My pastor is 78 years old.  He's been preaching so long, in so many places, at such volume that his voice is downright trachyphonius, and his skin is trachycarpous from his secular job as a carpenter.  You should see his hands - the right hand is normal for a 78 year old man, but the left hand has not one fingernail that doesn't look rotten.  Guess which hand he holds the nails with when he hammers them in.  C'mon, guess!

They are not useless!  Using a word someone doesn't know is a great way to find out a lot about that person.  Another good way is to say "Good morning!" in mid-afternoon or night.  Anything unexpected will throw a person off his stride and reveal a lot about his character.

Your turn still...

The visiting archbishop pronounced an official macarism to the congregation for their new church building.

Demarcate.

Can we use variations of a word, such as demarcation?  And I think it should be a rule that you have to come up with a word out of your own head... looking up words from a list online by googling "difficult (and/or) obscure words" is just too easy.  Figuring out what someone else's submitted word is, that can be googled I guess.

What I meant about being able to tell a lot about people is when someone runs up against something unexpected his automatic responses are derailed and the social mask slips a bit.  Then you see a glimpse of his true self.

Forgot to type the rest of that... About the social mask slipping, reminds me of this diner owned and operated by a man with a great sense of humor.  Jokes were all over the wall, like "If you are cantankerous, unruly or just plain unpleasant there will be a $5 charge for having to put up with you."  On the counter was a small wooden box that said on the lid, "Open only in case of fire."  When you opened it (as almost everyone did) the inside only had more words, "I said in case of fire stupid!"

He said it was amazing the different reactions people gave.  Some would laugh, some would be disgusted, some would get downright hostile.
