Autumn Eve

I love autumn. Not quite as much as I love winter, but I do love autumn.

Sharp morning shadows dividing light and dark with crisp lines.
Drops of golden promise dripping into crunchy piles beneath my feet as I walk under the trees.
Clean smelling air depleted, at last, of summer's humidity.

Autumn eves are the best, though.
Time to curl under the blanket and read a book.
Walking with a canopy of stars before it's too late to be out alone.
Windows open wide sharing the bounty of baking and cooking.

But only for a while.

Then it's necessary to close the windows and the door.
Unwittingly, we fall into the season of introspection.
One season becomes another.

Carefully consider the lessons learned by the summer sun
as the autumn eve causes the door to close before
winter blankets me, holding me closely to make me rest.

To everything, there is a season.
