ok...we've decided to get married april 15 [yes i know it's tax day]. with less than 4 months to go does ANYONE have any advice for me to help me plan this shindig?
give me something to go on...... colors, style, number of people, etc.
Elope! Its cheaper and quicker. But alas, im a lone voice! LOL
Tulle is cheap to buy, and goes a loooooong way in decorating. :thumbsup2:
we are going fairly simple. going to browse for a dress this weekend. a little over a hundred people [over half being people from church]. after service on sunday.already have a lady to do my cake.
There's still time to back out and save your time and money.
:hypocrite:
 I don't think she'll find that suggestion overly helpful, Chseeads. *L*

*sigh* I love tulle. You just can't have too much of it!
At wal-mart they sell this shimmery tulle....I got some to use for decorating in our christmas banquet!!
sharon
I agree with the Tulle. And... especially right after Christmas when all the Christmas stuff is marked down get some white ice cycle lights! They look beautiful with the Tulle!
I had my Mother In Law make my dress. We got the pattern at Wal-Mart. Some of the material I bought at JoAnn Fabrics. And some of it I bought at Wal-Mart. If you know someone who is a good seamstress I would definately say that's the way to go! Saves a lot of money!
Money saving on the reception... I had a pot luck type reception. All the women in my church made the food. It was delicious and they were all thrilled to be able to have a part in helping with the wedding!
Invitations: We bought an invitation kit at Wal-Mart. Very cheap. And just ran em through our printer. In my opinion they looked very professional. They had several styles to choose from! We were very pleased/excited with how nice they turned out!
I have a ton more I could share but how about some specifics first. Like What Colors? Do you have someone in charge of the decorating? Will you be using fake flowers (WAY Cheaper and they can still look very elegant) How many are in the wedding party? Do you have a theme or specific style you are going for?
here are some pictures from the christmas banquet that I just did! Of course our theme was winter wonderland...but maybe you could look and see...

We did place settings for about 70 people...and kept the cost to around $200. I wanted to do a balloon arch, but the ceiling was too low...so keep that in mind if you're thinking about something like that...
Helium balloon "boquets" also look very pretty as centerpieces!! We've also used candles as fairly cheap decorating methods before....

I haven't tried using the icicle lights, but when my best friend got married we wrapped white light strings in tulle and made garlands that hung from the pews on the inside aisle. It turned out gorgeous! If you try that make sure to get the lights on a
white cord. The dark cords ar impossible to hide in sheer tulle. :thumbsup2:
(Ask Titushome if you want to see a picture of how it turned out).

right now i'm planning so far to either rent a dress or have my grandpa's seamstress woman [they aren't married but have been together as long as i remember] make me a dress and i think i've talked matt into just buying a nice suit [he needs one anyways]. for the maid of honor and bridesmaids [3 all together] i've suggested just wear black and blue [the wedding colors]. so far we've decided on a kinda bright royal blue. the best man and groomsmen i believe are just wearing black suits as well [being apostolics...well they have nice suits  ]. haven't gotten as far as flowers yet. looking into doing my own invitations. have definitly thought about having the ladies from church do the food. we discussed that they would honestly be almost offened if we didn't ask for their help. lol.
Fake flowers are not ALWAYS cheaper than real flowers. I had bought fake flowers and they had a major mishap at my sister in laws house so I had to go out like a month before my wedding and see if I could get flowers. So I just went in a flower shop and she told me she could do bouquets out of lillys instead of roses and they were REALLY cheap and REALLY beautiful. SO ya never know just check around and see whats the most affordable.
AMEN to that one......
Do you have any friends in the florist business who like you? I have a friend from yearrssssss ago...who did fresh flowers for my wedding and did them at cost. I got about $700 worth of flowers for $100!!! The doctors I used to work for couldn't believe it!! I said it's gooood to have friends  I had a gorgeous red and white rose bouquet and a smaller version of the bouquet for my sister (maid of honor)
My husband also wore a Suit!!
I bought my sister a nice red suit from chadwicks and then gave it to her as her gift (so I killed 2 birds with 1 stone so to speak).
My wedding was VERY small and we had it at a bed and breakfast. We had 41 guests and served the cake and punch ourselves and I had a FABULOUS time!!!! I remember everyone there and it's been 5 years ago!

I found some pics of my bouquet......

Oooh, I love weddings!
You can do a wedding as simple or elegant as you want for cheap! We probably didn't spend more than 1500.00 on our wedding and we had everything we wanted! I would recommend purchasing a dress rather than making one, it actually can be cheaper. I bought mine off of a clearance rack at the end of the season for about 200.00, cheaper than what I would have paid for material and lace to make one. I had my great aunt, a seamstress, make my bridesmaids dresses for like $20 from a pattern and they looked professional. I used fake flowers and got them like 1/2 off at Hobby Lobby (the best place for deals).
If you are having a sit down meal, here are a few ideas for place settings. I did these for a Mother/Daughter tea we had where we had to decorate the tables ourselves, it turned out to look like a wedding. lol.
Floating candles always are pretty and I just used tissue paper for the place mat. You could just do paper plates if you wanted and the napkins are just a decorative fold with some fake flowers stuck in them.
WOW!!!!!!!!
I LOVE those pictures!!!!!
someday someday someday................(our church being able to do that kind of thing).....
sharon
With the material and pattern altogether my dress ending up costing $65
i'm look at either fake or real flowers. my sisters best friends mom [yes kinda confusing] is a florist at a local store. so gonna talk to her if not gonna poss go with fakes. i was thinking fake ones though bc i could keep them as a kinda memory token. my cousin has emailed me tons of ideas for cheap decor and gifts. she's all about DIY. i really like the idea with the white lights though. gonna look into finding some maybe on clearance after christmas. i have loved all of your pictures. and thank you so much for the advice thus far. definitly keep me in your prayers as i prepare for this day.
Definitely look for lights after the holidays. I bought about 30 boxes of white lights (just to have on hand) from JoAnn's at an after Christmas sale; they ended up being like $.13 each! Aside from that, I recommend looking for coupons for things like tulle. I worked at JoAnn's, and people would bring their coupons in and buy bolts of tulle for 1/2 price - a very good deal! :)
OK, no one has probably mentioned this because they know the idea would not be taken seriously but it IS an option to have a wonderful wedding! And cheap -and hassle free to boot!

Randywayne,
My 4 year old daughter walked up and said "who is that" I told her I don't know...just some people....and then she says..."GUYS are NOT princesses!!! " I about fell over laughing....she seen the pic with your wife's veil!!! It was tooo cute!!
sharon
I'm so.... I'm so.... so... hurt! :cry2:
Actually, we had a month engagement ourselves and ended up with the perfect wedding. :)
One of the only details that needed attending too was my wife picking out her dress (a modified prom-dress for a couple hundred bucks), then choosing the length of the service. We could have the "long" version at 11 minutes or the short version at 7! LOL
Another nice thing about having a vacation wedding is that you can invite anyone and everyone! If they are able to come, great! If not, no biggie since it IS out of state.
the only issue with that is #1 we are on the other side of the US with one bad car my getting airsick. lol. #2 i don't want to hurt our church or our mutual families feelings. thanks for the suggestion though!
We had a wedding with 200 people in attendance and 6 attendants on each side for right around $1500.
I bought my dress on Ebay. (Shut UP Seth) I went to a bridal shop and tried dresses on to see what style I liked and what size I needed and then I hit Ebay. I paid I think $135 for my dress. Borrowed the headpiece and had my seamstress add the veil that I purchased for cheap at walmart. My shoes were from Sears! My bridesmaids dresses were from the clearance racks at Dillards for $35/each. My Jr Bride's dress also came from Ebay and was $30. The flower girl already had her dress... I think it had been her Christmas dress that year.
You said you already have someone doing your cake but the way I saved money on the cake was to have the baker decorate foam forms and then we served sheet cakes. It kept the cake beautiful through the entire reception and made serving the cake easier.
I had fake flowers that I got on sale and used coupons at Hobby Lobby. I NEEDED my flowers to be fake so that I could see them and approve them BEFORE the wedding day!! The only thing I didn't get a chance to see in advance was the bouttineires and I didn't like them! ugh
I agree on the tulle and lights... lots of tulle and white lights!! Cheap easy and beautiful!! Also for the reception balloons and candles are the way to go!!
Here are a couple pics:

Those are great photos! And it shows that you can spend $1500 on a NICE wedding or $6000 on one that looks like it was thrown together.
The cost of weddings, and especially the receptions afterward, are really getting ridiculas. My cousin and a beautiful outdoor wedding at a museum just North of Chicago. The entire tab came to nearly 30 grand. The went on a 1 1/2 week honeymoon but were not able to go to Hawaii, their dream destination. I kept thinking "they were not able to shave a few thousand dollars and STILL have a great wedding AND their dream honeymoon?".
It reminds me of an episode of the Bob Newhart show where Bobs wife Emily goes all out one birthday and buys Bob an 1800 dollar watch. Of course Bob becomes all distraught when he finds out how much it is and tells Emily "$1800 isn't... isn't... a watch. It's more like a piano... AND a watch."
I think my husband and I paid around $700 for our Whole wedding!!! and it was elegant yet simple....
We were scheduled to go to Colorado Springs on the honeymoon, but we got married 4 days after Sept 11, 2001....so Colorado springs was completely shut down!! We instead went to Eureka Springs ARkansas and branson MO...and had a FABULOUS time!!! It was the FIRST time my hubby ever rode a roller coaster in his life!!!!! We've been back to Branson Twice since we've been married....
I can not imagine spending soooooo much on a wedding....but hey, to each their own!!
sharon
The average American wedding and reception, according to bridal sources like theknot.com, costs about $30,000. But that's nothing, right? *cough*choke* Recently a pastor I know paid upwards of $80,000 for his daughter's dream wedding. The cost included things like renovations to the church's platform and a ginormous (and hideous) gold dangly chandelier thing.
Yep - weddings can get ridiculous! *grin* Better to start planning ahead, like you're doing!
i've decided to do the invitation myself. going to look into crafty, cute way of doing them. also going to browse/try on wedding dresses this weekend with my mom and sister. also my cake lady came back in town yesterday...so that will be taken care of sometime this week.
oooh this is so exciting! :D*
I cannot even FATHOM spending 80,000 on a wedding!!!!!!!!!!!! choke choke....that is the cost of MORE than my house, car COMBINED!!!!
Sometimes I think I would be better off not knowing these things!!! ughhhhh
sharon
$$$ Weddings = "Bring on BRIDEZILLA!"
i think my wedding was around $1500.
Click on my webpage link thing to see pics of my wedding...
The ceremony was simple, we had it in a rose garden at the Botanic Gardens - so it was already decorated with real roses ;) We hired some chairs so that people could sit, and we borrowed a small PA system so that everyone could here. We also hired a string quartet who played the music for the ceremony...
All in all, I LOVED it!!
The reception, we just paid a reception place to do it all - decorating, food, etc... we bought the cake and had it decorated with real flowers that matched our bouquets... I bought my dress... we hired cars... we spent probably more than most people on here though - although by the "average", we were still MUCH less than that!!
I actually did our own DJing at the reception. It IS my 2nd job! (The reception was 3 months later in our back yard. A big rented tent, caterer.)
If we could do things different, we would have our reception at a big restaurant somewhere instead of our backyard. We did not save ANY money and spent weeks getting the yard and house ready.
The tent rental was almost 700 bucks. The caterer for 150 people was over a grand (but was very good WITH some of my own additions). And the beer/wine was a few hundred more -not that this would be an issue with most here. But hey, our wedding!
<sigh> A restaurant (a NICE one) would have been sooooooo much nicer!
here are a few from my friends wedding
the flowers were fake,. we used white lites and tulle

they walked out with "movin' on up"...it was funny...lol
Wow Mesi I love those colors together!
Ahhh - I just went to check our webpage and they closed it down when we switched ISPs!! How sad!! Now I don't have ANY wedding pics online!! I'll have to re-upload them somewhere else... :(
ty...it was a very beautiful wedding...idk how much it cost tho
My sister got married last year. Her wedding was outside at a state park...(you could rent it for $40 and hour). The reception was within walking distance of the wedding site. Her wedding was so cheap! My parents had a set amount of money they were giving and whatever wasnt used for the wedding, my sister and her fiance could have..so yeah, it was a cheap wedding that was absolutely gorgeous.

I really like it, Amber! If I ever get married, you can tell your sister that she's hired to do the decorating. :thumbsup2:
I much prefer simplistic elegance to the 'fluffy-frilly-foofy' stuff.

The cake was cupcakes! HOW cute!!!
I had a friend who had a cake made with cupcakes a couple of weeks ago. It was lovely.

yes, they wanted it to be informal. Everyone loved it and still talks about it. I think about 300 people attended.
The cupcake thing is perfect because people just walk up and grab a cupcake...no slicing and serving. You can order cupcake trees online somewhere...just search google. ;)
yeah, I've even seen them at Wal-mart (not that large of course, but they have them)
WOW!!!

ok after saying i was renting a dress....i have put one on layaway today. my parents are helping to pay for a good chunk of it. i'll post a pic once i get it on the computer from my sisters phone. it's strapless, but i have a black bollero on order at David's Bridal that is going with my valentine's banquet dress.
my dress, but of course mine is in white and will be worn with a black bolero jacket. on the back there are buttons that go from the top to the very end of the train.

Beautifu!!!!!!!!!l That style will look absolutely lovely with the bolero! Congrats!
thats similar to stefs...
she had the lacey thing made
the only bad thing with those is that they are sometimes too low
(http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c148/mesipie/dress.jpg)
why not wear a white satin (or velvet) ballero? they usually have them at bridal/formal stores, or you could get one made cheap.
i already had to order a black one for my banquet dress. also my bridesmaids are wearing black and blue. so it'll tie in with them in black.
I could totally see it w/ the black ballero... It'll almost make it a little bit chic-tuxedo-ish, too, I would think.
Sounds cute!!
I agree - I think it'll be tres chic. ;)
praise! my great aunt has volunteered her crafty self to do my invitations!!! woot!!
My dress was sleeveless but my mom sews so we got two of my wedding dress (it was being discontinued so I got both for about $500)!!
My mom raised the front and back and also added long sleeves....I think my complete wedding cost about $6000...we had a formal cartered sit down reception also within that cost

my wedding was very similar to julie's in style, but only cost about $2,000 (including my dress).... i didn't have a sit down reception though. i cut a LOT of corners on price by having people around the church help. i didn't have to pay the musicians or janitor cuz they both wanted their services to be my wedding gift. both my cakes were done as a gift from a lady at church who has done professional baking/cake decorating for many years. i used artificial flowers (really cheap due to big sales at Michael's and Hobby Lobby), and had a friend who used to be a florist help me & mom put it all together. my dress and veil were on "end of season" clearance, and being discontinued, so i got both for $600 (originally would have been $1,500). dress had to be altered, but a seamstress friend at church did it for $60. she also did the bride's maids' dresses for only $30 each (not included in total wedding cost because they paid for their own). my photographer was a guy from the church, and we just paid for the film and developing. the biggest expenses were my dress, renting the archway & candleabras/candles, invitations w/ postage (300... prior to all the neat do-it-yourself computer stuff), and developing the pictures.
anyway, if you know the right people, you can have a gorgeous and elaborate wedding for next to nothing ;)
Yeah, my dad's best friend did my flowers and also decorated....we also had the wedding videoed professionally so that was some of the cost as well....
mine was video'd too, but included in the church fee.... normally $60 for building, video, minister, coordinator, and janitor; i only had to pay $40. that was in our old building though.... i'm not sure if they've increased the fees any since we got into the new building (much bigger and nicer).
I had a professional crew come in for the video...alot of my husband's family could not make it for the wedding (including his wonderful grandparents..theirs due to health) so we wanted it to be nicely done. The crew came 3 hours before the wedding and filmed us getting ready separately and also during the ceremony had one camera in back and one in front. It was the greatest thing I could have done because like alot of brides I did not remember much of the wedding day..lol...so busy. It's a wonderful treasure to have. We have it on 4 dvds and 2 vhs....and also one in a safety box at the bank for keeping.
:great: outside of a couple of big extras you had julie, our weddings probably cost about the same ;)
how tall r u julie?
I am 5 ft 2 inches...so short
lol
hey! it's not that short :P
you're the exact same height as me :teeth:
Yep ........you're short!!! LOLOL
j/k
I am 5.4" and I thought that was short!
sharon
I meant 5 foot 4 inches.........I can see SOME SMART ALECK commenting on the fact that I am 5.4 inches!! LOLOL
sharon
LOL....I wore 3 1/2 inch heels on my wedding day....we could not cut off any more of the bottom of the dress...lol
3 1/2 inches...and u still look so tiny...lol
Don't feel so bad, I'm only 4'11. I wanted so bad to wear ballet slippers when I got married, but since Sam is 5'10, I had to wear heels. I look like I'm his kid sister when I have flat soled shoes on. It's even funnier now that I'm 9 months preggo. lol.
I am right about 5'10!! Josh is 6'3 though so we're good! LOL I wore 4" heels during the ceremony and changed into ballet flats during the reception.
I'm 5'4 and David is 5'6 :)* lol.
me and matt are right around 5.8 . i want so badly to wear flip flops, but my dress is a bit too long. so i'm going to look for kittin heals.
flip flops with a wedding dress?? hmmmmmmmm
sharon
If you can't see the shoes, i say wear whatever is the most comfortable!
Did you guys wear a larger size in wedding dresses? I'm helping one of my friends buy her wedding dress. She lives in Africa so she is most likely going to order it from somewhere here in the states.
Alot of people I know lately have been wearing the flip flops with their wedding dress. They sell some really cute white wedding flip flops at David's bridal.
LOL...........ok whatever floats your boat!!! that's just craziness to me!! LOL
sharon
lol...my friend that just got married went barefoot...shje bought some cute wedding shoes, really classy, but shes just a country girl...and barefoot fit her better..lol
It makes sense to me. After all, you'll be on your feet for a good two hours probably. I say forget the heels! :)
:beret:
lol. I wore stilletos and still regret it. Oooh the pain!
My wedding shoes were actually quite comfortable!! They were kinda stilleto-ish, but they weren't THAT high - I was walking around all day and my feet weren't even that sore!!

If I remember correctly, you go up a size in wedding dresses.
i just wish the bridesmaids woulda been barefoot
My feet did not hurt me at all..but then I do wear heels all the time...I am so short!!
i wear heels alot...but i just dont like standing still in them...and they were a little higher than normal...and i was still shorter than all the others
i may do kittin heels, but flip flops once the ceremony is over. we went to talk to the lady about flowers. my little sisters best friend's mom [i know a bit, but i've know her for years and years] is doing my flowers. she said under $100 for my bouquet, the bridesmaids, the guys and parents little flowers. here is what my flowers with look like but white, light blue, and regular blue.

i wore white "bridal flip flops" they were sooo cute! anyone who knows me knows that wit wouldnt have been the same wihtout me wearing flip flops lol
I wore white satin slippers in my wedding and bought some for all of my maids too. I wanted everyone to be comfortable. I had stood in weddings with high heels before and didn't want my girls to have to go through that, rofl.
I bought new heels for my sisters wedding. I seriously almost took them off in the middle of the ceremony. I could barely stand it

Were they all ok with that? I suggested that to my bridesmaids and they acted like I was imposing some great big tyranical law on them lol. *shrug* I'm a foot shorter than Tyler, gonna be shorter no matter what kinda heels I wear, might as well be comfy. I'm wearing ballet slipper thingys.
Geri
I think I'm gonna just save my bridesmaids from the whole ordeal and just run down to the courthouse...
use the money I woulda spent on setting up house
yep yep... maybe throw a good housewarming party afterwards instead...
and that way I won't be in such a rush to finish a reception and head off to the honeymoon...
I'd feel so bad for spending all that money and inviting everyone just to be wishing they would leave already....
:hypocrite:
I enjoyed my reception - I always love having all my family and friends together like that!! It was great!! I just made sure it finished around 9 so that there was plenty of time afterwards. Lots of people have receptions that finish at midnight - I didn't want that!! I was really happy with the length and everything - and I wasn't thinking the whole time "I hope this finishes soon" - I just enjoyed it while it lasted ;)

I'm not. (well at least not all the time)
I'm going to be thinking "I hope this finishes soon" throughout the entire engagement/planning period... it won't matter if I'm engaged for 2 weeks, 3 months or 1 year... I'll be going "why didn't we set the date closer??"
LOL
Maybe you're a perfect candidate for eloping ;)
LOL.
My reception was great for the most part. Except my husband embarrassed me to death! He actually stuck his head all the way up under my dress to get the garter (or whatever it's called) lol. I was so embarrassed I went in the bathroom and cried for a min! LOL. It was pitiful.

Just want this waiting to be over
I just wanna be with you

"Viva.... Vivvvaaaa........"
I have books on how to plan a wedding and wedding bargains and blah blah blah and I have computer generated sketches of dresses and I used to have like a database of people that specialized in gowns and I had my side of the guestlist made up...
and the amount of money it would cost, even with all the bridal bargain book tips... is crazy for just a 20 minute ceremony, wear-once dress and fancy dinner party... and the only reason my extended family goes to weddings is to get sloshed... they would all be so disappointed... myself and the groom would be the only ones allowed to be 'besotted' LOL
my best friends from my life and childhood live far away and money is tight for them - they would either be unable to come or it would be a hardship
just wouldn't be practical and wouldn't be worth it for me... I'd rather pay closing costs or have a larger downpayment on a house or buy furniture... its taken me too long to build up my savings to blow it on a party (esp. a party that I'm going to wish would hurry up and end!!!)
now if I marry a billionaire I might change my mind..... but I doubt it LOL
or if I could get corporate sponsors.... but that can be tacky lol
I was the opposite, Amelia - I NEVER thought about weddings hardly at all until I got engaged, then I HAD to think about it... I used to always say that I wanted to elope, but when it came down to it, I loved my wedding day, and my reception and I wouldn't have changed it at all... and even though it was expensive, and the money could have gone towards a house or furniture or something, I wouldn't change it for anything!!
I do think that sometimes eloping works better for some people, or for some people, it might work better to go to Fiji and come back married or something like that... (like an eloping holiday that you can invite your parents or close friends to, maybe 20 people or so)... it all depends on the individual situations...
I considered eloping, but Nick wouldn't hear of it.
What MAN doesn't want to elope!?? Come on, now!

LOL...........the ONLY reason we didn't elope is that our families would have Shot us!!! So, we had a small ceremony at a bed and breakfast with 41 people in attendance. It was GREAT!!!!! We didn't spend a lot of money, but it turned out soooo pretty!!!

I'm the "all-inclusive Figi" type that NicoleJoy was talking about....a beautiful wedding without all of the stress... :great:
The only problem with that is that it costs a lot for your guests to go...
One of my friends married a girl and she was from Samoa, so when they got married, they did a Samoa wedding - but hardly any of their family/friends from over here could make it over there...
I was thinking about having pyrotechnics at my wedding just to make sure it was memorable...then again, just the idea that TRAV:is getting married would make it memorable an deven somewhat unbelievable for most of the population.
I don't know. Maybe I should have the party at a castle or something...
you mean a jumping castle? For all the kids??
no.
although kids are a very cool idea. :thumbsup2:
kids are supposed to come at least 9 months AFTER the wedding
least thats what my mom always told me :-\
okay, i have to confess i only read the last page or so and i only came in here because yesterday or the day before i saw trav and amelia both posting in "i kissed dating goodbye" and then today i saw them both posting in "planning a wedding". :o
i just had to know if john had this investigation under control . . .
although, it sounds like it's all ok since amelia wants to elope somewhere quickly and trav is looking for a castle.
i don't think one can quickly get a castle . . . although i have heard of one reserved in france for such an occassion . .
yeah, pyrotechnics is a good idea and whoever you marry ought to be wearing tennis shoes so she can duck from the papparazzi when needed.
Forgive me for being blonde, but what's pyrotechnics???? lol

less than 3 months to go and i've been highly impressed that particularly my family have stepped up to help. [especially since they kindly don't approve of me being in church]. also we have had amazing and wonderful help from people in the church. they have a good idea about where we stand financially and they have been a blessing to help out as much as they are. but just wanted to give you guys a quick update.
sounds like things are rolling along smoothly :thumbsup2:
yay! Sounds like everything is coming along! I was hoping you would come along soon and let us know how it was going! Keep us updated! :)*
definitly. today mom and i are going to michael's. they have glass vases and decor rocks on sale for cheap. we are going to use those for center pieces on the tables.
Y'know, Michaels often has sales in the local paper with a coupon for up to 50% off any purchase. Might want to look into it. Nice thread, btw. I've really enjoyed it.

Now I need to ask.... Did anyone have a DJ at their wedding?
(I run my own part time DJ business as well as going to school full time.....)
I had a DJ - it was provided as part of our reception hall package... It was nice to have someone else looking after the music!!
we ordered our wedding bands yesterday. they are very plain 10 kt white gold. should be in in about 2 weeks.
our wedding bands are in!!! is it bad i want to wear mine even though it's still over 2 months til the wedding? lol.

This is totally irrelevant - but I bought a book from Amazon the other day and it said it would be sent within 2-4 weeks, and it ended up being sent within about 3 days or so!! I'm happy though coz I need the book pretty soon (it's a textbook for my course...)
Someone was talking about wearing flip flops to their wedding. I though this pair was kind of cute!!!!!
My wedding was pretty cheap. I got my dress at Fashion Bug. It was a long velvet evening gown. I only paid $75 for it. I wore black 2 in. heels. My maid of honor had a velvet evening gown also. My husband wore a black tuxedo and his Best Man wore a really nice black suit.
We used lots of tulle!!!!!! It was draped around the altar with clear lights inside of it. It was also on the seats.
The reception was held downstairs in the churches fellowship hall. The ladies of the church did all the decorating for it and the food.
I think all total we might have spent about $300.
Those flip flops are really cute!
I think they are ugly, but I don't like flip flops at all, so...
I don't like flip flops either. I prefer sandles!
I do like flip flops but not platform ones... and those are a bit much!! LOL

I don't like flip flops, I don't like the part between the toes. So I would wear sandals, even though those are cute.
I have "thong toes" apparently - I have a big gap between my big toe and my other toes - PERFECT for wearing thongs/flip flops depending where you come from in the world... I love my thongs and I wear them all summer!! Well, either thongs or sandals - I have a few pairs of each ;)
I had an old childhood friend get married this weekend. And she wore red cowboy boots underneith her wedding dress lol.

I love flip flops!!! I used to wear them all winter long. But, I've gotten so I can't stand the cold, so I have to put socks on now, and they look pretty funky with flip flops!!!!
That's when you need toe socks!!
Leah used to be a nut for toe socks. :biglaugh:
I wear flip-flops a LOT - that reminds me.. I need a pedi so that I can wear them again!
i looooove flip flops...and i have worn them 1ce or twice with toe socks...that was sooo ugly...lol
i wear flip flops 99% of the time, and im NOT kidding ! my pastor usually laughs at me, he came in the other day and said " its 28 degrees, why are u wearing flip flops", bc it was snowing too lol !
I can't wait until it's warm enough to wear them again!!! But, when it's 5 below 0 I think that that's just a bit too chilly for my toes!!!!
i'm still thinking of going with flip flops. or possibly black heels. [i'm wearing a black jacket over my dress]
also the rings are in and i have to keep myself from wearing mine way to early. lol.
monday night we also decided on our wedding cake and his grooms cake. we also decided to do like a finger food receptions. finger sandwiches. fruit and veggie trays.
the wedding invites are in!!!! also my great aunt surprised me by sending thank you notes and envelopes for all of them. also she sent money for stamps and a little extra for any other wedding expenses. i have some of the best family!
Speaking of rings, how many here wear their wedding bands attached to their engagement rings?
Being a guy, I usually know next to nothing on such things but my wife has told me she wants to buy a couple of wedding bands since she is sick of being asked about "our engagement" and "when is the wedding?".
(We've been married for close to three years now.)
My original wedding ring and engagement ring are sautered together. I have gained quite a bit of weight since then. I now have 2 plain bands and an anniversary type band that I wear depending on which one fits... LOL So I have 4 rings in 4 different sizes.
Socks with sandals or flip-flops - Please. Just Don't. :)
In honor of Elfkins (Elfin), think about the bunny. ;)
I wear a wedding ring and an engagement ring - they're both the same size, and they're not joined... but they "fit" together... The wedding ring is meant to be underneath the engagement ring, I don't know why - that's just the way it is ;) Maybe Australia is different to the US though, I don't know ;)
My wedding ring and engagement ring were not joined together, but, like nicoles, they fit together. The wedding ring went under the engagement ring also.
I don't wear them both yet, but Tyler bought this(^) wedding set. The band is a really simple thin gold band that follows the curve of the engagement ring and it fits in a notch in the engagement ring. I've thought of having them sautered together after the wedding. Any advice about that CRS?
I always heard that you wear the wedding ring under the engagement ring so that it is closer to you, or cause it's the most important or something. Someone somewhere decided to start a tradition LOL.
So.....anyone else having trouble with Mother-In-Laws who are assuming that every idea they come up with is going to happen? (I had a big long rant after this, but I felt better after typing it, so I decided to take it out lol). But seriously, anyone have any advice about diffusing the situation while staying in her good graces, at least as much as I've ever been lol.
i would just gently remind her that it's your day, and while you would like her input, the final decision is yours.
on the ring thing....
my original wedding set was a diamond solitaire (engagement) with another thin band with a peice with diamonds that wrapped around the solitaire (together it looked almost like a rose with little leaves on one side). i had them sautered together after a couple years cuz they would slide apart and bother me when i was clapping in church. i later developed a sensitivity/allergy to the gold so my hubby bought me a new ring for an anniversary... it's platinum with 3 small diamonds across the top. i would like to have a solitaire to go with it, but platinum isn't cheap. :smirk2:
I loved having them sautered together. If done properly nobody would ever know and you don't have to worry about them coming apart.
Oh and I have always worn my wedding ring on the outside because it "seals" the engagement.
After the wedding I just stuck with wearing my band, the top is a row of princess cut diamonds, and it matched the engagement ring perfectly, but I just felt too...flashy, maybe?? lol I have fingers on the short side so wearing both (even though the bands are thin) was just too much.
I was always told to wear the wedding band on the bottom--your wedding coventant is the closest to your heart.

I'll try to post pics of the favors and centerpieces as I get them done. I would post a picture of my invitations, but I think they are all at my momma's house.
Anyways, YAY! Almost married, to Tyler, YAY!! hehe :clap2:

How goes it?
times gettin closer...r u nervous?...1 week 3 days!...wow
Ahhhh, someone else is getting married now? Time to start making comments about the "ol ball and chain"?
Anyways, congrats! Enjoy your wedding! No matter WHAT happens, it is YOUR day (not an endless parade of relatives) and you have full control of what ever happens. :)
Oh yes..... and enjoy the honeymoon! Getting up at 1 or 2 in the afternoon is good for the bones. :)

I really like it, Amber! If I ever get married, you can tell your sister that she's hired to do the decorating. :thumbsup2:
I much prefer simplistic elegance to the 'fluffy-frilly-foofy' stuff.
