Hypercolour t-shirts. slap-bands, Punky Brewster, and everything in neon. Farewell the 80s I don't miss you one bit...well...ok, maybe a few things

Ya know, I wasn't into popular music at that time, so I know next to nothing about 80s music.

Our neighbour had a pogo ball I think

I really don't remember many music video clips from the 80s or songs....i think I was too young to appreciate glam rock

I remember friendship bracelets....just like Scoobydos they came and went

pacman, the original Nintendo console - my neighbour owned one

does anyone else remember crystal coke?

I was born in '79 so I was an 80's kid essentially.  The only problem with remembering 80's things sometimes is that all the 70's shows and stuff were on as reruns..lol  So I remember a lot of those.

I remember the smurfs (cause I wasn't allowed to watch them...lol) She-ra, He-man, and the power of gray skull! lol

I had a Rainbow Brite doll and a strawberry shortcake friend who's breath smelled like some sweet desert.

Big bangs, top ponytails, plastic adornment of every kind.

Lip gloss for kids seemed to have become big in the 80's I think for.

folding over jean cuffs and rolling them, whatever it was called.

cut off sweatshirts, ugh! the worst look EVER. especially when added to those MC hammer pants.  those were so awful...lol

Mr.T and the whole WWF toy line, every boy seemed obsessed with them.

Feathered hair lasted into the 80's, waaay too long if you ask me...lol

hilarious!

I saw something last night that was out of the 90's (I know we are talking about the 80's)....remember when guys wore their braided leather belts and kinda let the end of it down and let it hang down about 8 inches on their leg?

Saw a kid last night who was desperately trying to look way cool doing the same thing with a cloth belt.  Made me want to laugh while slapping the fire outta him for looking so stupid.  LOL  Anyone knows you can only pull that off with a LEATHER belt!

You Know You Grew Up In The 80's If...

10. You had plastic streamers on your handle bars... and "spokey-dokes" or playing cards on your spokes for that incredible sound effect. They have used playing cards in spokes for years before that. I think that went back to the 40s, perhaps.

25. You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose fell off and his cheeks shifted. I remember what Michael Jackson looked like when he was part of the Jackson Five!

26. You had a collection of leg warmers.  Only one pair that I still have.

27. You took lunch boxes to school...  They had been taking lunch boxes to school since  Leave It To Beaver! LOL

35. After you saw Pee-Wee's Big Adventure you kept saying "I know you are, but what am I?" That saying was around before PeeWee was!

37. You remember going to the skating rink before there were inline skates. Rink skating was really popular in the 50s and 60s, too.

42. You remember Popples.  Bought my daughter some. We used to have fights with them.

The 80's....

The best music decade ever!  Creative use of synthesizers and electronic keyboards as well as the death of disco.  And it all happened before the HORRIBLE Hip/Hop 90's!  Honestly how many Maria Carey songs can you hum in the shower????

That story made me sad, and inspired all in the same moment, and although the sequels were good, not sure that they would measure up to the first.

Between that story and the Chronicles of Narnia, I was transformed into a book worm.

i graduated in 1984 and came into the church in 1986.

so i have an odd mix of 80 memories.  i won't post pics.  the only ones i have are BC and not very nice.  well.  maybe i'll see if i can find my graduation pic.  i think i may have posted it on facebook.

and the reason you don't remember many music videos from the 80s is because that's when they really started to groove on MTV.  first one i ever saw was for 99 Luft Balloons.  anyone remember that?  and not far behind was Michael Jackson and Thriller, Billie Jean.

anyone remember doing The Freak with Chic?

as for REO speedwagon . . oh my word!  do i ever remember that?  you can tuna piano, but you can't tuna fish.  :pwink:
other music . . . the Police, Sting, The CARS!!
Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult  (i taught my grandbabies to sing the chorus to that as we knock blocks down .  . .  hee hee . . . :pwink:)

coming into the church in the 80s had it's own subculture.  how edgy were you guys?  we listened to Carmen and Lanny Wolfe and STRYPER!!!

anyone remember 88 reasons why Jesus is returning in 1988?  that was quite the interesting event . .  .

I've been looking for a copy of the 88 reasons. I found one guy who thinks he still has it but he's not looking very fast. Do you know where I can get a copy?

Seems like a lot of the reasons were the same ones over again re-worded.

We had an elderly man in our church who believed that book was 100% true. When 1989 came around and we were all still waiting he got so embarrassed he stopped coming to church all together. I don't think he ever went back.  :sadbounce:

That's downright sad.  Wow.

Kris:  I checked some Stryper stuff out at the library sometimes and snuck it into my room once in awhile.  :hypocrite:

'Surprised no one has mentioned Huey Lewis and the News. 'Hip to be Square'? Maybe the last pop song since '86 with a positive message.

Thank you, you've not got 'it's hip to be square' in my head. lol

OMW LOL.   A time before the Internet *gasp*.

Carebears, I remember them lol Does anyone else remember the Ewoks cartoon series?

Cabbage patch kids

Our neighbour had a pogo ball I think

I really don't remember many music video clips from the 80s or songs....i think I was too young to appreciate glam rock

I rememver Swatch and strawberry shortcake...I think I or my sis had a strawberry shortcake figurine that smelled like vanilla

I remember friendship bracelets....just like Scoobydos they came and went

pacman, the original Nintendo console - my neighbour owned one

does anyone else remember crystal coke?

every 80s cartoon - Thundercats, Ewoks, Carebears, Fraggle Rock (not really a cartoon-but anyway) Captain Planet (even though that was probably more 90s) The Snorks, Inspector Gadget, Chip 'N' Dale Rescue Rangers, etc.

Wow... all of those plus Mr. Wizard, David the Gnome, Garfield and Friends, Heathcliff

Atari... 386 and 486 Computers, I have memory for my Camera on a phone than those computers had. Lol...

The old Box Apple Computers... Born in '83, so I dont remember much more than what ya'll have added, but a lot of '80's stuff hung on into the '90's
:biglaugh:

I had a commodore 128 computer  :biglaugh:

Carmen drove my dad INSANE.  He hated him...lol

One day, I was on yahoo christian music, and was horrified to see a band named "STRYPER."  I thought how in the world could they label them a "christian" band and call themselves Stryper (stripper)...then a few weeks later my pastor was preaching and said something about Stryper (stripe-er).  It was a major light bulb moment...LOL
