As I get ready to go off to Bible College I have been thinking an I would like to ask all you that have attend a Bible College "What Contribution did Christian Education make on you life?" I just want to get everyones view and maybe hear some stories from when you were in Bible College.
Back when I went to Bible College, I remember when Professer Moses would go on a rampage and get mad at at of our complaining and sometimes he would slam the textbooks down and it would destroy them. Then the Principal would get mad and send him on a probation period for over a month, and when he came back, he would just have more rules and things....UGH....that class seemed to last 40 years!
:hypocrite:
I went to Kent Christian for a while. It closed the year I left. So sad, I loved Sis. Dawn Schnur so much. She was amazing!!!
I didn't stay there that long, so I really can't think of what kind of contribution it made in my life. BUT, I do know this, that if I had the chance to go back to Bible School, I would jump at the chance.

:spitlaugh: Mel, you're a riot! But somehow I don't think that will be overly helpful. ;)
Justin, I've only taken correspondence courses from a Bible school, not stayed on campus, so I'm probably no help. But.... please PM me your address when you get settled in Indiana. I might get motivated to send you a package or two. *smile*
:beret:

I was gonna make a comment here about your lack of motivation on sending packages, but I will refrain....

*ahem* Did it, or did it not arrive?
LOL
:beret:
Yeah...after how long?
*cough*
Nevermind.

Personally I see no purpose or use for Bible college unless its actually an accredited school. None of the Oneness Pentecostal colleges that I know of are truely accredited.
My brother did 2 years in Bible college and the contribution it made to his life was bitterness and causing him to quit church.

I am sorry that you feel that way. I don't care if its accredited or not cause i am going in to the ministry. An as long as i do what God wants me to do he will take me far beyond what any accredited degree could ever take me..... The reason why none of the colleges are not accredited is cause we wont give in to the world and teach trinity.
Its seems like to me your brother was not in it for the right reason, or he is just trying to find something to blame for him blacksliding. Bible college did not cause the bitterness in him... He let the devil distract him and pull him away from God... It has nothing to do with the College it has to do with the person and their relationship with God.
I agree!
I do NOT believe that bitterness can be caused by simply "attending" a bible college.
Bitterness comes in a sequence of events and emotions. By people that might have hurt you, or situations that might have hurt you, and you not letting hte Lord handle and heal like he should have- cus if you did- you wouldnt have any bitterness!
Bitterness is scary- its one of the worst things you could possibly have- seriously it can really eat you alive.

My brothers experience in bible college is one of the reasons I've become very anti bible college. For a time after I graduated from high school I wanted to do a year at a Bible college. My other reason for becomming anti Bible college I won't get into here.
bible college has had a profound affect upon my son's life. he knows more about people and God and ministry and music and life than he could have at any other school. he also learned a lot about religion. and the difference between being a follower of Christ and a religious person.
time will tell what he lasting impact is, but i can already tell you it was the best decision for him.
besides the friendships he formed and the traveling he was able to be a part of.
it's very expensive and it may not "count" in some circles, but i think if God asks you to go to bible school, then you ought to. if your parents or pastor or friends ask you, you may not have the same experience.
just my mother's view . . . .
and for the record, bitterness and disillusionment in one's denomination has nothing to do with bible school. it's an inner matter.

Well you can't let someone else experience make you that judgemental about it cause you haven't been there for your self....
Thats like saying i don't believe in God cause my brother used to but don't know, so i don't.. You can't live by someone else experience... You have to experience it for yourself.
I am sorry you just can't do that!
Bible college was the best three years of my life. I walked away with experiences, both in and out of the classroom, that developed me as a person, and as a minister. I I wouldn't trade that time for anything in this world.
If bible college makes people backslide, then secular education makes people walk away from God even more. I've seen countless young people go to secular college one way, and come back doubting their faith. My own brother backslid due in part, in my assessment, to time spent at a secular college.
Accreditation isn't a big deal, so don't get your shorts all up in a bunch over your school not having a stamp of approval from a secular institution. Don't worry about them; they're irrelevant.
QuoteThe reason why none of the colleges are not accredited is cause we wont give in to the world and teach trinity.
I hate to break it to you, but our doctrinal beliefs don't play any role in why the colleges aren't accredited...it takes a lot of money and qualifications in order to receive accreditation. Our Bible colleges just don't cut the mustard.
When I was there, IBC was working towards accreditation. However, they still had quite a way to go.
There is a new college in Michigan that is accredited. Forgot the name, but Stevebert applied to them. They didn't have the funds to meet his $$ requirement.

Gateway is also working towards accreditation......... if i am not mistaken thy want to be by 2010 that is if i am not mistaken........Newkris may be able to answer that question better than me because her son go's to Gateway.
Why should a bible college seek accreditation? That's not to say that the academic standards and expectations shouldn't be comparable to a secular college, but what is core purpose of a bible college? Isn't it to prepare men and women for service in the ministry? Or is it to issue degrees that are equal to those issued by secular colleges? I'm not so convinced that accreditation is something that bible schools should actively pursue.

Your right cause folks in all kinds of situations far worse than what we'd see in any college still choose to serve God. My brother does seem to be doing better with it. He's kinda like I am right now feeling like he doesn't have a church to really call home and be involved in more than just attending services.
I did want to go to bible college and in some ways still would like to go to bible college. I'm not sure a upci bible college would be the best place for me because I do have issues with some of what I perceive as being promoted by upci bible colleges.

Might be. I just wonder if we're setting the younger ministers up for an image that they won't be able to keep up with. The hair issue is more personal because I can't wear mine up with out getting a really bad headache.
I saw, and continue to see, a trend in young ministers; many seem to be more interested in getting a crowd excited by their catchy phrases and clever titles than seeking the face of God for what He would say in a particular service. Preaching for performance and response more than preaching because you're called to speak the words of God. Very saddening...
is it taught at bible school for ministers wives to wear their hair up ?

This is sad yet very very true of much of today's ministry. Very few today would be willinng to go through what the apostles and other early church ministers went through for the sake of preaching the gospel.
