Did you know that Alexander the Great in all his 15 years of conquest never lost a battle?

He might not have been the "greatest" , but why do they still study his military tactics and strategies in the military? lol

Nostalgia. All his battle tactics are obsolete. But "By crikey, if it was good enough for me to study when I was at the Academy it better be good enough for these young people."

Are we actually discussing a man that died 1500 years ago, just because Mini told us not to? Yes. Yes, we are.

Mini, next time tell everyone they absolutely cannot send me $1,000 bucks.

How can a wisdom tooth that was removed over 20 years ago (along with the teeth beside it) hurt over 20 years later? No teeth near that spot, but is hurting like a bad wisdom tooth...

Alexander the Great. The one that annoys Mini if we talk about him..
In a perfect world we could discuss how Alexander the Great actually wrote the words to "Last Christmas" as sung by Wham, while eating Chocolate gravy and considering lasagna for supper.

That' should put ole' Baldy the BBW champion into convulsions just thinking about it.

If Alexander was so great, then why can't they find his grave in a city named after him? Also, why did half of his city fall in the Mediterranean Sea? Also, he liked men and not in a Christian Brotherly way...

My brother thought we should call him Alexander the Great... or we called him that to pick on him... or something like that.

A friend at work painted that and gave it to me. It's hanging on my wall at work. I figured that it'll be useful to let my offenders wonder if I were a peacemaker- or if I carry a Colt Peacemaker.

In Arkansas, parole and probation officers are still law enforcement. Not only do I carry, most usually on that back breaking duty belt, many times I have my 357 in an ankle holster or my beloved Kimber in a pocket..

Well around here nobody really even cared about displaying them... until somebody said we shouldn't display them any more. IMMEDIATELY a lot of rednecks started flying those flags from the back end of their pickup trucks.

And I'll trade you workplaces. My workplace is always hot because of the heat from the big grills, and the air conditioner system hasn't worked for months. Fortunately it is winter, so we can just open the back door and let cooler air in. An air conditioner guy was in last week looking at our system and he said there are some parts that were never installed... not just installed impropery, they are flat-out missing. And the ventilation fan over the grill was made in Mexico and it spins in the opposite direction it should be spinning, which explains why it gets all smoky when we cook food.

I actually like Glocks- I've owned a ton of em and carried a ton more owned by my employers. But while they are good for a tool, for sheer shooting pleasure and knowledge of accuracy, I'll take my Kimber.

And today is a good day. I sold a ham radio and purchased another, better model. Now, the new one needs to hurry up and get here. Hopefully by Wednesday, since I'm off and would enjoy having all day to play with it....

Now I can agree with that.  Glocks are not designed to be fun to shoot.  They are designed to fire each and every time without fail.  That they do well.

Makes me think of this commercial for Apple iPad pro. The kid is wondering around town doing all sorts of things on his iPad Pro. Doing a field project for school so he's taking pictures, inputting information, typing, drawing with the pencil etc.
Then it ends where he's laying in the grass and his neighbor comes out and sees him and says "whatcha doing on your computer?"
And the kid says "what's a computer?"

It'll probably be a week or two before I get mine. I looked in the email this morning and a link to Lou's was already there. Looked like it had been since the 4th. Walmart is smokin' fast on electronic w2's, it seems.
And why is it, when you are waiting for something, the UPS guy takes forever?!? I know exactly when he's gonna deliver....right when I'm walking out the door for church. :pound:  Tomorrow night is radio night. I shall ignore any and all requests that do not involve radio.

If I'm home I'll jump on HF and join ya.

The weather is looking nasty here tomorrow, so I may be working from home all day.

For some reason I get a mental picture of Bobby standing behind the pulpit at church, trying hard to preach a sermon, but he keeps using ham radio references as illustrations and the whole congregation is very confused.

Oh, and could I put in a request for "When God Unfolds The Rose"? :sing:

If I'm there, it'll be on the old faithful. I got in last night about 845 and was up until 1130. The new radio has the absolute best receiver I've ever heard. But it doesn't put out enough power to even key my amp, and the only contact I was able to make was on 40 meters- the reports were garbled, fuzzy audio and nearly unintelligible.  The ALC meter isn't working, and its power meter doesn't show any output. I found reports online of the same type issues. So after a call this morning, it's headed back to MTC. I don't know if I'm going to ship it, or just drive down Saturday, since Lou is off. Really disappointing. The receive is everything I've heard it would be and it is beautiful.

I'm exhausted. I feel like every single day this week has been those awful Monday memes you see. I know some of it is that since Jeremy's working 25 min from my workplace and his truck is a gas hog - we've been carpooling to my workplace so that he doesn't have to drive his truck the full 45-60 min one-way commute. I've been getting up a full hour and 15 minutes earlier than I normally had, which will be great once I get use to it and can fully enjoy that extra hour at work in the mornings before the crazy chaos hits. BUT - Until then, I'm exhausted. Year-end is very quickly climbing up my priority list! Plus We're not going fully live with our new accounting software until March, but I feel like this training on my end will never end. LOL. I'm trying to balance between two accounting software programs and it's a little confusing! :) I'm thankful for a job, because I know as miserable as I feel right now, I'd feel worse if I couldn't pay my bills or feed my family. I shouldn't complain about what others would love to have.  But I am really hoping that this "winter storm" turns into just enough to make sure I don't go to work tomorrow LOL. I'll go in Saturday to make up for it. :)

How early do all of you go to bed for the evening? I use to pretty much be a 10-10:30, maybe 11 person. BUT.. since our new schedule, I'm ready to sleep by 9.

Sadly, we can't seem to get in bed around our house until 1030 or 11. And then it is likely I'll toss and turn for another hour. If I sit down in the recliner in the evening though, I zonk out before I have time to crack the cover of the first book. I have to keep myself active and moving if I want to get anything done.
And if any winter travel conditions happen, it needs to happen Monday night, and be gone by Thursday. I don't want to have a single day of my weekend messed up by it, especially on a holiday weekend, and I have things to do next weekend. It can feel free to ice and snow me out of the office Tuesday and Wednesday though- even Thursday morning, as long as it's gone by Thursday evening.

And I called the radio store. They troubleshot everything with me, then advised to package it up and ship it back to them and they'll issue a refund. I'm glad, but miffed. Glad I won't be out the money- it was a huge sum to me- miffed because it'll take a couple of weeks before the money hits, given the transportation time, and I won't have the beautiful radio I skrimped, saved and sold things for.

More often than not my bedtime is between 12-1a. I have random occurrences of it being between 10-12, but again those are random. I have an app on my phone that coincides with my Apple watch called Pillow. It tracks your sleeping patterns etc. It tells me that my "optimal bedtime" is 12:45 because that's when I'll get the best quality of sleep. I don't think it's completely wrong.

If I go to bed at 10 or 11, I will often lay in bed for an hour or two trying to sleep but not. *shrug*
Sleep varies! I'm a poor sleeper. Things wake me up. I sleep too lightly. :nono:

Working from home today.  It's too cold to be outside anyway.  I've done put in my time working out in the cold.  No mas.

So today we got some snow. Roads were slick, but driveable. About 6 people called in to w*rk today. Customers on the other hand, we had them aplenty.

So the question is raised, if so many customers found it possible to get to McD's for their big mac fix, how come so many of the staff couldn't get there?

Some nights I go to bed at 10 others at 230 am. I used to be a pretty solid 11ish bedtimer but the last couple months it has been all over the place.

Yesterday we bought a new tv. Between the 2 of us we had never actually owned a new tv. We always had hand me downs from family and friends. Even our 32" was given to us because we let his sister borrow money she couldn't pay back. Her husband at the time gave us the tv for repayment. Now we have this 55" behemoth and all I watch on it is Netflix documentaries and football when I can catch it.

Still fighting sickness. I think it's because the weather. Yesterday was mid 60s here. Today it's 23 but feels like 13.

My old home church did a huge fast one week every January. Started with no caffeine/tea/soda on Sunday, Wednesday you added no sugars, then Friday after your last meal, you only had water - no food until after Sunday morning church. I always had such crazy food dreams that Saturday night, LOL. One I remember very well involved a whole candy store! It was crazy haha.

I missed work yesterday due to our winter weather activity. No one went in thanks to the icy road conditions. I was going to go in today, but decided to stay home and work on the church books some more. Glad I didn't go in anyway because my coworkers (also family of the owner) went in for a bit today and slide all around on the driveway. I wouldn't have been very happy about that, LOL.

Jeremy has made it back and forth to work in this okay so far. I'm thankful for his job! :)

Went over to Mini-ster's house last night after work, and he and I invaded the foreign land known as Texas. Went over to Paris, Texas and returned my radio. Got a full refund, and a promise that they would send it off to be fixed. If it were fixable, they would let me know when it was back so I could buy it again if I want to risk it. Good people. And it's a good thing they are 5 hours away from me. I do believe I could easily spend a 100 grand there in a matter of minutes. Had thoughts about trading my Corvette for one of the high end radios they had...
And now I'm considering running back to Russellville tomorrow before church and buying the materials to build my second bookcase, since I'm off Monday and they claim it may be some winter weather. I can heat the shop and build it out there...

I wish you'd share them. I love good homemade biscuits. My Mama made the best- those big ole fluffy light cathead biscuits. I watched her make 'em every weekend all of my life, know exactly what she did and the ingredients, and still can't make them.
Those biscuits, her steaming sweet chocolate gravy, and her special "chocolate biscuits"- biscuits with cocoa and sugar in the center, which melted to a chocolate river- were a staple growing up, and the reason you could always find my friends at our house early on Saturday mornings.

I'm at work playing on my 'new' Surface Pro. Meaning my laptop bit it and Brandon gave me this. He bought it for school last semester and didn't use it as much as he thought. It's perfect for me. Super portable, used as tablet or with keyboard, microsoft on it, etc. I like it!

Church yesterday was awesome. I'm glad I've found my way back to this church. I attended there before we moved back to Bristol, but with dad's illness and scheduling it was almost impossible to make it there. Now it's just making it a priority because I have the time, we have moved about 20 minutes closer, and I have the transport.

Brandon and I are currently arguing cars. lol. Ok, not really arguing. We have Tiny Car [my Yaris] but we also inherited my dad's car [and payment]. Brandon's Subaru needed replacing anyway. Now it's who drives what. I drive 3 minutes from home for work. He drives 35 minutes to school 5x's a week. Tiny Car gets better mileage but he whines about his knee hurting with the manual transmission AND he wants the 'new' car. I've always had knee problems and now add my hips to it. I'll keep you updated to who wins.

I too hate winter. And thank you fuzz, for the news. That's awesome! Now...I gotta get Robbie to get on the ball and get his antennas working, cause once little one gets here, he won't have time...

And my sharing today- I finally got off my backside. Went to Harbor freight for a $10 roll of visquine plastic to help seal the shop up, left $46 poorer and have found approximately $16,000 worth of tools that I NEED.
I did get some of my projects done today- namely a pot of beef stew, the shop is now heated, and  I have plumbed my new compressor into an older compressor, thus doubling my available air capacity for air tools, ect.

They claim we are going to get snow and ice tonight. For once I am all "let's do this" about it, because with a little luck it'll be too slick to go to work tomorrow, giving me another day off.

Dear Lord it is cold. 9 degrees this morning. I had to drive the 'vette in, which demonstrated the pains of a 20+ year old car. Of all things to fail- the blower control module died. This regulated the  blower motor. Without it no fan, thus no heat. I managed to be halfway comfortable after discovering the faster I drove, the more heat passed through the vents. So it was a quick ride in this morning. And yes, I came straight in and ordered the part it needs. Lord.

It's currently 8 and feels like 2 in my ole mountains of East Tenn. The heat at work is struggling. It's currently 48 in the store. Thankful for hot hands in my boots.

I got propositioned about a job at an old employer. 25 hours starting out but full time and management within the next 6 months. Promises of being off for church. Timely considering I just found out my current employer is talking a whole lot of bad stuff about me behind my back (she accidentally text it to me and named me specifically...). So, Heather may be heading back to AutoZone soon.

So I'm going to catch up on news from this end of the world. This has been a hectic few days for me.

Last Friday we got snow. Unbeknown to me, my minivan's right rear tire froze solid and slid over the ice instead of rolling. It stayed frozen for a good six miles and flat-spotted itself real good. I could still drive on it, but it wouldn't last more than a few dozen miles more.

Then this Tuesday I was out of work for reason of being sick.

This Wednesday my car's front right tire just spontaneously went flat. Great, there goes my backup vehicle as well.

So today I tried to change the back right tire on the minivan and put the spare on. Oddly when I jacked up the minivan and got the lug nuts off, the wheel just stayed on the axle. I wedged, tugged, but it just stuck. So I put the lug nuts back on and took it to my mechanic, who jacked it up, took the lug nuts back off and gave it a spirited kick. That got it.

Then he tried to put the spare tire on it... and it didn't fit. Actually the spare tire came from the green minivan I used to have. I THOUGHT it would fit, but never tried it. Great, glad I didn't find that out halfway between here and east TN where I visit Mom.

So tonight when I got home I changed the tire on the backup car... and found out it went flat because it was just plain wore out. Yay, I'm oblivious!

So now I'm in for three tires and a rim: The tire to replace the minivan flat-spot, the tire and rim to replace the minivan spare that was the wrong size and the tire for the car.

Can I get a Mulligan for this week? I hear that's what they do in golf, when they take a shot and don't like it they can call "Mulligan!" and do the shot again. I need a Mulligan and do this week over.

This cold is for the bears. Not me.

I went 37 years never seeing snow, and now it's snowed here TWICE in less than a month. Wednesday morning I drove over an iced over bridge, tires spinning and me not moving but inches at a time..scarest experience I've ever had. Then an hour after I crossed the bridge and made it safely to work, 20 minutes late, they closed the bridge and I was stuck at work for most of the afternoon, after I got off.

Then only to finally get home and my pipes had busted cause the idiot neighbors who I share a duplex with, failed to leave the faucets dripping and it was 19º the night before, so all our pipes were busted.

Erica and I were without water for a day and a half, and I have been wearing so many layers of clothes cause I don't have proper winter attire. I don't own anything thicker than a hoodie, and I nearly froze to death. Lol

Im so over it!

But! It's a sunny 46º here right now and Im sitting in the parking lot of work in my truck, waiting on my check. When I get that I can run errends and do what I need to do, and I have a truck bed FULL of fire wood, and Im off the weekend! Supposed to have a high of 70º on Sunday! Bring it!

Gonna be great! This week was rough, and cold, but we made it and Im happy and blessed!

But wait, there's more!

The spare tire I put on my backup car last night... which was fine last night... was flat this morning. REALLY?!!

I'm starting to get paranoid about tires. I keep glancing at the minivan to make sure all four tires are okay.

Heather, all I can say is that it does get better eventually. But it's also ok to cry anytime you need to. Just do it and get it done and dont stay there. After awhile, you wont cry as often and the pain will be more bearable. It never goes away. Don't let people tell you that, it never goes away. It just gets to a point where you live with it and you deal with it. Just like everything else.

Life is hard, and death is so much harder...on the living.

Hang in there. Remember the good stuff. Talk about him with family. Laugh. Poke fun at the stuff he did that was crazy or silly. That's all ok. And it help the pain be more bareable.

My brothers and I talk about Mom and Dad all the time. And that idiot Furby. We talk about the good and bad. We laugh, and sometimes we still cry. But it's better. So so so much better than when it first happened.

*HUGS*

You know you can call me if you need to. I can listen.

We survived with no visible damage that I could tell this morning. Not sure if my antennas are all okay- I intend to check when we get home tonight.
And in sharing- had a wonderful weekend. Mini and I, at Rainbow Jingles' instigation, jumped in Mini's ride and pulled out of my house Friday morning about 4 am. Went over to ze Taco and clown's area to surprise the decrepit old guy for his 40-0th birthday.
It was a very time limited trip, so there weren't a lot of stops...but it was epic.
A few things learned are, in no particular order:
1) that Mini's ride has a nagging warning symbol/tone if you cross a center or fog line and his GPS gets testy when it is ignored.
2) Mini sometimes sounds like a Freightliner's jake brake going down a hill when he goes to sleep
3) I should never try to talk and answer Lou's texts at the same time, as it results in me calling folks things I don't mean to
4) Virginia is beautiful
5)Mini has a weakness for chicken.
6)Arkansas is the most beautiful sight ever after a 2000 mile trip.
7) It IS possible for a secret to be kept
8) Taco sputters like a Model T when he's surprised

We pretty much rolled on the interstate. Stopped briefly at Nashville, where we checked a bucket list item- we ate at White Castle. Meh. They okay. I wouldn't drive out of the way for them though.
Sadly, despite the fun, I find myself back at work today...

It should also be noted that Roscoe is flat out jumpy when driving.  Phone rings and comes through the radio system, he jumps.  You roll down a window to take a picture and he nearly says a wirty dird.  :ugly:

And Roscoe sounds about the same way...

We are driving along.  I make a offhand comment about the weather or something.  He says something along the lines of "I agree, baby."  I look at him.  I say "What did you just say?!?"  The look of horror that crossed his face was priceless.

I agree.  Kudos on the beautiful state.

True dat.  We talked several times about stopping in to say howdy to you and Lynx.  On the way up we were pressing for time and same on the way back.

And let me say this for you Tennessee people.  You have the longest state Ive ever been in.  We crossed the bridge at Memphis around 6:30 am.  We rolled into Virginia on 81 at 3:20 pm.  We had 1 or 2 stops for gas and a 45 minute stop for lunch and walking in Nashville.  It took forever to get across your state!

Yall will be pleased to read this...

So why am I up at 2am? Long story. While on our recent trip, Porter and I discovered a fireworks supercenter. Being kids at heart, we bought a few things "for the kids". No good deed goes unpunished.
Fast forward to tonight. Nature calls and I rush to answer. At 2am. My bratty kid and wife had planned an epic prank....
I head to take care of business with the Porcelain Throne. It suddenly sounds like Afghanistan, or at least Detroit on the weekend.
Scares me to death.
They taped about a dozen of these stupid things (snap poppers, the little paper twist of gunpowder you throw on the ground and they explode) between the commode and the seat.
Now, I have powder burns, an accelerated heart rate, a burning desire for revenge,  and am afraid to go to sleep. And I've developed a phobia for the bathroom.

Sorry you're sick, Heather. :(

Roscoe, what i want to know is.... did you scream/yell/dance/etc?? We need a better description of your reaction.

I've had a teen gal from our church living at my house for three days. It's been heavenly. I seriously have GOT to come up with funding for a nanny/mother's helper. I can't keep going at this pace. It's simply not sustainable. I love my kiddos to pieces, but being a work-at-home mom is not for the faint of heart. In addition, you must be able to keep going for long hours without sleep or food, and with insane numbers of interruptions while working, and yet still somehow be professional in emails and on the phone. I'm doing it, so apparently it can in fact be done. But I'm pretty certain my little red choo-choo is on its way around the bend. If I can just get past the official public launch, maybe things will ease up a bit. Please, God! Lol.

Praying for Chel.

Much yelling. Many quick movements, the details of which I shall not go into, but suffice it to say no one would've thought it to be dancing. :smirk:

I've just made an awesome breakfast ingredient. A dozen eggs, a little milk, a bunch of seasonings, and baked it for about 30 minutes, the sliced into squares. In the morning, a bagel, a piece of cheese and a precooked sausage patty, with said egg and some salsa on it, and Voila- healthy filling breakfast in ten minutes.

Yeah, that's about right. Remember my uncle Fred, the guy you remind me a lot of? That's another way you remind me of him. He doesn't start stuff much, but if you pull one on him he'll return the favor, with compound interest, seven months later.

Urgh.

In other news, last night I gave our pup a bath.  Keep in mind, said pup is 8 1/2 months old.  Here's a picture of her at Christmas.

Shes a small thing right?  So she gets done with her bath last night, and is WIRED.  Im attempting to dry her off while distracting her with her rubber squeaky bone.  Shes having a blast.  At the end of the process, I toss her bone.

It lands on the couch.  Right on the other side of my daughter, who is sprawled out studying.  The dog then runs and jumps on her.  Let me tell you the fight was on...

and

I lost.

At any rate, Bobby your Chihuahua is definitely not typical.

Got to work around 6:45a and left work last night about the same time in PM. Had a headache most of the day that I'm extremely thankful it went away before I went home, because about 10:40 (I was about to fall asleep), my husband decided he wasn't going to be able to make it through the night with the excruciating tooth pain he was having. So we loaded up and drove the 40 mins to the VA ER. His job has 0 time off for dental visits at his current probationary period, and he's terrified of missing in that same 90 day period because he wants to keep this job. We got home just a little after 1am. We had to get back up this morning at 6am (I decided to drop him off at work so that we could sleep another half hour this morning LOL). I'm hoping that he can get off early enough today to be able to at least CHECK in with his dentist to make sure we are doing correct treatment on the issue. I'm tired, but I thought I would feel WAY worse. I'm just hoping for a peaceful night tonight, and thankful he was able to rest some after we got back from the ER.

I'm also VERY thankful for the VA healthcare. It definitely has its horrid faults, but I'm so thankful that in moments like that, we could choose a 40 min drive for free care over a 5 minute drive and possibly pay hundreds and hundreds. I really wish they could involve dental care into their healthcare tho. It's hard to understand why/how they can't connect oral health to overall health. Don't even get me started on the failing mental healthcare options.

She is NOT mine. But I have to take care of her when Erica is at work. She is still a puppy, and only semi-housetrained.

We are working on it.

Currently she is laying beside me asleep. I am about to get up and clean the kitchen and cook some dinner... She she better move.

Her name is Mia and she is a Weiner dog. She is cute, and she is not whining thru the night now, so I guess she is ok. At least she isn't Furby.

Sometimes you just gotta turn on a POA station on YouTube and make yourself get off the couch. The longer I sit around the lazier I become. I did go to have lunch with Brandon between his classes with a side trip to Hobby Lobby. Currently I'm cleaning my whatever room. Bathroom is already done. My whatever room has my closet off of it, our storage space and will one day house my craft room. Currently it's all piled on a bookcase in the corner.

Mel, mom is currently stuck on Destin which I think is even closer to you than PCB.

Finally eating lunch!

I got more sleep last night than the night of the ER trip, yet I'm more tired today than that one, LOL. I think I've turned into one of 'those people' who turn in for the night at like.. 6 and then are up by like 4-5. Ugh.. I wasn't a night owl like I was a LONG time ago, but I at least could stay awake past 10pm. I was in bed Saturday night two and a half hours before my parents were, haha.

Finally getting to my last big step of year-end closeouts at work. I have started the dreaded worksheets. Lots of numbers and making sure everything matches and makes sense, so that when the CPA asks me questions - I don't feel like a complete idiot and can figure out what I did so that I can explain. :)

Morning, all. It's FINALLY Friday!! The roast was absolutely divine. Probably the best roast I have ever cooked. I splurged a bit when I bought it, and bought a pricey chuck roast for around $12. It was a BIG roast, and I planned to eat it for a few meals. But it was so good, we pretty much ate ALL of it last night. I'd put a ton of veggies in it, so we still have plenty of those, but the meat is MIA..
I plan to do very little today. And even less this weekend. Started to call in sick today, just to stay home- don't have anyone scheduled.

:hi: I spent the day running around, spending money. Federal refund hit, so I went and bought a nice new tile saw big enough to do the job, then located 720 sq feet of tile for .99 a sq foot. This should put me around the $1,000 mark to have all of our desired tile job done. Slowly, little by little, we are getting things done like we want. I still need to paint that kitchen wall, paint the cabinets, redo the bathroom, build more bookcases...shew. I'll be working on this stuff when I'm 90.
It was kinda cool today too.

I pinned on a badge. Yeah, I'm guilty. However, the good news is, I was there to testify against the accused, not to be sentenced myself. And the prosecutor was apparently tired of folk. Four up.....Four sent to prison.  :o
I'd have compassion, but truthfully of the four, two had been given chance after chance and refused help or anything else, one had killed a lady in a drunk driving accident, and the last is the only one I know nothing about. I'd say three of them for sure deserved their punishment without a doubt, and I hope they get their head on straight while they are in there.

And in sharing- they claim we may have a chance of ice tonight and tomorrow.  :pound:  SO sick of it, and desiring summer. And if Lou had just listened and not decided she would rather have a weekend getaway, we would be sailing out to Jamaica right now. :pound:

Thanks, but no thanks. LOL

I got quite the surprise this afternoon. When I hired in two years ago, they mentioned that the goal was for the caseloads to be around 80 to 90 offenders per officer.  I've had in the 125 to 160+ range for the majority of this time, at one time topping 170 with 24 sex offenders, which are supposed to be their own caseload. Recently they put another officer position in my office. Claimed he was going to get the sex offenders and case numbers were going down. They did some shuffling and today I was notified that it was done.
I now have around 85 to 90 offenders. I won't know what to do with myself. I'll have a ton of free time now!! LOL

<Cliff Notes> Somebody else has most of my problem chillun. And I be glad.

Bro. Damesworth is a wonderful preacher! We had him up here just last fall!

I tried to file my taxes last week. If you're on my Facebook, you saw that it was an epic fail. I did file my federal, but the State of Illinois decided to change the income tax % in July of last year. It was 3.75% Jan-Jun and then 4.95% July-Dec. When we file our taxes, they decided to do a blended rate since obviously they wouldn't get enough if they left it alone. (LOL) Jeremy's unemployment checks had 4.95% state withheld from them, so H&R Block wouldn't let me file our state since some form wasn't ready yet that apparently deals with this issue of differing percentages. It's frustrating, but hopefully someone will have come up with this form by the expected date of Feb 16th, and I'll be able to file that as well. If nothing changes, I don't completely mind - since I'm somehow getting a refund from them.

Jeremy had been having some teeth pain (like swelling, extreme sensitivity, etc) - this is the story of when we went to the ER last week. Well,  he went to the dentist on Friday and was referred to an endodontist in Paducah. We finally figured out a date (thanks to my momma's smart self) that Jeremy is off work for a holiday (not sure if it's paid LOL) and can go get this work done! I'm also thankful that a dentist several years ago gave me info on CareCredit. I use that for our dental bills since we don't have dental insurance. It has come in QUITE handy. I love that it has promotional financing so that I can pay off a smaller balance in 6 months with no interest. I also have a version of that for my car (Car Care One). Anyway, I'm hoping that his issues are taken care of for the most part that day since he has to possibly get one new root canal and a retreatment of an old root canal. The only bad thing is that after that, we have to go back to his regular dentist so they can do a treatment of his gums. He has ridiculously bad teeth/gums (hereditary - his grandpa has dentures and his dad should). Glad we were able to time that with his day off work so that he doesn't have to miss. I cannot wait until this 90 day probation for new hire is up! lol

We got ice last night up here. We know to be careful on the porches obviously, but the gravel in our driveway about nailed me today LOL. Thankfully neither of us actually fell.

MJJ - I've never been to the Bahamas, but just thinking about it made me warmer, LOL. You'll have to share some pictures with us of your time there!

WOOHOO Heather! I'm glad you were able to get started early. Glad you were also able to help your momma. Hope she's getting better!

Policia (LOL) - That's great that something you were promised finally came to fruition! Yay!! Less problem kids!! Yay!! It stinks for those people tho, because they're losing what could be the best positive voice in their lives - even if they were unwilling to listen! Glad for you tho! Less stress is always happily accepted haha.

I don't think I've said it yet - but congrats on the baby, Chel & Fuzz! That's so exciting!

Whew. Reading Nelle's post was like running through Starbucks chugging expressos. :ugly:

I know all about hereditary bad teeth. Best thing I ever did was having them pulled and getting dentures.
And in sharing I am totally ticked at my bank. They changed their online banking "to better serve our customers". Used to if you entered the wrong password it would lock you out, but there was a link you could click, answer security questions and reset passwords. And they weren't case sensitive.
Now they are, and there's no link. I've been locked out of my account and I am not happy.

Okie...

Reminds me of a question on my ask mini thread.

Do you have any sisters?

I have one, commonly known as Okieoliveoyl or some other name on here.  She, according to legend, is meaner than most female bears, bald, covered in tattoos, and spending her life in prison for petty larceny, arson, and confetti.  At least thats my story.

I've been to the main island Nassau in 2016. This time we're going to a much smaller island called Spanish Wells. It doesn't even have cars. Only golf carts haha. We will also be very close (a $4 water taxi ride away) from Eleuthera (which is where we're flying in) and they have the glass house bridge - where one side is the Atlantic dark blue ocean and the other side of the bridge is the Caribbean crystal clear turquoise waters! SO STOKED.

A solid 85 degrees every day. The ocean breeze blowing around you. We have our own house on the beach with our own private beach.

Cannot.
Wait.
83 days.

Got the unwelcome news at around 4pm that I needed to preach tonight due to pastor being out of town and new associate pastor being at the hospital with one of his kids. This left me with about an hour between work and church, and nothing prepared. Taught a "rerun" from 3 or 4 years ago. Went okay, I guess. No barn burner though.

Kinda cool and wet out here today. Went and borrowed a friend's dually to go pick up the tile, as it was very heavy and I wasn't sure if my little truck would do it. Bought $800 bucks of tile, the went and bought the week's lunch meat and hamburger, as well as picking up the one thing Lou and I had agreed on with the tax money spending- an air fryer. Gonna try it out tonight.
I really SHOULD get up and start taking up the laminate we are replacing, but my get up and go- it done got up and went, without me.

When you NEED them to? The supervisors need to see you handling an active case? Or you need them to cause trouble so you can have an excuse to get out of the office?

I needed an excuse to get out of the hostile work environment known as my office staffed by supervisors.
I survived though. Currently trying to figure out the best way to keep the munchkin and wife off of the hall floor (leading to the bathroom) while the mortar is drying this weekend. May load them up Friday night and head for a motel for the night and come back Saturday. This will put me behind on my goal of getting the tile job done, but if I can get the hallway finished, we can pretty much live without going into the living room for a week or so.
And I'm back at work, where the equivalent of my days' pay is going to a windshield replacement company to fix Lou's cracked windshield. That and the air fryer she wanted, is her valentine's present. Romantic- no, probably not. But practical. And what she wanted..

I have not even had any caffeine this morning. I look for inspiration and uplifting words from a minister, with a single word plea for help- "urgh". I got called a bum, informed I had 17 days off after this one (news to me), and called - in a deriding manner-a typical government employee. :sadbounce:

I. AM. CRUSHED.  I need chocolate and Dr Pepper to console myself, and I have none.

On the other hand, it IS my Friday and I DO get four days off. The downside, of course, is that I have that infernal tile job that has the house looking like an atomic bomb exploded to do...and the state needs to get off its butt and release my refund, the fat crooks.

Had good church tonight. We went to Conway with the intention of getting the grout I need for tomorrow, so I wouldn't have to drive in. Lowe's closed, contradictory to their website, an hour before I got there. Lou and I went to iHOP though, so all was not lost.

We got home from St Louis with the SS kiddos around 7:30-8pm on Sunday. Ran home, grabbed some stuff, and drove over to Paducah for the night. We had an 8:40am appointment at the endodontist for Jeremy. They only did one of the root canals AND it was the re-treatment one, so he didn't even have to have any pain meds which saved me moolah! haha.. He said it was probably the best experience so far at a dentist, LOL. He has to go see his regular dentist within 30 days to get the permanent filling on that, and then he has some other work at his regular dentist that we need to schedule for the same day. I'll be glad when that's all settled for a while! Also will be glad when he can get regular dental insurance! He's eligible for the "good" dental insurance after a year. The regular only covers xrays and cleanings, which is still helpful!

We traipsed around in Paducah for half the day after that, then I had to drop by work to submit a pay application, but then we carried on into Carbondale to find him a new wallet. We got him a new pair of work shoes while we were in Paducah. It rained so much on Saturday that when he got him - his shoes smelled like really nasty stagnant lake water. I really almost got sick from it LOL. We washed them immediately, but they needed replaced anyway, so he'll keep those for a backup on a dry day! haha..

I think it's supposed to rain for like.. the next 40 days and nights here. I might need a boat.. haha.

Got results from a DNA kit Elona bought me that is an "Origins DNA" kit. It tells you where the oldest DNA in you is from. I'm basically 70% Viking and my DNA shows up all the way through Greenland so it's likely some of my family were the first to land in New Foundland in Canada. Also, we are the Vikings who settled eastern England and Scotland

Then, Gangis Kahns Mongol blood made 6.1%, India 5%, Basque Country 6%, Isreal 2.2% but specifically coming out of Syria moving north, in other words, one of the "Lost tribes''. Then a bunch of .1 or .01 stuff.

Interesting, but I want to do the ancestry test now with more modern statistics.

And in sharing, it's flippin' raining here too. I'm so tired of it. Everything is flooded, and in addition to this, as I live in the country and my septic tank is underwater, the toilet doesn't work. And it's supposed to do this mess all week. :pound:

I spent a bit of time extra at work this evening, getting stuff straight, then went to church. I'll get back to crackin' on the floor job tomorrow night. I look forward to the day that I have all of my projects caught up and can spend a day driving Rusty on the backroads.

Rain. Again. I grouted another section of tile.. and got the unwelcome news that a man who I grew up listening to sing, and worship God, who had backslidden a few years ago, had passed away today.
I spoke with him a few months ago, told him it was about time to come home to church. He agreed, said he would...never did. Now..it's too late.

Breaks my heart. He was only 56.  He sang on par with Kenny Hinson in my book. And I've watched him run the backs of the pews with his eyes closed while worshipping. To see yet another piece of my childhood slip away...

It rained here so much a couple a weeks ago, I thought we may need an ark. But this past week has been cloudy with no rain. Lots of sun in between and its been hot and breezy.

I had my cookout finally, and it was supposed to rain, but never did! Yay!

It's HOT today. I came home and was relaxing in my chair and dozed off, and I woke up drenched in sweat. Had to turn on the air full blast just to get comfortable.

My roommate is gone for the night, staying with a friend and she took her stupid dog with her. Thank God! I have the air cranked now, and don't have to listen or deal with her whiny mutt.

Tomorrow is taco day in our house. Yum.

Goodnight.

My mama made it awesome. Thick, not that thin syrup stuff some folks call chocolate gravy. That and her light and fluffy cathead buttermilk biscuits are two things I watched her make for a lifetime, wish I could have one more day to watch, and can't make to save my life.
My sister Kim can come close on both- nearly exact on the gravy.

I am totally ready for the weekend, even if I DO have plans to work most of it at the house.

And Fuzz- I am weak. I let Germ lead me into that. And I let coworkers drag me to a Mexican place, knowing on both counts that 1) You were gonna beat me and 2) The Mexican food is going to assault me as well.
Peer pressure is rough on me.

Y'all, I have only had chocolate gravy once, and I loved it. I never made it myself, until tonight. I had a serious craving since everyone was talking about it here. I needed that chocolate in a bad way.

BAD.

So I looked up a recipe and made it.

Whoa.

Mine was even better than the stuff I had at my friends house. And I had a banana and sliced it up and covered it with gravy too... incredible!

I am full, fat and sleepy.

Yes, Lord.

Sorry to hear Fuzz.

And Chel, it actually didn't kill me this time. I may have found a Mexican food place I can actually eat.

And in sharing, I need to repent, because right now, if there is someone praying for rain, I am wishing for them a violent demise. They GOTTA either quit, or be more accurate with WHERE they want this mess. It is raining again. I am at a tile job standstill because of it, because I have no place to set furniture. I have to wait another 24 hours before I can grout my last-laid tile, then another twelve hours or so before I can move furniture onto it so I can do the rest of the room.

So I'm sitting in a room that looks like an atomic bomb exploded, reading a book. I look lazy. And it irritates me 'cause I want this done!!

Morning all. Got a call a few ago waking me up to tell me that the local pd had gotten in a pursuit with one of my worst headaches. Finally got her stopped to discover she had cocaine, beer and numerous other illegal substances with her, she resisted- oh, and she had her 8 month old along for the ride. Yeah, she went directly to jail and did not pass go. I look forward to this violation report and pray the parole board issues a warrant. Large Dr Pepper with vanilla and real cherries from Sonic......YUM!

I can't drink it all the time though. I'm having to really buckle down on what does and doesn't work for me. i can have 1 soda in the morning, maybe a sweet tea at lunch, and other than that it's all water, all the time.

The rain is back....again.....

This is me. All water. All the time. With the occasional Kool-Aid. I don't drink much soda. If I do, it's COKE.

And same. Rainy and foggy and muggy, cus it's like 68 degrees.

I must admit, I've strayed from the Dr Pepper only crowd lately. I've began getting the "Mexican" cokes, coca cola made in Mexico with real sugar, not corn syrup. One of the stores locally stocks it and it's became my go to. Otherwise, I actually drink a lot of water.

And in sharing, I've just booked our family a weekend in Branson. Waterpark, Samson, Grand Country Music Hall and Titanic. After we get finished there we may go somewhere else for a day or so, not sure. We decided to throw most of our tax/vacation money to the house remodel this year, so we are keeping it close to home.

I see the board is still alive and well.  Figures I'd end up coming back on when you guys are talking about Dr. Pepper and Coke.  I quit soft drinks cold turkey a week ago and I'm still craving them.  Dr Pepper and Coke was my favorites.

Didn't get much sleep last night so not been real motivated to do much today.  Got out to Bible Class this morning but that's been about it.

I was hard core Dr Pepper... but I'm more of a Pibb fan now. I'll choose that or fountain coke at a restaurant UNLESS I know they have good sweet tea. :)  I'd drink tea all day long, LOL.

@work. Wishing for the weekend.. I need a mini-vacation or something. I have got to get out of this area and give my wee little brain a rest!

This Dog needs to go.

Erica and I need to have a little discussion about why I don't have a dog, and if I choose not to have a dog, then I should not be forced to take care of one in my home that I don't even want.

She is never home, and so that leaves me to listen to her whimper and bark and take her out and such... the exact reason I DON'T HAVE A DOG! I don't want to be bothered with one, and since I am an adult, I shouldn't have to deal with someone else's dog.

She wants it, she should take care of it.

But she won't see it that way.

Ugh.

I have several ideas, but they involve doing things that would be unfair to the poor dog. I have one idea that is fair, but it involves application of a baseball bat to the owner's forehead...

Aside from that the only suggestion I have would be to lock the dog in the owner's bedroom with food and water and let the dog pee all over the owner's bed. It would not be harmful to the dog or the owner, it would be fair and the owner might actually start doing something to take care of the dog.

If I make it through tomorrow and Thursday, I'll be good. Got zero done on the floor tonight. Sigh. Had to run to Conway to get more mortar. Day #5 of 6 (hopefully that's all LOL) without my little car. She's still in the shop. What started as an oil change, alignment, and new brakes, turned into those three PLUS new tie rod & bolts for that rod thing. Hyundai calls it a lateral something-or-other, so I may be wrong calling it a tie rod. I have no idea of these things, LOL. I'm so so so glad we have friends who run an auto shop because I love that I can fully trust someone with my car. We decided to stop going just wherever was cheap and convenient, and entrust our cars only to them. They've been amazing to work with, plus they have the most adorable boxer (Diesel) that I get to see and pet when I go. :)

We bought Jeremy a new grill last night for our anniversary present to each other. I counted it as mine as well since I will hopefully benefit greatly from this new grill in the form of more home-cooked (home-grilled?) foods! He researched for several days and finally found a pellet grill at Lowe's that we could afford and he would enjoy. I'm glad for Lowe's having the promotional financing, plus that veteran discount covers the taxes and some change.  They did have a slightly larger footage at a lower price at Walmart (he said that Pit Boss uses Walmart as their #1 distributor, and Lowe's as the #2.) but I do prefer the Lowe's atmosphere, haha.

I was like this (shows fingers in an almost-pinched mode) close to getting to go to California with my mom in June to celebrate my sister-in-love's graduation from college. I was even going to go to Disneyland!! Lifelong semi-dream there!! haha.. Anyway, they may be coming in the summer to Arkansas now, so I told Mom that we should just spend time with them in Arkansas instead of the expense of flying out there AND then me trying to get off again to spend time in Arkansas. So that's probably what I'll do.. just take off the time to spend with them while they're in Arkansas. Should be fun. :)  I'm SOOO proud of her tho! She's lived here in the US since 2011. She's now an official US citizen AND graduating college to become an elementary teacher. She loves my brother and puts up with his weirdness. Plus she loves our family like we were always there. God can truly write a love story, can't He?! :)

That's all that's going on here that I know of. It's cloudy and chilly here in SoIL. I'm also a little sleepy.. probably somewhat due to the cloudiness. :)

You see, my dad brought me 2 roosters last Saturday.  One has decided to voice his new found liberty in a song of praise, aka crowing.  Dumb thing started yesterday morning at 3:30 am.

Then this morning he started in at 4:30 am.

I'm gonna confess before he distorts it. I was just unkind to Mini. Knowing my struggles, he sends me pics of his lunch. What looks like a HUGE chicken sandwich and Fries. Maybe the rooster he referred to, I don't know.

MY lunch- a can of V8 juice and a 2 1/2 inch diameter apple.
I called him an evil, manipulating, non-sympathetic son of a motherless goat*.

*Figuratively speaking- I am NOT calling Ma or Pa Porter a motherless goat.

You went to a mexican restaurant and got a cheeseburger? OF COURSE it will be subpar! That's like going to Hibachi Grill (a wonderful all-you-can-eat sushi place) and getting fried chicken. So. very. tired. I'm already off of work, but I'm waiting on my husband to finish the route he's on so that he can pick me up! It's been an incredibly long, chaotic work week!

We finally get to pick up my car after work.  It was a couple hundred more in cost that originally expected, but I'm glad that it SHOULD be good to go for a while now. We need to keep her up and running so that she can hopefully soon become my husband's commuting car, and I will get the "new" family vehicle that we somehow manage to buy. LOL.

Made it to Branson. Very cool room- Chey was overjoyed because it has a "kids cabin", basically a little room within the room with a very cool bunk bed set in it. Having a good time so far.

Had a busy day at work. Weekends must be the time to shop.

I'm looking forward to church tomorrow. We've got southern gospel artist Joseph Habedank doing special music and giving his testimony in the morning service.

Winter has reared its ugly head again. I love snow.. It's beautiful. But it's the middle of March now, and I'm over it all. :) Not that I'm ready for rain season, because I find cloudy, rainy days just as dreary as the freezing cold and snow (after I've had enough LOL). I'm more of a breezy, sunny, tad warm day kinda girl.

Plus this weather is killing my allergies & sinus. My body can't figure out what it's going to do when the weather keeps changing so much haha. Thankful for an indoor job tho! I can at least turn on my fan or my heater - depending what mood the outside is in. :)

Time change - ugh. It's not AS horrible this year, but I would like a nap. The good thing is that it FEELS like it should only be after 12, but it's really almost 2! :)

Spending today trying to clear off my backlog of invoicing to do. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to clean up the previously billed pile! :)

It was like 85 on Saturday. I spent the day outside in my yard. Had a guy come mow and edge. Then I pulled up this big raised flower bed along the driveway/sidewalk, and pulled up the ones around the two trees. Just leveling them out and leaving it as grass. Moved the big flower bed dirt to the backyard that had a bit of a dip in it to level that out. Took me 4 wheelbarrow trips. haha my shoulders ache from shoveling and my legs hurt even still today.

Then I had these stone/brick garden edging things left from a previous tenant. I mapped out one portion of my garden along with a space along the back fence for the "flower" garden. I need about 12 more of those brick things. But can't find the pewter stone ones at my Home Depot. Just the red brick color. Rawr.

Then the temp dropped yesterday and it was 45 this morning.
Supposed to be back up to high 70's again by the weekend when I plan to do the garden.
Beans, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, some herbs, corn (gonna try the corn in a small patch...we'll see) broccoli and a strawberry plant. Then I'm planting dahlias, poppies, snap dragons and something else I forget as far as flowers go.

SO EXCITED

Oh and I'm dog sitting for the parents, since Saturday, until tomorrow.

We went a bought a new tree to replace the old redbud that I had to take down last year. We bought a "Burgundy Belle" Maple. Supposed to be fast growing and in the fall, it looks like it is ablaze with bright red leaves. Tomorrow, I'll go get a few landscape timbers and a ton of mulch, and flowers for the window boxes.....It's beginning to look like my favorite time of year. Spring. When all of my flowers are bloomed out. And my roses are looking VERY healthy this year too.

In local news, early spring and late fall are the times I hate. It is very cold in the morning and I have to have a coat, and it is warm in the afternoon and I forget and leave my coat at w*rk, so they pile up at w*rk until I remember to take the pile of coats home.

Picked up some heavy hitter meds last night (Advil Cold & Sinus) to knock out whatever that sinus issue was that was starting.. I feel that much better today!!

This dark at 5:30 wakeup is so sad. I miss the sunshine.. BUT I get to see it later after work now, so I guess I'll live.. LOL. I need to hurry and get a 'new' family car so that my husband can stop driving his truck so that we don't have to carpool anymore! Then I can stop waking up at 5:30. :) hahaha.. I wanted to hide under my cover this morning when our alarm went off, haha.

I'm still alive. Just lots of working and now taking care of my mom. She's fine in the physical form, but her mental and emotional state is all over the place. Rightly so as they were married for 36 years, but she called me the other day flowering out because she didn't know what to buy to hang over her  bed because she didn't know what decor she likes. She always had to take my dad into consideration. It's been draining.

This up and down weather has my fibro in fits.

Brandon and I swapped cars. But now that he's in Tiny Car he has decided to buy an old S10 off his boss. Tiny Car is for school and the S10 for everything else. I however will just be driving the Scion [aka Leia].

Back to work. We had 3 people call in today. I'm on  the schedule to pull parts in the 'warehouse' but now I have to go delivery said parts to other AZs.

LOL. Every chance I get, I sleep in PAST the current wake-up of 5:30. Saturdays are my days to sleep until I wake up.. and with the little sleep I've been getting, I usually wake up for the day around 8:30 or 9 on Saturdays now. I still wake up when he gets up for work on Saturday, but I LOVE going back to sleep! LOL.  My normal wake-up for work would be 7am, but we've been trying to save on gas so we ride together to my work, and then he drives on to his. It's a mid-way point for us. SOON a new car tho!!

I love sunny days. Like even today.. tho it's a little cooler than I prefer outside, I still feel like it's a good day just b/c it's sunny. Natural Vitamin D (that comes from the sun too right?) is my drug of choice I guess, LOL.

I have been doing good not drinking much soda.. until today. I busted open a Pepsi earlier, and I'm nursing a Dr Pepper right now. I have my sweet tea waiting on me tho! It's caffeine free and I'm trying to avoid headaches, so I have been throwing in some soda or coffee to keep the headaches away! One day I'll grow up and kick my habits, haha. I want to like water.. I just don't like how it tastes most of the time unless I'm craving it!

I got enough tile to do the kitchen and dining room too. I just don't have the energy to do it now. We decided a long time back that carpet had no place in our home- gets too nasty too quick, especially with Chey and the fur babies. And we didn't like the laminate I put down around 10 years ago. So we decided to tile the entire house. I AM taking the laminate that I took up and repurposing it in the ham room/library.

Totally agree.

And in sharing, I bought a ton of flowers today and planted them, and not being content with planting a Red maple, while we were looking at the flowers, we saw a Japanese Flowering Cherry tree. Beautiful delicate pink blossoms. I couldn't say no, so now we have planted said tree where the dogwood had lived until it died 6 or 7 years ago. Right next to the driveway.
Still got one more flowerbed/landscape deal to do, probably tomorrow.

Ended up having an unexpected day off with my husband. I was off work anyway but his classes got canceled due to snow. So naturally we are both working on different things throughout the house. I'm working on moving our library from the dining room to the spare bedroom since we've decided to actually get a dining room table. He is currently out working on his workshop. We moved so fast and dad had just gone into the hospital. We've been here for almost 4 months now and we are in the rearranging things that doesn't work phase.

Prayer meeting last night was amazing. It's like having an extra church service every week. I'm so thankful for my church [and the fact I can confidently say my church. shew.].

I just washed off a boat paddle and scrubbed out a 17.5 gallon feed bucket, the kind a farmer might use to feed his horse.

Do you have any idea how messed up that sounds in the context of bread making?

I'm getting 27 loaves out of it though... I won't have to make bread again for more than a quarter of a year.

This week has been chaotic at best. IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation) just.. creates chaos, LOL. We do a lot of work with/for them in our area, and while I like that you kinda know what the rules and regulations are, sometimes they get annoying hahaha..

Nevertheless. It's my lunchtime finally. I'm eating my leftover roast w/ sour cream & chive mashed potatoes. Yum. I may or may not be drinking a Pepsi. If you didn't see it, it didn't happen. :)

Been a busy day. Went and picked up Chey's bed frame we ordered for the antique headboard/footboard in her room, then spent part of the day in my favorite place- behind the wheel of Rusty. I also spent some time finishing up my flower beds. In sharing, I slept in today, then got to work on the ham room floor. I feel like I've been backed over by a loaded tanker truck, but it's done. I intend to spend the rest of my vacation- both days, aka, the weekend- doing nothing. This has been the working-est "time off" I've ever had....

Yesterday was a (bleep!) of a day. We had three people call in "sick" for lunch and two people call in "sick" for supper. On a Saturday, yeah, right. There's some mysterious illness that keeps affecting our workforce, but only on Saturdays.

Also I had to clock out at 5pm exactly or I would get overtime. So I had to leave stuff undone. I hate it when that happens. But it wasn't my fault and I got all the stuff done that would keep things rolling for evening shift (mostly stocking) so hallelujah anyhow.

Well. I spent yesterday, after sleeping in, riding around backroads in Rusty with a good friend all day long. And, since our 10 year old dryer was making very expensive sounding bad noises, I went ahead and went to Lowes, where I found the mate to our new washer we bought several months ago on sale for under $300. I figured I better replace the dryer while we had tax refund money to do so, or it would die just when I needed it most and could least afford it, so I brought the new dryer home.
That means that in approximately the past year, I have replaced the roof, floors, washer, dryer, and hot water heater. All this in a "nice" home... :pound: Hopefully nothing else dies for a few years, because that mess is expensive!

Monday's being a Monday.. I feel better than I did last week about the whole sleep situation, but I do need to make a better effort to go to bed earlier tonight!

We are officially scheduled to go to Nevada to spend a week with Jeremy's best friend and family in September. I was told that I couldn't visit again unless we were pregnant... but I'm going to have to break their hearts I think, LOL. I am excited about visiting b/c I've never been ON Nevada land.. just in the air while passing over.  I think we are going to go camping in Yellowstone for a few days. I'm just hoping I don't have any personal encounters with bears or bison LOL.

But I guess ham radio stuff keeps you out of Lou's hair a lot. I also like the "desk" you made. This is the first time I've seen it.

What's the foot pedal for?

The foot pedal is to key the mic up when I want to talk, so it isn't broadcasting the next time I wanna sing When God Unfolds the Rose. :ugly: It should be noted that it has a musical background- I stole it from one of Lou's keyboards. It worked so well, I pretended to not have any knowledge of said device's absence when she looked for it, and it has been right under her nose for quite some time. :hypocrite:  I made the boom myself, out of a cheap yardsale lamp. The desk- came out okay. I'm considering painting the bookshelves and it an off white, and rehang the map to where it is centered, because while the desk and bookcases are centered perfectly, the map make it look like it is not.
And here lately Lou's been keeping me outta of my radio's "hair". :pound:

And Jenn, I've been using Jerm's recommendation of IBB or something for pics. SUPER easy....he recommended it a few posts back.

Nelle, I'm jealous. I've never been to Nevada, or Yellowstone, and both are on my bucket list. Lou doesn't like to ride that far, and I don't fly..:sadbounce:

I'm a little nervous about Yellowstone with all of the wildlife and the weird things you read about the ground rippling and all. haha.

We're both going to take vacation that week, and hopefully we can afford to save back the money for the plane tickets and whatnot. The drive is 25 hours for us to their house, and that is a LONG drive, but I have no doubt that it would be incredibly gorgeous. Much faster to fly tho, so that's what we'll be doing, haha. Hopefully we can catch a deal on tickets and not spend so much $$.

Jeremy's hoping that when I visit, I fall in love with the area and don't want to live here anymore, haha.

Nelle, are we making book on that? What are the current odds? I'd put $150 on a 5:1 against you deciding to move there.

Of course I don't really bet. But I do consider it highly improbable that any sane person living where you live would want to move there.

Bobby: Yeah I thought it looked like a keyboard sustain pedal, and I couldn't figure out what you were using a sustain pedal for. But a sustain pedal for an electric keyboard is a simple on/off switch, so yeah it could work for that.

I'm gonna have to look at that boom again in the pic. You made it from a used floor lamp? Not bad!

LOL. I'd have to say the odds are against it happening myself. I know I will love the land and the people, but the church placement is so sparse there. Plus it's too far from my parents. :)  Just being the Illinois vs Nevada, Nevada would win hands down. Politically and financially, Illinois is just dangerous - especially Southern Illinois. It's a beautiful area as well, in different ways than Nevada. I'm also just not big on change, haha.

Getting my morning at work started. I went to bed earlier last night but I was still SO sleepy this morning. Hopefully if I can get on a schedule of that every night, I can get back in the swing of things again. :)

The weather app this morning sent a message, "Spring and snow.. in the same day." LOL..

You should return to the Promised Land, aka Arkansas. We Favored People (those blessed to grow up in this paradise known as Arkansas) don't really do well in Yankee Land OR deserts. Now desserts, that's different, but I digress....

Hi y'all. Stumbling through another day of work. Tomorrow will be a long day in Texarkana for training, then work on Thursday, then I'm off for three days. Unfortunately, that appears to be the last bright spot of time off in the foreseeable future until Memorial Day. :pound:

Made it through the incredibly boring training. Treated myself to one of my favorite, although pricey, BBQ joints. Just got home to hear Lou complaining about the new dryer. It's not drying right. After consulting repair man google, I determined it is most likely the vent hose that appears to have been crushed on one end. I've repaired it I think- waiting on this load to see if it is now drying properly. If not it is back to Lowe's. I ain't paying good money for something that don't work. How do you mow around all these antennae? Do you do a LOT of weed-eater work or do you just spray weed killer around the bases?

Get a few more put up and you could have a paintball fight among them, using them for cover.

When people think of ham antennas, they think of broadcast towers, ect. Truth is, most are just pieces of wire, like you'd wire a speaker system to, cut to the length needed for a particular frequency, and strung between supports or trees. I've got an apartment dwelling friend ("Snoop" who used to check in here a couple times) who has a piece of wire ran out his window and screwed into the apartment's metal gutter. He talks all over the US and has made overseas contacts as well with it. Of course I torment him about his mind and mouth being in the gutter....
Most of the antennas I have are simple wire antennas. I have a pulley system on my tower, and can attach the "feed point"- where the coax attaches from the radio- on the tower, pull it up, and string the ends out to a convenient tree. Most of them, after they are up 40 to 50 feet, can't even be seen, and the yard stays clutter free.
I DO plan on putting up a couple more 40 to 50 foot tall towers, but they will be on the far corners of my property and will not be unsightly either, especially since there are trees near where they are. Basically, they'll blend in for the most part, too.

Nope nope nope nope.

Which is odd. I can walk around on a steep roof with the confidence of a mountain goat, but the ladder going up to the roof gives me the collywobbles.

If you don't climb, how do you get your wires strung up there? Toss them over a limb and hope they land just right?

OOPS. I learned my lesson about locked in keys on a traffic stop years ago. Stopped a guy, wrote him a ticket, went up and had him sign, and came back to my police car as he drove away to discover the windows up, the a/c kickin', and me locked out of it on the side of the road.   Really embarrassing to call dispatch and have another officer bring me a spare key. Every since then, I've had a spare key on a separate keychain, used to have a spare key in the wallet, and always hit the "down" button on the window the minute I hit the blue lights.

LOL. I know! I sometimes will roll my window down on my car as well if I get out for something and my keys are in the ignition. A friend of his called a relative and they worked on that truck door for half an hour and got nowhere. So this morning I was late to work because I took Jeremy to work and then went down to the Chevy dealership with the title to the truck and paid to have a key made. Best tip I ever read on Google. LOL. So now we have two keys at least. :)

Tonight is our annual business meeting, which means I get to read the report out to the congregation. I hate reading out loud like that to people.. Whoa. I never thought about unplugging that. I made sure the important things- the ham radio equipment-was unplugged. Guess I should start unplugging that too.
It's tapered off raining now. Hopefully it's done. I NEED about 3 dump truck loads of topsoil, to basically raise the back yard by about a foot or so. That would fix my drainage problem I think.

Revival was amazing but it threw me off not having church on thursday.

Brandon has started going to church with me when he can.

Mom is even moving Easter/Cancer can inhale swiftly dinner to lunch that way I don't miss church. [we have service at 2:30]

I've started herbs in a flower pot. I've also got an aloe plant. In a couple weeks we are going to start a small container garden. Cucumbers, tomatos, and bell peppers. Also going to start my compost for next years raised garden beds. Also, I want an urban homestead. However, I don't think I can have chickens in the city limits.....

It's raining again. I appreciate the rain and how much we need it to survive, but is it too much to ask to have a little sunshine mixed in? I don't know how Alaskans do it with like that 6 months of darkness. The cloudiness kills my sinuses and my mood, haha.

Business meeting went fine. I'm always nervous that someone's going to ask a question and I'm going to look like a fool, haha. We are finally getting a new roof at the church! We've had a leak in our office for a while now and finaaaaaaally going to not have to keep hiding my electronics and keeping a bowl out to catch the water, haha. Also found a new leak last night above the drum set! We moved the drums around and put a bucket in there for that since it's apparently going to rain for the next 10 years. :)

Quote from: sunlight on March 28, 2018, 09:26:27 PMIt's raining, thundering, lightning, tornado watch here. Which mean cell phone signal booster is unplugged. So if you need me text- cause calls won't make it though. Lol!

Well- we live on the top of a hill now, and that being said have had 2 that we've had to replace and it gets kinda expensive. This one we have temporarily installed until Robbie has time to do it right- when that happens there will be lightning arresters in line on the antenna and surge protector on the power side so we won't have to do it then. But until then... we don't have extra cash to replace another one.

Live on top of a hill??? GREAT! Now, if Robbie can just use that to his advantage for the radio antenna.....which he apparently has forgotten about! :pound:

And I totally understand. Those things are expensive. I got lucky and bought our 3g model used for $70...

Laying here in the recliner considering one myself...Lou and Chey are at church making chocolate Easter eggs for a fundraiser for the youth group, and god forgive me, myself and the puppers are enjoying the peace. No arguing, no yelling, just blissful quiet...

I read an article the other day that reminded me of a question you once asked me...

A city in east Texas was forcing the demolition of a 3,000 sqft underground house. The article was from about 7 years ago, but it was the nicest of the underground homes I've ever seen. The guy thought everything out. He painted the views of the areas near the house on the windows and had lights on timers and dimmers to make it look like the sun rose in the east of the house and set in the west. He even had one of those old small peanut shaped pools underground.

They lived in it for 15 years the sold it. The second owner lived in it until it was condemned because of the amount of asbestos that was used when it was constructed. Above ground, there was a rock sculpture with a waterfall that helped filter pool water that could be turned off if a nuke was dropped. In the side of the sculpture was the "front door".

I am currently engaged in a battle of wit(less)with Roscoe.

I would also like to point out that he is being entirely unreasonable.

I think we can call that battle a draw. I also would point out that I am the most reasonable person you will ever meet and you, my friend, are unreasonable, argumentative, and as hardheaded as a Missouri Mule.
But I love ya like a brother anyway. 'Specially since I had the pleasure of 1)Eating Hogpen ribs and 2) sending you pics, knowing that you were 40 miles from the nearest bbq joint. :fork: BBQ dinner-$12 Sending Mini pics of the ribs and hearing his whining and moaning from the next state over, via text- PRICELESS.
He even tried to get my coworker to assault me, telling me  "Ask her (my coworker) politely to beat you with a club for me".

Where be everybody? I've mowed the church yard, my yard, and Brent's yard today. Feel like I've been ran over by a truck- that mower needs shocks! Soaking for an hour in a hot Epsom salt bath helped though.. Now I'm gonna just veg for the evening.

Bobby I know the feeling. Our back yard has moles, and when I mow it sometimes it is a rough ride. Only time it got better was when I had my sweet little cat Nancia. She was forever hunting prey.

You are not reasonable.  Nor are you nice.  Sending me pictures of one of my favorite bbq spots in the world when I was stuck in the wasteland, void of any and all bbq, filled with despair over the lack of said bbq.

Eating a frozen pizza for lunch. What a weekend.. glad it's Monday so this evening after work I can rest. LOL. I'm thankful the rain held off so that the kids could hunt their eggs yesterday. It may have been chilly but the pavement was dry! LOL. We have a huge yard at the church and it's a swamp for Easter every single year!

Work is getting busy again contracts-wise, so this means my workload is going to increase. I haven't had as much free time as I've normally had this winter.. so I'm not really looking forward to this, haha. I am glad that the increase in contracts means that we won't have to lay off any more electricians tho! Glad we can keep business booming even if it means more of a headache for us office gals.

Missing my family lately. Really want to go down some weekend soon to spend the weekend with them. Jeremy won't be able to go due to his schedule, but I think I'm gonna have to sacrifice and go on LOL.

Back at work. Spent all morning testifying in a revocation hearing, and fighting a buffer. Quickly determined that I am not janitor material.
Now patiently awaiting 430...
