I was wondering if anybody had ever been on one of the Singles Breakaway trips? I'm to late for this year as I think they are actually on it right now, but I'm considering going next year (destination unknown currently) and wondered if anybody else had gone, or thought about going, or knew somebody who has gone? Thanks!!
It would be fun to go as a chaperon.
A good friend of mine has gone on two of their trips... and had a wonderful time on both trips. I wanted to go with her on the Breakaway 2009, but... it's not going to work. Oh well.
If you would like to ask my friend some questions, I'm sure she wouldn't mind. PM me your email if you'd like me to pass it along to her. :)
:beret:
Where did they go this year? Where is the trip next year going to be?
I think it was Greece? I can't remember!? :biglaugh: A good friend was going to go but she ended up having surgery! :-(
Greece? Really? Why didn't I know about this? Cuz I'm an old married lady?
Don't the have something for married couples too? If would only be fair, right?
I would still like to go with the singles and watch them to make sure they behave! (http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t201/VictoriaBC/Smileys/Smiley15.gif)
:laughhard:
*chuckle* Sis, if your posts on GP are any indication, you would helping them MISbehave. ;)
:beret:
Up to a point. I CAN instigate, but no sexual encounters allowed. Short sheeting beds, yes.
what are single breakaway trips?
uh oh, you say trip and someone's ears perk up...
/me grins really hugely
This year it involved a cruise, traveling to foreign lands, and meeting other people in the same situation that you are in.......that is, "SINGLE"....lol
THey haven't gone yet. THis year's cruise to Greece is next week. My friend Beth is going.

How about people like me who want to go to meet foreign lands?
where can i find out more information about it? :halo:
If you do a search for Singles Breakaway UPCI it'll show up. Thanks to everyone who replied, and those of you who said you knew people who went, or are going, have them send me an email, especially if they intend to go next year too. Gr8Grace@hotmail.com
For those who said married people should have a trip...you guys have each other to go on vacation with!! Us single people have a hard time getting vacation partners sometimes. I know I do!!

I didnt find much information when i Googled it really quickly, but i did find this... how cool is that!
I would seriously consider going on one of these...
Im def going to look again later! :hyper:

Don't think that marrieds should have their own. As a matter of fact, there ARE married's retreats which are totally boring. I want to go with the singles. They're more fun than old married people. I want to chaperon
I don't think these trips have chaperones haha nice try. Maybe you could start your own trips, then charge everyone enough so that you get to go free.
Ahhhhh! *Sis snaps fingers*
If anybody was wondering, next year is an Eastern Caribbean cruise. Details will be available at the end of the month...
:lurk:
*Sis waves* :hi: Hey Amy!
Hey, I have been searching for what the 2010 event is, however, I am not finding anything online. Does anyone have a web page or anything on this? Amy if you are still around, I would like to find out more, I am thinking I want to go in 2010.

I hope there are some others going, from what I have heard there are 116 registered so far, and I am one of those.

Well, duh!... since the ratio of men to women is highly in your favor, I should hope you WOULD have fun. *grin*
And besides, you get to meet Mary and Chel. That's worth going for in itself! :)
Okay, seriously... I hope all of you have a wonderful time, and come back with fabulous pictures for the rest of us to drool over. *smile*
:beret:
Yea, I will get to meet to GPers that do not live in California. Too bad it is not more, but I am sure it will be great.
And Yes, the ratio of men to women is not something I plan to complain about. :hypocrite:
:goodmod:
*laugh* Perfectly understandable.
:beret:
Okay, this is ridiculous. I wanted to go on one of the UPC singles' events for years, but didn't really want to go by myself. Now that I'm engaged (and it would seem slightly odd to go) I have a number of friends all going to the same event! Craziness.
Sooo... any of you GPers that meet Susan O. - tell her you know me. :bigcheese: And for those of you that know me REALLY well, she's Kim's aunt, if that helps put any pieces together. *lol*
:beret:
Is she single, Lady SippinTea? :biglaugh:
John :waving:
Yes. And you should meet her. :biglaugh:
:beret:
I counted about ten male names on the email that went out to all the attendees :o LOL its gonna be a total gal-fest
However, the ship has a crew of 1,150 and the total passenger capacity is 2,974... there has to be some potential there to balance things out... plenty of water, we can just have a crusade and revival onboard if need be ;)
What, I am not seeing the Downside to 10 guys and 100+ women. Sounds about right to me. :laughhard:
:great:
:hypocrite:
:thumbsup2:
LOL
What were those dates, again? :)
John :waving:
April 11 to 18 :biglaugh:

:beret:
woohoo! it's gonna be awesome!
(I'm glad I'm not going for the reason of coming home with a boyfriend! lol!)

Chel: don't worry, what happens on the cruise stays on the cruise - I'll adhere to the secrecy pact, don'tchu worry
You all are too funny.
It will be nice to meet the GPers,
Plus to go on another cruise, I am working on getting used to being back on Land right now, well sitting at the Long Beach Airport, waiting to fly home.
Wish I could go... just found out about it a month ago though... lol.
Of course I was thinking that with a ratio of 10-1 girls/guys... They should have like timeslots that the girls can sign up for the specific guy, or a guy sign-out... like a library book... oh, wait that is checking out... better stick with sign-outs... Lol...
All I gotta go is finish it in the Excel spreadsheet... and a girl could sign out a specific guy for a day if she were to give up a meal or two...
rofl You could make up buttons that say "check me out" and give everyone cards...
Speed dating might work, though. lol
Super thought... So like library cards then... or the guys could be like UNO colors, and the gals play to see who gets what color, and there could be a playoff... or they could play a monopoly game, and each piece represents a guy... and the winner gets first pick of who to hang with for a day.
Never done speed dating... interesting... lol
I'm pinkwinking in the worst sort of way (Kris should be hugely proud of me for carrying on her traditions *lol*)... but it's too funny not to tell.
Some of you probably remember that I worked at the local Christian bookstore for years... well, once upon a time, they decided to do a huge push with credit cards and the cashiers were supposed to ask every customer if they wanted to apply for the card, and one of the gimmicks they were supposed to use was a teddy bear that was free, just for applying. The gals at my store were having a hard time with that one, partially because they kept forgetting, and partially because they were anti-credit anyhow. (From the memos fed us from HQ, every Christian was supposed to be hugely in debt, I guess.) Anyhow, someone came up with a plan to post a little sign on the counter next to the free teddy bear that said "Ask how you can take me or one of my friends home today." Problem was, the sign the sign was NOT in a stationary holder, and kept getting bumped in front of the clerks. Sure enough, the customers started making wisecracks about taking the gals home with them. And then the gals started making hilarious jokes (when the customers weren't around *lol*) about leaving the sign where it was supposed to be for most of the customers, but moving it directly in front of them every time a good looking single guy was at their counter.
Okay, I'm finished pinkwinking.
For now. ;)

The choice was several Catholic ones a Luthern one, and stuff like that. That was the closest I could find. Would you rather have Catholic men to convert?

When is this supposed Godplace Meeting...?
The next GP meetup will happen whenever enough GP people get their act together and decide on a place that more than a handful of them can afford to go at the same time.
We had one meetup a couple years ago in Oklahoma. It was awesome. There's just something amazing about feeling like you really know a bunch of people long before you meet, and kind of even knowing how you'll interact... and then being right. :-) It was really great fun!
There was another one in Indiana a year or so before that. I doubt it was quite as awesome (namely cuz I wasn't there). :hypocrite: lol
I would happily coordinate another one here in OK if there were folks that would/could come.
John :waving:

Definitely not stargazing weather... but from what I hear, it is only fun with more than one person... LOL :biglaugh: And it is too cold to photograph star trails... :cry2:

Yeah, but explosions and real fire are definitely going to be fun...! Like setting off a model rocket with a small firecracker in the top of it... instead of a parachute, it just blows up... kinda like a firework... **yooper has an epiphany** ...

Cruise Passenger: Rogue Waves Were 'Terrifying'
Thursday , March 04, 2010
BARCELONA, Spain —
Freak waves that smashed into a Mediterranean cruise ship flooded people's cabins, broke windows in a restaurant and terrified many travelers in an ordeal that claimed two lives, a passenger said Thursday.
Claude Cremex, 73, of Marseille, France said he was in his cabin resting because of the rough seas when the walls of water hit the Cypriot-owned Louis Majesty, which was carrying 1,350 passengers and 580 crewmembers off the coast of northeastern Spain.
The company Louis Cruise Lines said the ship was struck Wednesday by three "abnormally high" waves up to 26 feet high that broke glass windshields in the forward section.
Two people died and six were slightly hurt, according to the Greek coast guard and Spanish officials.

Yikes. Maybe we were better to stay :offtopic:
That's scary, PF.
Thankfully, they're not going to Spain. Are they?
And what's up with telling the GIRLS to be careful, but not poor defenseless Jonathan?
;)
Oops, forgot he was going. Guess he's gonna have to take care of himself, too. ;)

Are we warning Jonathan to be careful cause of the waves or cause there are gonna be girls on board??
Tee hee. Considering the ratio of guys to gals... I think I'd be worried about him because of the gals than the waves. *grin*
:beret:
Maybe the gals will come at him in waves. ;)

So who all is ready to set sail in just about 10 days?????
:thumbsup2:
:hi:
ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just wish the 2 roommates Chel and I are staying with were ready... I want to print my funpass but its still marked as incomplete for them
I'm gonna do laundry this weekend so I'll be ready to pack next week
can't wait!
Any plans formed for Sunday before the cruise?
I will be down in the area on Sat evening before the cruise, but have no set plans so far. Definitely up for doing something.
Yea, my roommate is showing the same thing. That must be why I cannot print my fun pass. UGH... Not fun when some things are out of our control is it.
I've sent them reminders, Judy's sent reminders... we tried to coordinate a hotel room with them but they weren't very responsive so I'm getting the impression they are either flaky or the cruise isn't something they are focused on at all
:smirk2:
Oh well, maybe they won't show up and Chel and I will get the room to ourselves but still at half the price :hypocrite:
It would be nice if my roommate does not show, since then I would be in the same situation. LOL
Where you starting from?
Miami to bahamas to st thomas to puerto rico to grand turk back to miami
Miami is hot and muggy... and I just talked to the Rooster for the first time, and yes, I did tell him that he is no help to me so far.
Unless he gets some muffins, in which case he'd be mighty useful
Oh what fun it is to play with friends on a boat all day... :sings:
Are you the PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII rates who don't do anything?!?! :sing:
Yup. You met the rooster. lol Let the sarcasm begin to flow!
haha... that began at the beginning of the first phone convo...
Just had breakfast... now back at the hotel till about noonish when we go to the big ship. This is going to be awesome! :hyper:

Dude... What a trip. Not what i expected. Mary kept me awake all night the VERY FIRST night on the boat upchucking, my laptop screen got busted, my roomates were wierdos, on one of the last days the waves had 10 feet swells, (which is ironically the one time i got seasick), and some of the cruisers were so annoying! (no wonder the poor fellow was still single... i could write a dissertation on it for the dude... ) :halo:
But, I got to hang out with Mary after she got done with her lovely song about Ralph (and 48hr nap afterwards) And meeting the other cruizers who wernt so annoying was awesome, and Rooster was great! lol. I stick to my origional comment that the guys on GP are a totally different breed from the rest of the world. He even put up with being teased mercilessly about his couger friend. lol.
There were some things that made this trip an endurance, but the good stuff more than made up for it. I will be going on another one, but will be more prepared for it, and it will be later after a few more things happen. (and it wont be on a singles cruise) I think i would rather go on trips to places that arent moving next time.
P.S. Quotes to come as soon as I have the time and motivation... :freaky2: cause you know if Mary was there... there is tons to be quoted.
Just take care with those quotes Chel. LOL Remember I was nice. LOL
:eyebrow: That trip sounds... challenging.
What was the best thing?
What was the hardest thing?
:beret:
Chel is a saint, seriously. Lol I owe you a vacation after taking care of me so much
Hardest thing? Keeping food in me :-/
Met nice peoples though and enjoyed the beaches so I'm glad I went
Are there pics to follow, too?
And no, don't need anyy of Mary losing her lunch.

Hardest thing.... avoiding a certain shark..... or knowing I have to be back to work on Friday...... :o Avoiding that shark....
BOL... dun,dun,dun,dun.dun.... shark-bait! *couger-growl* poor rooster, don't you know sharks like roosters? haha! (sorry for not being all that good of a shield at times) haha!
the best thing? seeing new places, doing new things, meeting awesome new friends... discovering that i don't like going on trips that don't have a purpose. I was actually ready to come home before the trip was over... something that I don't think has ever happened before, not even in Guatemala.
the hardest thing? Not telling the annoying little twerps with 'god's gift to women' complex off... poor rooster. i ranted to him and Mary quite a bit. lol!

A Vacation just for the purpose of a vacation is always a nice thing.... but it takes a second cruise to truly appreciate the vacation.
Sorry, I am trying to get over that complex.... :freaky2: :laughhard:
Oh.
My.
Sounds like a great trip.

Yea I need some stronger armor.... some Shark proof armor. LOL JK Maybe some selective shark armor.

I'm totally teasing. I agree that Jonathan is, in fact, a nice guy... but there is NOT such a thing as "too nice" in the real world!!
And he gives great directions, too. lol But he's the kind of guy that'll give directions, even when you're using your GPS. :hypocrite:
:bigcheese:

You should have seen how many times we took the wrong road when he was USING a GPS... :halo:
Yea but Chel, she was coming to my town, not us trying to find something in a foreign state.
