 :pound:  for starting this thread.

Now for the question...

what I like most about GP is the caring and non judgemental christian attitude that is shown on this forum and the fact that its carefully monitored and kept that way.

What is your favorite song and why?

I've got several songs that I like.  Here's a few

"I win" by Roland Baker
"psalms 150" which I've heard by a couple of different artists
"I've got the Victory" by Tye Tribbett

One of my favorite verses is this one...

2 Timothy 2:15  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Why?  because it tells me God wants me to dig in and learn all I can about his word.

Thats the point of these "ask" threads  ;)

For your question... My life is in transition as I had to leave the church I'd been attending this past year and find another church.  Transition isn't easy but I'm hanging in there.

one of my heros would be my mom because I've watched the things she's had to go through as a pastors wife in a church that isn't growing, as the mother of 2 that left the faith she raised them in, and as working lady in a store that doesn't treat is workers very well and seen how she holds on anyhow.

Might depend on which scruffy batchelor my twin planning on thumping and why she's planning on thumping him.  Newsman she might have reason to thump.  Some of the other scruffy guys on here I don't know that she'd have reason to thump them.

Its a consideration to fire the internet provider and find a new provider.  Dad is having verizon send us a new modem since they holler "its your modem". (basically to prove to them that its not the modem) If they don't correct their lousy service after sending us the new modem its quite likely that dad will be sending them on down the road and finding another company to provide us with internet.

I doubt I'll ever receive a million dollars in this lifetime.  If I did it might be nice to put a big chunk towards some church project or even help pay off some poor kids medical bills like someone so graciously did for me a few years ago.

I don't have a favorite thing to cook.   Usually I just cook or help mom cook what ever the family is going to eat that day.  If its just me eating I go for microwave stuff or something I can bake fairly quick in the oven.

True the Bible doesn't say "thou shalt not play the lottery".  In my opinion it falls under the concept of being a good stewart since so many people blow so much money on lottery and usually don't win much if anything.

I've actually got a couple of Bible stories that are favorites.

#1 the story of Queen Esther -
I like this one becuase this story was involved in one of the challenges I had to do when I was in Sunday School many moons ago.  I think we had a month to read and study the book of Esther on our own and at the end of the month we had a dress up party at one of the teachers houses and one of us would be crowned "queen".  The queen contest was answering questions from what we'd read in Esther and me and another girl tied for 1st place.  When the tie breaker question was given I ended up winning.

#2 The story of Ruth
This one I like because I identify with the feeling like an outsider trying to serve God.

There's a couple of places I might like to go on vacation...

1.  Someplace in the western usa.  I've been to some of the states north, south, and east of Indiana but never been west of Indiana except for  Chicago (which to me classes more as North of Indiana).

2.  I'd love to go visit Germany since part of my dad's side of the family is origionally from Germany.

There's a couple of places I might like to go on vacation...

1.  Someplace in the western usa.  I've been to some of the states north, south, and east of Indiana but never been west of Indiana except for  Chicago (which to me classes more as North of Indiana).

Come on out to Oregon sometime.  There's some GP folks who might put you up for a few days, which would greatly reduce the cost of the trip.  :D

A cold hot pocket (after its been microwaved) is a yucky pocket.
A cold hot pocket (before its been microwaved) is a brick.

For those that want the supersoaker story...

Nai and I were cohorts in pranks at Indiana District  Youth camp during our years there as campers.  Our last year as campers Nai brought a supersoaker to use on fellow campers.  Through the week all we had to do was show it and threaten to fill it up and that did the trick.

Friday afternoon however we decided it was payback time for my brother and some others that we'd had a water fight with the previous year.  We loaded the supersoaker with water and went to look up my brother.  Before we found my brother the District Youth President stopped us and asked what the supersoaker was for.  We told him it was for my brother.  We agree now we should have said "You" and hosed the Youth President down with water seeing as how it was the last day of our last year as campers and he couldn't send us home.

Oh ya... we did find my brother had had a great time getting soaked with water.  God even joined the fun and dumped a rainstorm on us.

the story behind my name....

My online handle Backseat Radio which I've shortened here lately to bsr came from bus ministry years ago.  Back when I was about 12-13 years old my dad was the assistant pastor at a church and also drove the church bus to pick up sunday school kids.  It was my job to keep record of who rode on the bus (names, addresses, ect) which mean I had to ride the bus.  My best friend, my 2 cousins, and sometimes my brother would all pile into the back of the bus and to amuse ourself we started going the sunday school action songs.  My dad dubbed us as the Backseat Radio and the name stuck ever since.

As for my real name... before my dad ever got in church and met my mom he was engaged to another lady.  Him and that lady had already planned out how many kids they would have and what  they would name their kids.  Well his fiance went to chicago for college and found a guy she liked better and broke off the relationship.  Then after my dad got in church and married my mom she liked the name him and his ex fiance had picked out to name their girl.  Thats the name I ended up with. They found out after they named me that my name means heavenly reborn or heavenly born again.

Since 1987 - I started piano lessons the summer before I started 1st grade and had 12 years of classical training.  I've played piano for churches off and on since 12th grade.

my favorite song... classical wise I like do to the first page of the skaters waltz.  church music wise it depends on what song hits my fancy at the time.  Mostly I prefer to do the slower songs or the 3/4  or 6/8 timing songs (the ones you double clap too)

How old were you when you got your liscense, and your first car. What was your first car?
Title: Re: Ask Sis Backseat Radio
Post by: Backseat Radio on April 20, 2008, 09:10:24 PM
I was 16  1/2 aproximately when I got my drivers liscence.  I didn't actually want the liscence but mom and dad insisted that I was going to get it.  I'm glad now they did insist cause its been a great  help in keeping from going nuts since then cause I can get out and do what I want with out having to look up a ride.

My first car wasn't the one I took my drivers test in.  I took my drivers test in my parents Ford Station Wagon.  The lady that went with me for the test was shocked that I could menuver that size of car.  Looking back I should have taken that test in my parents International Travelall and really shocked the lady.   :P

The first car that was pretty much mine to drive (even though my parents owned it) was a white 1980 dodge diplomat.  The thing had an automatic transmission, a manual choke, and a toggle switch (hopefully I don't need to explain that one).  it was notorious for dying if you didn't let it warm up long enough which meant I learned to left foot break.  It was unfortunately in bad enough shape that it won worst car the year I drove it and the year my brother drove it as seniors in high school.

Dad wouldn't let me drive the dodge to college cause of how bad of shape it was in and bought me a 1993 Grand Am stick shift to replace it.  I spent the summer before college learning the art of driving a stick shift.  The one thing I remember and miss about that grand am is the bass on the stereo was good enough that it would make the image in the rearview mirror go double to the beat of the music.

The first car I bought myself it the one I currently drive.  Its a red 1995 Chevy Beretta with automatic transmission.

yes I have a bad back.  I broke the L1 vertebrae in a car accident on July 25, 2003 and had surgery to try to repair things the following day.  Those that have been around this board for a while have already heard about that accident but since you haven't I'll give a quick run down.

Naomi (chinadoll) and I had gone down to Memphis, TN for a childrens minister's conference and on the last day decided we'd do a bit of sight seeing into Arkansas before we went home.  On the way back into Tennessee my car hit a bad patch of pavement on I-55 south, was thrown air borne and hit the concerete interstate divider at about 70 mph since the road itself went around a curve.   The front drivers side corner hit first and then the car was spun around in a full 360 against the wall before it came to rest again on the road.

If you want a bit of an idea of what Nai and I went through watch this crash test done by TopGear
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROO7DBW3R0I

I can post pictures of it if you want me to

Title: Re: Ask Sis Backseat Radio

Oh ya....
As far as the condition of my back now...  L1 is pasted back together and rods now incase that area of my spine for a length of 5 vertebrae (2 below and 2 above L1).  I've actually got quite a bit of mobility to the place I doubt those that saw me at music fest would have been able to tell I've got a bad back if they didnt know about my car accident.  (you might ask them about that) The only problems I have from it is mild ache in my lower back, a lifting limitation of 20lbs, and occasional pains down my left hip especially when I sneeze.

Even though you didn't ask about it I'd probably better tell the side of that story that my parents normally tell on me... the hospital bill.

When we had that crash I did not have medical insurance except for $10,000 on my car insurance policy.  The bill from the week I spent in the Mempis Med Center came up to over $104,000.  The day after I was released from the hospital someone walked in and payed the entire bill and left an extra $1,900 in case I had anymore bills.  To this day we do not know who it was.  All we know is we have a copy of the bill saying it was paid.  The bill wrote the payment down as "community charity" but I didn't fill out any community charity paperwork because of how quickly I was processed thru the hospital.   The $10,000 on my car insurance took care of the misc medical bills when I got back to Indiana and the bill from the ER in memphis.

If you had to spend a week on a deserted island and could only take 5 things with you, what would they be, and how would you spend the week?

Actually I like the color design I have right now on my walls.  My mom, My brother, and I did that with sponge years ago when we first moved into the house.

If I had the money I'd redo the floor of my room.  I've got yucky old lenolium on the floor thats cracked and falling apart and I can't stand the stuff.

As for the desert island question I know one of the things I'd take is my Bible and I'd probably spend the week in prayer.

I do enjoy some cooking and baking.  My abilities has its limitations because of family allergies and because of my back injury.  Found out real quick just how much strength it takes to knead bread.

As melody says I do end up baking a lot of pot pies, tatertots, french fries, and other things that are just slap on the pan and bake.  I also commonly end up stiring up brownies and cakes and baking them since my mom doesnt have time or energy to do such things.

anything that I don't already know how to play thats not a percussion instrument and not too heavy weight wise for me to work with.

I already know how to play the piano and trombone.  I've also pecked around on the clarinet, flute, accordian, and violin but never had any professional training on them.   I'd love to have a good accordian but a good one would probably weigh more than my back would handle carrying around.

I had interest in guitar up until my brother got one for I think either Christmas or Birthday or might have been for his graduation.  After that I wouldn't have anything to do with guitar since at that point in time I didn't want to be my brother's shadow and tried to pick things that wasn't of interest to him.  Its probably just as well now cause I'm not sure I could handle the weight of a guitar with my back problems.

to be honest I don't do anything to really "maintain" my slim figure.  I've always been naturally slim except right before I learned to walk.   I've always been of the opinion that all these diets people go on are downright dumb and that I don't need to go on any diets.

You probably couldn't tell it by looking at me but I have put on about 25 lbs in the past few years.  After my car accident about 5 years ago I got down to about 90lbs now I'm up around 115lbs.  I do probably need to start picking healthier foods and getting into an excercise routine so I keep fit and keep from putting too much weight on.

that spider is still alive someplace unless it died of a heart attach from being missed by my fly swatter followed by being photographed by my camera.  Just as soon as I got that picture taken and laid down the camera to dispense of the spider he took off running and I aint seen him since.

Title: Re: Ask Sis Backseat Radio

the most unusual food I've eaten that I recall is poke.  I've seen stranger things at the chinese restaurant like octopus, but I've never dared to try them.

My family took a missionary to that chinese restaurant once and come to find out that octopus was a common food in the country they were serving in.  They ate all the strange stuff that some of the rest of us wouldn't touch off the food bar.

it doesn't stay stuck to the pan.  Mom and I have had to throw out at  least 2 meals because the teflon came off the pan and ended up in the food.  Now we use pans that don't have the non stick on them.
