Its always said if you are going to be able to stick to an exercise rutine, it needs to be somthing you enjoy doing. Are there particular exercises you enjoy or ones you hate?
As for me I love to walk. Ages ago I used to go to aerobics. and liked it. I am thinking about getting some aerobics videos and trying to get into that at home?
I never could do a push up lol
One thing I learned is you shouldn't stick to the same routine all the time. Your body will adapt and not see it as extra work. For a few weeks do your routine and change it in some way for a few weeks. I used to walk on my machine for five miles a day for a few weeks then dropped it to three then back up to five. I went by the month. It worked out really well.
:lurk:
i absolutely LOVE winsor pilates...my faves are the ab and bun/thigh ones....i do like one other1 i have too..but i forget the name!
I love swimming - I used to swim laps once or twice a week in Australia, however I rarely go in Hong Kong. I need to find a good pool where they don't badly over-chlorinate the water!!!
I had to have my gallbladder removed not too long ago due to it being a lazy piece of stuff. (Silly bit of baggage just didn't work!) During my surgery, they realized that it was septic and when they tried to take it out, it fell apart, so they had to do extra internal incisions. My cute-as-can-be surgeon made paper mache of my abs. During my recovery, I managed to damage my internal sutures. So, now I hang out with the Mass of Muscle known as Larry. The man's a beast, but he knows his business. I'm anti-sweat, but Larry always makes me sweat, which he declares above all is good for me. He also thinks playing basketball with a twelve pound ball is good for me, so, as you can see, his brain is clearly dead. If the truth is to be told, though, I always feel good after hanging out with Larry, even if I am convinced that I won't be able to walk for the next week or so.
Nicolejoy is right. Swimming is excellent! I lovers it!

You should but this under the Health section. :)
There is an exercise thread.
I like sparkpeople. :bigcheese:
I just found the free workout videos on SparkPeople.com. Since I can't use the treadmill lately because Miss Priss decided she's too old to both take a nap AND sleep through the night (and she has to be everywhere I am and I'm scared she'll get her finger stuck in it...) this is an awesome alternative! I've been on sparkpeople for a while. I like the fact that it takes a lifetime approach, it's all free and it has a ton of resources. (i.e. nutrition tracker, fitness tracker, water intake, forums, inspiration, etc.) It's nice to find solutions! It's also funny to watch Miss Priss when I exercise. She thinks it's a game and tries to catch me or crawl underneath me. I'm always cracking up because she crawls between my legs like I'm a jungle gym or something.
:lurk:
I start my new exercise program tomorrow. I'm excited, but ugh...I need to stock up on the advil today.
oh my word I wanna die. That was the most painful 90 minutes of my life.

Haha, I know the feeling. I sneezed in church last night and thought I was going to die from the sudden movement jarring my muscles.
HEADLINE: Dina dies of a sneeze in church
BOL... pain's ok when it's that kind of pain. Not even close to deadly.
Yeah, it was a good pain. But dang, I've never wanted to pass out, throw up, and cry all at the same time. Or from the same cause. I'm starting to see why they say you get results in 90 days - anyone who wouldn't is in the morgue by that point :biglaugh:
How good can that be for you? Shouldn't you work up to that point? Isn't it tough on your muscles, ligaments, etc? Can't you get stress fractures and strains/sprains from going all the way into a workout like that without working up to it?
I did work up to it. This is following a semester of weight training on campus, and I passed the "fit test" with flying colors to determine if I'm in good enough shape to start this particular program.
I think it's mostly smaller things. I ate a big breakfast (the nutrition plan is a doozy, I'm not using to eating one full meal a day, let alone three and snacks) not long before working out, and I don't think I was taking water breaks often enough during it.
:addnothing:
For the moment, anyway.
BBL
So is this a DVD program or something with your college or online or what?
Not into pain. Good luck! :freaky2:
Actually, it's one of those cheesy infomercial work out systems. It's called P90X. Basically, it's a 90 day routine (6 days a week) that's just a ton of old fashion exercise. Push ups, pull ups, weights (or resistance bands), cardio, etc, with the idea that if you keep mixing it up right it'll prevent plateaus, because your muscles stay confused and can't get into a rut. That, and nutritional eating.
There aren't a set number of reps you have to do, you set your own goals, but I'm pushing myself hard so I get the most out of it I can.
When you're finished, add a little scruff and you may be of interest to some people in here.
:laughhard:
That was great Sis!
:high5:
Day 2. Today was plyometrics, which is a fancy word for an hour of jumping and squats. Often both at the same time. It hurt, but strangely I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to next friday.

Look in the freebies. I see a lot of them in our craigslist. People mean well, but end up using it for a place to throw their clothes. Then they want to get rid of it
Hey TL...when and if you get your treadmill here is a awesome workout to start out with...
Week 1: Walk continuously for 30-60 minutes between 3.0 mph and 4.0 mph. Repeat this workout 3-4 times during the first week. This is just to get you going. If you're somewhat active you can skip this week and go straight to week 2.
Week 2: Walk for 4:30 between 3.0 and 4.0 mph then jog for 30 seconds at a speed between 4.5 and 5.0 mph. After jogging for 30 seconds go back to a walking speed for 4:30. Repeat this pattern 6 times until you reach 30 minutes.
Week 3: Walk for 4 minutes between 3.0 and 4.0 mph then jog between 4.5 and 5.0 mph for 1 minute. Repeat 6 times until you've completed 30 minutes.
Week 4: Walk for 3:30 minutes between 3.0 and 4.0 mph and then jog for 1:30 between 4.5 and 5.5 mph. Repeat 6 times until you've completed 30 minutes.
Week 5: Walk for 3 minutes between 3.0 and 4.0 mph and then jog for 2 minutes between 4.5 and 5.5 mph. Repeat 6 times until you've completed 30 minutes.
Week 6: Walk for 2:30 minutes between 3.0 and 4.0 mph and then jog for 2:30 minutes between 4.5 and 5.5 mph. Repeat 6 times until you've completed 30 minutes.
Week 7: Walk for 2 minutes between 3.0 and 4.0 mph and then jog for 3 minutes between 4.5 and 6.0 mph. Repeat 6 times until you've completed 30 minutes.
Week 8: Walk for 1:30 minutes between 3.0 and 4.0 mph and then jog for 3:30 minutes between 4.5 and 6.0 mph. Repeat 6 times until you've completed 30 minutes.
Week 9: Walk for 1 minute between 3.0 and 4.0 mph and then jog for 4 minutes between 4.5 and 6.0 mph. Repeat 6 times until you've completed 30 minutes.
Week 10: Walk for 30 seconds between 3.0 and 4.0 mph and then jog for 4:30 between 4.5 and 6.0 mph. Repeat 6 times until you've completed 30 minutes.
Week 11: Jog for 30 minutes between 4.5 and 6.0 mph. Do your best not to take any breaks, but if you're really out of breath simply walk for 30 seconds to 1 minute and then go right back to your jogging speed.
:o
Chel and I jogged back to her car Monday from something at the University, (we'd had to park far away) and it was sort of awesome. Especially since it was down hill... :P
Sis: It's probably not quite as likely to find the free treadmills this time of year. Everyone who has one just made a new year's resolution to start using it again!
Unless they made a New Year's Resolution to either move or declutter their whole life.

Many times when I cough I can feel my upper back bone discs popping like a line of dominoes falling over one another.
Yet you still have enough spark to flirt with AB?
I just heard that DR.Z on the news say that when we're sick is when we don't want to move, but for every day we don't excercise it takes 10 days off our life.
Who knows though? But it's a bit motivating!
My luck, I'd keep exercising, adding days to my life and I'll get hit by a truck and die there.
try so we can see.
We have an exercise room here. Use the treadmill and the weights, and the lifting machine. I'll try to stay away from trucks.
Good idea! *HUGS*

I was sorta upset because I did really, really good all day and then we went to McAlister's tonight and the sandwich was great and not very many calories, but the crazy nacho basket that we shared was more calories than my whole day combined!
it'll be okay, Dina! Really! **HUGS**

Men's Y or women's? Most of the women's have gone away and everyone went to the men's.
mens
I applied for an open doors scholorship thats income based and got in at a discount
We dont have a Y...and our gyms here are EXPENSIVE!!
Come visit. We have an exercise room here in the complex.
I felt guilty about the jelly donut and ran in place for 15 minutes to wear some of it off. Didn't feel good enough to do any more. But it sure was good goin' down.
Today has been a purty good day for me, actually. Got up early again (I seem to be on a streak here) and put in some exercise this morning (about 12 minutes or so) and then after work I took a 30 minute walk at my favorite spot along the water near the airport. I was listening to my ipod wiith one ear and listening to the planes with the other ear. :-)
And I had a "pretty" day today - a day when I just felt pretty. :-) It was kind of cool. One of those days when I felt confident, even though I wasn't dressed special and didnt' have my hair a certain way.
So there I was walking along, watching the planes, listening to worship music, and then I started getting messages on my phone...
So there I was walking along at a pretty decent pace to a pretty fast song while feeling pretty, watching the planes land and listening to the birds call to one another while holding my phone and messaging. lol
I must've been a sight. But I felt pretty. Just because.
And the scenery kept going by quickly as I walked at a quick pace, and it was kind of strange to be so focused on messaging while watching the rest of the world fly by and listening to the planes go by.
Okay... I'm feeling poetic at this very moment.
Quick! Someone resurrect the haiku thread!
I got up and went and walk/jogged on the treadmill for a hour...
I burned 500 cals...
I am very proud of myself...
If I can just keep doing that...
:bigcheese:
This is the 3rd day of the 2nd week that I've gotten up early enough to be able to get in 10 to 20 minutes of exercise before work. I'm quite excited! :chairspin:

There ya go, Becca. :-)
With my foot problem, it was lower impact. I could walk without picking up my foot and putting it down. It worked well. I got a new one before coming here but it squeeked something terrible. There wasn't room for it, either. Had to give it to the good will.
did pilates last night and the night before...woot!!
That dude on Elona's link needs a haircut! I really don't like long hair on a guy. It looks prissy in my opinion.
I think I'd like to have a gazelle like that, Elona! If I come visit some day, will you let me try it?
I know, Dina! His hair just really weirds me out, too. *shudder*
Of course I'd let you try out my gazelle!!! It's really awesome for sure. Like Sis said, it's lower impact (actually, I think somewhere it's even called "no impact"!), so it's not hard on my knee. That's really important for me, as that knee can give me fits once in awhile. It also gives a full workout pretty much. It works the upper body with the handles, and if you do it with fast enough music (and keep beat with said fast music lol) it can double as cardio exercise.
I love cardio, I used the elliptical when I was in college and had access to the gym, and that looks a lot like the elliptical.
It is an elliptical from what I understand, yes.
Neato!
I wanted one since before good ole Tony was around with his gazelle. They had some without handles.
When I babysat, the kids wanted to do it, too. They sat on the foot part and moved it back and forth. They wanted to "size" too. LOL
Ohhh...
Ok!!
I know now...
I wish I had one of those!!
But my dad was awesome and bought us a brand new treadmill and I love it...
Wednesday I walked/jogged for a hour, but yesterday I only walked/jogged for 30 minutes...
Had a terrible headache and I just couldnt push myself cause it was pounding soooo hard...

I did 15 minutes on the gazelle this morning before church. I'm thinking that 3 or 4 round trips on the 20 stairs leading up to our new sanctuary counted for SOMETHING as well.
I start phase 2 of P90X tomorrow. I've had some trouble keeping up on it last few weeks due to health and schedule, but I'm trying hard to stick to it for the rest of the program. I owe it to God, Cassie, and myself.
you can do it geek! you alreayd made it through phase one!
I have a friend here who's trying to do that program too. I wonder if they've made it that far yet.
2morrow I start the treadmill again after my weekend off...
:smirk2:
I have got to get MOTIVATED!!
*sigh*
:(
I had a spell of total NONmotivation not too long ago. NOT fun, for sure!
Today I did a 20 minute walk along the bay after work and about 12 minutes on the gazelle this morning.
Plus I did laundry and some housework.
I thought phase 1 was bad. Phase 2 is down right sadistic.
I've never done so many push ups. Fast ones, slow ones, sliding push ups, airborne push ups, one arm push ups, push ups while bending over...ugh.
I had to stop 3/4 through the ab routine due to really sharp pain along my rib cage. That's never happened before.
then you are more fit than you thought you were if thats the first time it has happened to you...
12 minutes on the gazelle this morning. Hoping for a walk after work.
Does cleaning out the car while waiting for a tow truck count as exercise?

My lower face went numb during Plyo X again tonight. Second time in a row that's happened. I wonder if I should be worried.
Ask a Nurse. Hey Chel!!! Is that weird? :eyebrow: Doesn't seem like it should be happening like that.
If it went away when you stopped, you must be hitting a nerve that doesn't want to be disturbed. Do you know any docs that practice medicine in the sports world? A team doctor or something like that?
Took a 25 minute walk after work yesterday. It was awesome.
Did 11 minutes on the gazelle this morning. Not much, but it's consistent. lol
I'm tired, though. Gotta start getting in bed earlier.
how long is it numb? what kind of exercise are you doing?
Plyo consists of jumping, squats, and lunges. It's happened about 30 minutes in both times. A strong tingling/numb sensation along my jawline and chin. Goes away about 20-30 minutes after the routine.
I didnt get to walk today...:(
But I have done awesome on my points...

I walked 40 mins on the treadmill!!
I feel like I walked 40 miles down Michigan Avenue and back. I walked from the time I got to the Loop until we got back at 8:30. That's minus the El ride.
I used to be able to walk all over the place. When we were kids, we'd literally walk probably 20 miles (10 miles each direction) at least three times a week, if not more. This was during the spring/summertime when there were home baseball games for the local triple A baseball team. We didn't think nothing of it at the time. Now, walking more than 10 or 15 minutes is pure torture.
I havent walked today yet...
Might do it later...
Wonder if it will help anything doing it that late?
:eyebrow:

:)
I needed to see someone say it would.
:)
I wish I could join ya. I hate being in so much pain that I can't move. :sadbounce:
My back has been acting up something awful. I use a heat patch on it and it does help some, but I sit at every opportunity or I wouldn't be able to do it.
I did 13 minutes on the African Antelope this morning, and a 30 minute walk after work. :hyper:
Then I came home and ate 3 peanut butter balls. lol Oh well. At least I exercised SOME! :-)
I'm on strike today!!!
Me too!
Forget the housework! ;)

I think I have went on strike since Thursday...
Okay. Finally got back in the swing of things again. Still been fairly consistent in the 10+ minute routine in the morning, but on Tuesday I walked for about 45 minutes - brisk, quick sort of walking in the chilly post-rain breeze. It felt really good, but I'm still feeling it in my calves. Strangely enough, yesterday my appetite was decreased, and I actually wanted to exercise. I didn't have time to go walking yesterday evening because it was a church night, but I did some extra time on the African Antelope after church.
*pokes Becca* Don't lose your momentum TOO much. You'll feel better once you get going again.
TL: How's life at the Y?
Dina: How's your exercise time with Ariel? :-)
I had to take a break on my routine when I got sick. I tried starting it back up this last Sunday, and ended up getting sick halfway through it. Gonna try again this Sunday.
Does picking up a toddler over and over count as weight lifting? She's about 25 lbs.
Sure! ;)
On the plus side, I've lost 15 pounds (and gained muscle to boot) in less than two months doing this program.
yay geek! go you!
That's great! :thumbsup2:
*sigh*
I havent been walking for 2 weeks now...
Theses new kids DRAIN me...
I am always sooo tired now...
BUT...
Monday, or Tuesday I am going to get back in the swing or should I say walk of things...
I have not been feeling the best due to alergies but I have made myself go o the y to hit the treadmill even if its just 15 or 20 min, so I dont get out of the habit
I didnt get on it today...
Tupid told and tids...
:smirk2:
10 minutes on the African Antelope this morning. Staying consistent even though I'm feeling a bit under the weather (ugh).
QuoteAfrican Antelope
Wassdat? There's a Gazelle in the Craigslist for FREE. It must be a more expensive one because it has a video with it. Wish I had the room.
Wish I had motivation.
:smirk2:
You should have walked to the shopping center with me. Nice walk. Not in a hurry, including shopping around, took three hours. Got my vitamin D for the day. LOL
Good for you, Sis!
And wow! A free gazelle?!?! I had to drive a good way and pay about 50 bucks or so for mine!
I got motivated last night and walked for 70 minutes on the dreadmill..
:bigcheese:
Yay! Go Becca!!!
Go, Becca!!
Yesterday and today both saw me hitting the trail for 30+ minutes in addition to my 10-minute morning wakeup routine. Feels good!
I went and painted at the church again tonight...
So that was my exercise for the day...
How much paint did you get on you? :hypocrite:
Took a long walk today. Skipped the gazelle this morning. Too much going on getting ready for ladies prayer meeting.
We walked on the old railroad bed some more. We found a map of the trail and we've done the middle part. Now we have to do the ends. LOL

And I went shopping yesterday all day, so that was my excerise...
:bigcheese:
And Sundays are my rest days...
Yeah, God said so!
I started the P90X program back up after a hiatus due to stress and bad health.
Chest & Back totally kicked my rear.
...odd sentence.
But yeah. Sooo worn out.
Welcome back and don't kill yourself with that stuff.
Taking a couple days off cuz I'm
That's understandable!
Havent worked out since I walked that 70 mins on the dreadmill...
:smirk2:
When you recover from the experience, you can try again! :bigcheese:
I think I am going to join Curves...
I need help with my workouts...
Don't you have curves already?
Oh yes...
To many of them...
Mine curve out instead of in like they used to . :laughhard:
I have a bump then a curve then a bump then BIG hips...
:smirk2:
:laughat:
:o
Hard to imagine, isn't it?
Wouldnt be if ya saw me...
:smirk2:
Oh piffle. I saw my patoot in the mirror and wondered who it belonged to. It's BIG!
:laughat:
Mine is flat and WIDE!
Mine is FAT and wide!
*snort*
Back to our regularly scheduled program already in progress.
Been on the dreadmill today?
Nope.
I need to though.
:smirk2:
Come on over. The exercise room here has two dread mills and we can walk together. They have a TV in there. Or we could walk to the shopping center and back.
Spent 8 minutes on the African Antelope this morning. Just enough to make sure I didn't lose my steam. I think I'll walk tonight. Had WAY too much for lunch.
African Antelope? You keep deer at your place?

My sister is always saying that I've been blessed.....I wish I was blessed in equal parts! :-?
I'm working on toning my blessing..... a group of us at work have been walking a mile and a half plus some.... some days minus some...lol
But I'm starting to see a difference!!!

Women in the world don't have the slightest clue, right!!!!?
Yeah! They think the tight jeans holds stuff in, but it shows EVERYTHING. And everything else spills over the top. No thanx! Skirts for me.
:laughhard:
Wearing a girdle doesn't hurt, though.
Doesn't hurt what....your selfesteem :laughhard:? I find they hurt my ability to breathe...lol
 Yeah, they can do that, can't they?
I just meant if we really feel the need to hold it all in we don't need jeans. We have other sources.
Still no dreadmill for me. :smirk2:
Sis I wish I did live by someone who would go work out with me...
It would help alot.
Someone to talk to and pass time...
*sigh*
When I had my gazelle in NY, I would watch videos and exercise in the living room. No room for one here, though. It's much more fun than the dreadmill.
Hmmm... Maybe we should have a conference call while we exercise some evening? If my headset is charged up, I can talk hands-free...
I'm not at home when I'm walking. It's across the parking lot past the dumpster! :laughhard:
Oh well... I guess that idea won't work for you, then, huh?
Back to the think tank, I guess...
I want to talk to someone while walking...
/me pouts
You can call me anytime. I'll talk to ya. So will RJ!
I know...
I just dont know when everyone is busy or not busy...
:)
I have no life. I'm hardly ever busy. And if I'm doing something like dishes or laundry, the interruption would be welcome.
Played the Wii Fit last night...
Whoo Whee!!
Thats a workout!!
I LOVED it!!
Your dread mill is gonna feel bad!
:highfive: Becca
I played Wii fit Friday night for the first time. Got on the balance board and the baby reached for me. lol I caved in and held him while I played the game where you tilt your body to get the balls in the holes. The screen told me that my weight was different than it was before. lol DUH! I'm holding another PERSON!
Got up this morning and did 12 minutes on the African Antelope. I REALLY wish I could get myself motivated when the alarm goes off the FIRST time! lol

That's funny, Sis. She's been calling it that for a looonnng time. ;)
I know and I've asked her before what that was and she missed it or something because I never got an answer. Goes to show ya I'm slow on the uptake.
Sis has memory lapse sometimes...*cough* ALL THE TIME!!

Hey go back on your dreadmill and put your tongue away! *Sis hands Becca a sugar free marshmallow Easter egg candy*
EWWWW!!!! Sugar free...run, run!! :o *says Becca to the other Becca* :o
If I can't have the real stuff I just do without!!! :(
I would really like to get rid of this weight. I'll never be 98 again, but I'd like to get rid of this extra stuff. So when I have a craving, sugar free is better than the real thing.
It's so hard to lose weight when you have little metabolism.
I agree Sis...
I want the good stuff...
Dont want to gain the weight I have lost back...

When I have a craving I usually find something better to take it's place...like something salty instead of something sweet. If I do give in and have what I'm craving then I just sacrifice something in it's place or make myself walk an extra mile for the day!
Tried all that but there are just some days the craving is too much, so sugar free is better than cheating. I don't eat a lot of it. Just to keep me from getting something I shouldn't have which will really set off old cravings.
I don't eat a lot of candy but every once in a while, I want something. Easter is the worst time because I love marshmallow and whipped cream filled eggs and bunnies.
Thats where I am good...
I dont like sweets, but I am a nuts fan...
:laughhard:
A nuts fan? And here I thought you were just plain nuts! lol
I was thinking the same thing! But it takes one to know one, I guess.

I haven't done my P90X stuff in about a month and a half due to rampant illness. Just as soon as doctors figure out what's going on and fix it, I plan on starting back up. Hoping for a June start date.
i did pilates last night...the ab one, and the bun/thigh one!
I don't wanna exercise. *sigh*
I think I'm fighting depression
which means that exercise would HELP,
but it's the LAST thing I want to do right now.
I just want to EAT. Ugh. And it makes me miserable.
Even Mrs. Fields milk chocolate macadamia cookies don't taste very good right now, and they usually make me enjoy the calorie splurge.
You're just getting over a bug of some kind. Your body might still be fighting it off. Get some rest and try in a few days.

I hope that's all there is to it, Sis. I really do. I've gained five pounds in a week. Aren't you supposed to LOSE weight when you're sick? *sigh*
And how are you today??
E...
When I get sick...
I eat...
I hate it...
It makes me MAD...
Most everyone I know loses their appetites when they are sick...
But NOOOO not me...
:smirk2:
Those cookies aren't a cure for the common cold! Sorry, couldn't resist.
Becca, me, too. I think it's boredom. I don't feel well enough to be up but my stomach is up to eating, I put in a movie, lay back and munch.
Also, I guess it depends on WHAT you're munching on. Big difference between munching on leftover chicken and a whole bag of chips! :laughhard:
But I agree when you're sick those lines blur really easily!
Ugh. I need to do a kitchen purge. At lunchtime today I found myself snacking on a bag of chocolate chips. How dumb is THAT!! They weren't even made into COOKIES, for cryin' out loud!
I agree! I don't keep that stuff around too tempting. Especially for Stevebert. I buy it when it's close to Christmas because of home made gifts.
Ooooo I am bad about that also...
Thats why we buy only WW snacks for around the house and when my dad buys his own he hides it so we cant find it...
:)
Smart Dad. Have you ever gone crazy tearing the house apart looking for dad's goodies? :laughhard: :laughhard:
i got some little debbie cupcakes the other day...last week....2 boxes...and i already ate all but like 2 of them/.....but...i do count them into my points to make sure i can afford them!

Yes I have...
And I found them...
:freaky2:
lol I stay away from WW snacks. Found splenda in them. *sigh* Stupid sugar substitutes.
You cant have spenda?
Or do you not like them?
Or are they supposedly bad for you 2?
Sugar substitutes give some people migraines. Some get rashes, and some have breathing problems. Me thinks RJ said once that she got the headaches.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh...
Thanks Sis...
Welcome! :thumbsup2:
Actually, splenda (sucralose) makes my heart race. Gives me weird shortness of breath and makes me feel like I'm having what must be an anxiety attack. When I first started sparkpeople, I tried several WW desserts (esp the ice cream stuff) only to realize that they had splenda in them. *sigh* Now I just stay away from almost all "diet" snacks, because 99 times out of 101, the main sweeteners are artificial (usually splenda).
Nutrasweet gives me terrible headaches. When I cut diet soft drinks from my diet years ago, I stopped having headaches as frequently as I used to have them (which was like all the time).
Awww...
I'm sorry Elona...
:smirk2:
It's probably better for ya. Both are health risks. But I know it and indulge sometimes, anyway. Does sugar alcohol stuff bother you? Or does most of that have splenda, too?
Thanks, Becca.
Not that I know of, Sis (to both questions lol).
:bigcheese:
I walked 30 minutes on the dreadmill!!!
:hyper:
RJ, I saw a Gazelle at the Goodwill for $25.00 I couldn't believe it. There were a bunch of Hispanic guys trying to figure out how to use it, so I hopped on and went with it. LOL It didn't squeek like mine did.
I WANT ONE!!!
:o
GRRRR!!
Does exercising your mouth and fingers count? :hypocrite:
I think that only keeps your lips and fingers slender. :laughhard:
:laughhard:
So, THAT'S why the rest of me hasn't caught up!
Going to walk on the dreadmill again... :)

I couldn't help showin' off to those dumb guys who couldn't figure out something so simple. And they say that women are dumb? HUMPH. I showed them and their Hispanic macho stuff. :laughhard:

That's why I loved the Gazelle. Low impact on joints. I had problems with my foot and knee. You can keep a stiff knee while doing it, and still get the exercise.
Yeah, I wish I had one. *sigh*
Me 2 AJ...
:smirk2:
Well, come up to this goodwill and get it for $25. It didn't have the counter on it anymore, though, but you can gusstimate how long it would take you to walk a mile. Or if you're just timing it, you can use a kitchen timer.
Mine doesn't have a timer. I just turned the stopwatch function on with my timer and watched the time go by. :-)
:laughhard:

I had some in Physical therapy. When they get old, they get brittle. I went to use one and it broke and snapped me in the side. Bruised meself in the process. Don't like them any more.
These ones are pretty nice quality - they're the tubes and not the flat plastic things, but I never know how much I'm actually lifting. They have ratings, but when you have to put your foot on it to change the slack, you change the resistance.
I'm too OCD to be comfortable with not knowing exactly how much I'm lifting. That's really my only complaint with them.
That's what I was like on the gazelle. Needed to know how far I had walked. :laughhard:

WOO HOO! YEA! go AJ!
and ya know, sometimes its much healthier to lose the inches than the weight... I could care less if i stayed the same weight i am now, but i am definately starting to care more about what i do with the weight i carry around. My goal is to be able to do 200 situps at a time. im not there yet.
When I wasn't diagnosed yet, and I was gaining so fast, I started doing situps. I was up to 200 a day, broken up into three or four times a day. When I went to yet another doctor, he said, you're just eating too much and you don't exercise. I started to tell him about three miles a day rollerblading and walks and situps.... I got as far as saying, I'm doing 200 situps a day, and he interrupted me and yelled..... (yes YELLED)... I'm not talking about THAT, I'm talking about real exercise.
You want to know why I don't like doctors and wish I wasn't on thyroid meds so I could avoid them altogether?
What's considered "real" exercise if that stuff isn't?!?! :eyebrow:
He didn't hear a word I said. Wouldn't give me a physical or a blood test. Just told me to go home and quit complaining and doctor shopping. (My doc's office made the appointment to see him)
The only nice doctor I've met since I gained this weight was in NY and she was kind of cold. But only went by certain standards and wouldn't try to check out other stuff, so I still don't know if I have Fibromyalgia or not.
Grrr. Don't like rude doctors who don't listen to the symptoms and check em out.
Thankfully I have a doctor that cares.

You'd love it around here. They have so many paved trails, you could go blading and see something different every time.
i need to start working out again. i was at cato's yesterday trying on some skirts [i'm in need of church clothes. i literally have 2, maybe 3 church outfits.] and i've went up another size. i'm went up 4 sizes in the last 6-7 months. curses upon my slowing metabolism and getting old!

That happened to me, and it was my thyroid. I gained 80 pounds in six months, and I would buy clothes, wear them once, then outgrow them. Slowing metabolism isn't something that happens with age until you're past 50.
my mom and dad did the same thing at my age. so i'm not really worried because i know it's my very unhealthy eating and little to no exercising.
Right around 30 your metabolism starts to slow down. I'm sure it does again later but it does around 30 too.
3 days this last week i walked at the cemetary beside my apt.
does shouting at church last night count as exercise?
Sure! Do you take these walks in the cemetary at night?.................................... During a full moon?

I actually wonder about that. We know that exercise = endorphines = happy feelings. For folks that don't excercise all week and then let loose on Sundays, well you just have to be sure you're not shouting to feel good as much as it is about loving God.
I really think most people love God, don't get me wrong, I just wonder how much deeper things could even be, and how much easier it'd be for folks to judge in themselves what is a physical high and a Holy Ghost high. Not knockin' shouting at all, I do it!

From Woman's Day Magazine:
Common Wisdom: The More You Exercise, the Slimmer You'll Be
Reality: Move more, burn more calories, lose more weight—right? Maybe not. It turns out there really isn't much proof that doing lots of intense exercise is best for slimming down. "[It's] better to distribute the movements throughout the day," explains Hans-Rudolf Berthoud, PhD, a professor of neurobiology and nutrition at Louisiana State University, in a recent Time magazine story.
One problem is that when most of us go for a "workout," we tend to overestimate how much we're getting out it. To burn off a small chocolate milkshake, for example, you'd have to run for 50 minutes or walk for 120 minutes. A related issue, say experts, is that an extended bout of activity can stimulate your appetite so that you end up eating more than you normally would.
This doesn't mean that you shouldn't exercise; just don't feel bad if you're not a "gym" person. And remember: There's plenty of proof that physical activity helps prevent conditions like type 2 diabetes and heart disease, so making the numbers on the scale move isn't the only reason to do it.

I got a treadmill and have set a goal to use it at least 30 min a ay. Going back to school I dont want to set a goal I wont keep so I set it at 30 min a day
I recently started walking about 4 miles a day on a walking trail maintained by the city. Rather than focusing on dieting, I'm coming at the problem from the other direction - get in good shape (able to jog 3+ miles) and let my metabolism burn off the weight.
