Yes, it's that time of year again.  Time for "your's truly" to assess and indubitably rank the top college football teams in the country.  And not - as the morons in other polls do - according to how those teams rate in relation to their previous  rankings in some dubious, wholly contrived, specious, "Pre-season" polls, ... but instead, according to how each team rates in relation to the following criteria:

1)    How  well have they actually played?

2)    Who  did they play?  And how well does that other team rate in its own right?  Also, have they played at least two reasonably formidable opponents?  (the requirement for now is roughly 40-50% of their opponents must be "reasonably formidable")

...... and finally,

3)    Where  did they play?

Of course, after the performances given this past week, at this point the primary question seems to be, ... "Does anybody actually want this thing??"  I mean, seriously!  Something like half of the ranked teams laid major eggs over the weekend.  Where's Ben Stein when you need him?    ".... Anyone? .... Anyone? .... Bueller? .... Anyone?"

*sigh*

Ok, here we go:  ..... would you please give a warm welcome to, .....

1.    The University of Alabama, Crimson Tide    (queue the school's fight song)

These guys have pummeled Clemson, Arkansas, and now Georgia, and done so at Clemson, at Arkansas, and at Georgia!  .... For cryin' out loud!  What more should a team have to do to be ranked #1 after five games??  Well, in this here poll the answer is "nuthing".  They have clearly established themselves as the #1 team, and they have done so on the field (where it counts);  and more amazingly they have done so on the road!

Wow!  How do you not rank these guys #1 ??

2.  (Tie)    Penn State

They crushed Oregon State (the same Oregon State that smacked mighty USC in the mouth last Thursday night), went to the Dome at Syracuse and rolled them, and beat Illinois this weekend.

2.  (Tie)    South Florida

They beat Kansas (which has almost all of their players back from last year's highly ranked team), and went to NC State yesterday and drubbed them 41-10.

4.    LSU Tigers

A good win at Auburn (although at this point I'm not quite sure how good Auburn is), and they beat Miss. State yesterday.

5.    BYU Cougars

They went to Washington and beat the Huskies, then crushed UCLA 59-0, and have won their last two games by a combined score of 103-0  ....... (yes, you read that correctly).

Honourable Mention:   The Connecticut Huskies.  They won at Louisville yesterday, and they walloped UVA a few weeks ago (but UVA has been everyone's doormat this season, so I can't really count that one as a quality win).

Teams that didn't make the list because their schedules have thus far been littered with patsies:    Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Utah.

FSU has played nothing but "High School" teams thus far. :smirk2: And we even lost to one of 'em.

How shameful.

*sigh*

But I will plug ahead and stay a Seminole.
Have you slapped that one dude from Indiana with a pie in the face today?

Well, they looked pretty good against Colorado on Saturday.  There is that.   ....... but yeah, overall they've fallen pretty far from their old "Glory Days".  Then again, at least they're not UVA (they'll be lucky to win even one game this season - they have become Duke; how sad is that?).
