in another artical my wife started some one said cinnamon helped with nic-fits. i gotta quit smoking! any body got any good ways of doing this. i tried cold turkey but mean, nervous, hungry and angry is me when i tried this. thnx yo
Some can go cold turkey and make it. Others have to work the habit down little at a time. There have also been some that God delivers instantly from the habit. Main thing is don't give up the quest to quit smoking. With the help of God and the support of friends you can do it.
as with all addictions... (someone told me once or i read once)- you may mess up every now and then, but you have to never quit quitting.
I was very fortunate that my dad caught me about a month after I got started with smoking and duly threatened me with I would either give up the cigarettes or I wouldn't be helping out with things at church. Because of that the habbit didn't go any further in my life and that was back in the summer of 99 that I got caught. Even with the short time I was involved in smoking I still have occasions where I have to battle with the desire to light up another cigarette but I know its worth resisting that desire because giving in would just give it another foothold in my life to bind me with addiction.
OK Ciggie butts were another thing I had trouble getting rid of. I prayed constantly. I read someplace, don't pray when you're finished with it. Pray while you're doing it. It took a looooong time but God took it one day and that last one didn't even taste good. I didn't have any trouble after that because it was God's work. It took a long time, though.
I prayed that I never wanted to quit, never thought of quitting but I knew He didn't want me harming my body and it wasn't pleasing to Him so I would need help getting rid of it. Stuff like that.
Now, there are patches and gum over the counter so you can try that stuff AND pray. God wants you, if you're having trouble, he will help you but I guess he wanted to know I was serious.
i've herd of pepermint candy, rubber bands on wrist, keeping full unopened pack in pockett, smoking untill sick, cinnamon, prayer. iknow i have to be patient with god cause he works on his own time not mine, but the others dont or wouldnt seem to work for me. patches and such are much higher than smoking. i can barely afford smokes. i figured it up and in a years time i could knock a BIG dent in the vacation my wife wants to disney world. seems like that would be motivation enuff. addiction!!!! thnx yo

Never quit quitting....that was in a book I think...I read it somewhere too...
Oh wait. I know where it was. It was in a thread here. Yeah...I remember that. ;)
It's not just motivation. That addiction is a lot stronger in some of us.
I don't know how many times I'd try on my own. It just didn't work. Once I was even walking down the street and there was a LIT whole cigarette. Well, after day three you know what I did!
The devil was in it for sure. He had to be. Another time, I found a half a pack laying on the ground with the matches stuck in the package. So there we went again. It was a horrible experince fighting the devil and the addiction at the same time.
You're not alone. You're not the only one. Some can do it alone. Stevebert did, but I couldn't. It was just too strong and was beating me at every turn.
God loves you. Pray. God will make a way, even if he takes his time doing it. The way might be the patch or the gum or just plain his intervention, but he will do it.
BTW, I've been reading that drug for quitting smoking you get from the doctor, is bad stuff. It can make some emotionally a wreck and suicidal. I'd avoid that stuff.
not goin doctor rt.. gonna try to do it with out patch-them thangs are hi. i just cant seem to find the LAST ciggi. its always just one more,ok just one more pack, maybe just one more carton. will power! where is it?
I've never had to quit smoking, but, I've watched my mom quit. She got so sick back in December that she had no choic but to quit. She is on oxygen, prolly for the rest of her life. My dad is in the process of quitting. He was really sick for about 3 wks, and hasn't been able to handle them. He wants to not pick it back up, but, with all the stress he is under, I don't know if that's gonna happen or not. I pray that he doesn't pick it up.
I have no idea how a person can quit.
your will, and want to has to be Stronger than your Addiction.
The angry stuff starts because basically the body stops regulating blood sugar when you smoke.
The body is efficient; if something else is doing it quicker, why would it waste resources?
It takes a cigarette nothing flat, couple of seconds - to raise blood sugar, the body does it naturally in about 7 to ten minutes. This is why a person wants a smoke after a meal.
It usually takes cinnamon about ten minutes to work, if you take it on an empty stomach you will feel the 'warmth' in about that time.
By taking 2 cinnamon capsules or just a teaspoon of powdered cinnamon right before you eat, you can avoid the serious crankies when quitting, if you eat regularly.
It takes about two months after cold turkey quitting for the blood sugar regulation to completely get back to normal.
so taslagi.what you said may have merit. a orderly diet may curb nic attaks and crankies with cinnamon. i wonder what meals could attribute to conqering this habbit or addiction. being a trucker my diet is messed up anyway. mostly when driving hard all i have is a over ample amount of mt.dew and in 5hrs driving i can smoke as much as half a pack of ciggs. and not eat for a day or two. when at home i eat about 2mls a day and dont smoke but maybe a pack a day. i feel that if i can quit smoking and drinking mt.dew i could be a lot healthier. :banghead: :tearhair:
my dad prayed (when my twin and I were 7 and my parents divorced) that if he got custody of us, he'd quit smoking!! He got custody of us, and threw his ciggi's down the toilet and never touched another one..........and it was 5 YEARS later before he even GOT the Holy Ghost!!!!
God CAN and WILL help you!!!!
At my old clinic, one patient who quit smoking bought himself a brand new computer after 6 months with all the money he saved by quitting!!!!
My (late) FIL quit smoking when he found out he had throat cancer----he lived 19 additional years and my MIL quit the day HE did because she didn't want to smoke in front of him.
As far as suggestions, I don't have any.............I've never tried smoking...........ever.........but I DO KNOW it can be very hard to quit...........but don't give up on giving up!!!! God sees your effort, even if you are STILL smoking!!!

Brother all I can say is I will be praying for you. I never had the habit of smoking (while I had my own issues). I have heard people talk about how hard it is to stop. So with that and anything else people have trouble with I say love them and pray for them. So things a harder to lay down than others. My thought and prayers are with. Sorry I could not give better advice, but I don't know what works. But I am on your side.
i think the best advise has already been shared, keep on keeping on quiting. and a truth from the heart is i trully dont think i have put enuff effort into it. i just think of quiting and it sends me on a smoking frenzy.
1. prayer
2. quit
3. willpower
4. some more prayer
5. repeat till quit

Still praying for you every day.
as much time as ya'll are spending together fellowshipping, bro Yos, you'll be quit in no time!!!!! If you don't smoke around bro. Dad, then just spend more time with them!! LOL
seriously, praying for you!!! I've heard it is SOOOO hard to quit!!!!!
soooooo very hard. i have sat and wondered and tried to give myself incentive to quit but it aint working. seems like wanting to be closer to Gods will would do it.
seems like wanting to be healthy would do it. seems like the more i want to quit the more i smoke. :-(
Been there did that, and burned the tee shirt. I never thought I'd beat that monster. It's worse than heroin. At least with heroin there are drugs. Speaking of which, have you tried nicorette? Some say it does help, even if you're still smoking, you will find yourself smoking less all the time.
yeah it helps very little. that stuff is high though. makes me sick. i have a slight problem with my heart and things like that make it act up. also cant do the energy drinks or diet pills. its like my heart goes to beating real fast but isnt pumping any blood. i get shaky and weak when it happens. spells some times last 5 mins to 20 min.-yo
one thing i can say ciggs dont taste as good as they use to!!
i was at the sherman church and a visiting preacher told me to drink the olive oil as he prayed for me to quit smoking. after the service the preacher of the church sayed he started to tell me he'd get a new bottle(fresh),before he could say anything, gulp, gulp, gulp, the old bottle had been there for a long time.
it was nasty!! when i smoke on a long trip, the ciggs taste just like that oil. blahhhh.
-yo :pound:
seems like you could replace that "smoking" with any other bad habit- and the struggle is the same. I don't struggle with smoking, but i do have other bad habits i wish to see totally gone... and the same stuff you are saying applies.
For Example:
soooooo very hard. i have sat and wondered and tried to give myself incentive to quit but it aint working. seems like wanting to be closer to Gods will would do it.
seems like wanting to be healthy would do it. seems like the more i want to quit the more i do it.
if its that close to what i'm going through, you got it bad. *prays for sunlight*
Not that I would ever do it but I thought I would pass along something a preacher that came to preach for me one time told me. Now this happened somewhere else and He was just telling me about it. "Seems a woman came up for prayer, she said Brother Preacher pray that I can stop smoking, the preacher put his hands on her head and said Lord if she lights another strike her dead".
Now Brother Yosemite I am not praying that way. I am praying for God's Grace and Mercy to help you stop.
Love you guys
wowsers!!! wonder if she quit.. thanks bro. but i need to get it in my head that that may be the reason for the second death if i dont quit.
holding on to these things, i feel is a holding on to the lusts and desires of the flesh and needs to be gone.
i guess to a non-smoker this seems rediculus. like eating an apple, you can eat it or not. goes a little deeper than that.

thing is i smoke and find it rediculus too!! LOL

Praying for you sir! we can do this!

Sis waves at Mesi :hi:
:hi:
hey sis
I know there`s a lotta talk going around today
About cigarette smoking whittling your life away
I`ve seen it and I`ve heard it so many times
That finally it just started to prey on my mind
I guess it scared me a little bit
That`s why I decided I was gonna quit
So while I was sitting here forming my battle plan
I took another puff and turned on the fan
I just sat there in my easy chair
And thought of all the money I`d wasted on cigarettes all these years
I thought how I`d spend the rest of my days
After I kick this habit my body craves
Said to myself this ain`t gonna be so tough
With that little bit of assurance
I took another puff
I took a puff, a puff, then I ripped off another puff
I decided I`d about had about enough
That breaking this habit won`t be too tough
Now I`ve give a lot of thought to this thing
If I didn`t smoke cigarettes I`d feel just like a king
Besides with the price going up every day
I knew I was just throwing all my good money away
You know I ain`t lit one in an hour or so?
Just wanted to make sure I could quit you know
I was thinking maybe I oughta write all this down
Put it in a song kinda circulate it around
Can`t ever tell it might make a hit
And that redneck Hall did a little bit
Can you imagine me a hit songwriter!
Now where`s... where`d I put that cigarette lighter?
After all it`s a habit and a habit you can break
Just a little bit of willpower son that`s all it takes
I said to myself you got to be tough!
And with that little bit of wisdom
I took another puff
I took a puff, and then a puff, then I finally ripped off another puff
And I decided boy this ain`t gonna be tough
Besides I`d just about had enough
I`m about ready to quit this rotten habit anyway
Oh I think they ought to take it offa television
It looks too good! Ow!
I like them skinny ones with the filter
Oh give it to me! Give it to me!
Cigarettes... I say if I quit smoking what`ll I do?
Maybe I`ll eat
Yeah I`ll eat cigarettes
Ahh, I love it I love it I love it I love it I love it I love it
Chester B don`t smoke, he smokes logs!
Makes you laugh funny too
Oh my throat`s scratchin`, oh
I wish I could think of something bad to say about cigarettes
Boo on cigarettes, don`t smoke don`t smoke don`t smoke
You quit smoking that`ll leave more for me!
I love it I love it, no I don`t love cigarettes ya know
Don`t misunderstand me I hate cigarettes
Makes ya cough, and when ya don`t smoke it makes ya shake
I don`t know what`s worse, the shake or the cough
I think I`ll make me a coughshake, oh!
Son did you ever smoke?
Oh I remember one time I quit smoking
I quit for three months
My wife left me
So did my children
She took my house and left
It was a mobile home hahahahahahahahacough cough cough
thanks jerry,............ i think?
So yeah...I forgot about this...How is the smoking coming along? Did you finally quit?

I just discovered this thread. I'll be praying for you, Yo.
My dad smoked for many years, and I know how hard it was on his body.
I'm addicted to sugar... it's really hard to quit because it's even served at church!
My dad quit smoking 30 years ago. When my parents divorced, my dad begged God to let him have custody of my twin and I and promised God if he got us, he'd quit smoking and drinking. He got full custody of us and never smoked or drank again!!!! Hard to believe it's been THAT long ago!!!!!!!!
Don't give up!!! Praying for you!!!!

Getting lung cancer is fear enough for me to have quit when I backslid and came back this last time. My friend Tanaka, the Godsend who has helped me get through this divorce is 36, and has lung cancer. He still smoked a carton every 4 days. Marlboro Mediums.... I am helping him to quit now- he is now only buying packs.... that's helping him alot... instead of buying cartons.
If you have insurance, the C-pill works wonders... I have 7 people family and friends who have successfully used it, and successfully quit.... one of which owns 2 nightclubs.... and is around it all the time, and the C-Pill makes him sick....
If you've been trying to quit for a long time without success stop wishful thinking and go to the doctor. They have several medications that make it easy to quit; I used Zyban. I later learned that Zyban is Welbutrin marketed for smoking cessation, so ask your doctor for generic Welbutrin because it is the exact same thing as Zyban only much cheaper. If the cost of a doctor visit and medication seems too expensive, consider how much money you'll save in the first month of being off nicotine.
CWK this was an old thread post. happy to say that this is not a problem now.
Woohoo!!!
Halleluyer!!!
That's awesome, Yo!
:thumbsup2: thanks!!
I rejoice w/ you! Praise God! Did it go when you got the Holy Ghost or did you have to work a bit to overcome it?
mostly when i received the Holy Ghost. i still have cravings though. i have also had set backs where it seems i couldnt help myself. even now when there are times of stress it tears at me.
It's like that for some people.
Me, I wanted to stop not long after I started at the age of 22 but it would be another 10 years before I kicked. Now that I'm free there is almost no way I'd have another one, but then I never really liked them to start with.

:great:
I just wanted to post a little bit of encouragement for you. I smoked for 16 long years, an average of a pack a day but sometimes as much as two packs. I loved smoking and had no desire to quit. When I decided to give my life to God, I knew that there were some things I would have to give up that were not pleasing to Him. On the day I was to be baptised, I decided there was no better time to quit smoking. If I was going to be washed clean, I wasn't going to just dirty myself back up. :-) I smoked all the way up until time to go to the church. After I was baptised, I was determined to make this change, and I did great until the next afternoon. I was so cranky, and moody and thoughts of smoking consumed my mind to the point I was ready to just give in and try the gradual approach. I finally closed my eyes and sincerely told God I desperately needed His help. I didn't ask Him to deliver me from smoking, but just to ease my cravings for a while and make this process tolerable for me. I don't lie when I say IMMEDIATELY a peace came over me and the insane cravings stopped. The next day I felt nothing, and the next and the next! About a week and a half later I wasn't even really having physical cravings, but I was missing the "act" of smoking (this had been something I did for sooo long!) So I got a cigarette from a neighbor and snuck into the corner of the backyard, and lit up. It was the foulest, most foreign thing I have ever done. It was so strange, as if I were smoking for the very first time ever. And it was awful. I knew then that God had not only delivered me from the desire to smoke, but I was CLEAN, as if I had never smoked before!
I cannot tell you why God delivered me from smoking, because I know so many others have prayed for the same thing. But I do know that my heart was 100% serious about making the change, and I realized that although I intended to give it my best effort, I could not do it alone. I think when you really make up your mind that you are going to do it... no more excuses, and realize that it is probably going to be uncomfortable and difficult, He will meet you and take you through the part you cannot do alone! :-)
Please pardon me if this has already been suggested, as I was lazy and didn't take the time to read all 4 pages lol.
I worked with a woman one summer that was trying to quit, and she found a way that worked well for her, so I thought I would share in case it helped you. She didn't have access to go buy cigarettes during the day, so every morning, she would put a certain number of cigarettes in an envelope and take that with her instead of a whole pack. I don't know how long she waited before decreasing the amount, but she gradually took the number down one by one until one day she came to work with one cigarette, and then got to the point where she still went home with that one cigarette.
If you have easy access to buy more cigarettes during the day, then this might not work, but it might be worth a shot.

It sounds as if he has finally quit.
