the story behind my name....

My online handle Backseat Radio which I've shortened here lately to bsr came from bus ministry years ago.  Back when I was about 12-13 years old my dad was the assistant pastor at a church and also drove the church bus to pick up sunday school kids.  It was my job to keep record of who rode on the bus (names, addresses, ect) which mean I had to ride the bus.  My best friend, my 2 cousins, and sometimes my brother would all pile into the back of the bus and to amuse ourself we started going the sunday school action songs.  My dad dubbed us as the Backseat Radio and the name stuck ever since.

As for my real name... before my dad ever got in church and met my mom he was engaged to another lady.  Him and that lady had already planned out how many kids they would have and what  they would name their kids.  Well his fiance went to chicago for college and found a guy she liked better and broke off the relationship.  Then after my dad got in church and married my mom she liked the name him and his ex fiance had picked out to name their girl.  Thats the name I ended up with. They found out after they named me that my name means heavenly reborn or heavenly born again.

favorite soft drink would have to be A&W root beer or Dr. Pepper

If I could do it with out ending up messed up in other religions I'd love to major in religious studies as my favorite classes in college were the religion classes I took - religion and philosophy and intro to islam.

How long have you been playing piano?

Tricia Lea

and one other thing,

whats your favorite song to play on the piano?

Backseat Radio

Since 1987 - I started piano lessons the summer before I started 1st grade and had 12 years of classical training.  I've played piano for churches off and on since 12th grade.

my favorite song... classical wise I like do to the first page of the skaters waltz.  church music wise it depends on what song hits my fancy at the time.  Mostly I prefer to do the slower songs or the 3/4  or 6/8 timing songs (the ones you double clap too)

How old were you when you got your liscense, and your first car. What was your first car?

Backseat Radio

I was 16  1/2 aproximately when I got my drivers liscence.  I didn't actually want the liscence but mom and dad insisted that I was going to get it.  I'm glad now they did insist cause its been a great  help in keeping from going nuts since then cause I can get out and do what I want with out having to look up a ride.

My first car wasn't the one I took my drivers test in.  I took my drivers test in my parents Ford Station Wagon.  The lady that went with me for the test was shocked that I could menuver that size of car.  Looking back I should have taken that test in my parents International Travelall and really shocked the lady.   :P

The first car that was pretty much mine to drive (even though my parents owned it) was a white 1980 dodge diplomat.  The thing had an automatic transmission, a manual choke, and a toggle switch (hopefully I don't need to explain that one).  it was notorious for dying if you didn't let it warm up long enough which meant I learned to left foot break.  It was unfortunately in bad enough shape that it won worst car the year I drove it and the year my brother drove it as seniors in high school.

Dad wouldn't let me drive the dodge to college cause of how bad of shape it was in and bought me a 1993 Grand Am stick shift to replace it.  I spent the summer before college learning the art of driving a stick shift.  The one thing I remember and miss about that grand am is the bass on the stereo was good enough that it would make the image in the rearview mirror go double to the beat of the music.

The first car I bought myself it the one I currently drive.  Its a red 1995 Chevy Beretta with automatic transmission.

I haven't had time to read this whole thread, so if this is a repeat question, I apologize.

Did I read somewhere that you have a bad back?  If so, how did you hurt it?

yes I have a bad back.  I broke the L1 vertebrae in a car accident on July 25, 2003 and had surgery to try to repair things the following day.  Those that have been around this board for a while have already heard about that accident but since you haven't I'll give a quick run down.

Naomi (chinadoll) and I had gone down to Memphis, TN for a childrens minister's conference and on the last day decided we'd do a bit of sight seeing into Arkansas before we went home.  On the way back into Tennessee my car hit a bad patch of pavement on I-55 south, was thrown air borne and hit the concerete interstate divider at about 70 mph since the road itself went around a curve.   The front drivers side corner hit first and then the car was spun around in a full 360 against the wall before it came to rest again on the road.

If you want a bit of an idea of what Nai and I went through watch this crash test done by TopGear
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROO7DBW3R0I

I can post pictures of it if you want me to

Backseat Radio

Oh ya....
As far as the condition of my back now...  L1 is pasted back together and rods now incase that area of my spine for a length of 5 vertebrae (2 below and 2 above L1).  I've actually got quite a bit of mobility to the place I doubt those that saw me at music fest would have been able to tell I've got a bad back if they didnt know about my car accident.  (you might ask them about that) The only problems I have from it is mild ache in my lower back, a lifting limitation of 20lbs, and occasional pains down my left hip especially when I sneeze.

Even though you didn't ask about it I'd probably better tell the side of that story that my parents normally tell on me... the hospital bill.

When we had that crash I did not have medical insurance except for $10,000 on my car insurance policy.  The bill from the week I spent in the Mempis Med Center came up to over $104,000.  The day after I was released from the hospital someone walked in and payed the entire bill and left an extra $1,900 in case I had anymore bills.  To this day we do not know who it was.  All we know is we have a copy of the bill saying it was paid.  The bill wrote the payment down as "community charity" but I didn't fill out any community charity paperwork because of how quickly I was processed thru the hospital.   The $10,000 on my car insurance took care of the misc medical bills when I got back to Indiana and the bill from the ER in memphis.

That he sure is.  I should be dead or wheelchair bound and in debt the rest of my life from that accident but God obviously had other ideas.  I do wonder sometimes what God had in mind for the future when he spared me in that accident.
