The headlines were huge today. Obama's first day in office and the beginning of the "remaking of America"......

Doesn't that scare anyone else? Remake it into what? The United States of Socialist Republic?

We don't need to be remade. A few things could be tweeked but remade? *SHIVERS*

Bigger than usual headline in today's Washington Post. I know he's talking ecnomics, but will it stop there?

I just hope Congress stops him if he wants to go too far.

Don't look for that to happen.  Obama is more moderate than Congressional leadership.

Last night in one of my wife's classes, she said they were talking about bills that are currently either being submitted for Congressional approval or bills that are actually getting ready to be signed into law.  Among them, she tells me, is that in addition to wanting to raise the minimum wage, now Congress wants to set a ceiling on top salaries for executives, pushing everyone further towards the middle.  Additionally, bills are being pushed through that will require employers to pay equal wages for not just equal work, but for comparable work. It's not just a woman getting paid the same as a man for doing the same job...it's a janitor getting paid the same as, say, a secretary. 

America has been in a "remaking" process for years.  Obama and the Democratic administration will only finish the job.

Here's some change by the Obama administration, as reported by the NY Times, that ought to be applauded:

On Day One, Obama Sets a New Tone

President Obama moved swiftly on Wednesday to impose new rules on government transparency and ethics, using his first full day in office to freeze the salaries of his senior aides, mandate new limits on lobbyists and demand that the government disclose more information....

"For a long time now there's been too much secrecy in this city," Mr. Obama said at a swearing-in ceremony for senior officials at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, adjacent to the White House. He added, "Transparency and rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency."...

The new president effectively reversed a post-9/11 Bush administration policy making it easier for government agencies to deny requests for records under the Freedom of Information Act, and effectively repealed a Bush executive order that allowed former presidents or their heirs to claim executive privilege in an effort to keep records secret.

"Starting today," Mr. Obama said, "every agency and department should know that this administration stands on the side not of those who seek to withhold information, but those who seek to make it known."

Advocates for openness in government, who had been pressing for the moves, said they were pleased. They said the new president had traded a presumption of secrecy for a presumption of disclosure.

"You couldn't ask for anything better," said Melanie Sloan, the executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, an advocacy group that tangled frequently with the Bush administration over records. "For the president to say this on Day 1 says: 'We mean it. Turn your records over.' "

Applauded, that is, if he follows through with it.  I won't be surprised if the day comes that there are some secrets Obama wants to keep, and he does some backtracking or hedging on this.

We'll see.

He's shown his birth certificate, and there is also corroborating evidence - i.e., a dated newspaper announcement of his birth - that would be awfully hard to fake.

In my opinion, the whole question of where he was "really" born is emphatically settled, a total non-issue, and doesn't deserve any further response from the Obama camp.  They're right to ignore repeated requests for verification.

his birth certificate has not been shown.  There is so much shadiness.  It is not a birth certificate.  Back in that day, you got a birth certificate and a certificate of live birth from a hospital in Hawaii.  His birthplace is a historic site now in Kenya.  Even if he was born in Hawaii, he was adopted by his step-dad in Indonesia, which means he would have had to been naturalized, which Still means he cannot legally be president.

Edit: There Has been a document submitted that says it's Obama's, but Hawaii, and Kenya have documents that do not coincide w/ the document and it seems to be altered.  And the ones who posted it, is Obama's party.

Well, the first one, she was acting like a kid throwing a tantrum. She got in the flight attendant's face then threw her drink on the floor.  BUT they kept her in jail for THREE months until she pled guilty? ? ?

Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd defended the prosecutions, saying that they have helped improve airline security. He added that the department has only pursued prosecution "when the facts and circumstances of a particular case warrant such action."

Throwing a drink on the floor warranted prosecution under a terrorist activity? HUH?

Indeed, the law has given airlines new flexibility to clamp down on unruly behavior. But the intent of the Patriot Act provisions was to put terrorists in violation of the law before they could execute an actual takeover, said Nathan Sales, a law professor at George Mason University who helped write the Patriot Act when he served in the Justice Department.

Not given them as much as given them an opportunity to take advantage of it. And I see they're doing just that.

Sept. 11, however, changed everything. Within two months of the attacks, Congress passed the Patriot Act, a sweeping attempt to improve the nation's defenses against international terrorism. It included broad new powers for law enforcement in such areas as electronic surveillance, money laundering and search warrants.

Included were two key provisions on airline security. The first defined disruptive behavior as a terrorist act, reflecting the seismic shift in airline security.

Totally ridiculous.

I used to think that people who predict a civil war or revolution in the future of this country were deranged morons, but if this downward economic spiral continues, and the liberals continue to run power-crazy and tax every working person who drives this country, I can see violence erupting.  I really can.

Yeah true enough, I could even see the elite potentially using the revolt/revolution to help bring forward a "new world order" so to speak, except it be put forth in such a way were people would embrace it. Call me crazy if you want.

Everybody I know around here is stocking up on ammunition, if simply because taxes on ammo are sure to skyrocket.  Have you guys heard about the bill that has been proposed in the House lately?  HR 45... you can read the full text here: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.45:Essentially it requires that anybody who wants to own a firearm be licensed, which requires them to undergo physical and mental evaluations, fingerprinting, background checks, and tests to ensure they know how to properly handle a firearm.  Never mind the fact that they're entitled to that right by the sheer fact that they're an American citizen.  I really doubt that the bill will get passed, since currently it has no co-sponsors and hasn't been scheduled to be reviewed by committee, but it's only the beginning.

Yeah dnr I have, I have a feeling it will be getting bad in the next few years. I say to people if you don't have one I would consider getting one soon if you have even thought about it. Even though its not set in stone it is very possible that there could be a financial collapse in the next 1-5 years. Who knows what is in store for the world and the US in the coming years.

Today I went by Wal-Mart and they were out of nearly all handgun ammunition.  The places I've talked to have said they can't keep any 380s in stock, and nearly all of the places that sell the Winchester Luger 9mm ammo that I use can't keep it in either.
