Title: How do you survive highschool???
Post by: BrittaniHonaker on September 05, 2007, 07:27:04 PM
Im sure im not the only one that ever wishes they could be homeschooled or perhaps jus dont wanna go to school at all.... its so hard sometimes being in a school full of kids who find no other pleasure than to do drugs,be in gangs, fight, curse, and pick on anyone who is different from them.. well i can pretty much say this is how my school is.. its almost no type of place fit to learn.. things seem so caotic in the halls and almost unbearable at times.. those who u could once consider a friend is no longer around.. places u thought u could enjoy time by urself are no longer to be found.. its crazy...its highschool...

*hugs* Britt

and just think how bad it would be for your friends if they had to handle highschool without a light like you around

hang in there - Jesus lives within you, you got the blood pled over you and a whole church (plus me!) full of prayer support behind you this school year

Find a cool teacher that you can work for during your off periods (like lunch). Maybe they can even get you out of gym.

You survive it one day at a time.  Public high school isn't easy but with God's help you can make it through. Prayer and making sure you know why you believe what you believe will help keep you from being rocked so bad by what those at school bring your way, especially temptation wise.  also find you some kind of Godly support system to turn to for encouragement and prayer when things do get rough at school.

I went all the way through public high school as a christian lady, and a pastors daughter of a home missions work and yes I did have my struggles.  I was far from being perfect but those that gave me the hardest time in high school very much respect me now for who and what I am.

You can do it  :great:

You only have ONE more year of Highschool so look on that

But Collage is just as hard if not harder * from what i hear*

but take it from a girl that has been homeschooled for many years on and off.
Don't get me wrong i LOVE being homeschooled but it is what you make it, as is public high school.

                         PS
Kids are mean and vicious thy do not care who's feelings they hurt as long as they themselves are Happy, but don't take it to heart they will be out of your life next year and you will find a whole new set of temptations and trials but God is always there NOMATTER what.

I read that and I was thinking..."How did she know that our whole church takes special care to pray for our kids?...." then I remembered, you were there that night! :)

you know how girls/boys are just on top of the world when they have a boyfriend/girlfriend?  How they feel so validated, accepted, and not alone?

Let Jesus court you.  Fall in love with Him and let Him be that romance in your life.  The person you can't wait to talk to when you get home from school.  The one who does the sweetest things for you when you least expect it.  When ya daydream (that's me, a dreamer) think about heaven and being able to just worship God for all eternity!  Think about how He's promised to you, your name will be Mrs.Britt Jesus.

I know that can sound cheesey, but when you have the HOly Ghost, it really does work.  Jesus will make you so happy, that the rest, though it may still be hard, will be less stressing.

I will tell you....it takes a lot of prayer to make it through public schooling, especially in high school. Yeah, you might not be able to play sports if you're homeschooled and whatnot and I wish sometimes I was homeschooled.  :cry2: I had some bad experiences in high school, some baggage that I am trying hard to drop off and move on. I was abused in high school (in a simple summary) by students and teachers, and after those situations occurred, I practically made myself an outcast (sitting alone during lunch period, not participating in any functions - in class I would be force to participate in a group project, having to isolate myself in Special Education for most of my school day).

I guess it didn't last all though high school. My junior year of high school was when school kids wanted to be my friends, regardless of what they did. Most of them I might not be able to talk to ever again (unless I can get to Bakersfield, CA or Sydney, AUS), and some I might run into at our Class of 2005 fifth-year reunion in less than 2 1/2 years. Two of my classmates I will never see again are deceased (sadly, a non-alcoholic-related car crash and a suicide)

Sadly, after all that, I still can't exactly function as a decent person in public. I can't even figure out how to clean my apartment that I will have lived in for about a year (in November) - never taught how to do that. I still require weekly counseling - my pastor and a licensed counselor -  as much as twice a week. Colleges I have attended won't put me in a special needs program because I have ADD & ADHD. I have flunked out of one and was dropped w/o suspension at the other, because no one would help.

It still requires a lot of prayer to go into public schools. Our church academy closed until further notice - hence, last year we only had two students. 2005: nine. - and all of our youth group are in public schools.

I actually found college to be easier myself because I could plug into my own little group - which in my case was intervarsity- and be accepted.  There also seemed to be more acceptance of varying religious ideas in college.

moons since I attended high school, but you can make it.

I did and if I can, anyone can.

I remember my Junior and Senior  High School days.... race riots, cops patrolling the halls, armed cops at the football and basketball games, fights everywhere you turn around, drugs - you couldn't use the bathroom because people were smoking pot in there and you could get high just off the second hand pot smoke.

Kids carrying handguns, knives and chains - one boy even had  hand grenade in his trunk !

Kids I went to school with were murdered and some died in drug or booze related car accidents. One young man was in prison within 2 years after high school for mass murder.

Through it all - you can make it and you can survive.

Band, school paper, prayer and bible clubs, find something fun to do, join an afterschool club, junior achievement, 4 H something. Make it fun - that is the key.

I must be crazy. I loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved loved public school. :)

Attitudes make the difference - by a LONG shot. If you think EVERY morning when you get "ugh another day at school? This stinks!!" or something of that variety, you'll hate every day. You'll have a specific mindset and you'll never really get out of the experience what you NEED to get out of it.

This is an incredible time of your life. ENJOY IT! I miss it.. (I'm only 4.5 years removed from high school, mind you, haha.)

Dive in to activities that you're offered, take the chance to get involved! Be SUPER involved in church and its activities. Invite your friends from school! You can't sit around waiting for other people to witness to them and win them to God. They're YOUR friends. Win 'em! :)

Seriously. DON'T put yourself in a position to look back on the experience and think, 'Man, I wish I'd been more involved.' I know that's the ONE major regret I allow myself, because I try to make sure I don't ever make that mistake again (like now in college). It's such an opportunity to really challenge yourself with the various organizations, such a variety of individuals, etc. AH! I love it.. I need to get into marketing for something like this. Passion. :) Don't lack passion.

I learned to love it.

I wanted to be in a Christian school so badly (and I'm teaching at one now) but a teacher pointed out that I needed to focus on making a difference in my school THEN.

I was bullied a lot up until Freshman year when I got put in a special block program with all the other college prep kids.   It helped.

But when I counseled one of the popular girls through a depressive spell and everyone found out things changed.

I wasn't popular.    But I learned to love my school and to pray for my classmates.   I found activities that I enjoyed (Band, academic teams, writing) and found people that enjoyed them too.

That preps you for college.   :)

Jake -- PM me and let me find you the info on a place called Landmark College -- I have ADD too and have heard good things about them.

I loved high school. Your school sounds alot like my school.. I pretty much was a loner because my old friends got into really bad stuff.
You know though, I had people come up to me all the time and say theres something differant about you.. why do you wear skirts everyday? can I come to your church.. Lots of doors got opened up. Just keep holding on to the faith pray that  God will protect you every morning before you go to school, and if u have to lose your friends so you don't get sucked into the bad stuff..

I have to agree with the above statment posed by one of our fellow Godplace members. I attend public schools my whole life. I was made fun of , picked on , and even physically beat up sometimes by other kids who thought there were better than me. I was so sick and tired of all the abuse I was getting in school that I just kept thinking in my mind that they beat Jesus and abused him , and I am no better than Jesus so I let them keep abusing me for awhile. Then one day I finally stood up to them and stood my ground and I told them which probally wasnt to smart  that they will have to anserw to the powerful Lord Jesus. and they left me alone. And I would have to defintly say that alot of the kids in school that abused and made fun of me are now wanting to be my friends and are asking me alot about God. So hang in there Britt I know its hard but God is always with you and remember that they who abuse and pick on you will be questioned by our Lord Jesus.

Hey!I"m new in this chat room,my name's Vee.I'm from Zimbabwe(please tell me you know where that is!)...I saw your question on how you survive high school.Well, from experience,it can be really hard, but i figured that a lot of it depends on who you choose to be,who you want to become and who you hang around with...If you choose to be someone who's not going to go with the flow and who's going to be the "light of the world",then at least you have a goal to work toward everyday, and if you make a conscious effort then you'll be fine.Who you hang around with determines what kind of things you get interested/involved in,so try get friends that have the same interests as you so you're not pulled into what everyone else is doing...hope this helps, and I"d really like to hear from you.Be blessed... :waving:

I managed to make it thru years of being a home missions pk (since 1994), going all the way through the public school system, and my first time thru college when I got my associates with out backsliding.  It wasn't until my 2nd time in college that I left the Apostolic faith.  looking back I'd be the first to tell you it was because of what influences I chose to allow in my life that led me to the point of leaving the Apostolic faith.

Saw this thread on the "who's online" and this thought occured to me...

What you set your heart on doing is what you'll find ways to do.  If your heart is set on staying in church and living the life it won't matter so much what others think cause you'll be looking for ways to stay in church.  On the other hand if your heart is towards abandoning the apostolic way of life, you might keep the facade for a while but the truth of where your heart is will eventually come out.
