This DVD works!
I had a bunch of pics that someone wanted made into a slideshow, for playing at a funeral tomorrow. I'm audio, I don't have anything to do with video, and it's surprising how much I don't know how to do with computers. So I learned about Windows Movie Maker, how a cd made with WMM will NOT work in a DVD player, how to convert a .wmv movie file to a DVD-friendly set with DVD Flick, and I burned the result with a DVD burn program.
Yay for freeware and google!

Back in the early 90'S, I had a friend that would go to one Pizza hut asking for a few pizza boxes to use to deliver pies for something then take those boxes make them greasy, looking like they had pizzas in them, Take them to another Pizza Hut saying that he got either bad pizzas or wrong orders and of course he supposedly made these orders at closing time so he couldn't contact the store when he found they were wrong. I don't see why a church dont offer pick up. I was going to the ALJC here. But living out of the way from anyone there it was hard getting ride at times. I am now going to an independant Apostolic because they run a church bus and Brandons now liking that church.

On the topic of rides... a nice boy who rides the church bus moved to a town an inconvenient distance away, and the mother called me asking if anyone lived there. I almost laughed because only about a third of the whole congregation lives in that town, and most of the staff lives there. If a meteor ever wiped out our neighboring town there would be a hole in our church big enough to drive a tanker truck through.

Sounds like me waiting on my music transcoder. When I convert 10 or 12 music files from wav or FLAC to mp3 or ogg or something it will give me a time estimate, how long it should take. When I do my whole music collection to ogg for a copy to put on my media player it doesn't even try to estimate how much time. Gonna be a while.

Y'know you could just download and try them all. They're free, no reason not to. With 512 megs ram, ram is not the issue. Try a different OS till you find one that works.

That's about par for the course with sourdough. Fill the pan 1/3 full and it will be over the top before baking. Downside is it takes longer than with packaged yeast, about 3 or 4 hours to rise, and you need to let it rise two times.
im not making sour dough, thats the thing. its just basic white bread. never rises near this much lol but oh well

Reading the story of the prodigal son got me thinking about this. We read how the Father welcomed the son with open arms But it also tells of the other brother who did not feel the prodigal brother worthy because he wasn't faithful to the father the whole time.
We pay so much attention to the fallen and returning son but I think the other part is just as important. Could Jesus also be using this to warn us that though He welcomes us back others are not so welcoming and at some times downright discouraging. It just seems so often thats what we see and I think its good to emphasize the second part to encourage those that though others might reject but God is stil there with open arms

i was thinking about trying to get one and use it for some online courses. no way i can go out enough to attend somewhere but could at least maybe get some certs and stuff online. duno
If you do, do it with a local community college. Thats what I do, If you do it with some of the online colleges they charge an arm and a leg
i cant get out enough for the community college here. will have to be something online. but its not that expensive to get certifications and thats all i need. i dont really need to take courses. i have two masters, one in music and one in deaf ed. just cant use either since the strokes.

there is a site that i can pay around $250 for a years subscription and you can take cert tests on it. if you pay for a full year your tests are unlimited. i may just end up going that route

My grandmother buys Silk (tm) soy milk, on account of real dairy can give her sinus headaches. She tried Silk (tm) almond milk and liked it. Silk (tm) has come out with something else... coconut milk. She bought some of it and tried it... she and I both pronounced it slimy and all-around unpalatable.
I told her to not throw it out, I was plotting. When I got home tonight I made a batch of homemade pudding with it. Not bad.
I've done that a lot, used something that was unwanted to make something that is, if not very good, at least edible. I have decided my main strength in the kitchen is not in making great things, but taking what is available and making the best of it.

i worked 3rd shift for so many years, i still have trouble sleeping normal hours. but mostly sleep an hour or two at a time, then awake for awhile, then repeat. never sleep more than a couple of hours at a time unless im sick or having one of the "stroke days" as i call them, where i do nothing but sleep, since i had that last stroke, but those are rare
Ugh... I worked 3rd shift twice in my life. I could do it, but I never did get a full "night" of sleep.
i did 3rd for wow years lol even when i was raising the kids and homeschooling, my husband worked 3rd, so we kept his schedule, both my boys are night people too lol after they grew up and left home and i divorced, i was so used to being up all night, i just got jobs on that shift, was just too used to it by then
Well that's one way of doing it. If you're homeschooling and the whole house can go to night shift it does make it easier, for a fact. Most of your friends' interesting stuff happens at night anyway. :D
hahah right, i never knew how much ppl were up and doing "stuff" until then lol got to where everyone called me when in trouble in the middle of the night cause they knew i was always awake lol cant say how many i bailed outa jail, picked up from bars, etc lol

On the downside you didn't have to go to bed when your friends did, so you always had to remind yourself to leave parties at a reasonable time... reasonable for other people that is. ;)

Actually I had realized I forgot to take my medicines I take at night and for some reason my potassium prescription tells me not to lay down for 30 min after taking it so I got online lol
I have never figured out why they want you to not lay down though lol
A quick google would probably answer that. Maybe something to do with possible acid reflux and the effects of free potassium in your esophagus (just off the top of my head.)

Well whataya know... Barb I do have a mic. This monitor I had to use with my laptop that has a bad backlight, it has speakers and a mic. Takes AV input for speakers and has a standard 1/16th port for the mic. Dunno how many times I've used this monitor for various desktops that have come through here, and never noticed it.

legally if you tell them (it has to come from the person that they are calling by name) if its a guy and ur hubby is not there, let brandon say he is the guy, but you have to say yes you are who they are calling then say "remove me from your call list, i am on the national do not call list"
if you say that phrase, then by law they have to remove you. afterwards if you get further calls, you can file a complaint with the dnc list people.

TL. We have 4 bedrooms. And a motorhome that will sleep 3. So with a couple of air mattresses in the office, 2 in the guest room, and one person sleeping with me, that's room for 8 guests.
For our family reunion, we had 9 guests cause I slept on the couch. And that was everyone staying in the house and not in the motorhome. It was insane! But FUN!
I also should mention...we only have one bathroom. :o

We manage. So far we havent had any major problems. There is just three of us here most of the time. When we have company, there has to be a bit of planning ahead for showers and stuff, but we still haven't ever had any problems.
There used to be two bathrooms, but the people who lived here before us, made the two bathrooms into one BIG one.
And no, we got a house instead of the doublewide we were looking at.
Back to the bathroom thing, we are gonna eventually make it back into two bathrooms...and I will be the one who ends up with my own personal bathroom, and not have to share when we have company! :clap:
Mom and Dads bathroom will be off the hallway still. Hehe!

By the way Barb... Or Babs... or whatever, is there a certain style of music you like? Or is there a certain style you can't stand? I usually try to configure to the person's known taste in music. I have some stuff some people really hate, like bluegrass gospel, black choir and etc.
only two types i don't like, the new country (or so called country) to me if its real country its hank williams, patsy cline kind of stuff. hate female opera (cant stand that high pitch screaming lol)
bluegrass is ok as long as i dont have to listen to it for days at a time, i get in moods i like to hear it.
black gospel is good but very repetitive lol
i love worship, blues, jazz, classical, folk.
Well you know me, I deal with that repetitive stuff. If it's a good song but they repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat at the end of it, I load it in my music editor and cut out most of the repeats. Save two (or four, whatever sounds good) and fade out/fade in (never crossfade, that's a sloppy and very acoustically bad way of doing it) and you can't tell where I cut it. Sometimes *I* can't tell where I cut it, and I'm the one who edited it. ;)

Myself I don't see the attraction of social networks, so I don't have a horse in this race. I know they can be useful, I know some people have had problems with them, I know I have no current use for them and if I had one I would probably have better things to do than spend all day on one. But it's interesting to see what arguments people come up with... from both sides.
Then again, I heard of one preacher who preached against tennis shoes...
It all comes down to trying the spirit to see if it be of God. And not just deciding it does/does not come from God depending on whether you do/do not agree with it. ;)

i agree. only prob is, most that had the prob with tv, cant control it on the net. i watched so many ppl in the upc churches come to my house and bring their movies to watch on my tv, cause i was a sinner and could own one. kinda messed up i think. or they would go to the hospital for something and watch tv non stop.

Well it seems we're really going to have this discussion, so...
Personally I don't like TVs. I won't preach against them from the pulpit, but to me a TV is very different from the internet. The internet is a "pull" medium, you go out and get what you want. The TV is a "push" medium, you sit passively and watch whatever is being broadcast.
But more than that, to me a TV just feels insidious somehow. When it's off people in a room talk. When it's on everyone just sits and stares, and if you try to talk about something it's a real battle to keep their attention.
I'm not saying it's a sin, but I do think it's one of the weights the guy in the Bible spoke of. I don't think anyone will go to hell for owning a TV but I do believe everyone who has a TV would be better off without one.
i agree 100%. i have a tv but no cable for it. i can pick up 2 local stations, and very occasionally watch the news but its very rare.
i do have shows i like, so i download them and watch them. no commercials that way, and i control what i see.
but its getting to where the internet is a push anymore, with all the ads and spam. you almost cant control what you see anymore. and now you have families that live on the net, sitting in their rooms alone, talking to each other on fb, yahoo, etc
there are wonderful ways to use the internet for ministry and know some ppl that do it successfully
i dont have a prob if anyone wants one or the other in their home. just dont use it somewhere else, then preach against it. be honest about it is my point.
i see good and bad for internet. really dont see much use for tv lol
What you said about families sitting online, talking to each other online when they're in the same room, reminds me of a recent cartoon run. Two guys greet each other in a restaurant, sit down and play with their smartphones the whole time. Once one of them asks another (via smartphone) "Hey, you wanna meet for lunch?" The other says, "Dude, you're sitting right across the table from me." "Sorry, spaced on your coordinates for a minute."

ah it was grand!
first i had to stop by albertsons (the grocery store) and as i came out this lady that was about 80 or so was struggling to get her basket of stuff in her car, poor thing kept dropping everything and she was crying when i saw her. i stopped and asked why and she said she dropped and broke all her eggs, and just didnt have the strength to go back and get more. she was so discouraged, seems she lives alone and has no one (like i can relate)
i got her in the car and told her to wait. went and bought her some new eggs and took them to her.
when i gave them to her she said, wow u must know the real Jesus because ppl just dont do this kind of stuff anymore.
i got her phone number and gave her mine. hopefully it can lead to some bible study, or at least a new friendship. but felt good to see her smile.
second, i had stopped by a place where i know this homeless guy lives, i posted a pic on fb. well he wasnt there and i was kinda sad and said a prayer for him, asking God to keep him safe.
later while i was at the shop, he walked in! i was so happy! he had come with a clothing voucher to get something to wear. we talked for about 20 mins or so and he talked about how he loves to read but never has enough extra money to buy books and that the library dont like him to come in and sit and read, guess they dont like dirty folks.
anyways i went to the back and talked to the manager and she told shannon that someone had donated $5 for him to go buy some books. (he would never have let me buy him anything)
poor guy cried as if someone had given him a million dollars.
felt good. blessed two ppl with less than $7 and left them with the thought of how much Jesus loves them and has not forgotten them.
Even if you're in a nursing home (God forbid, it's BORING there!) you could go around talking to and praying for/with people. There's always something you can do. :)

If you did though, I'd recommend the one where my aunt is the activities director. She's a nut and so is my grandmother (who volunteers there a lot) and it's generally a fun place. Or at least not as boring as most nursing homes.
And my grandmother is still without a car, so today I can say that I drove my grandmother to the nursing home. :D She came back though...

I take a B-50 every day. Vitamin Bs help the body convert food to energy. Maybe why I can eat so much and not put on weight. Maybe not.

well decided to make myself get out one last time before the storms get here, so was walking across the street to the little store to visit a bit, and i ran into the director of the homeless shelter i had stayed in. she was heading to the chinese place to eat and offered to buy me lunch :fork: (like i am going to say no lol
we had a good visit although i consider her a plastic friend, (one that is so fake lol) she is only my friend when she has computer problems and wants me to either fix it or tell her how to fix it lol

Well it's not doing any good as-is. I took it to the computer repair shop and they couldn't duplicate the symptoms, even though I demonstrated it when I took it in. Had the thing for a solid week and never even figured out that anything WAS wrong... After a week I had to show them the problem all over again. Forget it, I'll take a stab at it myself.
If I do nothing it's useless. If I fail it will still be useless. If I succeed, I will have a good laptop back in working order. Here goes nothin.

Well it didn't work. I figured out the problem is not with the inverter, battery pack or video cable, therefore it is a flakey motherboard. Therefore... it's time to dissect this thing and learn something. Bwahahaha and all that stuff.

what kind of issue is it having?
It reboots whenever you move the screen relative to the main body, which led me to suspect a short in the inverter. But it kept doing it when everything from the screen side was detached. Something is shorted on the motherboard, I don't know what and the computer "repair" places won't fix motherboard problems. Incredibly they don't seem to know any more than I.

And yes, "repair" was in quotes for a reason. Anyone can unplug a modular hard drive, ram, etc and put in another one. >.>

I'm up to about 5 feet, 7 inches myself. My computer is up to speed with all I want to install, now to make a backup image so I won't have to do all this junk again!
Maybe I'll make a backup image and keep it around just in case, then go completely to Linux. In Linux all I would have had to do was make a list of programs I want in Synaptic Package Manager, hit Apply and let it run.

FINALLY! I got this computer set up just the way I wanted and the image DVDs are burnt. Now to have some fun! :D
I don't know whether to install a nice, sane Linux first or to start on this new soundtrack "He's Alive" first. But since Easter is about 1.5 months away I guess I'll start on the soundtrack.

Okay so I now have an arena of sorts made of folding tables with three laptops, a big end-table with a bunch of computer peripherals and an 88 key keyboard against the wall on the other end, with my rolling desk chair in the middle. The peripherals table holds an impressive mountain of stuff - three external hard drives, two external DVD burners, at least three flash drives (that I know of), three media players that double as flash drives, assorted CDs and cassette tapes, an Altec Lansing portable speaker, earbuds, two 4-port USB hubs...
Too much? Naaaaah, I could really use another laptop, and some more flash drives would really be handy. :P
Maybe I should start trying to find a home for some of this stuff. Anyone need a laptop that has a bad backlight? Still works if you connect it to a monitor and use it as a desktop.

They have their uses. FLAC for compression archive of my whole music collection, .ogg for a very small but still good sounding copy for my Cowon iaudio 7.

mp3 I wouldn't touch with a ten meter lightning rod, much less a ten foot pole. Too much quality loss for too little compression at all levels. Only time I use mp3 is when I'm going to be sending someone an audio file... All computers and audio players play it by default, so no risk of "Hey how do you get this to play?"
