Title: [News] Forum Upgrade - August 2010
Post by: B on August 04, 2010, 04:33:59 PM
At approximately 10:00 pm CT tonight I will begin an upgrade of the forum. It shouldn't take more than an hour. This is a major upgrade (from the 1.1.x branch to the 2.x branch), and it will result in a new default theme and some new features.

As a result of the upgrade, we will lose the (17) themes currently installed. 1.1.x themes are not compatible with 2.x. If I have time, I may try to find a few additional themes to install, but I make no promises. We can slowly add new themes again over time. A lot of work has gone into make the default 2.x theme look nice and be user-friendly, so it shouldn't be too horrible to use. I happen to like it a lot. :teeth:

I'll post updates in this topic as I go. If you notice anything weird after the upgrade, please post a description of the issue here.

COOL! Upgrades are always good unless it's from Microsoft.

lol Actually, updates from Microsoft are vital, because they release stuff before it's ready. :teeth: But yeah, upgrading is always iffy until they get some updates out (Service Packs FTL).

The new look of the board is going to take some getting used to.  Came on tonight and had to do a double take to make sure I landed on the right site.

Would you like me to list them by screen name, real name, in order of appearance, or what?

Got tired of themes last time because there were things you couldn't do in some themes like you could in the default, so I just stick with default.
Title: Re: [News] Forum Upgrade
Post by: The Purple Fuzzy on August 05, 2010, 06:01:33 PM
I don't like some things about this new default, so I'm going to try a theme and see how that goes.

Question... Will Bright Forest logo be replaced with Godplace at the top or always say Bright Forest?

I like the look of Bright Forest the best also.  However, there is a huge gap between the top and beginning of each post.  Even a line as if the post is the person's signature.   Is this something I've affected or how the theme is?

I can just as easily use the other link myself.  Apparently some upgrades was being done on the chat itself cause when I used the other link yesterday it brought up a test page instead of the chat.

Is it just my account, or does this happen to everyone?

In the PM section, the first message on each page, is scrunched to the right with a huge green block to the left. The rest are the correct width.

And each message has a 3-4" space between the top line and the actual message.

Also, this has been happening for a long time, but when I type a message, it's ok until it scrolls below the line, then it jumps up and down and I have a hard time typing and reading the message. I don't know if I can explain it any better but it's weird.

Can you get a screenshot of your first issue?

I can't really comment on the second without experiencing it myself, and I can't duplicate it.

Knowing what theme you're using might help. Figured it out and tried Bright Forest myself. Still can't duplicate either issue.

The Print Screen button copies an image of the current screen to the clipboard. You can then paste it into an image editor.

I know. I used to use it all the time.

I've logged out and back several times. Oh well, I guess I'll have to live with it. But that jumping when I'm typing a reply drives me nuts. I don't reply as much anymore, anyway, so .... shrug.

It happens on my account no matter which computer I use. Maybe I'll send you my password, and you can check in and see for yourself. Then I'll change the password when you're done.

It jumps when I type a PM and I can't see the line that I'm typing, just the lines above it.

OverViewLight works fine for me. I'm guessing it's that your resolution is too low. You can check it by right-clicking your desktop and selecting Properties.

I just noticed something weird - not a big deal, just weird....

The sad face that posts isn't the one that is shown in the emoticon menu. And it doesn't seem to matter if I type out the shortcut, or click on it.

Mysteries, mysteries... ;)

Could be an issue with the conversion. I'll look at it in a bit.

Sis, I've had that happen occasionally on other sites, and I've never been able to figure out what the root of the problem is. Usually if I refresh once or twice it goes away. But that's not overly helpful when I'm in a hurry.  :-?
