Title: Google+
Post by: mini on July 08, 2011, 09:28:32 PM
Anyone here on Google+ yet?  I got on today, and it looks to be very neat.  A real FB competitor with privacy as its core structure.

QuoteGoogle+ is in limited Field Trial
Right now, we're testing with a small number of people, but it won't be long before the Google+ project is ready for everyone. Leave us your email address and we'll make sure you're the first to know when we're ready to invite more people.

Already invited? We've temporarily exceeded our capacity. Please try again soon.

I got in but it seems more complicated to add and find friends. Not sure it will last unless they make some changes.

I hope games never come to Google+. I'm on it as well. Any game invites I get from someone on FB are instantly deleted and the the game apps themselves blocked from my account. All these third party apps/games are the main reason why people's FB's are getting hacked or information gathered and sold. They are built out of shoddy coding and only change their code when found out, but even by then the damage has already been done.

You have to look at exactly what this is. It's a Beta version of Google+, or as they call it, a Limited Field Trial. It's not going to have all the bells and whistles that you expect FB to have these days. You cannot expect a Beta trial of anything to immediately WOW you.

I read an article the other day where it described FB as becoming the defining infrastructure of the Internet. When you think about it, it's very true. The Internet itself is beginning to revolve around social networks and FB is leading the way with giving websites the ability to have "Like" buttons or allowing people to "Recommend" sites through being signed into FB.

Twitter has stepped up and become the pulse of the Internet. It went from a tiny start up company to literally driving the news during events overseas and even our elections here in the States. The President can state something today about the debt and in an instant it goes all throughout Twitter. You take those who have their Twitter accounts linked up to FB, and then it spreads through FB.

I really hope Google+ works for them. While I am not a fan of Google's policies all the time, I hope they can get themselves up there with FB and Twitter as a respectable social media institution.

Sorry for the rant and no offense against you Babs, but I really don't like it when people say they aren't impressed with something when it's very obvious that the application is still in a Beta stage and still very new.

Kyle
