We used to sing the chorus all the time, I just don't think I even knew there were verses.

Babs

i only to because i had to sing it at a funeral one time, was an elderly black lady that was homebound and we had given her bible studies in her home and ended up we took a horse trough to her house in the middle of her living room and she was baptized and got the Holy Ghost as she went down lol

she asked me if i would sing that song when she died. she passed about a week later.

cool thing with her was, she had NEVER stepped foot in a church, but told us right after she got baptized, "you know, i am coming to your church soon and when i do, i am going to bring more visitors with me than anyone else ever has at one time." she died the next week, and just the people that came for her alone were almost 200! was the wildest funeral i had ever been to. 18 got the Holy Ghost and i think they baptized almost 50. was crazy good!

The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

When President Reagan died a guy from New York who was a former NYPD officer sang Amazing Grace and he actually sang the first of those verses. It was the first time I heard anyone sing it. You might could find the video on YouTube.

Alabaster Box

The room grew still
As she made her way to Jesus
She stumbles through the tears that made her blind
She felt such pain
Some spoke in anger
Heard folks whisper
There's no place here for her kind
Still on she came
Through the shame that flushed her face
Until at last, she knelt before his feet
And though she spoke no words
Everything she said was heard
As she poured her love for the Master
From her box of alabaster

Refrain

And I've come to pour
My praise on Him
Like oil from Mary's alabaster box
Don't be angry if I wash his feet with my tears
And I dry them with my hair
You weren't there the night He found me
You did not feel what I felt
When he wrapped his love all around me and
You don't know the cost of the oil
In my alabaster box

I can't forget the way life used to be
I was a prisoner to the sin that had me bound
And I spent my days
Poured my life without measure
Into a little treasure box
I'd thought I'd found
Until the day when Jesus came to me
And healed my soul
With the wonder of His touch
So now I'm giving back to Him
All the praise He's worthy of
I've been forgiven
And that's why
I love Him so much

Refrain

And I've come to pour
My praise on Him
Like oil from Mary's alabaster box
Don't be angry if I wash his feet with my tears
And dry them with my hair (my hair)
You weren't there the night Jesus found me
You did not feel what I felt
When He wrapped his loving arms around me and
You don't know the cost of the oil
Oh, you don't know the cost of my praise
You don't know the cost of the oil
In my alabaster box

Woke up with this one running through my head.

The wind of the Spirit has filled your sails
Made to you the promise that He will never fail
He steered you straight and steady and the sky was clear
But now the storm is rising and your belief has turned to fear

And you say sometimes it seems that He's nowhere to be found
But just when you're about to sink He commands the sea to lay down

He's just asleep in the boat
Don't you worry, just keep rowing
He's just asleep in the boat yeah
But He knows where you're going
Where is your faith?
Is it broken in the waves?
"Do you sing at church?"
"Yes I sing at church, I sing at home, at work, in the car, at the supermarket, at Wal-Mart..."

Been stuck in my head all stinking day...

There are faraway places
That I would like to think
Keep all the world's suffering
At a safe arm's length
But I can't keep pretending
When I only have to look as faaaaaaaaaar
As my own backyard
"Do you sing at church?"
"Yes I sing at church, I sing at home, at work, in the car, at the supermarket, at Wal-Mart..."
:sing: :sing: :sing: :sing: :sing: :sing:

I wish I could find a YouTube or even the lyrics online But the song thats been on my mind/heart last 2 days is by Nancy Grandquist " Altar of God "
The chorus that keeps ringing over and over is   "I'm going back to the altar Where I started out. Seems Ive forsaken consecrations.  I've broken holy vows. Send down your fire Lord, cleanse me within without. Its your blood and your power that gives me hope for every hour. At the altar of God"

Thank God we have that altar we can go to

Hebrews 12:12-16 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you

I'm learning to lean, learning to lean,
Learning to lean on Jesus.
Finding more power than I'd ever dreamed,
I'm learning to lean on Jesus.
Isaiah 43:2
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee: and through the rivers, when thou walkest through the shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shall not be burned: neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Selah - I bless your name

In prisoners' chains
With bleeding stripes
Paul and Silas prayed that night
And in their pain began to sing
Their chains were loosed
And they were free

I bless Your Name
I bless Your Name
I give You honor, give You praise
You are the Life, the Truth, the Way
I bless Your Name
I bless Your Name

Some midnight hour
If you should find
You're in a prison in your mind
Reach out and praise
Defy those chains
And they will fall
In Jesus' Name

We bless Your Name
We bless Your Name
We give You honor, give You praise
You are the Life, the Truth, the Way
We bless Your Name
We bless Your Name

You are the Life, the Truth, the Way
We bless Your Name
We bless Your Name

even when I do not feel well, or times are hard, yet I bless your name! \0/
