But what if elves do genuinely come up? St Patty's day is upon us. Are leprechauns included or excluded from elves?

Excluded. Cause if we can't talk to roscoe that would be hard for a whole sharing thread. :halo:

Wait! Is y'all calling me an elf? Or a leprechaun? OR a dwarf? I need clarity so I know exactly what to get offended about. :eyebrow:

Lol! Roscoe- in all seriousness- I can't remember how tall you are- if you are taller than me or not.

He is only taller than you if you have shrunk in the last month or so. Or if he has bought new elevator shoes.

My son & family headed up to near where Cheese lives. That's a long drive from here.

:hi: Cheese is a longways from anywhere. Like, directions should say, "drive to the middle of nowhere, take a left and drive another hour."
And FWIW, I'm 5'7ish.
Built much like my favorite gun caliber, the .45. Short and round, and do a whole lotta damage when I'm fired off.

Man. I've been busy this weekend, and haven't had time to check in. Had to work today, had a kid that can't qualify at the academy, so I had to go to the range and try to get him to shoot right. It was a wasted cause, I believe- it'll be a miracle on par with the Red Sea parting if the kid passes.  I made it to church, still in overalls, and my tummy was bothering me. Now I feel 70 years old, with a sore back to boot, and I HAVE to go to work tomorrow because I have so may people scheduled...

:hi: Morning. Eating Oats and Apples, getting ready for the day. If it weren't enough that I feel like a swaybacked old Nag, now Lou's feeding me horse food. :sadbounce:
Okay, she bought this stuff for herself, but I was hungry, so I stole it. Not bad. Gonna be a busy day, I'm thinking....

Living in a Pastors House, 2/26/19

3rd night in a row I've woke up around 2 to 3 am. I get up quietly, go into the living room, kneel down and begin praying.

After a while, I hear Gracie The German Shepherd emerge and make her way down the hall. I can tell she's a little groggy from sleep by her steps.

I hear her come into the living room, and in a sudden burst of doggy joy, she seemed to say "Jeremy is here! What a relief! I must tell him how thankful I am that I found him! "

She jumps up on the side of my chair, gives me a rapid-fire, multiple shot wet Willy in my ear, and completely interrupts prayer.

So if you didn't get prayed for, now you know why.

I think you need to do a kids book of Gracie's adventures. It would be hilarious for an illustrated childrens book.

Way to go, Heather.   Been a busy day even though I didn't  come in until 1030. I dont get off until 7 though...
Currently trapped in a boring mandatory meeting.  Every month they do this. Hash over the same old stuff...seems to me it is a colossal waste of time.

I drank about 6oz of coffee and several packets of sugar and two creamers... working on a Pibb Xtra can.. had spaghetti for lunch. I've taken two doses of advil so far today, plus some Allegra. I feel much better than when I first woke up at 3am, but still kinda blech. Grabbing some stronger meds at the pharmacy after work. I wish the pharmacies were open when I left for work.. lol. Thankful that today hasn't been so bad. I just knew I had strep when I woke up haha. Probably was just irritated and dry.

Jeremy's first therapy appointment today for his elbow. He's been prayed for twice so I'm expecting some improvement asap. He rolled his ankle yesterday while walking/working. I told him to RICE it last night, and he said it's a little better today, but he's put a compression sleeve on it. I told him to get advice from the therapist today to see if there's something he could do better for it since he does walk 12-15 miles per day on that poor ankle.

A nap is needed, but will not be taken today. I'd give up my dedicated lunch hour for a nap hour, haha.

Shew. Made it through the day. My caseload has now dropped from 200-ish active felons to 130-ish. That is a huge relief to me...
Now to power through the next hurdle which is a week long boring class in March. Oh, and I might be taking a part-time police job temporarily. It'll be just to keep my certification and won't last long, but it'll also let me pick up an extra couple hundred bucks a month if I want it..

Yes. I have zero intentions of EVER leaving my job until retirement, but the cold hard fact is this: 1) I have no degree and 2) All I've ever done is Law Enforcement and factory work. If something should happen, I NEED to be able to fall back on Law Enforcement because I know I can't go back to a factory or back through another academy.
Due to Arkansas' Parole setup, parole officers are "Specialized Police" which doesn't allow me to keep my higher, much better  full time certification. If I want to keep that, I have to get an agency to hire me for 20 hours a week or more at least once every three years...
God willing I'll never need it, but I'd rather be prepared in case.

I didn't have time all day to log on. Wound up driving around 200 miles or so to assist another area with a transport, and then saw all of my scheduled offenders. Went and picked up Lou's new car- still have to finish paperwork on it, but it appears like it is a done deal. Tomorrow- a road trip again, a ton of paperwork, and then a blessed weekend. But at some point this weekend, probably Sunday, I'll have to go to the office and finish up some purely stupid to me questions for the upcoming week long class..

Let's see- still have the '46. The Jeep. The Canyon, which is currently in need of work and is not driven. The Stude, which is likewise condition. And Lou's "new" Lincoln. I won't count her previous Lincoln because Kim is buying it. There WILL e another addition within the next month or two, but it's an Oldie so it don't count.

Praying for y'all ,Heather.

Been a long day, and I haven't been in the office much. I'm sitting at home now, bailed out and took 2 hours of my comp time from Sunday..

MIL is home as of last night. She made an amazing recovery considering how things could have turned out had husband not threatened her to go to the ER. However, my pastor and his wife showed up at the hospital right before she got released. Not only did it make a connection to them, but it meant a HUGE deal to husband so YAY.

Was called into work today to make up some missed time for the hospital. I now don't have a day off until NEXT sunday. Granted Thursday evening to Saturday I'll be at TN Ladies Conference. So technically work days off, but are they really?

It's cold here again. That rodent that predicts weather better not show his hide here, or I'll have it tanned and turned into a fleece lined blanket. Went in late last night and finished the nagging little items for the class a week from Monday. Got back home around midnight, couldn't sleep until 2am.
Tomorrow will be a busy day. Several people scheduled to come in, and I think that's when we have to go sign papers on the car.
It's sad that, even though I enjoy my job, I still wind up "pre-dreading" the work week.

And in other news- there's a large pot roast with carrots and potatoes cooking. I'm fixing to make some cole slaw and we gonna eat right this afternoon before church...reminds me of my childhood when this was a Sunday tradition. Daddy didn't go to church, but I remember leaving the house with mama to go to church and Daddy would be in the kitchen, putting a roast on so that when we got out of church we would have a great dinner.
Funny how the older you get, the easier it is for memories to ambush you. Just a smell, or a simple act like cooking a roast, and I'm dawdling off through thirty years of memories, enjoying them- with a touch of pain from missing those that meant everything to me.

Home for lunch. Worked at the Zone this am and going in for my working interview at the animal hospital this afternoon.

I have a weird problem. My mom went on a date this weekend. I have such a jumble of mixed emotions about it. It's been 14 months since dad passed. My mom is only 53. She's young. I don't want her alone. But it's still soooooo weird!!!!!

Heather - I think that's hard for anyone that's ever experienced it. I can't imagine either of my parents with anyone else, but I hope I would be able to get past it for their happiness. Doesn't minimize the weirdness of how it would feel tho! Kinda like if I dwell on if I passed away and Jeremy getting remarried, haha. It's weird to ponder.

@Work. I've not recovered yet from Tuesday's sickly onset. Jeremy went to the VA yesterday and I think they basically told him he has a cold/sinus congestion. I'm ready to stop coughing (seriously.. tickles in your throat should not make you cough lol) and having congestion. I also would like good long sleeping at night. :)

Our "bosses" just left for a Jamaican vacation today. One of our suppliers has a program where you buy from them a certain amount over the year and they give you a certain amount of trips. Part of me wishes I could go, but the other part of me is glad I don't have to travel on a plane and deal with the supplier while you're there, etc. lol.. Altho the sun and no work would be niiiice.

I'm also over the cold. I really hate extreme anything, because I like average haha. I'm going to complain just as much this summer about being so tired of being hot, as much as I've complained about being so cold. I like snow, it's pretty, but it's clingy and needs to find a new place to go. :)

:hi:
Monday behind me. Received approval of my action plan for the upcoming class. Now I remember why I abhor the idea of returning to college.
Went by and signed papers for Lou's car, then went by the dealership and paid for it. I was kinda annoyed by the dealer, as he acted almost irritated by me buying the car. I'm spending what to me is a HUGE chunk of money, and all you did was hand me the keys and fill out two pieces of paper. The least you could do is pretend to be happy about the sale....
Then on the way home, I figured out why he wasn't the happiest.. He'd priced me the car thinking I was trading in Lou's car, which he would have paid me $5-6k for and sold it for $8k. Then I contacted Kim, and sold it to her for what I owed, which deprived him of the $2-$3k of profit on Lou's old car.

So he probably didn't make much at all on the sale of the new car to us. His price WAS very competative compared to other MKX's for sale in the area. I truely didn't mean to skin him to the bone, but I still feel like he kinda got to me when I bought the Jeep last summer, so I feel no guilt. Most dealers will say and do anything to sell a ride.

Hugs to PF's sister [as long as she's the hugging type] and family.

Work interview I felt went well yesterday. I was there 5 hours. Leave for ladies conference in 2 days and still haven't done anything to prep. No laundry. Not even sure where my suitcase is. Haven't cleaned out the car. I'll get to it at some point I suppose.

Just home on lunch, grabbing a sandwich then back for 4 more hours. I started looking forward to my nap today last night right after dinner.

Was cleaning out a hoarders house. You can now see the tile floor in part of one room, and the counter in the kitchen. Tons more to do... as long as he stays on board and can keep it up. This is the most progress he's allowed in over 5 years.

Hoarder as in interesting items? Or hoarder as in old pizza boxes, newspapers, ect? Cause I've seen both..
I worked for a woman one time as a teen...her farm was immaculate. Barns were neat, trucks clean, especially for a farm truck,  she was always neatly dressed. Then she took me in to get a drink one hot summer day. Newspapers stacked as high as your head, boxes upon boxes and bags of trash- and a neat path that you had to turn sideways to get through , from her kitchen, to her chair where she slept, to her bathroom. Blew my mind. It's truly a mental disorder I believe.

Morning all. Back at work. Today I have office visits. Tomorrow is home visits. Then that week long class... Ready to get it over with and get to vacation.

An even mix of the 2 I believe. He grew up with nothing. Like- nothing as in couldn't even have food for 3 days nothing. So he sees value in everything. Part of it is easy- because it's just trash. Old mail. Old food containers. And part of it is hard. Old computers, a tttoonnnn of tools, stuff left from his wife that he's had a hard time letting go of, and food. A stockpile of food.

This is true. My grandmother grew up in the Great Depression. Very rough. In her later years, she was financially comfortable, but never overcame her habits from not having enough to eat as a child. I remember when I was in my early 20s, my family travelled to New York to see her.
She rationed my grandfather to two hours of TV and lamp a day because of the electric bill. Heat was set at 40 degrees- they would wrap up in blankets and look out the window. They went to bed when the sun went down, again because of the electric bill. I took her and grandpa to Mcdonald's and paid- at the time, around $25. My grandmother nearly have a fit telling me how much money I wasted, and how I shouldn't have done that for them. She then proceeded to cut her sandwich in half and carefully saved it and half of her fries "for supper".

Loved her to pieces, but she told me that she could remember how it felt to not have anything, and she would never do that again. Sad that her childhood impacted her to that point, and she died an old woman, living like a pauper..I have no idea what she actually had monetarily when she passed, but my aunt (who deserved every dime, since she took care of Grandma while the rest of the family moved away and were busy with their life) apparently did well. Family lore is that Grandma had a decent little nest egg while living broke.

Welp, I slept in. Now I've gotten up, late, and discovered that one of my parolees have been arrested with mucho stuff, including guns. Due to the fact that 1) I have 5 days to submit a parole board report and 2) I'm out of the office for two weeks, I have two options. !) leave it for coworkers or 2) go do it tonight and miss part of church.
I hate to, but my coworkers are covered up, and probably would not do it the way I will, so I am fixing to go to work. Maybe after a trip to the jail and the work, I might catch a little of church. :smirk:

was able to hold one of our sweet little babies during altar service at church. someone commented that i looked good with a baby. i commented back i look even better as an auntie without one.

went by my moms to pick up leftover chili and as i pulled away from her house, her quasi-boyfriend was pulling in. it was weird. like i told her, i'm happy for her [and for someone to tag in so it's not me having to do everything all the time] but i don't want to see him sitting on my dad's couch in my dad's house. it's just weird.

now to make some noodles to go with our chili and cheese and get in some jammies for the evening.

Just got back from work. My parolee got THIRTY new charges. Guns, drugs, stolen stuff...you name it. The funniest part-  He had business ledgers with him detailing who, what when, where and how much "product" (drugs) he had sold. And while on the way to jail, his phone began loudly giving directions to his destination- a local drug house. NOT where he claimed he was going, and I think the local PD got another bust off of that. LOL. Obviously not a smart crook.

If you are gonna do stuff like that 1) DON'T carry your businees ledgers with you. 2) Turn ya phone off before the cops get there 3) DON'T get in the truck with a drunk driver....

I actually laughed while doing the Violation Report.

Wow.

Bobby, as I understand it "parole" is basically letting former offenders loose under supervision to see if they will try to change their lives and do better this time. So I'm guessing in this case that is a definite "No, he's not trying to change." :p

I work with a guy who is on parole. Used to be a drug seller. He doesn't sell drugs now of course, but he still talks a lot about it and the only reason he doesn't sell drugs now is because he can't see a way to get away with it. He honestly does not see where there is anything wrong with selling drugs.

On the bright side, at least you weren't scheduled to preach the sermon for the service you had to miss.

Since Bobby routinely berates us for not posting more, here is what has been happening in my exciting life lately.

Saturday I got the backup clone of my computer system out and used it to refresh my computer. It has gotten somewhat cluttered lately. Something must have gone wrong because after I cloned the system over everything visual was lagging a lot. Oh great, the video card got messed up. Rather than trouble-shoot that for the rest of the day, I just wiped the system and ran a new clone from the backup. This time it worked great, and is still working fine right now. So far.

Folks, never buy a laptop with "hybrid" video processing. That means it has two video cards, the normal low-quality integrated chip and a dedicated high-powered video processor, and switches between them a lot. When there is little demand for graphics it will use the integrated card to save power, only switching to the good video card when there is something demanding to do. Unfortunately the system gets confused. It gets confused a lot. Bleh.

In music news, I found out a friend of mine at church likes music, but only recently switched to christian music, so he's not sure what he likes. My ears perked up. I'm always happy to make tons of music recommendations for anybody who asks. The only problem is getting me to stop talking about music. :D :D :D I went home and started sifting through my music collection to find stuff that matches the styles he said he used to listen to in secular music. I can't leave out any of the groups I chose, but my brother at church is going to get way more music than I think he ever expected.

A friend from church is supposed to be heading this way for us to have lunch and chat time together. Mom wanted me to cancel with her because she can't hang out this evening due to her man cub. [He's 11 years younger than my mom]. Sorry mom, that's not gonna work...

THIS JUST IN: McDonald's announced this afternoon they have completely sold out of Happy Meals (tm) and will now only be able to serve Grumpy Meals. These meals are marketed for cranky old people who like to complain about everything.

Grumpy Meals come with a burger and fries, because by God that's what we had growing up and it should be good enough for anybody. They also come with a cup of metamucil, a medic alert button and instead of games the sides of the box are covered with "Back in MY day..." lines.

Never get an Australian Shepherd. They can be smarter than you one minute, and dumber than a brick the next minute.

So Dan, my Australian Shepherd, is the first dog I have ever had to keep at home so he won't cause trouble getting into the neighbors' stuff. After the electric collar started cracking around the battery case and could not be used any more, I had him on a little 80 foot run on one side of the house (80 foot cable stretched between two trees, with his leash hooked to it so he could run in a long line) but he got bored and started sleeping a lot. So I stretched a cable all the way across the back yard, 280ft across, so he could see both sides of the house and keep informed of what is going on all around.

And it worked. He regained interest in the world and now spends most of his time trotting back and forth along his run. But now he has found the joy of getting his little 18-foot lead cable tangled around everything he can find to wrap it around, all along the run. I also have discovered the joy of having to check on my dog when I first get up in the morning, right before I head out, right when I get home and right before going to bed, to make sure I don't have to untangle him again.

This is the dog who fooled me into thinking I didn't have to change his collar's battery any more because he was always home when I was at home... because he figured out he could do his neighborhood gadabout routine at midday and I wouldn't know. How can the same dog NOT be able to figure out you go the other way around the pole (or wire or underbrush or stick or whatever you got your lead wrapped around) to get off it?

At least he is still intelligent in one respect. When he finds himself trapped he lies down and takes a nap. That's smarter than some humans I know. When you come up on a problem that stops you, and you can't solve it, most people would just keep worrying at it (and worrying about it.) The dog just catches a few winks and waits for me to untangle him again.

Urgh. I'm semi-functioning. Got an email yesterday that my boss tried to schedule me for my next step in the promotion process, an interview with the department heads- on Friday. The same Friday that I am completing the class I have to do before I can take the interview.
So I rushed around, and worked about an hour last night to get my assignment done. Then, I get an email a bit later- the head has decided to have me wait until the next interview date. So now I sit in class, while all of my coworkers furiously type away, and browse the web....

Well... you want a post, I'll post. Nothing much to post about though.

Wednesdays are my days off. I have developed a tradition of taking a nap on Wednesday. Today I took a nap rather earlier than usual. So now I have the rest of the day to kill.

I have a car with a hood that won't pop. The battery is dead so I need to get that hood up. Come to find out it's not the latch under the dash that is malfunctioning. That latch releases the hood, but the spring that popped the hood up doesn't spring any more. So now I'm going to have to figure out how to pull the latch and pull the hood up at the same time.

Busy day yesterday. CPAs here doing our yearly audit today and yesterday. I like these new ones tho. They're personable. I think I posted about them before. You don't really "feel" like you're getting an audit, even though you are answering a billion question and showing tons of paperwork haha.

Extremely windy today and yesterday. Storms last night & today. My SUV is a bit scarier than my Elantra with the wind. I kept slowing waaaay down to not feel so about-to-blow-over, haha.

Tomorrow night we are meeting up with Jeremy's old coworker/friend for his birthday with his girlfriend, his girlfriend's best friend, and his girlfriend's best friend's boyfriend (who is also Jeremy's new coworker). LOL. That confusing enough? I thought it was sweet that he wanted to invite us to his birthday dinner with his newer friends too. PLUS it's at our favorite Japanese restaurant. I couldn't say no to that. :) I'm nervous though because I haven't seen him in like 2 years and I've never met the other three people going.

Today is Mental Health treatment class. I came in feeling happy and upbeat, positive about life and in good shape. Twenty minutes later, after one of their exercises in which they wrote out the alphabet and named a symptom of depression on each letter, I found out that apparently I'm depressed, possibly schizophrenic, and in all likelihood eligible for what my Daddy called a "crazy check". LOL
I know that there are mental illnesses and depression is real- in part because I've battled depression myself in past years and dealt with the truly mentally ill in my previous jobs. But man, in some of this I think they are overreaching in diagnosis...........

Oh, and I'm a tad happy too... I'll try to make this simple....I have previously held pretty high certification in Law Enforcement.  When I took this job, as y'all know I went through another academy, after which they moved my certification to "Specialized". I was told in order to keep my fulltime credentials, I'd have to work at least a 20 hour part time job once every three years to "restart the clock".
So, while researching for the project required in this class, I found a hidden regulation. I had talked with the Main Man at Arkansas' Law Enforcement Standards and he had told me outright that the job-every-three-years was required.
I showed the regulation I found to one of my supervisors. Se is a personal friend of said Main Man and called him. After she gave him the regulation and he researched it and read it, he called back and stated that I was correct. A Regulation he was unaware of says that I can keep my certification and transition back to full time at any time, as long as I keep my continuing education up- which my present job more than does.
So to recap- I found a loophole even the head of standards didn't know about. It is law. And I don't have to work part time for "in case" scenarios. I am happy.

And Isaac, that's the cold hard facts of being a homeowner. ALways something to do. We've just had an abnormally wet couple of years, which has highlighted our lack of drainage. Most of the time, no issues at all.

Once again, No offense Jenn, but you could not PAY me to stay in Dallas. Our GPS directed me into the ghetto. I drove through rollin' on my 20s (Yes, Lou's car has 20s) with a grip on my strap, aka .45.
Apparently the GPS was mean to others too- I caught up to a quarter of a million dollar Prevost motorhome pulling a Hummer. He was the only one that looked more lost than I.
Tomorrow- the Alamo, and the Riverwalk hopefully.

Roscoe is afraid of the getto.  So he stays in a motel on the 2nd story of a convenience store.  What's more getto here?  LOL

Roflol. I thought that.  But I was surprised  to find that the motel over the convenience store was actually  quiet  nice. Weve made it to Temple. Eating breakfast,  should be at the Alamo area by lunchish...

And you couldn't pay me to live in your podunk Arkansas town where you have to deal with your own septic system lol  :girltongue:
Nooooo thanks. We have people to do that for us. :nono:

Have to agree with JenN on this one.

Of course our little Podunk town is basically all built on a really big hill, so we never have trouble with our septic system flooding out. But it has backed up before, and I found out we do indeed have people to deal with that.

Touché, Jenn. That's what makes the world go around, life would be boring if everyone was like me. In my defense though, I only deal with septic issues when it really rains. And we have people for that too, i just am too tight to pay them.

San tonio is beautiful. And exasperating. The Alamo was cool, but too crowded for much. The River Walk is amazing. But there's no parking to be found in the entire city apparently. We've enjoyed it though. Gonna make a side trip tomorrow to go over about an hour southwest to see my great grandmother and great great grandparent's graves, then head back Arkansas way. Gonna try to avoid the big cities if I can. Will probably be around Fuzzy's area- i hope to trick Lou into a side trip to Main Trading Center, a ham radio store in Paris.

I dislike Texas strongly.

Houston.  We rolled in at 9:30 pm. 12 lanes of traffic.  Ever driver is driving like they are in NASCARs spring training camp.  You are doing the speed limit and a 4 cylinder sedan blows by you doing 90.  Maybe that's what got me.  Most of the cars blowing by you are not cars intended to blow by you at any speed.

But what a skyline.  I bet they have more skyscrapers in their downtown than in the entirety of Oklahoma.

Ok...I looked it up.  Oklahoma City has 17 buildings higher than 250 feet.  Tulsa has 20 higher than 250 feet.  Houston's 52nd tallest building is 428 feet tall.

But I still don't like Texas.

Enjoying our trip. Almost back to the promised land... currently eating dinner just outside of Texarkana.
I'll sleep in my own bed tonight.  We drove kinda hard yesterday,  and got to see Sunlight and Burrito.  They fed us and let us stay the night,  and then fed us breakfast.
Weve puttered in the direction of home on back roads, delayed by Lou and her Goodwill stops.
Found a real cool general Store in Jefferson,  Texas. I was amazed that it had remained open for so long, as off the beaten path as it was. After I paid for two pieces of candy and two cokes, along with a souvenir magnet, I discovered  how. It dont take many people to pay the light bill when  you divide it between two customers.
Oh, and I got to drive a bulldozer and push things over while at Burrito's, which made a good day better.

Just FYI - Don't speed in Illinois, especially with out of state tags. They'll pop you faster than a kernel of corn pops with a bit of oil added. I always shake my head when people just zoom past me on the interstate. Usually Tennessee and Texas drives actually. We have an area by the state line around me that is KNOWN for popping people like crazy from either the City of Ullin or the State Troopers (also a station there in Ullin). I don't know why people don't heed the fact that most of us IL drivers are RIGHT on the money on the speed.. like.. that is a red flag to me as a visitor that something is likely to happen if I'm not doing the same. (I drive like this in other states.. I watch the local traffic haha)

Slept pretty well last night for the first time in like a month. Still waking up with headaches, and I am SOO ready for whatever this "sickness" is to leave completely. It's hanging on for its life, but I'm so thankful that it's not as bad as it could be! I am barely coughing, and I just have some daily irritation with sinuses (other than the headache).

I need a nap tho.. I'm so ready to go to sleep early tonight! :D

I grew up .5 miles from a Nascar track. I drive swiftly [especially on the interstate] but not like I've heard of Texas drivers. And the rest of my area definitely does NOT drive quickly. Soooo.....the Nascar thing doesn't really pan out there Jenn.

I'm having a really hard time with my attitude toward my mom. She says I will meet her new dude on my own terms, then 24 hrs later brings him into my workplace where I'm forced to meet him. Last week when I expressed I needed her the day after Topher she was too busy with her dude. This coming saturday [her birthday naturally] she's making it out that she has told him her kids take priority.....I'm waiting to see what her next contradiction is. It makes me not even want to talk to her.

Got up today and spent the day doing things I wanted to do. Like work in the yard. Still looking forward to the next couple of weeks when the petunias and such start hitting the stores so I can plant the window boxes, ect, but I at least got a jump on making my place look nice.
I also replaced Rusty's sparkplug wire and got two new tires on the way for him to replace the nearly bald ones on the back. They are around five or six years old, so I guess we've gotten our money's worth out of them.

And in other sharing- I have discovered that Texas' definition of "mild salsa" is NOT the same as mine. Lou bought some mild salsa while we were in Texas at one of those little flea market/ homemade salsa and jams type places. She cooked porkchops tonight, and one of my weird things is to drown pork chops in Salsa. I grabbed the jar she bought, dowsed my chops, and tied into them. What a delicious flavor- right up until the second bite, when it took the top off of my head. Holy mother of all that is good, what did they make this stuff with?!?!? Liquid fire roasted habaneros? Ghost Peppers? Dear Lord, it was viciously hot... but the flavor was so good, I ate it with tears running, and now I have a bad case of indigestion/ hole burned into stomach...

So Wednesday I changed the battery in my backup car, which had been sitting there about five months, turned the key and it fired right up.

Just a few minutes ago I put on my toe shoes, got out my bike and my legs fired right up. Just a quick five mile trip-around-the-(country)-block.

I think I will need a few more trips around that block before I am up to par for riding to w*rk and back again, but I had no problems. Spring is here!

We were supposed to have bigger storms Sunday but they were just a tiny roar, thankfully.

We are doing Missionary Sunday for Sunday School this coming Sunday. (I bet I could somehow work the word 'Sunday' into that a few more times LOL.)  We are spotlighting Ireland this quarter. I have purchased a few snacks from Ireland online from a store and the kids will get a chance to taste them. We're going to talk about the missionaries that are currently there, hopefully play an Irish kids game, and a few fun facts about the country. We'll also spend some special time of prayer for them. I believe this country's has at least one younger child as well, so I'm hoping I can get everyone to help me sign a card or something for them. I wish I could do a care package, but since I'm self-funding this spotlight every time as well as other SS endeavors, I'm not sure that's a possibility yet. Anywho .. I'm excited for it. I hope the kids enjoy it. I'm hoping that we will learn that there are others in the world other than us and ours, and that our prayers are important to help them.

I was thinking about doing the "What's Your Leprechaun Name?" but I'm terrified that something will be inappropriate. I'm going to have to test it out with their names myself first and then find my name tags and everyone will go by those names on Sunday during class, LOL.

About to leave work for the day. I'm feeling better again today. I slept pretty good last night, so I'm hoping that becomes the norm again! :D

So last Sunday night I was preaching because the pastor was out of town. The time I preached before that I had a tiny little bottle of water that didn't last very long.

This time I brought a gallon water jug onstage. Learn from your mistakes, right?

It was a good tension breaker though. Everybody chuckled every time I took a drink. I don't think I'll make it a thing to always use a gallon jug when preaching, but it was good to use once.

Was anyone worried about how long you would've been preaching? LOL..   Definitely better to have more than enough water than NOT enough. I've had to keep water with me all the time since we got since in February. I randomly get a cough/tickle and only water makes it settle down.

Lord , if I brought a gallon of water onstage, they'd celebrate. They'd know that I'd be short winded because water runs right through me...LOL.

Morning all. Lou could use prayer today- her store manager has requested a meeting with her at 1 pm to talk about her evaluation. She was given it almost a month ago- the entire store's evaluations were poor and it was the worst she had received in 15 years of working there. She stated that she had done nothing different, and her coworkers agreed....it was a stink and everyone in the store was angry about them, it seems like no one got an evaluation good enough for a raise.. It's a new manager, and I feel like he is trying to make a name for him self and keep from giving raises, and the only way he could do it was with poor evaluations.
Since he's requested a meeting with her, she is stressed out and needs prayer that she will say the right things.

I did mention right after hauling the gallon jug out that it might be a long service... And later, right after I took a swig, I remarked that there was still a lot of water left in the jug.

For all of that though, I was only there about half an hour or so.

Was another busy day. Had service tonight, was supposed to teach another installment on the holiness series I've been teaching. There was a different spirit in the house though. A lot of worship and reaching, but I couldn't get past a feeling that someone was struggling with their past.  I wound up not teaching, rather using two scriptures and exhorting/pleading.  A lot of prayer. I still feel like the one it was for didn't press all the way through.  All we can do is put what God gives out though...

Deviled eggs: Egg, mayo, blue cheese, lemon juice, dill weed.

Made 40 of them for church last night. No leftovers. Not even a smear left. Which is kind of a shame... I thought they would taste too strong for normal people and I was kind of looking forward to leftovers. Oh well, I can make more.

Her meeting really didn't go the best, but it could have been worse. Her store manager is without a doubt a jerk. He basically said her evaluation stood and accused them (the entire front staff) of not doing their job correctly. Every time she would ask for specifics and point out that they had not received training in this policy or that, he would say he'd look into it, then go back to accusing her and the coworkers.
Currently he is mad because the store is receiving bad reviews due to a remodel. The last time the store was remodeled, under a different manager, they had employees wearing special smocks actively walking around and providing guidance to customers. Their scores were good. This jerk has not put a single person on the floor to help customers, moved everything in the store, and blames the cashiers and customer service managers for the poor scores, all the while cutting the hours of the cashiers and Customer Service Managers to the point that they often have to run the entire store with 2 cashiers.

It's funny- for someone who according to him doesn't know store policy or do her job right, she has been the one they put working on Black Friday and any other high volume day for the last 15 years- every year. Seems to me like if she was what he claimed, they'd have a more competent person on those days.

It's not just Lou- he has done the same thing to at least two other longtime- 20 + year employees this week. I think he is wanting to run the old hands off - Lou has 15 years there. I told Lou to leave it in God's Hands and do the best she can. We are actively praying God moves him. In Lou's time of working there, every time someone has came against her, God has moved them out- fired, transferred, quit. He'll do it again.
Keep praying for her and the situation. It hurts to see her upset about this. She takes a HUGE amount of pride in her job and doing it well, and it has hurt her severely.
It's strange that she has gotten sterling reviews and evaluation the entire time she has been here, and suddenly is the worst employee ever. The only thing changed is the store manager.
The entire store is upset about it too.

Quote from: Roscoe on March 28, 2019, 04:02:32 PMIt's not just Lou- he has done the same thing to at least two other longtime- 20 + year employees this week.

Retail is HARD. Hiring and keeping good management is even harder.

I've worked for CVS for 17.5 years. I've seen my fair share. But God WILL take care of Lou despite the poor management. He's done that for me countlessssssss times throughout my job history. I even had a manager at one point making me physically ill. To the point one day I said "okay God...it's me or her cus I can't keep doing this." The next week I came in and found out she would be gone within the week.

God will give Lou strength AND peace. Sending prayers!

Please convey my sympathy Bobby. When you have a good work ethic, it really stinks having a bad manager.

One of the worst parts is you know it would be so much easier if you did not care... You can see plainly how much easier it would be... But that would be directly contradictory to your work ethic, so you cannot not care.

How did it go?

Been a long week. Went and got new tires put on Rusty tonight- I was a tightwad and bought the cheapest I could get at Walmart.com and had them delivered to the store and put on. As we were leaving the manager came out asked if the trailer tires were mine. I said no, I'd just bought the tires I had put on. He said okay, and I left. Found out later that they had put the wrong tires on Rusty, some more expensive ones, and the "trailer tires" he referred to were actually the cheaper tires I'd bought.... So tomorrow, I have to go back, tell them what they did , and offer to pay the difference. I sure don't want the shop crew to get into trouble, they are good people.

Maybe God was telling you Rusty deserves better tires than the cheapest Wal-Mart has...

That's like me feeding my dog the cheapest dog food available. I have tried that before. He looked at the food and looked at me like "What have I done to deserve this?"

Well, it cost me an additional $30- but integrity should have a higher price than that, IMHO. So I paid it. And Rusty had a dimmer switch going out- as in sometimes you dim your lights and had none. Problem was it was a new style on the column switch that was mega difficult to change and expensive. I channeled my inner MacGyver and found that Chevy trucks from the early 80s  had the old style "foot stomp" floor mounted dimmer switch- with the same plug that the column style had. So, what if? $12  and ten minutes work later, Rusty has his dimmer switch. AND it is in the floor where an old truck's dimmer switch should be. Kinda happy saving money, work and time.

I would usually automatically recommend getting your own "unlocked" phone and swapping sim cards... but it seems Xfinity doesn't support BYOP (bring your own phone) yet. They say they are working on it.

Went to church. Ate potluck. Came home and mowed the yard. This is one of my favorite times of the year....everything green and pretty, starting to bud out. Unfortunately they are calling for a freeze tonight. If everything goes right though, this'll be the last. My beloved petunias should hit the shelves within the next couple of weeks and I can get my window boxes planted. I'm going to have to replace 4 rose bushes, though, which have developed some disease.

Other summer plans, as I can afford it around the house 1) finish my French drain project to keep the septic functioning; 2) 36 foot long privacy fence; 3) build a 20x17 foot patio with new grill and smoker, maybe a fire pit and a swing...oh, and 4) rebuild doors on the shop;5) clean out carport room and install new freezer for the 1/4 beef we have coming.... And in the next week or so, haul a load or two of garbage and junk to the dump, on free dump day.
I don't think projects will ever end.

Maybe Chel can answer this one. I've been curious about it for some time...

It seems possible for standard stock camera apps to allow the user to take a short video, then scroll through the video frames and select the one to be used as a picture. This would eliminate much frustration when trying to get the perfect shot. I have not seen a stock phone that does this.

Of course one could do it manually with a short video loaded in a video editor, then screenshot. But I keep wondering why it is not a standard feature on phone camera apps. Surely technology has long since been capable of such.

I also had a manager situation like others have mentioned! They hired an asst mgr at the TJ Maxx. I could NOT stand him. He was always flirting with the female associates and I don't think he was exactly "manager material" either. I sometimes felt bad for being the one who took him down, but I really feel like he was not a good fit for the climate of the store (mostly due to his inappropriate behavior/language with the female staff). Unfortunately for him, I happened to be there when he broke a string of MAJOR no-no rules and he tried to hide it from me as well. I probably would have never known if I hadn't needed him to sign off on paperwork, couldn't get him to answer my page, and then paged one of the other girls to see where he was... and that's when she told me "He threw me the store keys, ran outside saying he had to go help his wife" .... You don't leave employees alone in your store when you're the only manager on duty. You also especially don't leave the keys with some part time kid. It was just all around bad judgement. I had to tell the manager when they came in for shift change about it, and I let them know my other concerns as well. He was replaced within a week or so. I'm pretty sure I was not the only person to share those other concerns as well. I don't "go after" anyone, but if I feel like it's inappropriate (and especially if I'm asked), I will let someone know. (He gave me the creeps.. and my radar has never been wrong yet.) Thankfully, he found other gainful employment and seems to be happy with it.

I work for a Pentecostal/Apostolic family who owns this business (electrical contractor), and they also wield the prayer weapon when they need to. A few non-Pentecostals who work here have told me about one time where they were praying that someone would 'move out of the way' on one of their projects because that person was causing SO much strife on the project itself. That person died. These coworkers were like "I'll never not take their prayers seriously." They obviously weren't praying for the person to die.. but over and over again, God has looked out for His children (in less lethal ways). Praying a protection over your wife, Roscoe. It's stressful I'm sure.

@Work - obviously since I'm typing away on here, LOL.

Had a busy weekend. Missionary spotlight went pretty well I think. Business meeting went without much hangup too. Successful weekend. back to the grind this week..

Ain't dunnit. I'm a big fan of apple products for people who just want a computer to work so they can get online and check facebook.

I'm also a big fan of missionaries using apple products. Almost as reliable as thinkpads. Whenever a missionary is going off to some country where you can't get ebay shipping I'm glad to see him taking an apple notebook.

I'm just not a big fan of using them myself. I like to do things Apple doesn't want its users to do.

I didn't know makers of apps had (finally) implemented that camera feature though. It's about time. We have had the technology for a decade or more now.

For the record 280ft of 1/8in braided cable is HEAVY! Especially when you are trying to string it taut between two trees 280ft apart. Also wrapping braided metal cable around your hand and pulling really hard can cut your hand in two.

I wound up winding up the cable in a figure 8 around the handles of my bolt cutters and using that as the pull-bar. And bracing my foot against the tree trunk. And praying a bit. And praying a bit more. But the dog run cable is strung up now.

Ok sharing: when driving a 1 ton manual diesel truck- it is fun to float gears in it.
Troubleshooting washer problems with my father in law is not fun- because he is 100% convinced the problem is one thing- till I prove him wrong- then he is 100% convinced it's another thing... till I prove that wrong. Germ has been busy tinkering with his old Ford in part..he has it driving now.

Myself, I've spent a very enjoyable day at the range, then came home, got Rusty and went up town to the local scratch and dent store and worked a deal on an additional small chest style freezer. Around $300 bucks at a retail store- I got it for $95 because some idiot at the warehouse put a forklift through the bottom panel. Bent the bottom up a bit, but I was able to pop that dent out. No leaks, and it works fine. I have my freezers in the carport room, so I don't care what it looks like.

Oh, and the reason for the freezer- we bought a 1/4 of a cow last year. It finally got butchered, So while I had the freezer in the back of Rusty, I ran over to the slaughterhouse and picked it up.I wound up with around 100 lbs of burger, steak and roasts. Enough beef for us through the majority of the year. $500 bucks. It'll give the budget a bit of relief over the next few months and is much better quality than anything a stoe would have.
Down side is,I gotta get off my tush and clean out the carport room to put the freezer in. Right now it is firmly in Rusty's spot in my shop...

Quote from: Lynx on April 06, 2019, 11:23:36 AMWait... you keep Rusty under cover? What happens if it rains on Rusty? He'll rust?

Rusty lives in my small 18' x22 ' shop. His own bedroom, and it has JUST enough room for him and one other oldie. Like Sam, he would fit in there perfectly. Since I didn't have much time last night, I let Rusty camp outside. He's not a show truck, has paint and occasionally gets a massage with boiled linseed oil to keep him protected and semi-shiny. I just prefer to keep him inside.
So today, I drove him to Bro Papa's where we worked on Fred the '51 Ford. Got Fred's front cap (front fenders and hood) put on, and one of his headlights and turn signals wired up and wires run for the other, before discovered we were short of connectors. We'll finish it later. I'm now majorly jealous of Bro Papa's new shop he put together.

I then came home and move the freezer into the empty spot in the shop and put Rusty back inside since it is apparently gonna rain this evening.
As soon as my trailer is returned, I'll start cleaning out the carport room.

Back at work. Had a pleasant surprise yesterday. I have two older sisters that are twins. I love them, but their lifestyles and mine are very different and we do not talk very often. No hard feelings, we just move in different circles. They have been out of church since they were teens.
One of them, Tami, called me Saturday night. Unprompted, she asked what time church was on Sunday, then told me if I would drive to Conway and give her a ride, she would come. I gave her the times and truthfully expected her to change her mind, but when I texted her Sunday evening, she responded that she was ready and waiting. Not only did she come to church, but god's Spirit moved and she spent some time crying and praying. While she didn't pray back through -yet- she told me she would definitely come back. After talking with her, she stated that it was probably the first time in 40 years she had been to church other than funerals and rare special events.
I know my Mama was rejoicing just seeing her come into the church.

Love that!!!

I was watching my home church POJ last night and watched a guy get baptized that had gone to the church when I moved but had left. He was married then, now divorced and remarried etc.. been through a lot. I watched with tears flowing .. his grandma or mom (I can't keep that family tree straight, sorry) just DANCE all over that platform after he came out of the water. It was so beautiful. He had apparently been REALLY blessed that morning in service as well. It makes my heart happy to see people coming back! God LOVES them and I can only imagine the celebration in Heaven!

Thankful your sister is allowing her walls to open around her for Him to work in her!! Gone ahead and made me tear up at work.. lol.

Eating lunch. Leftover hamburger from Friday night. Yum. I'm thankful I have no stomach issues today so that I can enjoy a lunch!!

Beautiful day. Drove Rusty over and retrieved my trailer from Brent- he'd had it for a month or so.  Gotta spend the next few evenings cleaning out the room off the carport and loading it up for Saturday- it is free dump day then.

Still have a few things to do on my list of projects. Hopefully I'll be able to get them done this year..

Enjoying this lovely weather. I'd enjoy it more if I wasn't at work, but if I wasn't at work, I wouldn't get paid and wouldn't have a house or car or anything to eat.. LOL.

They have the a/c on because it's supposed to be in the 70s outside. My feet were cold (I have a cardigan on over my outfit so I'm warm there thankfully) so I have my heater on my feet.. LOL.

it was beautiful today. Sadly I spent the majority of it in a court room. It was a soft drink court date- of my offenders, "7 up"- 7 sent to prison. Then I came home and put t bones on to grill, while I cleaned out the carport room and moved the freezer in. The T bones were delicious.

What is the general success rate for probation? I know you talk about the ones who flunk because they are the ones that cause you trouble, but I'm curious how many don't flunk out versus how many do.

I don't know the exact number, but I suspect somewhere around 54% Recidivism ( reoffending to the point of being sent to prison)- That's the last numbers I heard, but it encompasses parole and probation. Difference being- Probation= term of supervision given in place of a prison sentence, basically a prison sentence over your head; Parole= offender is sent to prison and released early to serve the remainder of their sentence on supervision. That would mean less than half actually succeed in staying on the right path.

They compute that over a three year period. I personally feel the numbers are skewed and do not reflect the truth. I don't have numbers to back it up, but I would suspect from my dealings with felons, fully 8 out of 10 will wind up back in legal trouble at some point in their life. Sadly real change is rare. But having said that, there's not much more rewarding than to see someone who once had severe legal issues turn their life around. I currently have a parolee who did 15 years in prison before being released on parole (drug manufacturing). He has remarried, bought a nice home, has a good job and a good life, and now spends every Sunday in a jail- preaching and giving his testimony. No, he doesn't believe the same as we do, but no one can deny the very real change in his life.

And in other sharing- spent all day doing home visits. Tomorrow, it's off to Camden, 3 hours away, for a "train the trainer" firearms class that I'd rather be punched than attend. But closer to the weekend- which is free dump day so I can get this place cleaned up..

Yes. I got up this morning thinking it was not supposed to rain until this afternoon. I had plenty of time to haul the trailer load to the dump. Wrong. It started raining early. I got soaked unloading it. Good thing is that's a trailer load of junk gone even if I did get wet. Kim called , telling me that she thought she heard me say I was making cinnamon rolls. Problem was, I hadn't talked to her in a few days. I took the hint and have cinnamon rolls rising. Oh, and a pan of poppy seed chicken in the oven now.

Shew. Now I can catch up. Sunlight, I'm glad that the storm missed y'all. I started to text you guys, then figured if the storm was hitting that area, you probably had better things to do than answer a text.
I got up today and drove an hour and a half north of me to pick up a passenger seat for the jeep. Ours has been broken since we bought the jeep, so I've had an eye out for one, as a new one is $200. Marketplace came through- nice condition and matching colors for $50.

Had to teach tonight last minute, the lesson I had planned for Wednesday night. I made it through, but I REALLY would've preferred to have my usual time to study it a bit more, rather than the 10 minutes during worship service. Oh well. Hopefully God took it and made it what it was supposed to be.

Tomorrow will be somewhat busy, but I just looked at my schedule for the rest of the week. I don't know what got into me, but I don't think I have anyone scheduled the rest of the week. Very unusual.

In local news, sourdough starter is an unpredictable beast, but a very, very slow one.

My bread reserves were low so I used my normal Wednesday off to make a batch of bread. The starter was not propagating like it should, so instead of mixing up the dough Tuesday night I let the starter sit until Wednesday morning. Still wasn't doing right, but I mixed up bread dough anyway. Let the dough sit a few hours, no rising at all. I kneaded it a second time and put it in loaf pans anyway, hoping the yeast would catch up.

EIGHT HOURS LATER the dough started rising. Just in time to get ready for church. I had a hectic night last night, shuffling bread in and out of the oven around picking up bus kids and taking them home. Good thing I live four minutes from church.

Moral of the story: Never get involved with sourdough unless you have no life. People with lives of any kind don't have time for this junk.

Isaac- in regards to the things we've discovered doing sex offender checks- well, even being a cop for nearly 20 years doesn't cause you to see THAT.

Hi, all. Finished the sex offender round up. Now it is raining like the second day of the Genesis Flood. I am tired of rain. Storm blew through last night, snapped a branch off of one of my trees, and nickel to quarter size hail hit around midnight. That striking a metal roof was LOUD.
Supposed to be pretty this weekend, then back to rain next week..

Metal roof... heh! I grew up in a house with a metal roof. Gentle rain was soporific but a heavy storm would keep you awake.

What was worse, we had two english walnut trees right near the house. Every time one of those green cannon balls dropped, BAM!

I was actually a little disappointed after we put the metal roof on. I grew up living in an OLD house (built in the early 1900s) with a tin roof. If I remember right the tin was nailed directly to the rafters, I don't think it had any sheathing under it. When it rained, it was an amazing sound. Some of the best sleep I ever had came from rainy nights under that old roof.
When we put the metal roof on our house, I knew it wouldn't be as loud, due to the underlayment and sheathing, but I'd hoped for a pleasant thrumming on the roof in a rain storm. Not to be, mostly it is silent- but the hail hitting it made it talk.
It's STILL raining. Not hard, but very much still here..

I laughed about the walnut trees. Jeremy wasn't use to them at my parents' house. The first night he ever slept there, I thought he was going to have to find shelter. He was spazzing out everytime one hit. LOL. He's better about it now even though we all find it annoying that they fall and hit, haha.

Hope no one claims it.
And I hope everyone had a great Easter. We had an early church breakfast followed by a church service. Was out by 10 am. I  came home, mowed the lawn, went to Russellville and picked up some plumbing supplies to fix the shop bathroom. True to form, I fixed the water issue, only to discover that a piece of the drain has came loose under the floor. This means I'll have to remove a piece of siding to get to the drain and fix it. Hopefully, I'll get that done tomorrow night- it got dark on me tonight.
I think I'm gonna go shower and crash early tonight. Tomorrow promises to be a nightmare...I have a gazillion people scheduled.

I have a small problem that I wish all of y'all were here to help me with.

In my town we have a lot of community services where all the churches in town get together - Thanksgiving service, a church service at the city park in May, and of course Easter Sunrise service. This year our church was hosting Sunrise service. After church of course everybody adjourns to the fellowship hall to eat breakfast.

I took a notion to make an egg dish, but I didn't want to do the standard sausage/egg/cheese casserole that everybody else would no doubt be doing. So I got a recipe from a friend for buttermilk pie. The recipe makes two pies. I swiped an industrial size pan from the church kitchen and multiplied the recipe by 8 to be sure I had enough for everybody, so I had 16 pies-worth of buttermilk pie filling in the pan. I baked it up into a custard, then put mashed pears with cinnamon on top and baked it a bit longer.

It was delicious, but the problem is I should probably have made only about 5 pies-worth. What do I do with all the leftovers? Even delicious custard can be too much of a good thing.

Maybe I should have made it chocolate...

Are there any police stations/fire stations/ambulance stations or hospitals nearby? I would be stopping by and dropping them off as a "thank you." If they don't want them, they can do away with them from there. Either that or donate them to friends/neighbors?

@Home. My allergies have come around to say hello and now my eyes are red and puffy. Eye meds going in tonight for suuuure.

Easter Sunday was a good one! First Sunday in three weeks that I haven't been sick and throwing up! YAY!! I even had a "new" outfit on! LOL.. I didn't go shopping, but it works out similarly when you bought things a few years ago and just never wore them. I'm glad I finally got to put to use a skirt and top I really liked. We of course took no pictures since we were in a hurry to get to dinner at his grandparents.

Cats are ready for bed. They know I put them in their room at about 10, and they start pestering me about 9-9:30. They probably aren't ready to be quiet or sleep but I know they want the treats I give them when they go into their room at night. I think the next time I go to the doctor I'm going to have to mention my allergies, because when the cats spend so much time near my face, I end up with more allergy issues than normal. Seems unfair that pet love could cause you discomfort, haha.

Trying to figure out when I can go see my parents. I've tried for a few weeks but I've been sick or things were busy at church. I'm wanting to go on Mothers Day because I know it means more to my mom. I find it hard to balance seeing my family three hours away with the responsibility I feel for being present at Sunday School. Unfortunately, my aging parents tend to bear the brunt of that, and I don't see them as much as I would like. I should just deal with it and go down for the Friday evening/Saturday afternoon trips I can get. I wish we all lived closer!

We looked at a house this week that we LOVE. It's one of the most beautiful homes I've ever seen - exterior-wise. It was built in 1973, and a few of the rooms directly reflect that, but the rooms are SO spacious and any changes that we would make could be made in time. It's unfortunate that we are just not ready to make that kind of financial step. I hope that we can find something just as amazing to us when we are ready. I cannot believe that house is even still on the market. Those are the days you wish you had endless money and endless home repair skills, haha.

Hi, ya'll.   Long busy day. Came home and finished my plumbing repair. Tomorrow is Lou's 36th birthday. She's still smokin' hot. Sadly, I have to go back to Camden, 3 hours away tomorrow, which means it'll be late before I get in. We'll have to wait until the weekend to go out to celebrate. After buying her car and paying all the assorted fees and taxes on that, plus vacation, we can't afford to do too much...

Got an offer this morning. But for a job I didn't initially want and at a rate I DEF didn't want.

Spent some time counseling with my peoples + prayer obvi.
And many tears. Cus I'm an emotional woman. And proud of it.

Then I got some lunch...cus I hadn't eaten. Oiled up with my big guns: frankincense, valor and into the future.

Sent a counteroffer just now. If they accept it, we'll go from there.
If they can't do it, I will politely decline altogether.

Anything within my degree inside of CVS puts me at having to move outside of Texas.
Which I'm not 100% opposed to, but I'm also not inclined to either.

So if I get a no, that means opportunities outside of CVS are the direction to take.

I would protest for her if they tried to move her to Little Rock.  As much as I like Arkansas, me no likey Little Rock.

Tulsa would be a good choice.  OKC isn't bad, but is...flat.  Fort Smith Arkanas area is great!  Conway is nice too!

Umm..   Arkansas is lovely. It's a beautiful mix of nature and population. Sure, it has some of its "bad areas" like every single state touching it as well.  :) I'll accept no other statements that dispute that, because I've been to these other states too, haha. :P

Eating lunch at work. I need a nap. It's rained for 40 days and nights it seems... actually only a couple of days that have been FULL of rain. Hope everyone down south is okay. Looks like some pretty scary storms went through.

It's also pretty in a modern way. I'd like to go see it someday soon! That and the Crystal Bridges or Gardens or whatever they're called.

Title: Re: We Won’t Talk About Elves in Sharing 512
Post by: Roscoe on April 25, 2019, 11:52:28 PM
Crystal Bridges is a place everyone should go to once. Too much culture for me though. I did enjoy seeing Gilbert Stuart's painting of George Washington, and some other more traditional art, but the modern art and abstract stuff was so much garbage to me.
They are supposed to have a Frank Lloyd Wright house on the grounds now, which would be cool to see- he was an amazing architect.
Never been in Clinton's trailer house. I should I guess, as he was the President and from my home state. And many of his positions resemble the Republicans of today more than today's left.
And the main reason I would not think Jenn would enjoy Little Rock- even though it has its charms, it is known to be one of the most dangerous cities in the south. Fort Smith or Conway would be a good place though...

Smiley was named by her granddaughter, and if the other is a boy, it'll probably be named Cat Boy (from PJ Mask - her granddaughter's favorite show). Jenn, have we heard anything about the job??

And Bro Wilson has cancelled church tonight, as according to weather maps, the brunt of today's bad weather should hit right about the time church starts. I don't know whether to be happy because I can go Beditate and lay before the Lord in a comfortable bed, or to be annoyed, as I had planned to teach the last lesson in the holiness series I've been working on. When I finish it, I get a few weeks off on Wednesday nights. I intend to egg Clayton (our other assistant minister) into teaching a series or two. He is the one who artfully recommended I teach this series again, since I had done so a few years ago and the whole church claimed to have enjoyed it and needed it. I think the lug wanted a long vacation from teaching himself...:pound:

Ah well. I got some biking to w*rk in before the rain started up again. Last Friday and Saturday, and this Tuesday.

Funny thing about that... Five months it has been either raining or freezing. I finally get to bike to w*rk and my legs aren't sore at all. My hands though, they are wore out from holding the handlebar. I'm gonna have to get my hands in shape for regular biking. Can't figure that one out.

I've been off singing TENOR for Ladies Conf. :hypocrite:
Sis Carla Burton from TN (i think) was our night speaker. SO GOOD OMW. SO SO GOOD.

Then we had a 4 hour practice Saturday. Then I had to praise sing/choir for church yesterday. I've not much of a voice at this point. It's pretty scraggly.

My hay bale garden is doing swell too! My corn, gladiolas, and sunflowers are about a foot tall.
My tomatoes and zucchini are doing ok also. I see one sprout for the onions, and like one sprout for the peppers. But nothing else for the other flowers I planted.

But my strawberry plant from last year has about TEN strawberries - well minus the ripe one I picked this morning - on it! SO EXCITED. I ignored that plant from about August on last year lol....Mom says they usually do better the second year.

So far, knock on wood, we haven't lost any trees, but as waterlogged as our yard is I wouldn't be surprised if we did. Today has been a hair puller already. And when you have as few hairs as I do, that's saying something. So far I've been coordinating with the jail on several offenders, two different Arkansas courts, and a Missouri court system. I'm totally over today, and over adulting. :pound:

Carla Burton... wonderful person. Sometimes at Tennessee church meeting of a lot of churches she will lead a kind of ad-hoc mass choir made up of anybody who wants to join. She's fun, intelligent and she doesn't hog all the lead parts.

You know how some things just wait and all break at the same time? Well- we were working on electrical to an out building- and found out that the previous owners of our house only buried the sewer field line 4 inches deep... and then this morning in the process of trying to fix that- we found the water line that was buried (on top) of the sewer line! And then on top of that our washer is messsd up- something about the water valve... and the dryer isn't drying- but it's not the element. Ugh.

Wow. I had that happen with a minivan once. I found out the driver's side door latch broke, and it turned out it had broken with the previous owner and he had done a quick patch job instead of really fixing the problem. In the meantime five other things broke, including another door handle.

The power train is bullet-proof though, it seems. Mazda runs like a champ, but the accoutrements tend to be made of cheap plastic.

Ouch, Chel. I totally understand- we are trying to get it to dry out enough to get a dump truck back in the back yard to fill in the low spots over our field line, which will fix the issue with our septic.  Meanwhile, my much babied BadBoy mower is smoking like Willie Nelson on a weekend in Jamaica, the drain on the A/C  was stopped up, and work stinks. Especially today since they fired our  drug court counselor, and I had to escort him out. Difficult as he had started coming in to my office and seemed to feel I was his closer friend at work.. :sadbounce:

We went to a neighboring town to get a couple things. While we were there the storm hit. We were sitting at a red light and the wind started shaking the truck. We just got through the light and we heard a big boom. Either lightning struck right by us or a transformer blew right there. We went a few more yards and trees & electrical lines were down everywhere. Red lights are out in most of the town. We had to reroute a couple times to get back home. Thankfully, when we got home  the only issues seem to be a couple of HUGE tree limbs down. Thankful for mercy & grace from God.

I think I have mentioned before that I use the world's smallest android phone, the Unihertz Jelly. (Why "Jelly" for a hard plastic phone smaller than an altoids tin? Dunno.) It is a real smartphone though, runs Android 8.1, does all the standard smartphone tricks like wifi hotspot, etc.

Recently I found a "rugged" version, the Unihertz Atom. Looks like the Jelly in a really small otterbox, basically. Waterproof, dustproof, gorilla glass, all that. I found one used on ebay... Wait, what? They just came out with this and there's already one on ebay used?

I placed a bid on it but I also sent a question to the seller. Is there something wrong with it? The seller said no, there's nothing wrong with the phone itself. Her husband got this phone as his first smartphone, but he really didn't like it so he went back to his flip-phone.

*facepalm squared, maybe cubed*

If you had never used a smartphone before, can you imagine using THIS as your first one ever?

I said yeah, I can imagine he hated it. That probably put him off using smartphones for the rest of his life.

Sleepy at work.

Going to eat dinner tonight with an old friend from Arkansas. He lives in that horrid city you guys talked about (Little Rock).. LOL. He's up here for work and we haven't seen each other in a couple of years. Hopefully Jeremy will get to come since this is also one of our favorite restaurants. I cannot WAIT to eat some sushi! Yummm..

Made a breakfast casserole last night so we could have breakfast foods ready to eat quick in the morning (with a little help from a microwave of course). Deliciouuuuus. :) I wanted to eat more, but I figured I'd better save some for breakfast tomorrow and Thursday haha. Next one I try will be the sausage balls. They were yummy too. I probably need to bake some blueberry scones for Jeremy, but I'll wait until the muffins are all gone first. (That's one perk to having those Muffins for Moms events! LOL)

Ready for lunch. I made tuna broccoli bake last night for supper while I was preparing that breakfast casserole. I LOVE tuna broccoli bake and tuna patties, but Jeremy would love to live without them. This means more for me. :)

You been in the Nawth too long girl. We don't eat bait here in Arkansas! Fish is supposed to be fried and served in unhealthy doses with hushpuppies, sliced onion, and green tomato pickles, along with French fries. :pound:

In sharing, Got home last night and just felt a bit down. Fired up Rusty and went on a nice drive. Felt the need to go see my friend Brent, so I did. Turned out he needed to talk too. We hopped in Rusty and meandered around a while, and both of us felt better for it when we pulled back in. Thankful for God's little whispers and a friend to talk to.

When I get home tonight, I'm pulling the doors and windows off the Jeep. It's Jeep weather! I love this- it could remain in this weather pattern from now on and I'd not complain.

LOL I haven't even regular fried fish (other than tuna/salmon) in years. It's always grossed me out. I loved it when I was little and especially with tartar sauce. I have had mahi mahi and swai fish tacos, and I really like those. :)

The sushi I eat usually involves crab or tuna. Our favorite where we are going tonight, they also just barely deep fry the outsides of the roll. It's so good.

I'm a little chilled here in the office. The a/c keeps turning on. I'm going to have to turn my heater on soon if my hands don't thaw.

Congrats!

Also, I'm shocked that you've never tried sushi! Of course - I shock people that I DO like sushi, LOL. I'm apparently perceived as the ultimate picky eater for some reason. I find it hilarious and irritating, because I eat lots of foods the ones who tease me won't even eat. Like.. sushi.. hummus.. lima beans.. black eyed peas... gumbo... etc. Ohhhh well. :) Granted - I can't bring myself to try chowder. Jeremy LOVES corn chowder I think.. but just the word 'chowder' makes me think of powdery white textured of sawdust soup, and I for some reason can't get past that. Maybe one day I'll grow up. ;)

I would assume if you like seafood, you'd like sushi. I don't eat much seafood (crab considered that probably?) with the exception of crab and if you consider tuna a seafood, haha. I think it's all about picking the right place to try it tho. I won't just eat it anywhere, haha. I trust a couple of restaurants and that's about it. I do crave it a lot now tho.. all it takes is mentioning the name of the restaurant we are going to tonight, and I crave it. Maybe they put something in their food.. LOL.

The teardrop has moved westward. I replaced it with the Scotty, which is larger and more comfortable. However, it is still a camper- and that means 3 people ride in Rusty's cab, which is less than spacious. A motorhome would mean that the women can move around, sleep, even use the restroom while I gear jam down the interstate. But that's in the future..

It is appearing to be beautiful yet again today. Mark my words, when I'm off on the weekend and can get stuff done, it will rain. :pound:

Sashimi is raw fish. There is a lot of sushi that has sashimi, but not all sushi is raw fish.

Some of the best sushi you ever put in your mouth is the smoked salmon sushi (say that five times fast) at Hibachi Grill.

There is also vegetarian sushi, sushi with octopus, sushi with squid and sushi with bacon. And lots of other kinds of sushi.

From wikipedia:
"Sushi is a Japanese dish of prepared vinegared rice, usually with some sugar and salt, accompanying a variety of ingredients, such as seafood, vegetables, and occasionally tropical fruits."

The mandatory class was one of our every six month classes we are required to take. It's just that this time, instead of my agency's mostly incompetent instructors, the owner of a local ju jitsu business whose brother is a cop in a neighboring county, and who has two brother in laws in law enforcement offered to teach for free. Amazing the difference in a class when it is someone who can actually show you how to perform a maneuver and knows how to do it vs those who THINK they can.

Eating breakfast at work. Finally a Friday morning early start that wasn't completely painful! LOL.

:hi: Yeah, I'd like Chey to go to it, just don't know if I have the budget for it. Her shooting hobby is expensive enough.

Morning all. Well, actually afternoon. This morning I started my day with a call from Sirius satellite radio. Lou's Lincoln had a free 3 month trial and they want me to subscribe. Nearly lost every trace of God when they called. I explained kinda loudly that calling me at 8 am on my day off was a very good way to never get my business and hung up before I said worse. They email me every day with contact information- if I want their product I will call. I'm at the point that if you call me to sell a product you have just guaranteed I WON'T be a customer.
Of course, I AM a grump, and calling me while I'm snoozing amplifies that, so maybe I'm the only one that feels like that.

After that I went and picked up Lou some laundry soap and fabric softener- we buy it by the 5 gallon bucket, much cheaper than at a store, and the lady only comes through once a month or so. I then went to Russellville and bought two of the 5 privacy fence panels I need for my current project. I'm building a privacy fence between my shop and RV port. It'll conceal some of the stuff I'm working on and improve the looks of the place. It also lets me start on my patio/outside kitchen that will be behind the privacy fence. Now if I could find someone with about 600 sq foot of patio stone that they wanted to give away, I'd be set...

Now I am washing a load of clothes and cooking a pot of pinto beans and ham hocks. I'm such a good hubby.  *pats himself on the back.

The tornado watches have started for the day. So far the main storm is north & west of us but we're already under a watch. Thankful that God has it all under control.

Lawd, whatta storm.

We had to run to town yesterday.  My neighbor called and said some bad weather was headed our way.  We rushed home, gathered a few items, got the cellar ready, and I said get in NOW.  It went crazy.

We had tree limbs down, neighbor lost a pine, lost a willow tree at church and the steeple that was donated but not up went rolling away.

Town where we were earlier got nailed pretty good too.  40+ homes damaged.

It was quick here. Apparently we just got the edge of the storm. Lou came in , demanding to go to town to get something to eat and would not listen to anything I said to dissuade her...so we took the Jeep, because I didn't want the Lincoln to get nailed by hail. The wind gusted a couple times making the Jeep feel light, but that was about it. However, apparently while we were getting dinner, the storm came through between the house and town. Several trees blown down in a matter of about 20 minutes tops. All we lost was a small, maybe 2 inch in diameter limb off a tree in the front of the house.

I was so sick yesterday. I even missed church. Everything I tried to eat came back up. I took a narcotic Saturday night for a tooth that was hurting so bad and only got worse by time Saturday went on. That narcotic is probably what messed me up for the rest of the weekend. No toothache since then though?

I've had 2 pieces of toast and some crackers today and so far so good. Just feeling super weak today. Not doing much.

Thankfully Pamela is in Mexico this week and Altaf will leave me alone when he knows I don't feel good.

All these storms y'all are talking about, and the forecast here is sunny for the whole week.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you... I usually like rainy days, but the last four months have had more rain than we usually get. I'll take some sunshine for a while.

I just think it's odd because we in TN usually inherit the weather y'all had yesterday. But y'all had storms and we got nothing. So now I'm wondering where all the storm systems went if they didn't cross here.

Sweet baby Jesus. Today has been fun. Not.
I'm working the early shift today. That usually means no issues, and just a few people to see. But our admin and every other officer went to mandatory training. Our Drug Court Officer is working the late shift. So from 7 this morning until a few ago, I was receptionist, drug court officer, drug tester, parole officer and everything in between. Crazy.

Hmm let's see what have I done today so far.....

- eaten breakfast
- checked the mail
- played a game on my phone
- sent weekly report email

hmm. what else....  :twocents:

For real though - most days I'm SUPER bored.
And a neighboring district who is getting a new admin/scheduler (which is what I am) wants that new admin to shadow me for FOUR days next week the entire day. I said um no. I'm not getting dressed and spending 24 hours outside my home when we are just gonna sit and talk the ENTIRE 8 hours each day cus I don't do enough work for that.

I know, I know - every has their own problems. Some do too much....Some don't do enough.

LOL. I know it seems like it's boring and slow now, but you do have those very stressful days where you're trying to find replacements to cover people's shifts.. that's chaos! haha.. It ebbs and flows for every workplace!

For instance, I may or may not have checked up on a game on my phone a little more today than I would on a Mon-Wed-Fri.. because our Tues-Thurs are just quieter.. and I have a little breathing room! I will dispute this if brought up to my workplace tho.. HAHAHAHA. I've been pretty productive tho.. esp considering it's not been all that pretty outside.

I spilled bbq/mayo combo on my shirt during lunch. My husband said it's "man cologne" but I can't handle food smells when I'm no longer eating. I think I'm going to start carrying a change of clothing in my vehicle for moments like these. Thankfully I was able to get most of the smell-inducing parts off so that it's not SO loud of a scent.

I have a cough here the past few days accompanied by a scratchy throat. So when I go pick up this darling birthday girl's bike from Walmart, I'm going to pick up some OJ as well. I would honestly rather have a bathroom issue than have a sore throat. Something about not realizing how much I actually swallow and use my throat. Also chugging water still. I'm determined to get better ASAP!

We aren't going to my family's house for Memorial Weekend now, but I do get to go to a birthday party that I usually miss due to it being on the holiday weekend, and hopefully I can get some of the housework done that gets shoved to the side during the week with that extra day on Monday.

and those stressful shift coverage happenings are few and far between these days. lol

I also made a dentist appointment for next week. Begrudgingly. Very begrudgingly.  :noo:
Now I have to go puke again for making that appointment. Cue my anxiety for the next 7 days.

Aww! I had a really horrible dentist when I was in high school. They always had this way of making me and my mother feel awful for not being able to afford all of the work that needed to be done as soon as they mentioned it. I would cry every single time on the way to and from those appointments. I know it made mom feel awful as well. That dentist died in a small plane accident, and while I was very sad for his family, I was thankful to get to choose a new dentist. My momma didn't want to rock the boat by switching until then. I still to this day only have anxiety about paying for the procedures/work, and NOT the actual pain/work itself. I had a wonderful pediatric dentist whom our whole family LOVED and went to until he retired, and I have had great dentists since the bad one thankfully. I even had a better experience with getting braces than I ever had at the 'bad dentist.'

I'm on my 3rd bottle of water. If I could get like one of those hats with hoses connected to a water source where I could just sip when I needed instead of taking time to drink out of a cup or bottle, I think my throat would feel better.. LOL.

Ready for a nap!

I survived the day. Counting down to this weekend. Thank the Lord for a State Job that believes in holidays, cause I sure need this Memorial Day three day weekend. And it is supposed to be pretty too.
I might get my fence done after all. And as far as food smells- I enjoy them too much. If I didn't enjoy the smell, I wouldn't eat the food which is making me fat(ter).

I have come to the conclusion that I have too many home improvement projects/wants ; too many hobbies/hobby projects; too many duties and chores; not enough money; not enough time; and wonder if I'll ever get it all done.

My home improvement list-

1) finish the tile laying on the kitchen dining room floor

2) paint the cabinets

3) install new counter tops

4) remodel the bathroom

5) put a rollup door on the shop

6) finish the privacy fence

7) build a patio behind it with an outdoor kitchen and firepit

8) Build the shop of my dreams.

Hobby list-
1) restore Sam, complete with paint

2) get my first truck, a '63 Dodge, on the road

3) get the Stude running and driving, and in primer at least

4) Install two more towers for antennas

5) Buy an RV, or even better a 1950's school bus and renovate it into a motorhome for vacations.

Basically, I need to win the lottery and live to be around 120. :laughhard:

Well at least Bobby can be fairly certain of having ONE vehicle operational at any given time.

Plus he has to build up a reserve. As energetic and enthusiastic as his daughter is, teaching her to drive might cost a couple vehicles. :p

If they were regular vehicles, I'd agree. I just have a passion for antique vehicles. The Stude is a '56...The Dodge is sentimental...Sam, well, I just enjoy the old guy. And the nice thing about antique vehicles, no matter what condition they are in, SOMEONE will want them.
For instance, although I will likely never part with Sam, he is one of the most popular body styles of antique trucks in existence and would be sold within a day of putting him up for sale. So in a way, they are kinda a bank account. Over the years, I've bought and sold antique cars, trucks, and corvettes and always made money on them eventually. Unless you count the last Corvette, that I traded for the Jeep. I probably undersold it, but it wasn't a hobby car, it was pretty much a daily driver, so I don't think I got hurt on it.

Cheyenne and her mama can dispose of these old rides when something happens to me. For now though, they are stress relief. And the parts to keep them running are actually cheap, so I don't spend much money on them until I get ready to refinish them, which I can do on my time and budget. For instance, if I take three years to get two fenders painted for Sam, I'm the only one annoyed by the wait time. LOL

Songs don't take up much space and aren't that expensive. Cars on the other hand... Gas, registration, inspections, parts, insurance, somewhere to put them... Sounds like an expensive and bulky hobby.

But if you got the money & space and enjoy it, go for it. ;)

LOL. Registration in Arkansas for antiques is a one time thing, about $50.Permanent tags, never need to renew. No inspections, and insurance is around 15/month a piece for liability. When they get closer to being refinished, I can step them into a collector car policy for around $250 a year total, up to at least 4 vehicles. Most folks that collect cars don't put a ton of miles on them, so there are insurance products out there specifically for us. I DO have full coverage on Rusty the 46, but that's because he is my daily driver, and even so it isn't bad on him, compared to Lou's Lincoln. The Stude and Dodge aren't roadworthy so they are not insured currently. Parts aren't too bad- these are very simple vehicles. For instance, the Dodge needs a motor and transmission. I've located both for $200 total, that run fine.
Somewhere to put them- well, that's an issue I haven't resolved to my satisfaction yet. LOL

There are some states that if I lived in I couldn't afford one antique much less my fleet. Fortunately, Arkansas has not thought of us small time car hobbyist as revenue yet.
I will admit that Isaac's songs, Jenn's plants, and Chel's chickens are less bulky and probably cheaper. One day when I'm old, I'll slow down and try them.

Well.. I kinda do the whole plant thing already, in the yard. Speaking of which- my roses are beautiful this year from a distance but I'm still thinking a couple of the plants are diseased. LOADED with roses, but some of them are not the multi layered blossoms they should be, they are basically single petalled flowers. I'm no real happy about that, and can't get a straight answer on how to correct them. If it is a terminal disease, I'll dig em up and replace them...

Weather....

Oklahoma is getting nailed.  Yesterday evening a tornado went right by my parents house.  We were watching a live feed on Facebook and the storm chaser went down the road west of their house chasing the tornado.

We have surpassed the historic floods of 1986.  We are on track to surpass the biggest flood in state history.  And to make matters worse, two fully loaded barges broke loose in Muskogee, and are headed towards a lock and dam and the I40 bridge.  They are evacuating entire towns along the river.  In Tulsa and Muskogee they are evacuating entire neighborhoods.

I'm pretty sure we are OK, but we are only a few miles from the river.

Oklahoma looks scary these days. :( I have family in the Okemah area. Glad you are okay and I pray the flooding stays away!

I've had a sore throat for 3-4 days now. Went to the doctor yesterday and she agreed that it's most likely allergies. I have to go for an xray today though to make sure there's nothing else going on in my lungs since I have a questionable cough. Freaks me out, but hopefully that'll be nothing as well. Ready to feel 100%! I've been some form of sick (not mental :P) or extremely tired for most of the time since March.

I'm alive though with a home, a car, a job, a spouse, two cats, and bills.. so I'm blessed.

A quick rundown for all of my non-okie friends; currently:

There have been 183748+- tornadoes since Sat.
It's rained and drained like Pi R squared into Lake Keystone
The Arkansas River is projected to hit the fan.
Saint Meteorologist Travis Meyer is working like 96hrs straight fueled on super cells, red bull and spicy dorito crumbs in his mustache
OH, and there's 2 runaway barges that can't be stopped headed right to a dam which is being described at catastrophic.

Oklahoma... OK!

Y'all done got quiet. I'm fixing to go out and grab a few home visits. Wish I had taken today off. I went last night and bought the remaining panels and posts I needed for the fence, and haggled the price down to half price on one of the panels because it had a warped board. All I need now is to get some QuickCrete and angle brackets and I should have the fence up by the end of the week end... which is supposed to be beautiful and hot.
I can see smokers and grills in my future. Had intentions of possibly camping, but the two campgrounds we like the most are out of commission. One got trees slammed all over it last week with the straightline winds/tornado came through (the campground Mini and Chellbelle and my family go to when they come down to ) and the other is on the banks of the Arkansas River. Since I don't want to wake up floating in a houseboat down the river, we will decline that one too. I really don't think the Scotty is waterproof to THAT level despite my best efforts.

Wowser. Indoor plants I can't do. But I have window boxes full of annuals on all of our front windows, Roses all along in front of the house....jonquils lining the driveway. I have an OLD teacup rose like what you describe climbing a trellis that I need to replace on the west end of the house ( I dug the rose up at an old homestead where the main trunk of it was reaching about 30 feet high in a tree, it looked like a pink rose waterfall when it was bloomed out, but it was on the edge of the roadway and they were widening the road. I couldn't let it be murdered); and numerous lilacs, forsythia, blooming Japanese cherry trees and a very hardy and slightly annoying wisteria vine. The wisteria is beautiful and smells awesome when it blooms, but it sends out tentacles ALL OVER.
And I have several other things I want to plant...

My prides outside right now are that rose bush (which is in a POT by the way, not in the ground) and my hibiscus. LOVE love hibiscus. Oh and the hay bale garden obviously.

My squash plants are HUGE and have tonnns of flowers. Praying they produce before the stinking squash bugs get em.
My corn, sunflowers and gladiolas are all about a foot tall. Can't wait. EEK.

I think the other flowers I planted and the onions all gave up the ghost. I have one pepper plant that's about 4" and several good sized tomato plants. Those should produce eventually. They need the heat first.

LOVE IT.

I am currently severely ticked off.

Last night I tried to use my debit card to make a car rental reservation. This caused my card to be shut down because... well, near as I can figure because the card issuer is paranoid. This is the second time in two weeks my card has been shut down. Two weeks ago it was held up because I tried to make an ebay purchase from a seller in California.

I called today and was told the bank people could not unblock my card on a Saturday. They recommended I call the 800 number on the back of the card. Sure, that helped a lot - the automated system I got on the phone said to talk to my bank. Really, that's ALL I got out of it.

Oh yeah, and the bank is closed Monday of course.

So my direct-deposit paycheck is sitting in the bank, out of my reach, because of a paranoid card issuer. For FIVE DAYS!

Oh yeah and I can't get that car rental, and all my pending amazon purchases just failed..

That is one reason I have an extra debit card that has been activated and stashed in a safe. Had my shut down a few years back due to a fraud.... my local bank takes around 2 weeks to issue a new one. After that, I decided I would never again be in that position...

Beautiful here too. However, we are steadily watching the flooding start. ALL the water from Oklahoma, ect is passing through here, and it looks like it is gonna take a lot of property with it. They are saying that this flood will be worse around here than any in recorded history, including the great flood of 1927. If it does what they expect, we may be stuck out here at our house for a few days, unable to get to town...

Yeah that's like what the Tennessee River did earlier this year. We have seen a LOT of other people's rain go by. And in. And through. And over.

Some farmers had a crop of catfish instead of corn.

Well, due to flooding, we cancelled church tonight. In the words of Mini-"thank God it is raining. My water was getting dry."
It's storming. I'm totally not a fan.
It's been a long day today. I'm actually becoming concerned that this infernal flooding is going to impact my car show...my one vacation a year I look forward to.

Down here in TN it is dry. I mowed the yard yesterday and I'm really, really, really hoping it stays dry around here so I won't have to mow again for a good long time.

We never have a water shortage though. All the creeks and streams and rivers seem to always find water from somewhere.

In local news, I went by the salvage grocery store yesterday to see what I could see. I saw half-gallon bottles of hollandaise sauce. I figured it would be just more flavored soybean oil - that's what all the sauces are these days - but I checked the ingredients anyway and it started "water, cream, butter, egg, vinegar..."   :great:

It's about as thick as mayo, but it doesn't jiggle like a jar of mayo. It has the texture of half-melted butter and the flavor of butter and cream and just a touch of lemon.

I got three jars and I think this morning before w*rk I'll go back and get the remaining jugs. You don't find this every day for $3 a jug. Shoot, you don't find this every day at any price, real hollandaise sauce that is not just soybean oil.

Really hoping I can get over whatever this 'sickness' is asap. Been on allergy meds for a long time now, and if these are allergy issues causing this.. I'm not sure my meds are working. I'd like to have my voice back and the cough to go away. Been adding new issues this week. I'm just not really wanting to be at the doctor's office every single week. I guess I did go to the doc too early in the sickness because I feel like I'm fighting an uphill battle to get better. I am very thankful that I don't have a sore throat now. I'm going to try to wait until Monday to see if I get any better or not. I'm just done. I want to be my normal again.

Shew. Long story but I need to vent.... Today- was a nightmare. One of my parolees, on parole for taking money for construction jobs and not doing them, is up to his old tricks. Only he's smarter this time. He does just enough work to make it a breach of a civil contract, not a felony. This means I can't arrest him.
I got notified by the State Board of Contractors that they were investigating him. Being smart, I notified my supervisors, in case something bad happened. It did- the local TV station aired an expose on him statewide. Of course, my report went all the way to the department head, who basically told me to find a legal way to arrest him. And do it now. Problem- he lives on the OTHER side of the flood waters.
S0- myself and another officer drove 2 hours around the flood to discover that he wasn't home. Managed to make contact by phone, told him to report in and he told me he was on the other side of the state- where he was not supposed to be.
So we start for the office. Take a little known back road to skirt around the flooding, as directed by a deputy friend. 20 miles of bad dirt logging road later, I have found civilization. But before I got off of the dirt road, a deer ran out, honest to God tripped, and went UNDER my driver's front wheel. I ran over the poor thing's head before I could stop and I was only going 20 mph!
I go back, it's laying there not moving. Has obvious broken neck and legs, and is still breathing. I can't let it suffer so I shot it in the head.
I then called my boss and told him, as well as called Dispatch and told them.
Using my gun is considered an act of force. I had to  fill out three different forms, take a drug test, fill out a critical incident report- basically two hours of work. If I had not been in shock over the deer's suicide by cop, I'd have shot it with my OWN 9mm I had on my ankle. I would not have had to do ANY of that if I had...
I told my main boss to put away the voodoo doll of me that she was poking pins into, I'd had enough...
So I was pretty much on the go and doing paperwork all day today. Bah. This was Friday. Supposed to be an easy day.

I passed with no issues. I's so smart I didn't even have to study none fer it. :ugly:

Today continued my less than great days, to an extent. Got scared to death and had my own revival while weedeating the church property. Some kid had tossed out a 2 foot long rubber snake in the grass. When those things are hit with a weedeater, they look remarkably real.
And on the way to church with the lawnmower, fat happy me is tooling along in a 73 year old pickup pulling a trailer, water on both sides of the road- and a stinkin' BEE flew down my shirt collar and nailed me in the back with what felt like a five foot long stinger. All I could do was beller. No place to pull over or anything..LOL

There has been so much death lately. It's been so heavy and sad.

We've probably all heard about Bro. Albritton's wife, and that has been so eye-opening for the UPCI, I hope. I can't pretend to know anything about her situation, but I pray that we can be reaching out and helping others in the wake of this life.

Even here locally (and some friends in Texas), it just keeps coming in waves. A young couple close to my friends were expecting their daughter to be born Thursday. Sunday morning, they rushed the mom to the hospital with contractions. Ultrasound confirmed that the baby had died in the womb. She has been in anguish, along with her family, not wanting to leave the baby's side. This was their first child, and the doctors don't know what has caused this. I've been praying and would appreciate any help in that matter, praying for the Shadowens family for peace and comfort in this time of grief. They are planning the family funeral tomorrow.

Over the weekend as well, a young man I knew when I was younger through mutual friends and the child's mother I went to high school with.. their 16 year old daughter is on the edge of this life. I have no idea what has been going on, and I'm not about to ask, but I've seen all of our friends grieving her as well. Please pray for her parents, Tristan (dad), Catrina (mom), and their families. Tristah is the daughter's name. I have not seen officially that she has passed, but they are apparently expecting this at any time.

On the flooding - It's getting kinda scary here. They've closed Chester bridge (crosses the Mississippi). Now the only ways west "close" are St. Louis, Cape Girardeau, and Cairo. Unfortunately, Cape's road from IL is almost flooded over, and Cairo is closing in as well. I'm praying that the floodwaters aren't greatly increased by the rain we are expecting the next several days. Homes have already been lost in 4+ states from these floods.

I selfishly also hope that the floodwaters recede before Fathers Day weekend so that I can go see my dad. At their current stage, I am still okay to go, but much more and the roads will be covered. I can't remember if I have posted about this recently or not. My dad had prostate cancer in 2008 and had surgery to remove the prostate. He has had routine checks since. His numbers in the past few years have steadily increased. They recently went from 15 to 23. He had a bone scan on Friday and will have a chemical test on the 17th. For once, Dad is taking this news better than the rest of us. I cried all weekend when we found out. I'm a bit of a dependent person when it comes to my parents. They're still my very trusty guides in decision making for myself and my husband. We trust their counsel. It's very hard to be reminded again that your parent is not immortal, haha. It's not a welcome thought, especially when it's possible that he could have something else that would shorten your time. I'm obviously praying that these tests will either show something treatable, or there will be a miraculous event - and no cancer is there anymore anywhere! I dislike asking God to do something not in His plan, so I have been praying for peace for my dad (and all of us cry babies). I'm thankful that God has apparently given my dad that peace. He's normally extremely cranky and hard to deal with (love you dad LOL) when he has unsettling news from the doctors, but Mom said he has been handling it all like it's a normal day every single day. So I'm very thankful for God even listening to the "little" things we ask.

On a more positive note - My voice is like at 97% health. I have a little cough and some slight raspy voice issues, but from two weeks ago - it's SOOO much better!! It's also VERY close to our vacation! We leave in 25ish days.

I was out of town for a wedding Friday to Sunday. Graduation Sunday at church which I flew in by the hairs on my chin from the wedding which was in Amarillo. Participated  in graduation Sunday. Made a nice amount of money/gift cards. Went home and crashed by 10pm. (which if you know me is WAY early. I'm a 1a-2a sleeper). Then I took yesterday off to recoup.

Spent the morning at IHOP training a new admin/scheduler.
And now here I sit back at my home. Stomachs been kinda weird since IHOP and so I'm just sitting here zoning.

Nelle- sorry to hear and praying. I saw where Bro Albritton's wife had passed, but haven't heard why or from what.
And the hardest thing I've ever dealt with was losing my parents....Parents should be immortal, I think.

Flooding- it's supposedly on the drop here- the river appears to have crested. They down side is, most of our local issues are not only the river, but all the little tributary streams that feed from it. They lag a bit, so we may have a few more days of inconvenience in store.

Tomorrow- is gonna be court. A looooong court day- the docket is like 57 pages. I might not make church tomorrow night, because I may be stuck in court.

We get our yearly review this week. There are 4 levels possible, and depending on how high you are ranked , you get more of a raise/bonus. My boss all but told me my review, even though he can't officially give it until Thursday. He told me up front that he had tried to get me the top tier, but the idiots at headquarters cut everyone down. I know he tried, and it's not his fault. And I'm thankful for what I WILL get. But it is very unmotivating to stay on top of your game and do the best job possible and get the same reward as the slug that watches Netflix all day and does the bare minimum.
Then I remind myself that how I act shouldn't be based on anyone else. I'll do the best job I can and go to sleep at night without any guilt or regrets. At least I know MY bosses appreciate it, even if the faceless idiots in Little Rock do not.

Thought for the day: Money is like water. You need it to survive, but having more than you need doesn't necessarily make your life better, and having too much can actually destroy things. And the more you try to pile up, the faster it flows away.

Well, I called it. It was after 7 o'clock when I got out of court. Several of my  problem children went away. One I kinda hated- I liked the kid and tried to help him in every way possible. Unfortunately he chose to follow his own path. He didn't have any grudge though- he told me he knew he'd messed up. He's going to be locked up for around a year. The sad part is, his first child was born the day before he was arrested. He got to hold her once at the hospital. Now, she's be toddling before he is free. He did it to himself, but still sad to me.

And I'm gonna be praying about something. My friend that owns Stick's Deli and Dinner told me today he plans to sell in a couple of years, and retire. I'm tempted to see if I can get a loan with the bank and buy it, if we can strike a deal. It would get Lou out of Walmart and would make us small business owners, which we've always wanted to be..

ROFLOL. I'm not THAT bad. But I COULD see some smoked meatloaf, and the occasional smoked pork loin being added to the menu.
Morning all. I'm feeling a bit defeated today. Worked my tail off yesterday morning to get everything done so my coworkers don't have to deal with anything while I'm on vacation. Went to court, came in this morning and I'm right back where I started.

But. After tomorrow- which I plan to cut short if possible- I have a week off. And I ain't gonna think about this place. And, I ordered a case of my glass bottled Dr Pepper, and have the camper nearly ready to go.

Smooth brought to tears this morning.

Remember my mini-rant about Little Rock and our performance evals? I got mine today.
My boss gave me the highest rating in the agency. The one that the running joke in the Agency is that you would have to save the director to get.
And Little Rock LET. IT.GO. THROUGH. I got the brass ring of the agency, the eval everyone wants and historically cannot be gotten.
I literally cried. My boss told me that I deserved every bit of it and every penny. This, from a man that I technically make more financially than he does.
This means my yearly bonus, usually around $900 after taxes and something I am thankful for, will be about a grand higher....
Speechless at God's Blessings

:hi:

Well, my favorite time of year is over, and the car show is behind us. The sad part is, I have to go back to work Monday. Bah.
The good part is, we were able to enjoy Chellebelle and Mini's company today. (oh, and my future son in law's company too).
As usual I spent way too much. But I really enjoyed the week off and the mental reset.
Saw several cars that Taco would love, too...

I'd love to have one! This Buick like most cars since 2000 sits almost on the ground. I think they should be called Roscoe height cars. I need an older car, van, or truck desperately! Pain management even thinks it's an issue, to bad insurance won't see a car as a medical necessity.

Too bad you're so far away. Chel has an older mini van for sale.

I thought of you a couple times specifically this weekend. I'd have sent pictures, but the service on Petit Jean during the car show is very limited. Apparently, all the gearheads overload the system there and stuff doesn't send until after you come off the mountain. There were several '80s squarebody Chevy trucks for sale and a beautiful forest green and mint green two tone '57 Chevy four door for $12,500 or best offer.

If I had the money I'd come get it. I think I cracked my ribs getting in the car to come home yesterday. A deep breath has me in tears.

:hi: Morning all. My vacation went by way too fast. If I were a betting man, I'd bet that won't be the case THIS week. LOL
Back at the grind. Praying that life goes well this week, and that we don't get all the rain they are forecasting. I am sick of rain...

We got rain yesterday and actually needed it. I think it's the first rain we've had in June.
