It is the first of January, 2013 and yes we made it this far! :freaky2:
We did not do a Poster of the Year this year. I think with the downward trend is posters, it became a moot point. Pretty much any one left seems to be a former Poster of the Year!
Godplace.com has been around since 2001 or 2002 if memory serves me correct, which means 11 years of forum posting madness. The look has changed but here we are.
Many of use migrated from www.upci.com and later www.upci.ws after a major hack attack took us down. The attack was not only against www.upci.ws but the same server used by the UPCI who allowed us some bandwidth to run the (Volcano) chat room and discussion board. I ran the UPCI board from around 1997 onward and later took over Godplace after the migration.
Over the years we've had hundreds of people in and out of the board, some good, some bad and some.. well we just were not sure. :sadbounce:
There have been good times :biglaugh: and bad times , happy :thumbsup2: and sad :(, funny :teeth: and really strange :o.
In 2003 (if memory serves correctly) we managed to stop a suicide and working with two different ISP's and local law enforcement managed to get police to the person in time to save his/her life and get him/her the care he/she needed.
I've received odd emails and PM's over the years, from people confessing criminal acts, needing to talk about the abuse in their life to (yes) Porn (from a female poster).
I've even had the opportunity to teach bible studies via email and PM to posters who had bible questions and in at least one situation was able to connect that person to a church and kept in contact with their minister.
More than once I had to share with the board news about the death of a poster and more than once that poster was someone I met or knew in real life.
We've had marriages and divorces, dating and break ups. We've had bickering, petty finger point, snipping and sniping. Heart attacks, strokes, surgeries, pain, discomfort and problems upon problems.
Oh it has been an interesting, odd and unusual ride.
We once had a person discuss on one of the board incarnations, their plans to split their church. They forgot that they were posting openly and their pastor along with members of his family found the discussion.
I've had days in which all I could do was respond to emails and PM's about problems and this person or that person and we've had more than our share of trolls and troublemakers.
Back in the UPCI.WS days, we had to delete posts 3 to 4 days per week to keep it from freezing (because of bandwidth issues) and one of the mods accidentally deleted all the posts. For the next week we had thread after thread discussing the great thread rapture and living in a post thread rapture world.
Weird.. for nearly 15 years - I've been the administrator of this board in one incarnation or the other.
Can you imagine? Almost 15 years of dealing with Seth? :o :frustrated: :cry2: :laughhard:
[cont'd]
I cannot count the number of moderators and a few administrators who have come and gone over these years. Some left happy and more than a few left screaming into the night never to be heard from again.
This has been an emotional place and quite often emotions have run close to the surface many times bubbling over all over the board.
Once we had this really cool young lady from England who posted on the board. She was Jewish and some how found us. She was generous and actually a sweet kid (she'd hate that phrase). She used to call me before going to school in the morning.. Mind you... her 7 am was my 1 am. :laughhard:
She and my son played chess at Yahoo.games.com and we used to send little trinkets back and forth. I still have a Cricket ball Coaster that she sent me in 1999.
I have a book somewhere that Nicole sent me from Australia and I wonder if she still has the Teddy Bear I sent her (A Target Store Teddy Bear if I remember).
I've met many posters in person and became friends with them in real life. I've talked to a few on the phone and via email and yes that faceplacebooktwit thing that everyone uses.
I don't hate anyone, I dislike having to step in and enforce rules - I'd rather just have fun, post jokes, discuss a topic and enjoy life.

I do have a question for everyone out there in Godplace land..
Have we come to a point where we need to just close up and go on with life?
Seriously!
At the most, we have one or two threads running and some days just the sharing thread. If that is all we are going to do, I can set up a Yahoo Groups page and you can have the sharing thread via email.
I look forward to your comments.. Keep it open? Close it up?
Thanks
Scott
Admin.

How much does it cost to host this thing?

Yeah that. I don't think a yahoo group would be near as comfortable for me. I tend to resist change....alot. And this place has became my outlet. I would to some degree be lost without it...I check it multiple times a day. I've made friends here that are some of the best in my life. Please don't shut it down...

That is not even an issue.
Yeah, and it was pretty cool finding out that you pastored here in this city and we'de talk about Sis Viola. Did you know Bro. Rapaich or Sis McNeely or Sis Wendalyn (sp) at all? Just curious.
It would be pretty sad to see this place go. I vote keep it. :thumbsup2:
I would be bummed if GP was no more. Yet another of my beloved forums to die. [RIP AYN]. Thankfully I'm at least connected to most from here via Facebook. It's up to the powers that be [not me] to decide.
I would really miss this place.
I met my hubby here. I would be really sad if GP was no more.
:beret:
I met my hubby here as well.
*cough*
I vote to keep it.

Sis.. it has been so many years since I was down there. I spoke to Sis Viola not too long before she died. I was in the basement having cake and coffee with the new pastor and talked with Sis Viola for a a while.
I was actually 65 miles south of your church when I was in that area. Your church was kinda sort of a home base.

Retard
There are some threads besides sharing thread I would miss.
If this place is shut down, catch me at jroi chatroom. Google "ac20plus" and you'll find it. I'm Lynx.
Keep GP alive!
I'll never get to be poster of the year if we close down shop now!!
Plus on further thought I've gone through my wedding, marriage, and divorce on here. And I can honestly say if not for GP [and the people on it] I possibly may have never gotten back into church
I think Heather should get poster of the year. Lol even if we don't have "officially" have it anymore.
I say keep GP... Especially if cost is not an issue. It is a "safe place"
I know I don't even post but sometimes I lurk. Not often enough...
Don't close it :nono: I'd be :sadbounce:
Roxanne I wish you would post more
Where would I ever announce that I am pregnant if we close godplace? Facebook? Yeah right.
(for those of you wondering, I AM a male)
Heather,
I am gonna try to post more. :) Great to hear that you are back in church. Miss talking to you!

Nothing added to the quote!

I think GP could be thinned out a bit threadwise. We definitely don't use it all.
If it weren't for GP I probably would never have connected with my spouse and many of the people I consider my best friends. GP has been a major part of many posters lives. I will forever be grateful for the different incarnations of this forum. I am grateful it was here in a time of my life I really really REALLY needed a place like GP where I could come here and be real and let the pain I was in show.
My beautiful wife and I reconnected through this forum. It was at a meetup of GP friends where we got to meet for the first time. It was actually thanks to GP friends that we got to meet at that point. You could in many ways say if it wasn't for GP friends we possibly would still be chatting on YM and talking on the phone at night.
Thanks to GP I have met some great men of GOD who have become my friends and have ministered to me in times I needed it. I might get an out of the blue text from Mini with insight about a scripture at the most random moment but always when I needed it. Roscoe has become a real brother to me and been a blessing in ways I can't even explain here. I would have never crossed their path if it wasn't for GP.
Ruby, Chel, Melody, and others I met through these three have been a blessing in my life. They may not know it but they have ministered to me at times through post on here or through FB post. I may not let them know it enough but they have been a blessing in my life. Three more people I would not know without GP.
Thomas was one of the greatest people I ever had the privilege to know. I could say so much about how he impacted my life in the very short time I was allowed to know him. I thank God for the short time we were able to be friends on this earth and look forward to seeing him again some day. Again, without GP this friendship wouldn't exist.
I could keep typing and list the ways others like Sis, Seth, John, MY, Isaac and others have also influenced me in great meaningful ways. My point is this though as long as people like this come around and post even if it is in one thread GP needs to be here. I wouldn't want to take it down and risk someone who needs people like this not having the chance to discover them.
That is all!
That is all... as long as we don't forget the power cord this time.
Well said Taco. Well said. Everyone here has at some point uplifted me when I needed it most. Some with words of wisdom, some with gifts, some with just being the comedian that I needed at the moment. Thankful for all of ya....and the ones that used to post here as well. I read old threads occasionally and find pearls of wisdom throughout the silliness..

No comment. Maybe you don't need 20+ forum subdivisions though.
I don't post much but I check in sometimes to see what's happening. This is one of the more civil boards. People on another board I visit or less than polite fairly often.
I have been through all three: upci.com, upci.ws, and godplace.com. You must admit, though, if it wasn't for this some of you, well, most of you, would never get to know who I am. :-) Hee hee.
I vote to keep it. I know I don't post much, but I do read.
This place has been helpful to me in the past with serious Bible questions and with computer issues. I woudl miss that.
Just my two cents.
I still lurk here once in a blue moon and I vote keep it.
:hi:
*HUGS TL SUPERTIGHT!!!!!*
:hi:
:great: so far so good with coming here more often. Are you guys shocked?
Shocked and very excited
Hugs Heather back supertight. :)
:hi:
I just noticed a major mistake in my post:
QuotePeople on another board I visit or less than polite fairly often.
People on another board ARE less . . .
I recently noticed a school teacher on another place mis-using "there." You would think a school teacher should know about the word "their" and not use "there" in its place.

Most common mis use of a word.
Maybe their not using there words right over they're.
I know that I don't come in here as often as I used to... But I am like others I still come in a lurk every now and then...
Please DO NOT CLOSE this site.... to me this is a safe place... IF we need prayer, we know that we can come in here and request prayer and that there will be people praying for us..
I need to come in here more often...

:addnothing:
I don't pop in enough to lurk well, let alone post well enough to have a valid opinion. :smirk2:
A sad state of affairs... but one that could be rectified with only a mere modicum of effort on your part.
Found this thread by accident. I would definately miss Godplace if it just up and disappeared. So few decent places anymore to really meet and interact with people that aren't already part of your family or offline life.
I do like the re organize that was done on the board in the year I was away. Looks lot less messy now.
Okay... so I'm REALLY late joining this discussion, and I'm glad GP is still here so I can join in.
I see my beloved husband has eloquently voiced a lot of how I feel about this place.
Thank you, Scott/GP for being a safe place where we can have fun and meet (fairly sane) people. lol
