Title: Pick on Chel thread #2
Post by: Lynx on July 12, 2011, 05:10:12 AM
As you will.  I do have a promise to keep you know.  I promised I'd keep this one alive.  ;)

But... scurry?  A lynx doesn't scurry, he strides.  A lynx makes rodents scurry.

Due to the recent and completely unwarranted deluge of new threads attacking a certain officer, I am going to have to post something in this thread sooner than I expected to keep it in the public eye.  So this is the post.

I've heard someone look at a pro photographer's photos and comment that he has some good cameras.  That seems like a good cook being told he must have a great set of pots and pans.   :biglaugh:

Pick on Chel because... hmmm...

Because I STILL haven't gotten my cheesecake!

I'm making sourdough bread tomorrow.  I'll trade you a batch of cinnamon rolls for a cheesecake.

In the spirit of picking on Chel...

How would I come and get it?  There's a good three in four chance you'll be out of the state at any given time.  You travel more than my Grandma.  I'd need a teleporter just to catch up with wherever you are at the time.   :warp:

Generally no, but I guess that depends on who it is doing the surprising. There are not many people who know me well enough to know what I would like as a surprise.  Whenever I hear about a surprise... my first gut reaction is dread... And then I get over it.

Whoa, whoa, hold it, this is a pick on YOU thread!  Start a new thread if you want to pick on me.  :P

In all seriousness, the logistics of shipping them would be tight.  They'd be all old-tasting by the time they got there.

Is it possible to ship stuff frozen?  Who would ship it and how do they keep it frozen?  I'm guessing ice packs wouldn't cut it in regular USPS mail.

Oh, and another thing - you come home this weekend, but who's to say you'll still be there Monday?  With your track record you could be gone again, and they would be left sitting wherever your mom stuck them who-knows-how-long until you returned again.  :P

Speaking of your mom... does she know about the last batch?  I sent a good 15 or 16 home with you and your poor parents never got so much as a sniff! :nono:

For the record, this "Pick on Chel" thread does indeed come in handy...

Now back to the picking:  Let the record show that Chel has not yet answered the last two allegations.  As she has had more than enough time to respond by now, the lack of response implies no defense is available.

And why is it with all your traveling you have never, ever been at our TN Youth Retreat?  It's a blast!

Let the record show that Chel has let days go by without answering the allegations posed in the previous two posts.
Title: Re: Pick on Chel thread #2
Post by: sunlight on November 03, 2011, 06:52:49 AM
 then post something worth responding to. Post something that makes me want to respond, reply, etc.
You are stating the obvious when asking if I am looking forward to my next trip, or asking a question I have no answer to, as to why I have not been one place, over another.
Title: Re: Pick on Chel thread #2
Post by: Lynx on November 03, 2011, 03:28:02 PM
I didn't ask if you were looking forward to your next trip (and aye, that would be the epitome of a rhetorical question.)  I asked if you were counting the days, or if you were down to counting the minutes yet.

Inquiring minds would like to see this list.  Mostly to know if trips to the general vicinities of said inquiring minds are on the list.  "Is Chel coming this way soon?" is the single most asked question on this forum.  In fact the question is almost the most often reposted post in the whole forum, coming in second to "I win!" in the last-post-wins thread.

*does a happy dance!!*

How odd that 2 GPer's are getting married 20 minutes from another GP'ers house? I just went past the church they are getting hitched at this past Tuesday. Lol

Umm...  I can't even remember my own age... I have no idea. It's been a while. In Haiti, I used it a bit because sometimes they could understand a bit more Spanish than English, and I could find at least a few key words to get my point across.

I've heard it all my life - "Popularity is such a burden."  I wouldn't personally know, but I've always wondered.  So since we have already conclusively proven earlier in this thread that Chel is officially popular... Chel, is popularity really as much of a burden as they say?

Careful, don't make me resubmit the evidence attesting to your popularity.  There is much material at hand in this forum alone.

I had two flying attack hugs this morning while I was still asleep! One was at 6:15 by an 8 year old blond headed green eyed girl, and then about 7:30, after I finally convinced her to go bug Mamaw, I had a 6 year old big brown eyed boy in my bed.

These kids don't believe in sleep! ;)

But somehow it made me think of you. ;)

Do you agree or disagree with the stereotype that women talk more than men?
Title: Re: Pick on Chel thread #2
Post by: sunlight on December 01, 2011, 07:45:35 PM
it depends on the guy. I sure know a lot of exceptions to this rule...
Title: Re: Pick on Chel thread #2
Post by: Lynx on December 01, 2011, 07:54:15 PM
Also (in my experience at least) depends on the age.  Dealing with kids and young people in general, girls 20 and younger seem to like to stay up until 4 or 5am and talk whenever they have the opportunity, while guys like sleep more than talking after about midnight or so.

After 20 everything is different of course.  Shoot, if you get me started talking about music I could talk your ears off (both of them) until the sun rises.

Oh wait, this is a pick on chel thread... Hmm...

Chel may not be a chatterbox herself but somehow when she's around everyone else talks more than usual.  I have no idea how she does that, but I've observed the effect multiple times with many different people.

I don't like that stereotype at all, just in case you wondered. It hit me when someone from church was posting about it as if it were true for everyone. :eyeroll:

Title: Re: Pick on Chel thread #2
Post by: sunlight on December 02, 2011, 04:19:58 AM
I know just as many gals that like to talk as I do guys. I know just as many gals that are quiet and reserved as I do guys. I can think of exeptions and examples of that stereotype very easily.

Title: Re: Pick on Chel thread #2

As Chel is occupied with a friend's wedding and will be too busy to look in here for a while (I hope, I hope, I hope) this is a grand time to pick on her.

A friend and I were discussing our friend Chel's popularity, how everyone all over the country keeps saying Chel should move over there, wherever their "there" is.  I said Chel either needs a teleporter for Christmas, or needs to be cloned.

The problem is, could the planet survive more than one Chel?  If two of them ever met, the hug might rip a hole in the fabric of the space-time continuum.  And think about all the gas they would burn driving around!  :o

But on the bright side, if two or three Chels could get together and work on an alternative energy source they might just finally get this world off petrol base.

That was the whole point, duh!  The game was to get you to show me, thus extending your time here.   :P

I'm glad you didn't take our stomach bug down there with you though.  Taking estimated incubation time into account, we probably got it from someone on Thursday or Friday.  I almost suspected you brought it down from east TN, but you didn't get sick.

Oh dear, I'm getting behind.  When Chel was here she mentioned that whenever Grandma goes to Texas the people on the forum hear a lot about it.  According to her I'm fine for two or three days, then I start complaining. Grandma has been gone since last Thursday, so I'm late, I'm late!

Man I wish Grandma would get back up here to TN where she belongs...

There, that's better.

And by the way, it's not my fault I asked you to show me how to make fried pies 20 minutes before you left.  You never mentioned you knew how to make them until right before you left.

I have so much ammo for this thread now.  The hard part is exercising restraint and not firing off all the rounds at once.

I wouldn't bet on that. She is a nurse she probably knows millions of ways to cause harm to someone. She just hasn't tried any yet....... Well as far as we know. lol

Had a creepy nurse in a hospital once start telling me how easy it would be for nurse to kill people. I didn't sleep at all that night. lol

Hmmm, good point.  I once heard of this healer who was in an army that was defending itself from an invading army.  He was asked what he, a healer, was doing in an army with a sword.  He responded, "You do not want to make a healer angry.  He knows how you are put together and how to take you apart.  I have seen many casualties from this war, and this healer is very angry."

Still, I stand by my original statement.  Practice makes perfect, and she has no practice.

Dude... total ghost town here.  Chel has not been seen lately on the forum, on Yahoo, on anywhere.  Speculation abounds.  Did she get kidnapped by one of her many, many fans?  Perhaps a group of her fans collaborated to kidnap her?  Is she on an internet fast, and only those who have been borged a Facebook account know of it?

Maybe we oughta get Newsman on the case.

Perhaps you should send her a hugely high-calorie example of your confectionary artistry to make her feel better, and she's been picked on because it is extremely highy-calorie with lots of unhealthy sugars and carbs!

Meeting you definitely wasn't torment. I wanted to stop on the way back through but thanks to Roscoe's road block and sitting dead still on i-40 in Rkansas for over an hour we came through way later than I expected to.

So we will just blame not getting to stop back by on Roscoe because the road block and road construction is all his fault! lol

It would only work if you took a more indirect route coming out or going back home. You will stay north of us if you take the most direct route. It will also add about 5 hours to your trip.

I know this is the pick on Chel thread.. so given how much she is not for being spotlighted, this is the perfect place to say this:

I was reading Romans 12 this morning and v.8 stood out to me and I immediately thought of you, Chel.  You completely personify the portion in bold.

Or he that exhorts, on exhortation: she that giveth, let her do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

And I thank you dear sis.  The sweet things you do show great love that you could only have by Jesus.  ♥   I'm thinking of you today.

I note this is the second pick on Chel thread.  To whomever started the first one going, thank you so much.   :thumbsup2:

I asked Chel if she had her driver's license on her.  She said yes, with such a puzzled look on her face that I wish I'd had a camera to capture it.  I said good, you'll probably need it... you've been gone so long your family has probably forgotten what you look like - you might need some I.D. to get in the door.

:pound: Chel for singing to herself for no apparent reason.  That's MY job!  I mean really, read my signature right here on this forum.  :P

Post by: Lynx on October 07, 2012, 09:02:56 PM
Oh yeah... since I warned Chel I'd be posting some things here, I can post this and be fairly sure she'll see it.

Chel I figured out what to do with that oxidized chocolate you were unhappy about.  Melt it into that chocolate pudding you were unhappy about.  Although Fred and Lucy had lunch with us and we used that pudding for dessert, and they said it was pretty good as-is.
Title: Re: Pick on Chel thread #2
Post by: Lynx on October 08, 2012, 02:00:14 AM
And another thing...   :pound: :pound: :pound: Chel for beating up on a friend of mine.

See, she brought me chocolate from (where was that?  Somewhere in the middle east?) but it had melted in transit and was now oxidized.  And when she was showing me how to make fried pies she whipped up a quick batch of chocolate pudding, but she didn't know the vanilla we have is much stronger than the stuff you get at the grocery store.  These two things she kept mentioning, as though it bugged the stuffins out of her that she did something that turned out less-than-perfect.  But she didn't say anything about the chocolate cheesecake that didn't turn out quite as well as it should have, or the fried pie I made that hemorrhaged, or...

Not only is that a double standard against yourself, m'lady, that is being grossly unfair to someone we happen to like a lot - you.  Stop beating up our friend!  :P

By the way, I found Chel's memory is excellent.  She remembered an incident from her first visit here, involving a stick of butter, and a separate incident involving a dirty spoon.  But she did not remember... why she came by here on that first visit.  (For the record, it was to pick up a desktop computer I no longer needed, to take to a church where she was eventually going.  Unfortunately, although Audacity recorded many records to CD while it was with me, when it got there it seemed to have trouble recording sermon audio in real time.  I hear she had a fellow nerd up there add some RAM to it.)

Thus I propose a new thread, a Chel Quiz thread.  Next time Chel visits anyone, the person waits two weeks or so, then posts questions to see how much Chel remembered.  Questions like "what was the exact phrase we used to describe dinner" are unfair unless it was something memorable.  Questions like "what color is my dog" or "what did we eat for supper your first night here" are fair game.

And for the record, you may now call Chel "Batty."  She has excellent hearing.  She mentioned the high-pitched noise a household appliance makes, a noise I have heard all my life but which nobody else seems to hear.  Whenever I mentioned this noise to anyone else, the person I was talking to would look at me as though I was crazy.  (Okay so I AM crazy, but the stupid thing still makes that noise!)  And lest you think Chel was just agreeing with me about the noise, 1-Chel doesn't lie, and 2-She mentioned it first.  Take that, everyone else who can't hear it.  I'm NOT crazy!  Or at least not about that noise.

Chel, by the good hearing vested in me I hereby dub thee Batty.

So Chel has (allegedly) been home for a while now, yet she doesn't post any more often than when she was on the road.

Possibilities:
1.  She is avoiding us.
2.  She is as popular locally as she is on the forum and is just too busy.
3.  She is too busy working and holding fund raisers to get money for the next trip.
4.  She was so exhausted from the last trip that she is STILL recovering.

Feel free to suggest more possible reasons for her lack of forum posts.

Well it's worth a shot, using that to pick on her.  It worked once totally by accident - we were talking on yahoo and I said that in jest, and she thought I was serious.  And if you took the trouble to copy/paste this or hit Quote to read it, you just learned something for which you will never have any use.  Oh well, maybe you'll forget about it so something more important can take up brain space.

I finally figured it out!  First time I saw Chel I thought she looked familiar, and I finally pinned down the reason.  There's a large Amish community nearby, and her face reminds me so much of them.

I don't mean the physical construction dictated by genetic structure.  I mean the permanent look on the face, embedded by wearing it so long.  Emotions come and go across the face, but the one that is there the most will stick.  Chel has a very amish expression.

And if you know Amish people, not just stereotypes from rumors and Weird Al's song, you'll know that's not a bad thing at all.

Title: Re: Pick on Chel thread #2
Post by: Lynx on December 13, 2012, 06:44:27 AM
Okay... you know how people's faces get set in a certain way, depending on their general attitude?  Cranky people have a cranky face, people who worry all the time have a pinched, worry-wart face, jolly people have a face with grin lines, etc.

I've met a good few Amish people, and they usually have a kind face, fairly open and honest, down-to-earth, peaceful, with something about the eyes that suggests competence.  Probably something about their chosen lifestyle that causes it.  Though you certainly don't have an Amish lifestyle, your face reminds me a lot of them.

Which reminds me... I need to pick up some farm eggs tomorrow.

In Japan the young people have a general rule that if you do not respond to a text message or an email or something within half an hour, the next day you are targeted for teasing and being picked on.

What brings this up? Well it just came to mind because Chel still hasn't answered her PM. Fortunately we're not teenagers in Japan. Unfortunately there is this pick on Chel thread which needs some activity.

It has been far too long since anyone picked on Chel.

It seems suspicious to me that Chel - who has, on this very forum, professed to hate surprises - should love to surprise others so much.  If she were a saint in the Catholic Church she would be Our Lady of Short Notice.  You never know she's coming until, at most, the day before she plans to arrive.  Also I remember one time she was expected here Sunday night, but drove all night (catching short road-side naps along the way) to get here about noon.  She looked insufferably smug when she got here, and very tired, but I think it was worth it to her because we were so surprised.

Also, for the record, she is a great collaborator when someone else is setting up a surprise...
