Title: The best...why?
Post by: Assuredbyfaith on January 12, 2015, 04:53:01 PM
What's the best thing that has ever happened on GP... to you/ your life? Your favorite moment/ memories? What has GP been to you?

It's had some good, some bad, and some ugly.

The GP moments that impacted me the most...
The phone chats with 9+ people
When Thomas joined...
When Thomas died.
When roscoe joined.
The meet ups.  I like you guys just as much in person as on here, if not more.
The weddings.
And the fact that I consider my GP friends my real friends... And most everyone else acquaintances.

I am more honored than I can ever say to have made this list. Seriously.

And having said that- :pound: mini :pound: for instigating the events of the day he references. At least my singing over the ham radio didn't make the list. :sadbounce:

Every moment I am on here  has been great. But the moments that impact me most is the moments that occurred because of gp, not necessarily ON Gp. The meetups- from discovering Mini and I have similar interests and meeting and becoming friends/ brothers with his family. Meeting Taco and the clown and seeing their Holy Ghost was REAL...walking in the prayer room with Taco showed me more of his character and walk with God than anything he could've done consciously. ....Meeting Chel, hearing her questions about relationships and "how will you know?" questions, then watching when Burrito came along and they changed to " Oh....that's how you know- no doubt." :laughhard:
Meeting Isaac- Meeting Newsman- meeting the Fuzzy Beastie, albeit briefly....all great moments.  Hopefully a few more of you I shall meet....
And as referred to before- Thomas. The phone calls, the joking, the wedding plans- and the loss.
This place is the best. Being a lot more reserved in real life than here, I can promise that had I met y'all at a church event or something, I'd never have spoken to you and would've been huddled in a corner, very uncomfortable. But y'all here- ya drug me out of my shell, gave me a vent place, prayed for me, and have made my life so much better. Yep- GP is the best.  :thumbsup2: :thumbsup2: (in the American sense, Mel, should you read this.)

Something had happened, and Roscoe was unable to access his internet for a few days.  With that in mind, we made up all kinds of stories about him, spread *cough*mis*cough*information, and caused him to have a slight stroke when he came back...LOL

Meeting Rainbowjingles and making her my wife.
Gaining Brothers and Sisters who I consider and love like they're my own blood family from here to Oregon.
Watching Burrito's face lose all color and expression when I asked him one question. lol
Meeting Thomas after many late night talks only a few months before he went home.
knowing I'll meet him again.
The BUBBAS! Men who I want to be like and have spoke GOD into my life more than once. I want to be a Man of GOD like them.

Ok...the best things that have ever happened.

Meeting Roscoe.  He is Petit Jeans (no, not skinny jeans.  The thought of him in skinny jeans is *shudder*) best tour guide.  And he has caused me to buy Sam (https://www.facebook.com/samthe52chevy).

Meeting Taco.  The gentle giant.  Ill never forget the sermon he shared with me.  Listened to it on the way to mow the church yard, spent the first hour on my face in front of the altar praying after hearing that.

The hours ive spent talking to and texting Roscoe and Taco.  My ministry brethren.

Meeting Rainbow Jingles.  My wife and I would adopt her if we could.

Taco and Rainbow getting married.

Meeting Ruby (and the rest of the crew).  And knowing why that meetup was called stargazers 2009.  And the resulting wedding from that meetup.

The gravy wars.  Anyone who eats chocolate gravy is fit for a insane asylum.

Chels hugs.  If that girl hugs you, you dont come unhugged for months.

Chel getting married.  I approve of her husband.

PF.  She is a saint.

Momma TJ and her cooked possum.

Cletus, his pink cammo, Sarba Ann, and Hetter.

The jokes i started on here.  Waves @ Bob.  ...in accordance to prophecy.

Another thing...

I cannot say what it was or who it was, but one Christmas a poster sent me a gift out of the Blue and said he/she was told by God to do it. (I made a promise)

It was an amazing gift and one of the more expensive gifts I've ever received in my life.

I still have it and make use of it nearly every day.  I will never forget the kindness.

The best things:
~ All the times someone validated and encouraged me.
~ All the times someone gave me a needed kick in the seat of my pants skirt.
~ All the discussions that got me thinking outside of my own box. Some of them even (over time) changed my mind about a few things. Shocking, I know.
~ The Domers meetup, including golf carts, late nights, phone calls to other GPers in the middle of the night, green doors, Mel getting mad 'cause Justin got the first hug, meeting Seth and realizing he's way less gloomy in person and the he has an absolutely zany sense of humor that's even better in person than on the board (and goodness knows he makes me laugh often enough online!), baptism in the hotel pool, first chat on the phone with my hubby to be (who threw that phone at me anyway??? I owe you big time. He said I sounded "cute".  Whatever. I got to marry him, so I'll forgive the "cute" thing.)
~ The Stargazers meetup, including a late night trip to the airport to pick up Elona (with a certain somebody in the van that I ended up marrying), Sandra - who makes EVERYONE feel completely at ease and loved in her home, Sir John's bustamove, Apples to Apples ("Innocent gloves??" "Ummmm...... " *Chel laughs*), a walk with Aaron and Chel where we DID NOT GET LOST (much) :biglaugh:, bumper boats and a certain dunking (well, okay, not a dunking - an almost dunking), stargazing in a cow pasture :freaky2:, praying and praying and praying out in the same cow pasture in the very early morning because I was scared out of my mind and ever so happy at the same time, meeting Michel and Mini (and wishing we would have had a longer time to chat, but... uhh... I was a bit preoccupied that afternoon)
~ Realizing that some friendships I've made here are the truly forever kind, because regardless of whether I get to see anyone again on this planet, I'll get to see them in another time and place.
~ Being completely humbled and excited and teary at the number of GPers who showed up for our wedding. And who volunteered to take photos, decorate, watch kids, run errands, and generally help out whenever and however, because pretty much everything was falling apart at that point. (Seriously, you will never know just how much that meant. Especially those of you who picked up on certain yucky family stress and slipped up by me to give me a hug and whisper encouragement at JUST the right moments.)
~ Elona's face when I picked her and Jason up and she told me they were engaged. (Yes, I screamed.)
~ Jason's face when she told me they were engaged.
~ Jason's face when he was watching Elona while she was helping me, and she didn't know he was watching.
~ Christmas cards from GP friends, when I couldn't participate in the Cmas card exchange
~ Mel texting and texting and calling and texting and calling and mailing care packages after my miscarriage to make sure I was okay and to remind me that I was loved and God was still holding me in His hand.
~ A freezer showing up at my door that I didn't order, but that said was to be delivered to rWooby. A freezer I use CONSTANTLY.

The worst moments:
~ Getting almost-marriage-proposals in private messages from single guys I had no interest in.
~ Thomas's death
~ Seeing certain friends walk away from God and start walking down very, very dark paths leading away from anything to do with righteousness and holiness.

I have never had a speeding ticket...truth!! Not that I don't speed sometimes!!  :hypocrite: My first ticket was my word against the cop( failure to stop; others said they had seen that I stopped) so in a small town you know you won't win...I paid; and then I asked the judge if he would kindly have the ticket taken off my record; "I am 27 years old and have never had a ticket"!! His jaw dropped and he said he had no problem with that! Although, I have never checked to see if it was still on there!

The things I remember the most.

1.) Someone sent me a PM and asked me to teach her about baptism. I taught her a bible study via PM on Acts 238.

That weekend she was baptized and I was able to confirm it via the pastor that did it.

2.) We saved a life once.

One Saturday night I opened GP  just before bedtime. Just minutes after a newbie posted a suicide note. I called my internet provider Tech Support and they helped me ping the IP address, we made contact with the police and they got a cop and EMS to her house - just in time. They called me 18 hours later. They had her in a hospital.

To my knowledge  - she was not an apostolic at all. No idea how she found us.

The cops told me that there were problems in that home that would be addressed.

Never had a speeding ticket, but I did take the back stairs out at church with the church van. It wasn't totally my fault though. Someone left the window open and the floorboard flooded. My wet shoe slipped from the  brake onto the gas. Stairs were destroyed but the van had minor damage.

As with most stories, there are elements of truth and fiction... :biglaugh:
Since you are a recycled :newbie: and don't know me- I am 1) a cop, formerly a patrol Sergeant who was in a very dark place until God answered my wife's prayers about 6 months before I found this place (about 5 years ago) and gave me a cushy job at the State Capitol of Arkansas, where I am a full fledged, certified cop with statewide jurisdiction, performing the duties of security for the Capitol.
In that capacity, I interact daily with my state senators, representatives, and even get to have small conversations with the Governor and other high and mighty dignitaries like my state's congressmen and US senators among others.
The incident Isaac is referring to- we have a state senator who is a fiddler in a bluegrass band. It is not unusual to hear him playing the fiddle in the common area of the capitol before session starts, often accompanied by another senator on guitar, a lobbyist or two on banjo, and some singing. I, however, have difficulty playing a cd player, and do not partake other than as a joyful listener, since I love bluegrass.

I actually had a few of them in my time and I am still shaking my head about them.

One chick - Agnes I will call her was an absolute stalker. She followed me around when I was on dates and tried to interject herself into the date. She actually followed us to the restaurant and barged into our little private booth and demanded we visit her house. We did to be nice, played UNO with her and her drunk dad.  Creeeepy place.   She once sent balloon flowers to me at work with other peoples name on it and when I finally told Her to back off and seek someone else. She ran me over with her car.

The others were just 15/16 year old girls who insisted it was Gods will for me to marry them.  I was a youth leader to one and a visiting evangelist for the other. I had to ignore the phone calls and letters.

I once had a gal that made up stories about her and I. I showed up to church one day after giving her a ride home. It was all over the church and she and I had been ''parking'' the night before.  I confronted her about it and she denied all. But she was the only one who knew I gave her a ride home.

I've had several stalkers...one would go to mgmt if I didn't walk into work with them; take break with them. Several times mgmt came to me saying ..."so, and so says you won't talk to them; and that you spend too much time with this person"!  :o I was like what is this? Kindergarten? It got to be that they would wait for me in the parking lot so they could park by me; and walk in with me! So when I would get fast food as a quick snack before work; they would sit there in the car watching me eat! 😐 I started hiding, and coming in at odd times!!!

Stalkers are creepy.

I had one about 2 years after my wife I got married. She refused to believe I was married, I showed her my wedding ring, introduced her to my wife and coworkers tried to explain that I was married.

She'd bring me coffee and donuts (or bagels) in the morning.  She kept her time card in the same slot as mine. She'd punch my time card in when she punched hers in (the boss found out when he noticed my card had 2 punch ins and 2 punch outs each day) and she always went to lunch when I did and made sure she sat next to me in the lunch room. Then - she kept asking me to move in with her. She looked normal, to the rest of the company she acted normal and she was a very pretty gal.  Just a creepy stalker.  My employer figured out what she was doing and found a way to fire her.

We had one at church that hated my wife. She would literally push my wife out of the way if we were walking side by side and grab my arm.  She'd find reasons to sit by me in church or in the fellowship hall.

She convinced the senior pastor that she needed marriage counseling and wanted me to do it because I ran a law office and could explain the paperwork to her. She once told him that she was mad at me and that I never apologized to her. She said I knew what it was. (I did not) He called me in and yelled at me, I told him that I had no idea what he was talking about. He demanded that I spend some time of the phone with her and get it straightened out.  I talked to her, it took nearly 2 hours to get rid of her. She wanted Male Attention.  The next day the pastor and I had a heart to heart. I let him know that if she had problem in the future - he was dealing with it.

*sigh*

I second what JenN said.  Why does that kind of exciting stuff never happen to me?  I've never had a stalker.

Be glad you've never had a stalker. THEY ARE NOT FUN!

Over the years I've had more than my share.  (Occupational hazard) I've had people put Vaseline on the steps leading to my apartment, follow me, call me at all hours of the night, threaten to kill me and my family and send nasty letters. I started keeping a loaded gun, got over protective dogs, have had the police monitoring my phone calls, kept unlisted phone numbers and finally did away with land lines. I have a carry permit and do carry a gun with me.

One stalker actually wrote a letter to the Gen. Sup of the UPCI along with various organizational officials; to tell them that I was being picked on by other preachers and that I was going to sue them.  She then sent a copy of the letter to me and promised to testify on my behalf.  Yeah - try going to camp after that happened.

:nono: :nono: YOU DON'T WANT A STALKER!!!!!   :nono:  :nono:

I never got your phone number.  Bobby gave me his so I could call for where/when we meet for breakfast while I was down there.  That's why I can occasionally torment him.

Until he changes his number, that is... But he still has the same one, which means I'm not tormenting him enough.  I need to step up my game.

You couldn't torment me enough to change my number. It's took me 5 years to remember it, I ain't about to change and start all over again.

And why do y'all never have a meetup here?  We have lots better places than the cracker barrel I met taco at before. But you folks keep passing good ole Tennessee by.

I'm actually thinking of heading that way this summer or possibly the end of march! What are some good scenic areas? Drives? With the exception of Memphis...I don't want to go there again! 😐

No, you don't want to go to or through Memphis.  Some places you don't even want to stop for gas.

Natchez Trace is a nice scenic north-south route. Speed limit 50mph and do NOT go one mile per hour over.

Shiloh park has some scenic drives and trails if you're into war history. Or if you're not, just ignore the history markers and enjoy the view.

Interstate 40 has a marvelous view just outside of Crossville (east TN) where the interstate goes around the side of a mountain and a whole city is spread out before you.  Also beautiful at night.
