dreads
Cool or not?
If you could - would you?
If you had them, would it change anything in your life?
As a single, would it change your prospects?

Cool or not? Only this kind
((http://www.gethealthywashoe.com/images/dreadlocks.jpg))and only if done properly and neatly (it you do with with wax), not the kind where just don't wash/brush your hair for a month.
and, no, I wouldn't do that to my hair. What a nightmare! I would look terrible (white Italian-American girl + dreads to the waist = fashion accident)
IMHO............they look ok on some, but, not many can pull that style off!!!!!!!

cool on some people, not the nasty dirty kind, though. but the ones like zizi posted. those look good on some people. they seem to say, "hey, i'm funky and fun and creative." rockstars who play loud strong music . .. they look good with dreads, too.
if i could, i wouldn't. my hair is too skinny. it would look silly.
it would not change anything in my life. i would still be my own :pwink: self. i am the same inside and out.
hhhmmm . . . change my prospects? hahaha . . . . can't be any worse than they are now! maybe i should try that after all . . . AH!! JUST KIDDING!!
I would be willing to try if my hair on top was long enough...or at least thick enough...it has thinned out this year.
:biglaugh:
Uncool.
Not this head of hair!!!
dreads are for those other people - the ones you don't actually know... you just see them on street and admire them for their odd hairstyle
until you know them... and then you think "my cousin is so weird, I wonder how long this dread phase will last" and then you think "my cousin is still weird, but i'm glad the dread phase is over"
They DO make the world more interesting, in a weird way.
The really funky, gnarly dreads, commonly referred to as "doo-doo dreads" in these parts, are actually a source of endless amusement to me.
If that's the case, and there are single Apostolic men in Minnesota, then there are siome guys seriously lacking in either knowing you, or not asking you out! :thumbsup2:
Unless, of course, you are just underestimating the number who pursue you, out of modesty.

Dreads seem to give people a social edginess that I find cool.
It's a bit annoying if I know they're just being trendy, though.
I think they look kinda cool sometimes.
Would I? Nah. I'm too much of a traditionalist, I suppose.
Change my prospects? For sure, if I still lived where I do presently.
:beret:
Dude, seriously. Did you just say 'social edginess'?
*points finger*
WaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!
V
:laughhard:
*wheeze*
*sigh*
*chortle*
Thanks, I needed that.
heeeeee
ummm, did you just type ..... *chortle* ....... :eyebrow:
:laughhard:
Anyway...moving on... ;)
Dreads seem to say that the person has a certain amount of personal freedom. The concern of "looking pretty or looking good" is not the issue.
Most of the time they say, "I smoke lots and lots and lots of reefer".
:redclown: :hippy: :redclown: :hippy: :silly:
Quoteummm, did you just type ..... *chortle*
Why yes, I did :)
But I chortled first.
Doo doo? Seems to fit because I heard where they're from (Can't remember which island, maybe Jamaca?) anyway, they keep them that way because they use animal feces to make them the way they look. EWWWWWWWWWWWW not this kid.
Cool or not? Not cool
If you could - would you? Definately wouldn't do them in my hair
If you had them, would it change anything in your life? Folks would think I'd gone off the deep end
As a single, would it change your prospects? Probably by attracting the wrong kind of attention
No, I wouldn't..the pic posted several posts above is about as dcent as I've seen them look, and still not for me.

that's funny you would say that. i don't think that at all. so i wonder if it's a difference between the east and west, north and south.
the people i have met in NYC who have dreads, and i've met a couple, were very articulate, creative, interesting people. i wished i could sit and have coffee with them and talk about their latest projects. honestly. i have only seen a couple with dreads in mpls, but i had the same thought.
they were very clean and very well put together. not "hippy-ish" at all.
maybe the artist types haven't hit your part of the country yet and it's still just the bob marley types wearing dreads?
hhhmmm. interesting.
and, as for you mr. newsman . . . stop! you're making me blush!

Dreads and braids are two different things. Dreadlocks came about as an expression of Rasta - which is a cannabis-based religion. And there is only one flavor of dreads. "Doo doo". lol
Although the poop-in-the-hair thing is gross and just a rumor. You would be amazed at some of the things people mistakenly put in their hair to try and start their locks. The "lock" part of it refers to the natural locking action of the hair, and clean hair locks much easier than dirty hair anyway.
As far as the artist types go, I've noticed those who assume an outlandish appearance so that they can look more like an artist and still retain some respectability [so they won't be thrown out of fancy-pants gallery openings] are mostly art groupies anyway.
Sort of a "I want to
look like an antisocial outcast but not
be one" thing. Kinda like the "hippies" whose parents were loaded and just wanted to "be in the scene" as it were. Then they grew up and got jobs in government lol.
The artists are mostly hanging about in the warehouse district doing art.
It all depends on who they are on...some people can pull them off, and some cant. Just like with anything else. I like them if they are clean and neat, and look good on the person. And I woul date a guy with them...again, if they were clean and neat and look good. But I would give my Mom a heart attack.
And for me? No, been there, tried that...got 16 braids out of it, looked REALLY bad. I dont have enough hair...and it took forever to put them in, AND take them out...and I bout' gave my Mom a heart attack.

oops, sorry melsie, i just had to do it :laughhard:
i think they're cool i would totally do them if i would be guaranteed the health of my hair when i took them out.... i tried to get a lady at my church to do my hair in microbraids..... she laughed at me lol. she told me my hair was way too long (bottom of my glutteal region) but it would be a nice relief from the everyday stuff i do now :) and idk that i have any current prospects so maybe i could get some cool tree-hugging prospects ;)
*shakes head*
Yeah, I had that one coming...
glutteal region, nice :great:
IMHO...definitely not cool, do you know how easy it would be to get creepy crawlies in those things? Ewwwww.
But apart from that, every time I see someone with dreads my hands itch for a shaver to shave the lot off. I mean...unless it cultural....why???
It it's just for the look, it smacks too much of try-hard-ness.
Just my 5c
Certain people it works.
My usual thought is "gag!" unless they're OBVIOUSLY well-kept up.
