Thinking about getting one for the car.

How much do they run?

Are they easy to install?

Do you have to get a paid service to keep it running?

Know very little about them and want to know what kind of hastle are they?

Look at the XM Radio web page, it will have all the info you need.  I you get one, get one that can go from car to house, then pay for the home kit - you can then use in either place

Thanx. Not interested in using it in the house, though. Just want to keep the same radio station as we travel. And there is one spot around here, for 3 or 4 miles, am reception is the pits at night. I think it has something to do with the airport.

But when traveling, it's a pain to keep having to look for a new station every time we get into a new city.

Another question, do they have the regular stations, too?  I like the DC talk radio.

No they don't, it is their line up.  Get one that has a tape adapter for traveling because they broadcast to an open FM channel on your regular radio.

I like it for home, the music, comedy, old time radio, sports, etc.....

I've been looking them up. It says it stores music, etc.  It sounds more like it's an IPOD, not a radio.

Some with a vehicle kit. Are they easy to install or do you have to get a pro to do it?

Scott, is the one you were talking about referred to as a "dock and play" unit?

Here's one that's portable. Does this look like a good one? Is it just a receiver and you need a computer with it?  I have no idea what I'm looking at.  (DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/SIRIUS+-+Stiletto+2+Portable+Satellite+Radio+Receiver/8545381.p?id=1188560189235&skuId=8545381&st=satellite radio

Scott

Sis there are several kind.

The in dash units, the plug and play units in which you hook it up to your car, connect to power source and affix the antenna to the roof. You then take it into the house, plug in, hook to home antenna and play.

There are portable units that has an external antenna - you can select a certain number of stations and record X number of hours for those stations.

I suggest a standard car model that and a home kit. You take the unit from car to house to car again.

No you do not need a computer to plug it in, it picks it up off the Satellite.

Vehicle Kit

Plug in to lighter
Plug in to antenna
Hook up Antenna to outside.
Each vehicle is different - I run my wire along the trim/edges out the door and under the windshield weather stripping.  Some stores will hook it up for you if you want - price may vary.

When I bought my Elantra last year, it came with XM free for a year. I looove it. I kept it on my car, and I only pay about $15-18 for a month-to-month basis.  They offer deals for when you buy several months at a time.

It's super great when I travel because I never miss a beat with my channels when I go thru different towns. :) The only time I lose reception is when I'm under like a bank awning at the drive-thru or something large enough to block my receiver.

I can't pin down a fave channel, because I have tons of presets! :)

World Traveler

I didn't see any new age music stations. :-(
That is what I listen to on AOL radio.

We have Sirius.  I love it.  We pay $13/mo.  We just have the basic pkg and it suits us great.  We travel from MO to IA and there are HOURS of not 1 good station, and sometimes no reception.

I like the clean comedy, 40's, 50's, southern gospel, black gospel, Christian, BBC news stations, classic radio theater, off the top of my head.  The best part is always having a variety that comes in clear.

Nelle

Sirius & XM are the same..

Trav: What exactly qualifies as New Age? lol..

Melody

LOL  I didn't know that Nelle, thanks.  So Sirius is simply the brand of the device, of which there are probably hundreds.  gotcha. ☺
