Thursday November 30
The Wiggles have sadly announced today that Greg Page, also known as the Yellow Wiggle, is unable to continue performing with The Wiggles due to a chronic condition and has reached the decision to leave the group.
Greg has been suffering symptoms for many months, affecting his ability to perform. The condition is related to blood pressure and while in no way life threatening it affects his balance, breathing and coordination at unpredictable times and with varying severity. Greg has discovered he is genetically predisposed to this condition and that he now needs to focus on managing his health.
Greg is a founding member of The Wiggles and has devoted 15 years to the group. The whole band, crew, and all Wiggles staff, have expressed their sadness and their wishes for Greg to overcome his health problems.
The Wiggles this year have continued their worldwide success, just completing a tour of the US, and have announced Greg's replacement with his understudy Sam Moran to ensure the continued future of one of Australia's most successful entertainment troupes.
"This emotional decision was one which was very difficult, as I have dedicated almost half my life to the Wiggles, and with a question mark over my health, I feel that this is the right decision. I will miss The Wiggles and the other guys very much, as well as seeing all the children in the audiences that we perform in front of. I wish the guys continued success, and welcome Sam Moran with open arms to the Yellow Skivvy – I know he is a great performer, and is well equipped to be the Yellow Wiggle," Greg said.
Sam has been performing with The Wiggles for the past nine years and as understudy has performed over 150 shows as the Yellow Wiggle. Educated at the Conservatorium of Music, Sam has been a Wiggly dancer, Wiggly band member and will be a wonderful addition to the group.
Murray Cook (Red Wiggle) said, "I know I speak for all The Wiggles and our staff in expressing our sadness at Greg's leaving. The four of us started from humble beginnings 15 years ago and we've been through many adventures together. We will miss Greg as a superb singer, performer and songwriter but mostly we'll miss him on the road as a friend and ally. We wish him well in dealing with his illness and in future."
"We welcome Sam in his place in the Wiggles. We know first hand that he is an extremely talented performer and is already well-loved by our Wiggly audience".
The Wiggles will continue to tour the world, record and film new DVDs with Sam Moran as the new Yellow Wiggle.

MEDICAL CONDITION BACKGROUND
Greg Page is afflicted with a condition known as orthostatic intolerance. Put simply, it means that when Greg stands up, his heart does not compensate for the change in posture by pumping more blood around his body for it to function properly. A similar problem occurs when there is a change in the environment such as a warm room or hot weather.
This condition is causing problems with his walking, balance, speech and coordination. It relates to the proper functioning of the autonomic nervous system, which is the way the human body regulates things we don't consciously have to think about such as heart beat and temperature regulation.
As many as 30,000 people in Australia suffer orthostatic intolerance at varying levels of severity. The condition is notoriously difficult to diagnose. Greg is currently suffering a severe and chronic case but episodes, specialists now believe, date back some 12 years. At that time, testing was inconclusive, because the symptoms were mild to moderate, sporadic, and could have been attributed to a number of causes. All major organs in his body were functioning properly, so there was no further testing done. It is possible that his most recent bouts of illness with two hernias (prior to Oct 05) brought on the orthostatic intolerance with increased severity.
There is no diagnosis of the cause for this condition in Greg's case yet. It is clear, from extensive testing, that his heart is perfect and functioning normally, however his brain is not communicating properly with his heart and, from time to time, in unpredictable circumstances, results in the onset of symptoms.
Greg is still seeking further prognosis and advice on how to manage his condition from specialists. Although it is not life threatening, it is also not likely to be cured so will require careful management to keep it under control. Stepping back from the very strenuous live performance demands of being part of the Wiggles is now his only option.
"Although orthostatic intolerance is not uncommon in the world population, its symptoms can be mild enough to remain undetected or extremely difficult to diagnose, or it can be dormant for a long time and brought on spontaneously by a trigger, sometimes something seemingly trivial, as it seems likely could be in Greg's case, or it could be the two hernias that he had last year."
"Then the symptoms can become chronic and incapacitate normally healthy active people to an enormous, and highly unpredictable, degree. Greg is fortunate he is not at the fully disabled extreme of the condition, but he is currently suffering a level of the condition that requires considerable further assessment and development of a plan to manage the condition, as it is not likely to be cured, but we expect we can minimise the impact on his life in the future," said Associate Professor John Watson, Neurologist.
Orthostatic intolerance
The symptoms for this condition may include the following:
• Excessive Fatigue
• Exercise Intolerance
• Nausea
• Tachycardia
• Palpitations
• Tremulousness
• Weakness - most noticeable in the legs
• Chest Discomfort
• Shortness of Breath
• Migraines and Other Headaches
• Gastrointestinal Problems
awww, that's sad. It will be interesting how the Wiggles do after this. Often times things like this die out. :-\
Please Lord, let it be so! lol
Jeremy and i actually enjoy watching most of the wiggles stuff with our kids. They're funny if you just sit and watch.

You're just jealous they didn't choose you to be the replacement Wiggle.
:laughhard:
Awww thats sad. I am not a huge fan of the wiggles, but I can handle them in small doses.
They all strike me as just a little too...wiggly. :-?
I liked one song they had with the native chick singing, but other than that...
I like the wiggles ;)
It's probably good (for him) that he's "retired" now though because there've been cases where he's collapsed in the middle of a show because of this condition... I think they can go on just as well with the new yellow wiggle!! I haven't seen him - but he's ALREADY been performing with them for 9 years as an understudy, so he's well prepared for the job!!
At the moment, (or soon anyway), they're touring the US with Bindi Irwin - Steve Irwin's young daughter... Had you guys heard that yet??
He's also played other characters on some of the wiggles videos. He's professor singalottasong and Alfonso and someone else I think too. I think he'll do good, it'll just take some time getting used to seeing him in the yellow shirt.
I know - I was watching a clip on youtube with him, and you could just tell that he wasn't the "normal" wiggle...
Here's the clip if you want to see... it's not a "wiggles" video - it's a Carols by Candlelight and it's the big finale when EVERYONE'S singing together, but there's lots of "Wiggles" shots in there...

i have never watched them but my father in law loves watching them with the girls... lol ....ill have to make sure and tell him !
Nic, can you tell me for sure that these guys ain't fruity?
I hate to be so blunt, but when my kids started watching those videos, the first thing that popped in to my mind was that they were pretty much all flamers. Every red-blooded male I know said pretty much the same thing:
"Dude, these guys act like poofters."
I've watched all their videos with my kids at one time or another, and if they ain't fags, I'll eat my hat.
If that's what someone wants to do, fine, it ain't my business.
But my kids ain't gonna be indoctrinated by some fruitcake-looking dudes prancing around onstage.
*end mini-rant*
They are married wtih families. Good grief. Just because guys are good with kids doesn't make them gay :-?

My thoughts exactly! :thumbsup2:
Oh come on, Chris....tell us how you really feel, don't hold back. :P
Josh also thought they were gay until he actually watched one and he said he could tell that they weren't. :smirk:
QuoteJust because guys are good with kids doesn't make them gay
Uhhh...the married with families thing? I know of quite a few gay men that are and/or were married with kids.
I also know quite a few men that are very good with kids that don't prance around acting swish.
QuoteJosh also thought they were gay until he actually watched one and he said he could tell that they weren't.
Then they should fire their choreographer lol
My husband said he never thought they looked gay and he can't understand why anyone would think they are.
I've never thought that they looked gay either - and they are all married with kids - I don't understand why some people think they look gay!?!?! They're just silly is all!!
Yeth...Thilly lol
lol - now you've gone and made MY post sound gay!! :-P
But...but HOW? You're married!
lol ;)
Oooooo.....zing.
well i watched "The Wiggles" for the first time this weekend, and i dont think theyre gay..theyre great with kids and just want to use their talents to help the children of this world.....
my husband acts like that with our kids at home, and i guarantee you he has no homosexual inclinations. the only reason he wouldn't do the same for other kids in a public setting is because he's shy & doesn't like crowds or being the center of attention. i think the wiggles are pretty cool for kids, but i can't take it for extended amounts of time :biglaugh: when the kids bust out the wiggles video, i go to another room if they wanna watch it more than once.
I can't wait to hear Barney retires
That will be great news
Then Baby Bop will take over the show.... :freaky:
that will be bad too
ummm yeah.... i can't put my finger on it, but there's something not quite right about Barney :smirk:
I know
Are you implying that barney is gay?
not saying that
just hes not got a elevater going all the way to the top floor
yeah, one or both of those
lolol :laughhard:
"He's just good with kids."
:P
heres a somg my 13 year old son sings
:sing:
i hate you
you hate me
lets chase barney up a tree
shoot him with a 44
no more purple dinosaur
this is the version i've always heard:
i hate you
you hate me
let's hang barney from a tree
with a 9mm and a bullet in his head
aren't you glad that barney's dead
I was very sorry to hear about Greg having to leave the Wiggles. My kids were, and still are, big fans of the Wiggles.
And in a Childrens-shows world filled with the likes of "Witches", "Rug Rats", "Bratz", and other such tripe, such a family friendly and wholesome show like "the Wiggles" will be sorely missed.
:wah2:
He's just being replaced, they're not all leaving. :o

You're right! It does say that!.
:o
I am shocked! I can't think of even one of the original Wiggles that could actually be "replaced" (not successfully, anyways).
Ya know, that :o smiley looks just like your Don Knotts avatar.

*ROFL*
So it does, brother. So it does.
:biglaugh:
maybe barney could be the next wiggle lol
No, please no! I can NOT tolerate barney!
We've watched a lot of Wiggles Christmas videos over the past couple of weeks. I love them because among the santa songs and other christmas stuff, the have plenty of songs about Jesus and the true meaning of christmas. I think that is great. So many entertainers won't do that anymore.

Thats the reason I love the Peanuts (Charlie Brown) shows bc they focus on the REAL meaning of Christmas, Thanksgiving,etc....
Just thought of the perfect new wiggle with his dance moves
How about Seh
Seen his dancing on merry christmas seth thread
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
might be somthing there
My Neice and Nephew LOVE the Wiggles, and so do I. I was saddend to hear that Greg has to leave, and I am curious to see what this other guy is gonna be like. I have been to a Wiggles concert, and BY FAR it was one of the best shows I have ever been to.....
On another note....my brother is a HUGE Homophobe....he simply cannot stand ANYTHING if he thinks it has ANYTHING to do with being Gay...he wont talk to anyone who even looks Gay.......he LOVES the Wiggles, and at first he thought they acted "fruity" but since he has actually watched them, he realizes that they are just Dads playing with kids...just like him, and on any given night of the week, you will find my brother in his kids bedroom acting like the Wiggles and singing their songs. He also went to the concert with me...we drove 3 hours and took the kids....ALSO, there is a little girl in our church who has Downs, and she LOVES the Wiggles. For her 16th Birthday last year, they threw her a Wiggles party and the whole church was invited. My Brother and several guys played the parts of the Wiggles, complete with singing "Hot Potato" and "Yummy, yummy" It was a blast!! They bought her a Golf cart painted red, and had the "Big Red Car" Logo on the front...(she turned 16...get it?) It was awesome!! My brother would have NEVER been a part of that if he thought that they were Gay. And he thinks EVERYONE is Gay, even people who are not. LOL
that is really cute about the car :biglaugh:
I would love to take my boys to a wiggles concert. I check their concert schedule all the time. But Jeremy about passed out when i told him how much the tickets are, haha.
It was 35 dollars, but it was worth it!
awww thats soooo sweet about the car! i want to take emma to some concerts, plays, etc...when she gets older! i cant wait, bc as of now, she LOVES the wiggles! also, Ryan is super wierd about Gays, if he thinks someones gay, it makes him sick lol and Ryan LOVES to sit and watch The Wiggles with Emma!
I bought my girls an Audio CD of wiggle's songs today and they already have it about memorized!! Their favorite song is "wake up Jeff".....it's hilarious to listen to them laugh!!! funny funny funny!!!
I like the cd too...although my kids absolutely LOVE it!!
sharon
Emma has 6 of the Wiggles Movies now and she LOVES them! She screams "widdles" and starts dancing when she hears them! Its GREAT!

the way my sisters boys sing it even worse... lol.
I have yet to see "Singallottasonga" as the new Greg...I wish they would hurry and show that.
But of course, Emily and Jeremy have DVDs that they watch, and thats all the Wiggles I see is the ones they already have...so I dont get much variety.
Does anyone know if there are any new DVDs out that have him on there? I may have to look into that and get the kids a new one, just so I can watch it.
This thread isn't dead yet?
and worse, it appears the Wiggles aren't either. :-?
Google "gay wiggles" and see what you get.
Wow! Lots of responses for a group that *isn't*, right? Even the homos think they're gay.
My point? Any bunch of people that generates that much discussion about whether they're gay...there has to be a reason. OK, so maybe they're not flamers.
"Shun the very appearance of evil".
this thread is still goin...omw

My understanding is that they are all college graduates who are married and have children, and that they got together to create a show that their own children would enjoy.
..... the truth is that anyone trying to entertain children is going to seem a little "gay" to most adults that look in. That's because the kind of behaviour that truly entertains children seems very stupid, silly, or "gay" to the rest of us.
Has anyone really looked in on their behaviour when they are NOT in the process of entertaining children??

*shakes head*
What's our legal system coming to these days?
i agree jd
Why in the world would this thread be pinned?
Surely there was a legitimate reason at some point.
Because it was important?
Very important! Lol! I'm still saddened by the fact Greg left. I saw an episode recently with the new guy and it's just not the same.
I have to say I missed the Wiggles era. I however have seen quite a bit of the Backyardigans with the boys.
I've never figures out why this was pinned. Keeping with the topic though, i think all but one wiggle has now been replaced. Greg came back for a little while for a farewell tour or something, then they all left. Even though my kids have outgrown them i still get email updates from the wiggle fan club....i really need to unsubscribe from that...
