio

I'm sitting in the church parking lot borrowing the wifi to check in.  We had revival services Sunday, Monday, and tonight with Bro. Jonathan Atkins. Our pastor decided revival was a good excuse to start another remodel on the media room.  He and another brother took out the window that used to be between the media room and the auditorium so we're not having to watch through a darkened glass that was put there originally so moms with infants could tend the infant without watching eyes.

You mean for your sake. Nothing to do with old time. You love that...
Good to see a mini (as in small, not as in Sasquatch) revival! LOL.
Accomplished some things this weekend. Water heater installed in Chey's apartment, minisplit a/c installed in the apartment, and had the brother in law come pull a vacuum on it. It'll freeze you out. Got several things yet to do at the house- owning a home means work is never done. But it's slowly coming around...

I've always heard that will happen as we get older, and it sure has.

After a week and a half of "retirement," I have to say this is for the birds. I'm still young enough that retirement is boring. I hope dad gets his other fake foot soon and gets his feet back under him, literally and figuratively, so I can get back to the job.

Fortunately from what I have observed from people around me, by the time I get old enough to really retire I will probably actually look forward to it.

The only other real news from my corner is that I got some fake dragonflies to hang up around the outside of the house. I am hoping that will deter all the red wasps. Google claims they really work. We shall see.

Wow, Isaac, maybe I need some dragonflies.

Back over a week now from the week I spent in Arkansas with my little squish. Miss him and his parents already. Survived the week at work after a week off. It's been BUSY every single day. Jeremy left this morning on a motorcycle trip out west with some friends. They're going to Sturgis. It should be interesting. Then he's going to be staying up in WI for the recertification training for Athena. So in all he'll be gone 2.5 weeks or so. It's weird not having Athena around when he's out of town tho. LOL. She's going to hang out at her trainers' house/kennels while he's on his motorcycle trip.

I'm envious. 30 years of riding bikes and I still haven't made that trip. Didn;t realize your husband had a bike. I bought a Sportster last year that was too good to pass up,  my fourth, ride it locally, and am honestly kinda wanting to buy a larger road bike. Held off doing so because deep down I want another Corvette more. LOL

He actually doesn't own one now. He had one when we first got married.. I think it was a Honda Shadow or something like that. He sold it though because he needed something else to drive to work. He's got some really good friends (or maybe they're not so smart? LOL) and he's letting him borrow his Harley. His friend is also on the trip of course. They even added him to THEIR insurance. I'm always a bundle of nerves with those kinds of things because I know that wouldn't be cheap to fix if something happens haha. I know he's living the dream this week tho, so I'm trying to stay positive hahaha.

I'm HOPING to get a lot of work done on the house while they're gone. Less people/pets walking around getting into things so I can just work through all my junk hahaha.

You're a biker dude? With all your talk about sports cars and old cars, I never would have guessed.

My uncle Fred likes motorcycles too, but he hasn't ridden his in years and years. But with all he knows about engines, he could still get it running if he had time.

Brother, I've owned nearly as many bikes as I have cars, was a member of an actual motorcycle club (Blue Knights MC) complete with leather, patches, and at that time in life enough scruff to look disreputable. From 18 to 27 years old, before Lou and I became serious, I rode motorcycles cross country- like to Maine, down the coast to Florida and back home, to Iowa, All over Louisiana, Oklahoma, parts of Texas, Tennessee. You name it I've been there. If you knew me those years you knew a lost kid running from God and I did alot of it on two wheels, like 90% the time. I quit riding and sold my three bikes at the time- one Harley- when Chey was born. Last year I found a deal on a little Sportster and bought it for old times' sake.
I don't currently ride distance anymore, but someday I might try it again.
This week was the week I dreaded. Today, I turned half a century. While that was distressing, my church came together and organized a birthday bash  Saturday that was epic. As much as I hate the spotlight, I was honored and flattered. Mini and Kim came over; my friend Bro Weatherford and his wife came over from Wildersville, Tn; our district presbyter, a longstanding friend, came; I felt very loved. Then yesterday, I'd planned to have another friend preach for me, and God changed that. I wound up preaching with my friend stating he needed it; and since often when the anointing hits, I tend to preach with my eyes closed, I was amazed to open my eyes and see- Robbie and Chel had came in at some point and was sitting on the pew worshipping. And, they stayed around for dinner, stayed the night locally, and we've just came home from spending time with them. Mel would have labeled it EPIC. I think it meets that definition for me too.

Sounds like God managed to change your "POV" this weekend a few times. :) Happy Birthday!

Work's been crazy.. but I'm still managing to enjoy the peace and quiet at home. This is kinda how I wish the week at Arkansas had felt.. minus still having to go to work while Jeremy's on his trip, hahaha.

Lynx

I dunno... I preach with my eyes open, but I do sing with my eyes closed a lot. I'm concentrating on what I'm singing. I get a moderate amount of flak for that, but I care naught.

So this turned out to be awful. We got about 40 mins from home and we blew a tire... sigh. I'm SO thankful I made Adam go with me. He put the spare on, on the side of the highway mind you, then we trekked home. Thursday night, Adam remembered we added some sort of Tire and Wheel thing when we bought the car and so I called it Friday morning and we are covered thru 2027!! So we took it to the honda dealer here and they fixed it right up for FREE. Thank you LORD!!!!

Then Saturday night comes, we go to bed thinking all is well, and we wake up Sunday and the AC is out....AGAIN...the inside unit was running and blowing air, but the outside unit was dead as a doornail. Quiet as a mouse...

so I put a ticket in with the rental agency Sunday morning, they contact the warranty guy and an hour or so later the guy texts and he can't come out until Monday morning...so I contact rental agency again cus like it was 103!!!! They get the guy with the window units to bring 2 over. So we at least didn't sleep in 90 degrees.

AC warranty guy comes Monday, takes a look at it. It was some sort of switch on the outside unit that was blown. He said it was similiar to an on/off switch and it was an easy fix and we had AC by time he left.

Been a fun few days.  :frustrated:

Yuck MJJ. Glad you had that tire coverage!! Also so glad you are renting when the AC goes out LOL. I'm still not sure how we survived that one year with no a/c all summer. It was nowhere near as hot as this thankfully. Lots of fans I know.. thank God we survived haha.

Roscoe

Shew, Lord it is HOT. Like actual temps of 102 to 106, with humidity that makes it feel even hotter. Despite the need to, I do not see myself getting my outdoors chores done while it is this hot. Rode the Harley to breakfast Saturday- low 70s and cool at 630 am going over- coming back two hours later after talking with my friends was much less pleasant.

Yeah, I'm only making it outside until 8:00am or so. I've been beating up some wood until it gets too hot out there.

The church is renovating the sanctuary - new carpet, taking out a big chunk of the stage, swapping pews for individual seats. Some of those big chunks of stage have good plywood, if anybody cares to dig out the nails and take off the joists.

We also have 72 chairs, the kind they use in convention centers, that stack on each other. Turns out the bottom of the cushion is cheap cardboard that breaks.

So I carted home all the stage pieces I can use and started taking nails out. When I get done I'm gonna take all the plywood over to uncle Bren's table saw and cut it into 1 foot-2 inch squares. Then I'm gonna screw those into the bottom of some chairs.

Two more mornings banging away on the carport and I should have all the plywood cleaned up. And it's something to do.

Yeah, that joke never really landed...

I never cared one way or another about our seating in the sanctuary, but I have to admit... those chairs sure are comfy. Plus they can help keep me warmer than the wooden pew backs did!

Just a few more days until Jeremy & Athena are home for a week. Then they're headed back to WI for a week haha. I have to admit - I enjoy being home alone. It hasn't bothered me one ounce. I think it's because I know it's for a limited time I'm sure.

It's FINALLY cooler here in IL. Just 86° I believe today.. such a relief. lol

MsJennJenn

I remember when we swapped out the pews for the chairs. They were so nice. I remember another church who had those theater type seats, that fold down? Those were the worssssst for church in my opinion.

Not much to report. It's still hot.

Strangely enough, when we changed from pews to chairs, everyone loved them- and now I hear constantly "Can we buy some pews?"  Sheesh.
And in sharing- we had a storm come through yesterday that dumped around 2 inches of much needed rain. It also took my power with it, which action was NOT needed or desired. So, after being without power for 18 hours, and stressing about my three freezers full of meat, I took off to day, raided the savings account and went to Harbor Freight. I WANTED a small generator, but they were out so I wound up buying a 10k watt generator. Overkill much? :biglaugh:
Our electric company was forcasting late tonight or tomorrow for power to come back on. As I tightened the last nut on the wheel kit of my new generator, those turds showed up. An hour and a half after my generator went online, they got my power back on. Thanks. I kinda needed to KEEP that large chunk of cash. :pound:  :pound:  :pound:  Oh well, at least I have a generator that'll power half the neighborhood if power goes out again.  :smirk2:
And it wasn't TOO hot today, only 93. Almost a pleasant fall day. I cut the lawn and cleaned up some stuff..
