:beret:

it's like a thicker chili that also tastes like tacos.  Top with cheese, sour cream, fritos or tortilla chips, cilantro.

Hamburger, browned with onions & garlic
Black beans
tomatoes/can tomatoes
Can of rotel
cumin (that's taco flavor)
chili powder
paprika
oregano
salt, pepper
red pepper flakes or just a dash of cayenne
corn

It's one of my quick go to meals. Makes a lot & is filling & full of various things.  You can also add pumpkin puree to it with hardly a notice.

My grandma turned 97 today...or yesterday, as the case may be since it's after midnight.

We went over to her house for a bit this afternoon.

Well, we can "sink into" a bed of down, or "sink into" a recliner.

But I must say I don't like verse 2 of that song, myself.  Heaven meets earth like sloppy wet kiss?

I skip that verse when singing the song, myself.

I've heard some versions of that song where they change "sloppy wet" to something like "beautiful."  But it's a jarring patch job that fools nobody.  It just doesn't fit.

"Then heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss / and my heart beats violently inside of my chest..."

That was the original version I believe.  No real way to fix it smoothly, best to just leave that verse out.

Having a miserable afternoon. We received a letter from the lawyer including a motion that was filed in court. They're reopening the lawsuit against Jeremy. I'm just.. mentally, emotionally, etc.. drained. I honestly.. wish I could disappear in a cabin for a while to escape all the stress we're feeling thru this and our zillion other obligations here. Between the financial and marital etc stresses.. ughh. I hate that Jeremy feels like HE is at fault and I hate that we're even facing this. I keep telling him he was doing the right thing.. she was his WIFE.. and he co-signed on a car. She took the car, they got divorced, it got repossessed, now WE are getting sued. I've spent prayer time praying for his ex-wife.. that she be blessed.. and her family be blessed. Honestly? I wish she'd get stuck with the lawsuit instead of us.. since she's the one responsible. God removed the lawsuit once - and we still don't know "WHY" the lawyers didn't show up. I'm still praying for his ex, praying this situation be resolved God's way.. and I want to believe He will take care of us even if the judgement is made against us. Not many "normal" people can just pop out $25000+ for a car they never had and won't ever have again.

So that's my miserable afternoon. I need a vacation, but who can afford one? haha..

:beret:

You all would have never survived under the Old Covenant...it was a bloody mess back then, if you stop and think about it.

I think we tend to envision the temple and the altar and the sacrifices and all that stuff very neat and orderly and picture perfect in our heads when we read or hear about it....but if you stop and consider how things really happened and played out, it was very bloody....  There were all kinds of places that they had to put and smear and dab and sprinkle and pour blood to purify things and people....etc....

Think about all the blood flowing from the thousands upon thousands of animals sacrificed at the dedication of Solomon's temple.....  Killing one animal makes a big mess.....  Multiply that by thouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuusssssssssssands........

Anyways, I've canned green tomatoes all day.  Lord.

The original version is sloppy wet kiss. I always imagine it as like a little kid kissing their momma or poppa. You know those baby kisses are sloppy wet kisses

Work is ridiculous. Once I get my bill paid off there I will be seeking other employment.

If anyone watches the NFL....I can't believe the first game I got to see was that mess last night.....ugh!

Brandon brought up again tonight on the phone meeting me at church tomorrow night!! If you think of it keep him in your prayers.

We say beautiful and it fits.  However, the "sinking in grace"...  I recently heard my pastor preach on the power of grace and that God has so very much that we're swimming in it.  Sinking... seems to have a negative connotation but I don't have high expectations of secular Christian music.  If there is a good song, great.  If it's not a great song, should I be surprised?

I think it's the chorus that makes the song moving.  Also, sometimes I immediate consider how some of the more modern songs seem to guys.  How can a guy perceive "sloppy wet kiss" from His Father/Jesus?  Especially if they don't know a healthy affectionate father.  However,  I don't think that is shocking either.  I was just telling a friend today that I get slightly aggitated with some of the Christian radio songs.  Some of them give off a homosexual vibe.  I don't know how to explain it.  But this song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWL5NawbbiU (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWL5NawbbiU)

Ummm... I wish it would be destroyed.  It seriously creeps me out.  What father breathes that heavy like he's sexy, while singing that to his daughter?  Perhaps I would have to be a dad to understand.

I like that song.....and for me, whom 90% of my music is black....that's saying a lot lol

The lyrics are very good. It's about a father being a father, but he's still not enough...Jesus is the one the girl ultimately needs.

His breathing is prob just the way his voice is. It is a tad low for him. He sings a little higher later on, and he doesn't sound so "husky"....

MellowYellow you confused me on one point.  Could you clarify "secular christian music"?  I thought it was either secular or christian.

Or are you referring to christian music that is made and/or sung to put out an album and make a buck, as opposed to singing as a ministry?  I've heard some "christian" singers sing even Amazing Grace in a very secular sounding way.

Or are you referring to christian music that is made and/or sung to put out an album and make a buck, as opposed to singing as a ministry?  I've heard some "christian" singers sing even Amazing Grace in a very secular sounding way.

While I don't think Apostolics are the only anointed or sincere Christian artists, and I'm not sure where the exact line is, some artists bare no resemblance of Jesus other than the songs someone else wrote for them.  I call these secular Christian artists, just like I consider shallow denominations to be secular Christianity.  A culture in which there is little to no difference between them and the world but still touts Christian words/music.  It's not Christian just because it says Jesus.

My pastor made a point one day about this:  Many of our (christendom in general) worship songs are effeminate.  And without realizing it, males in general do not relate to these kind of songs.  When you try a worship song and talk about tears, some men may not respond.  When you try a worship song and it talks about "loving arms" men may not respond.  There are probably many more examples.

I. HATE. THAT. SONG.  When it first hit the airwaves, it annoyed me.  Then it went viral, and every Christian radio station was playing it dozens of times a day (or was it a hour?).  That really helped me dislike it.

I dislike glurge (Glurge is best described as the cloyingly sentimental stories, testimonials and object lessons frequently sent as email or chain letters.) songs in general.

Yeah, that.  And just because they play it on a christian radio station doesn't mean it's good.  Some songs have christian words but a very worldly spirit.

I kind of prefer Roscoe's term for sons like this,  he would call it "A Jesus please be my boyfriend song".

I read an interesting article a few years ago that later became a book entitled "Why Men Hate Church". It covered how the church in the last hundred years has gone in a very feminine direction and proved it with the kind of worships songs we sing then versus now.

One that always makes me cringe is "Hold me in your arms". Ummmmm not my type of "worship music".

Here's something weird - a lady from my mom's church called her yesterday morning and said she woke up at 4 a.m. and felt the strong need to pray for her (my mom). I woke up yesterday morning at exactly 4 a.m. too :smirk2:

Here's hoping everything's alright.

That's weird to me. Maybe it's a generational thing...My Young Adult group is singing at a Young Adult retreat our District has every Fall called Fuel...and not one, or two, but THREE of my guys that sing in my group specifically "requested" for us to sing "Wrap Me in Your Arms".

I love songs like that. The intimacy of it, draws me in, and increases my desire to grow closer to God.

Of which the Youth/Young Adult generation LOVE right now.

Ack. That one is even worse to me. That one positively screams the "Jesus is my boyfriend" thing.

Don't get me wrong - I'm glad God made emotion. I'm glad we can sense His presence. But I do think a lot of songs of late are propagating a very feminine view of Jesus. And I do think it's messing with our guy's heads. Particularly the ones that have bad relationships with their own fathers. It makes me hurt inside to watch. I've been around when some men/young men have discussed this and been pretty open and blunt about the confusion in their own heads over how they're supposed to view God. Honestly, I think we're causing damage by continuing to use songs like the ones we're talking about.

But I know my view isn't the popular one. ;)

I dunno what the answer is either. lol

But I know that if those songs didn't exist, I would be sad. They're very close to my heart.
Like I said, the intimacy of the song has spoken to my heart, and caused me to open up in intimate times with God.

I  know what you mean. There are certain songs that have really spoken to me at various points in my life that others were kind of against, or didn't like, or whatever. God does reach for us in very personal intimate ways, and I'm certainly not going bash anything that draws someone closer to him. :)

Title: Re: Roscoe's on duty, better toe the line, in Sharing 469
Post by: Melody on September 26, 2012, 04:27:34 PM
Ok, us having said ALL that...

I also believe that because of homosexuality and bad parenting for generations that many men lack understanding on healthy affection.  John layed his head on Jesus' chest.  That's pretty affectionate. He wasn't wanting Jesus to be his boyfriend.  They weren't children.  Our modern culture has made it hard to understand that and see it applied today. "Greet the brethren with a holy kiss." THAT's pretty affectionate! The apostles weren't gay, they were very masculine!  So it's not the acts themselves that are perverted but very much the spirit behind it.  The question then being, "Where is it done in the right Spirit, in a Holy masculine way?"  I think our culture has skewed some things for US that are otherwise fine and good.  We find many men running in fear or embracing it while also lacking a strong sense of masculinity.  Leaving many feeling like anything remotely intimate is effeminate.  It's just not so.

*added*  There is a book my cousin was telling me that he read about how very much the LACK of physical affection from fathers/father figures contributes to homosexuality.  Makes so much sense.  By not having it, some can't deal with any of it or long for it and it gets twisted.

There IS such a thing as balance in it that includes a brother hugging another brother.  There IS such a thing as a Godly affectionate father hugging his sons and even adult sons.  Our culture isn't conducive to kissing, however, my friend who now lives in France and goes to a home missions church there is trying his best with the whole greeting kiss thing.  He reports that it isn't perverted feeling at all.  So, while sloppy wet kisses seem so very overboard.  I don't think it's effeminate whatsoever to have a father's strong embrace, ie: being wrapped in His arms.  I don't think it's weird with the rest of the words of the 2nd song mentioned to "sit at His feet."  I think some things are very much from a child's perspective to a great big strong Father.  Whereas some, not having that as kids, definately cannot relate, and only see it in adult form and have trouble with it.

There is balance.  AND I think there is the variable of a Godly Apostolic person singing it under the anointing vs. some worldly person.

you guys were posting while I was still working on mine... LOL

I don't think banning ALL intimate/affectionate songs is the answer.  I think learning what IS the right way and pursuing that in a "testify of the truth" type way will set all that in order.  Running the other direction is just as unhealthy as being goo goo gah gah over it.

I would think by now that OUR generation has seen the unprofitableness of just side swiping an entire thing because some elements have not been fully straightened out yet.

Agreed. :)

Maybe I'm a bit hyper-sensitive because of particular situations we've dealt with? Dunno.

But you're absolutely right, Melodya. This world has totally twisted normal affections.

Remember when it was perfectly normal for little girls (okay, even big ones) to walk along the street holding hands? Just because they were feeling sisterly and affectionate? Yeah, I remember that. From pictures of my Nana and her friends... and also of my mom. AND from when I was really little. And I also remember when it started to change. And I'd be walking along the street holding my cousin's hand and swinging our arms, and skipping, or whatever, and our parents started telling us we "shouldn't do that, because it looked bad." And it took me SUCH a long time (years) to figure out why that was supposed to be dirty or disgusting. Because it wasn't.

Maybe that's the sort of the same issue?

:beret:
Title: Re: Roscoe's on duty, better toe the line, in Sharing 469
Post by: Melody on September 26, 2012, 04:44:25 PM
YES.  I think the very same.

My step sisters' mom is a lesbian.  My mom had intimacy issues and wasn't affectionate at all.  I grew up hypersensitive about any female affection.  It did not make me long for feminine affection conscienciously, it made me run the complete other way from it and wrongly perceive other's intentions. *later I realized one of my love languages IS touch. The only woman I grew up having hugged was my grandma a few times.  I literally could not comprehend all these Apostolic women hugging eachother and thought they perhaps had secret homosexual issues or were incredibly shallow so that it had no real meaning.

Seriously.  And I was so wrong.  I'm so glad Jesus heals.  But we have to consider such questions honestly.  We have to be open to the actual truth of God more than words of people. Our elders are amazing people, but they are still human and did not have it all figured out yet either.  I'd like to continue the great things they established and keep it growing.

Also, I know of 2 men in our church whom God has delivered from homosexuality completely.  It is a powerful testimony.  And you know what?  They aren't effeminate and neither is touchy feely whatsoever. I've seen them receive or give a hug or two though and there was no weird vibe.  God heals completely.

I don't know anything about the book mentioned, but in general I would say that some of the blame for "men hating church" could be drawn back to the issue of men shirking their duty to spiritually lead.  A lot of the weight of the modern day church has been carried by women, with women making up a larger percentage of congregations, women having to be spiritual leaders in homes that men fail to be in......

Another thing could be that the spirit of Jezebel has been allowed to take over in some instances.

Brandon came to church. He's still wary of speaking in tongues and if he believes any of its real but he did say he will come until he figures it out. One of our outreach ministers gave me a bible study to look over and give to him. I know it may not seem like much but just the fact he stepped foot into the building and stayed through the entire service (plus talking for 2.5 hours in the parking lot after) is a GIANT step in his spiritual life. Just keep lifting Brandon Henson up in prayer if you think about it.

I just reread that and I'd like to state he has no issues whatsoever with my beliefs and me going to church. If nothin else he encourages me more than most people in my life ever has. But he has a lot of anger toward God and churches stemming from his sisters passing and the way the church they attended treated the family after. That's 9 years of anger, resentment, and mourning his loss.

Also on another note he was talking to Bro Ketron about cars (they had met at Autozone before) and my car came up somehow. So now Bro Ketron is gonna try to find the part I need for my car  God is so good!!

Jason - are you thinking of Wrap Me in Your Arms? If so, it's not just guys that cringe on that one. I do too. :smirk2: And yes, the Why Men Hate Church book is excellent. There's another great one along the same lines, but I'm blank on the title at the moment.

:beret:

I don't know anything about the book mentioned, but in general I would say that some of the blame for "men hating church" could be drawn back to the issue of men shirking their duty to spiritually lead.  A lot of the weight of the modern day church has been carried by women, with women making up a larger percentage of congregations, women having to be spiritual leaders in homes that men fail to be in......

Another thing could be that the spirit of Jezebel has been allowed to take over in some instances.

I wish I could give you a standing ovation for this post.  :great:

Too bad there aren't frequent driver mile deals.

That sounds awesome AJ.  There should a thread or blog about everyone's adventures w/ Chelbertina!  Like Flat Stanley but with hugs.

Tuesday we celebrated our CHELoliday by cooking down pumpkins, visiting big city libraries & making pumpkin foods.  Chel is just one of those Tasmanian angels you're blessed to get to see in real life & are kind if left in awe when she wisks away to her next destination.  I absolutely adore the friends I can talk about the good things of God with or just fun nothings!

I was talking with my sister yesterday morning about needing to buy a chain saw, and she told me to borrow theirs instead. Apparently the Lord heard me and decided to help- one of the limbs I'd planned on trimming was laying on the front lawn when I got home yesterday. Wish He'd been a little cleaner with His cut though.. :smirk2:

It's Kimbers Birfday today!

And I just gotta say that last night I was in the smack middle of a very bad moment, and my phone rang...it was Kimber, just calling cause she felt to. I'm glad that God used her in that moment to help me thru it. I cried on her shoulder, and then we talked for two hours and laughed ourselves silly.

It was just what I needed! Thanks, Friend!

I fell today. I was walking into our storage unit with a box of some of my things, and I tripped up the step, and fell into a stack of boxes that were already stacked there, and a glass giraffe picture frame that was in my box shattered and cut my hand. Ugh. Now my body is sore. Then I went back out to the house with Granny, and we cleaned some more again. It's beginning to get to me though. We have been out there and out there and out there, and worked real hard each time, but I feel like I've gotten nowhere at all. It's all too much stuff to handle. I feel overwhelmed right now.

But we are plugging along. Day by day. That's all we can do I guess. :)

Anyway. I came home, took a hot shower and took a nap. I feel better but my feet HURT! My brother will be here tomorrow and saturday, but my oldest brother just called and said he isn't coming to help. :smirk2: I won't get started on that. I'll be thankful for the one brother that is willing to come.

It started hurting Saturday morning after a ten hour truck day at work Friday. Saturday I spent an hour crawling around cleaning drains and for the most part kind of hunched over working most of the day. Sunday I was standing for most of the day and it got really stiff. Monday I was off and tried to get it to relax to no avail and Tuesday started off unloading a truck at 5 am. So I think it is just a combination of the last week with a huge helping of stress thrown on top of it.

I hate my birthdays!
I have been fighting with my family since I got up, got left at Walmart for over an hour, my phone got cut off, I didn't get to go to church. I sat home all day and cried my eyes out. Then my best friend was going to come see me but didn't because my family hates him. So now I'm crying again because there was not one ounce of happy in this day. I have cried all day. I give up I'm taking something and going to bed.

I was fortunate to be able to take the day off to spend with Chel.  Started off with a WONDERFUL breakfast of pigs in a blanket, hash browns and pumpkin muffins.  Then, we decided to head down to Cantril so Chel could have her first experience at the Dutchman Store.  She was also able to see her first Amish horses and buggies today.  I'm glad I was able to share that experience with her.  We came home and had left over chicken enchiladas for lunch before she had to depart for her next destination.

I must also say that the pumpkin bread that Melodya made was amazing!

The only thing that really bugged Brandon about church was the music. In churches growing up they were southern gospel through and through where his family went. We do more praise & worship with a couple black gospel thrown in. He's talking about coming every wednesday that he can and even his dad is now talking about watching the service online

I'm so EXCITED about what God is doing!

The music.  You know, I have felt that way visiting churches that have all old or southern gospel music.  Yes, it's up here.  In the moment, either the church is letting God move, or they're not... the music becomes irrelevant. (although I've never been to a heavy metal or rapping service so not sure how far that statement carries) I've heard horrible solos, practically saloon old fashioned style hymnals, and rock-ish type music.  It isn't the style that's ever anointed.  I had a really hard time with the "white?" version of hymnals when I first started coming to church.  I practically thought it was dry and disrespectful.  So, if he's coming back, he'll get over the genre of music.  All it takes is God moving on him during one of the songs.. lol

Heather you're stronger than that, I know it.  Being sarcastic is easy to do (and so much fun sometimes...) and anyone can do that.  That's why it's called the low road.

In other news, I've had a good day.  Got my auto's oil changed and everything else checked.  Then on the way back through the neighboring town where my mechanic's shop is, I saw a thrift store I had never noticed before.  BANZAI!  I went in, found the music and wiped out all their christian CDs, 40 of them.  So today at work I've had a maaaaaaahvelous time sorting through them while I worked.

Gotta love family drama.. I'm abiding by my Facebook post tho. I won't talk about them. :)  I'm just going to pray for them. I'm most worried about Jeremy. This whole situation with them PLUS all the stress of our financial stuff, our house, etc., is just beginning to overwhelm him. He said last night that he feels like he's backsliding. I know what kind of heart he has.. and it's a big, soft one. He JUST got back into church last year and I hate to see something else hinder him. He blames God a little bit for everything that's happening, and.. of course.. with the family - who can you trust then? I'm praying that I can be an encouragement to him as well. I'm trying very hard to bite my tongue and keep a Godly attitude - for my soul AND his. Praying God can help us.. and get us through these things - never know what's in store! Looks like we might've should've moved to Arkansas instead of staying here in Illinois. We'll see.

In brighter news, my best friend (girl) is coming up tonight. She's staying until tomorrow late. I'm excited. I definitely NEED some "person I know instead of just someone he knows all the time" time, haha..

What is wrong with me today?!

Standing there, just standing, talking to Mom and Dad before I went to take a shower, and I had terrible back spasms. So bad I was nearly crying. Had to sit down for ten or so minutes in pain till they subsided enough for me to take a shower. Still hurting now. All I did was stand and have a conversation.

UGH.

I'm so tired of all these random pains.

Thought I'd post this here too in case someone enjoys it also as I did this morning.

"The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men." — Psalm 33:13

Perhaps no figure of speech represents God in a more gracious light than when He is spoken of as stooping from His throne, and coming down from heaven to attend to the wants and to behold the woes of mankind. We love Him, who, when Sodom and Gomorrah were full of iniquity, would not destroy those cities until He had made a personal visitation of them. We cannot help pouring out our heart in affection for our Lord who inclines His ear from the highest glory, and puts it to the lip of the dying sinner, whose failing heart longs after reconciliation.

How can we but love Him when we know that He numbers the very hairs of our heads, marks our path, and orders our ways? Specially is this great truth brought near to our heart, when we recollect how attentive He is, not merely to the temporal interests of His creatures, but to their spiritual concerns. Though leagues of distance lie between the finite creature and the infinite Creator, yet there are links uniting both.

When a tear is wept by thee, think not that God doth not behold; for, "Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear Him." Thy sigh is able to move the heart of Jehovah; thy whisper can incline His ear unto thee; thy prayer can stay His hand; thy faith can move His arm. Think not that God sits on high taking no account of thee. Remember that however poor and needy thou art, yet the Lord thinketh upon thee. For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect towards Him.

Oh! then repeat the truth that never tires;
No God is like the God my soul desires;
He at whose voice heaven trembles, even He,
Great as He is, knows how to stoop to me.

-Charles Spurgeon

Leaves hugs and prayers for all my GP friends wanting them this morning.  God is faithful.

Isaac - Sarcasm comes naturally for me. Seriously. If you are not sarcastic in my family by the age of 6 you're left on an island by yourself in the middle of the Atlantic. So it's not that I'm 'better than that', I'm falling back on survival instincts. If you actually knew me, you'd know I'm that way.

I've had a sinus headache now for about 2 weeks. And apparently it's taken it's toll on my appearance. I got sent home from work today because I look like a raccoon. You can always tell how bad my headache is by how black my eyes look. I look like I've been in a fight.

I didn't say you're better than that, I said you're stronger than that.  I know what it's like to grow up around sarcasm, and it really is the easiest way.  I still have trouble with it in myself.

Haha! Glad I could help!

I'm feeling better. Decided not to go to the house today. So I went and got the stuff to prep for the potluck dinner for Sunday. I'm doing a chicken in the crock pot, and tater salad. I also got a thaw and serve peanut butter cream pie. Since we don't have an oven, I have to improvise.

Dad went to dialysis again today, even though normally its his day off, cause he wanted tomorrow free for when Chad is here to help with the house.

Well, it's a new day and I dare people to try and make up for yesterday, I just want my life to go back to normal. All I wanted was for the people closest to me to make me feel loved.. That never happens because my family and friends don't know how to express love! I mean they didn't even have to come see me you can express it through a text message!... Mel thanks... You were the only one to really make me smile, and I was actually shocked at how many of the people from here left me comments on facebook.. You guys are great!

I suggest shooting them.  Or if you'd like to be more low-key about it, poison them.

Oh, and considering my tactic of at-that-price-why-not-get-them-all, wiping out all the christian music they have, I came up with a surprising number of keepers.  The sorting I was doing whilst at work was listening to them and sorting out which to keep and which to save for trade-in next time I go to McKay's.  I wound up with 29 I wanted to keep.  At a dollar a piece, that's $40 for 29 good albums, plus 11 to trade in.

What?  Yeah, I could copy the music from the 29 and then trade them in as well.  I'm just too stupid ethical for my own good.   :-\

Though I don't think I have failed in conveying how much I hate both the cold and having yard sales, my wonderful husband is both having one today AND had to leave on an errand, having me sit out here in 55° weather to man it.

So.  Yes sir, you may have this lawn mower that my husband just replaced the blade on for $5.

I'm torn between going to work on Brandon's house [which was the original plan] or staying here and helping dad with the underpinning [which he just decided to do this morning and recruit me]. Frankly I know dad will drive me bonkers BUT mom is also making chili and brownies for later. Decisions Decisions.

Yep, trust Isaac to know exactly how to have your cake and eat it too... :laughhard:

And in other sharing, I am feeling quite satisfied/smug/proud.
At precisely the wrong time- a time when finances are, shall we say, less than rosy, our new dryer we got last year that I've given praise for decided to start making a horrible thumping noise. In addition, when I looked, I could see a small dent and cut in the side of the cabinet from something inside trying to get out.  :o  Visions of repairmen and their bills flashed through my head, followed by the image of a decidedly unhappy Lou and a clothesline..

Today, I, the Master Mechanic, decided that the odds were good that I couldn't tear it up much worse than it already was. I tied into it with my trusty toolkit. After a little examining, I found a bolt that had backed out of the side of the tub that was striking the inside of the cabinet. A few minutes work, offending item secured, and, voila, a quiet dryer.  :thumbsup2: Thank God for helping me avoid a bill I couldn't afford.

I. Am. Spent.

We cleaned out the house today. Every. Single. Room.

We had more help than we thought we would. Granny made a few calls and recruited us three hard working guys and then later two of the guys wives showed up to help. Also we had me and chad and dad, plus two homeless guys from the Salvation Army that we found to help.

We have the closets and clothes to go thru now.

I went through my room and just chunked a bunch of stuf that I didn't think I would ever part with. It was an emotional and tiring day.

Dad just got out of the shower, and that's where I'm headed now. It's been a crazy LONG day.

So, Mel- y'all just salvaging, or are you going to remodel the house and move back in? Somehow, I feel I've lost track of you guys' plans here lately, I haven't been on here or texting as much as normal. Been busy.. :smirk2:
Title: Re: Roscoe's on duty, better toe the line, in Sharing 469
Post by: MelodyB on September 30, 2012, 01:00:23 AM
We are NOT moving back in. It's too far gone. Even if FEMA paid us the top amount, we couldn't repair the house and replace the things that were lost too. It's too much.

We salvaged what we could. The rest is in ashes in the yard. We had a HUGE FIRE. All the mattresses, beds, dressers, bedclothes, lots of things. It was an amazing fire, and I personally started it. But I didn't get much enjoyment out of it at all. It was kinda surreal.

*sigh*

I ate a piece of bread with some peanut butter on it. And a half glass of milk. Now I'm going to bed. Please say a prayer that I can sleep and feel better in the morning. Right now I ache all over and my heart is broken in a zillion pieces. One thing good from today though, I think my brother respects me. He understands why earlier this week I frantically called him and told him I HAD to have help. He sees now. So that was one good thing. There are other little things that were good today too, but that was the best I think. I'm just glad it's mostly done.

And now I'm going to bed at 8pm. ;)

Goodnight!

I slept pretty good last night. It was a long night though...every time I woke up I still had several hours to go before time to get up. I love it when that happens! If I can sleep! If I'm restless, it's not so good though.

Got the coffee pot ready for my brother. Door unlocked so he can come in, and I'm headed to the shower. Then gotta go out to the fellowship hall and turn my chicken on. Then go pick up someone for church. And today, we celebrate Kimbers Birfday! Yay!

So it was YOU that got the good night's sleep!  I was wondering where mine went.   :nono:

Kidding.  Although I didn't get much sleep, but that's normal for me on a Sunday.  If I had a 1st shift job I'd be a morning person, but Sundays are hard when my job is 2nd shift.  But I get a nap Sunday afternoon, which puts me in a good position to stay up late Sunday night, which keeps my sleep schedule right on track.

And in the meantime there's always chocolate, the single most enjoyable way I've ever found of ingesting caffeine.   :great:

Yeah, don't you just hate it when you miss a good service, and people seem to go out of their way to tell you what a great service you missed?  I get it a lot when I'm teaching Children's Church Sunday nights.  "Yes, thank you, I'm so glad to know exactly how WONDERFUL it was..."

About the boring part, I'm afraid logic is going to hurt in this particular case.  See, you are also part of this forum.  And if this group of wingnuts on the forum is boring, and you're part of this group, then you...  Well...

In other news, it's a happy feeling to make other people happy.  :)

In other, other news, I seem to be going through my stock of bread rather rapidly of late.  Seems like every other meal is a sandwich, or food I put on toast, or something I dip bread in.  Gonna have to either change my menu or make some more bread this coming Saturday.  I think I'll just make more bread, it's easier than changing what I eat.  And probably more healthy as well.

We had a fifth Sunday potluck as well.  Made mini pecan pie "tarts".  Everyone seemed to love them.  They went rather quickly (considering we were 45 minutes late thanks to Aaron.  The last few went home with the pastor.

Not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.  Am looking forward to the fact that it's only a 4 day week though.

Mel: More than once, I've downsized, and also helped deal with my mother's things after she passed away.  I haven't been where you are, but I do know how it feels to part with things that you feel like are a part of you - things that complete your life.  I must say, however, that sometimes downsizing can make you feel clean and a bit new on the inside.  I pray that you will begin to feel the lightness of less, instead of the frustration of loss.  It isn't easy, and sometimes it isn't quick, but I pray that it comes soon for you.

Morning all.

I told a friend the other day that it seems life is changing.  I am use to downshifting in life.  Get done with something, and then a few days of rest before the next event.  Now it seems like every time I get a chance to shift gears, God has me up-shifting and speeding up.  If anything, its making me better aware of my time and how its spent.

Morning. I am back at work. May have to work third shift sometime soon for a bit. One of our officers' wife is having complications from hip surgery, and he's having to take off, throwing that shift short.

Fighting (and losing) a sore throat today.

Man, those sound good..... both the pecan pie tarts and the four day week. Sadly, I get neither.
Bah. It's not 7 am yet, I am without Dr Pepper and forced to substitute cappuchino....God have pity on my coworkers. Their ankles are in danger. :smirk2:

I need A LOT of prayer. I have to do something today that will change my life and someone else's. I can't live like this anymore though. I've prayed and others have too and I feel I've received an answer. It's not necessarily the easiest, but I have to do what God wants me to do.

I'll most likely be depressed for a long time.

I'm totally amused here.  The kids are starting their Christmas program practice and the one they're using has a DVD for them to practice.  It's set in Jesus' day, in Bethlehem, dressed in the imagined attire. One of the parts is a Sherlock Holmes kid that has a Brittish accent.  The rest of the kids all have THICK southern accents... LOL  We can hardly understand what their saying.  It sounds like they're talking with their mouths full.  We are totally giggling because it's so fun.  Hannah is supposed to play a librarian.  The first major part she's ever had, she's pretty excited.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk like these kids do.  It's way beyond what I've heard any GPers sound like.  Even harder to understand than our new friend that just moved up here to marry one of our church gals, that's from MS.  His accent is so funny, some of us just smile and nod cause we couldn't catch everything he said.  He said recently that he noticed that we pronounce our words completely.  ha!  I love accents! They're so fun.  (http://gfxlovers.com/smilies/imgs/girly/girly025.gif)

Having a cup of coffee and then I'm off for a busy day.

Sorry I had nothing good to say yesterday, Roscoe.  I had the weirdest headache, it made me want to puke.  I had to go to bed early.  So weird.  I think I had a headache like a month ago too.  I'm going to pay attention to what's surrounding these headaches cause headaches are not normal, they are symptoms of something else.  Hmmmm.....

If any from GP is going to be at general conference this week, please go say hello to my mom and dad and siblings. :)

Contemplating kicking my boys outside for a while this morning. They're turning into royal couch potatoes again. I won't be popular if I do, but... well, I suppose that means I've done my job as a mom for today??

Not this year with getting ready to move and all.  I'm totally available for anyone coming through KC.  We have a conference here in a few weeks as well that I have to be prepared for.  BUT  I'm very excited about it being in St.Louis for the next few years.  I know that on Saturday the city has approved for there to be a giant prayer mtg. under the arch.  I eager to hear how the conference goes and the testimonies.  I guess it streams each night online too.

Now we are at the heart Dr. Then I'm not sure what all Dad has in mind to do. We need to figure out something good for dinner, seeing how today we are free to cook, and I need to utilize this day.

Washed clothes already. Need some ice for the cooler too.

ANYway...  I googled "crown royal bag" just for fun.  Did she have one of the velvet drawstring bags?  If that's what it was, maybe she got it at a yard sale.  If I had seen it first, I might have bought it, cuz I wouldn't have had a clue what it was advertising.

I just heard on the news that pork is getting ready to sky rocket because the grain prices went up from a bad harvest.  We'll see.  I made pork BBQ ribs yesterday.

I haven't had pork chops forever! Used to be my favorite food as a kid.  Of course, Iowa was/is the leading pork producer or that it's Iowa's biggest revenue, can't remember.  We grow corn, but pork is bigger business. And THAT is why Iowa is so liberal with all those farms.  They are almost all owned by giant corporations that practically run the state.  There are not as many downhome midwesterners there as you'd think.

It's slightly after midnight and I just ate a slice of waffle-bread.  See, today Grandma decided she wanted waffles.  So she pulled out her old waffle iron she hadn't used in more than ten years, mixed up some batter and tried to make one.  Half the waffle stuck to the top, half stuck to the bottom.  She gave up on waffles and started to make the rest of the batter into pancakes, but instead I talked her into cooking all the batter in one pan like cornbread.  It turned out surprisingly well.

So yeah, I just ate a slice of waffle-bread.  Sliced in half, with some real, grade A, dark amber maple syrup soaking each half through and through.  Yum!

Oh Dear Jesus. Thank God for His protection. Taking Andrew to school this morning, I'm going straight along Chipman when a woman from a side street pulls straight out in front of me. Literally, I seen her sitting there and she decides to pull out to turn my opposite direction too late. It was too close for me to stop so I had to swerve or T-bone her. The only place to turn was the gap in the median for turning which put me into oncoming traffic. By the grace of they were far enough out to stop. So I turned around to find the lady is just continuing on! I pull up behind her and she pulls over to motion if we are alright and I motion that we are and so she just continues on to drop her kid off at the highschool. Today, someone could've died. No exaggeration. KJ5P7H license number needs Jesus cause if I didn't have Him, it might have been her.

It's almost 11pm and I'm eating Toast with a generous helping of apple butter on it. Makes me think of two of my GP friends.

:hugs:

me me! i want toast...with apple butter... :sadbounce:

Chel was actually the thought behind the apple butter, but you can have some too...it's a big jar, enough for everyone! :fork:

I'm fixing to take dad to dialysis, and when I get back, I may eat some more toast with it. ;)

I just had toast with cinnamon sugar!

hahaha, No, Roscoe usually posts something in the mornings so I made a preemptive post for when he does!

Where is the jockey this morning?  Here he was saying how we are all boring and I'm here posting about near death experience and he's nowhere to be seen.  He's not hiding behind you is he, Mini?

Got up for work this morning and went ahead and brought a change of clothes just in case I had to stay after to do kennels. Sure enough 1st thing in the door 'Heather can you do kennels tonight?' Sure you can pay me more overtime. I came prepared today. But unfortunately we are super slow because it's raining. Good thing is dad will be back but I'll be so tired I'll go in my room and crash out to turn around and be back at 7 am. I told them I will NOT do wednesdays. Brandon is going to church with me and I'm not giving him a week off to rethink his decision.

And now Brandon is not going with me Wednesday  :-( His mom is in a tizzy because his dad has cut her off essentially so she's taking it out on Brandon. So now he's getting out of class and going to hold her hand and tell her it's ok. It's such a mess. I'm disappointed but he promised to come next wednesday. She's mad at me because I won't come down there but frankly I can't stand the woman, I have just enough gas in my car to get me to the weekend, AND it's church night. I'd rather sat in a service with my ex-husband preaching than be at her house with her blowing cigarette smoke in my face.

I think we should all be institutionalized.  :smirk2:

I have a job helping this contractor guy that the neighbors by my sister have redoing their house (it was originally my cousin's house).  I'm eating lunch, then going back to do a little more stuff...finish bagging up the last section of insulation from the attic, cause they're putting up a new ceiling in the bedroom - it was two bedrooms, they're making it one room.  I don't like crawling around up there digging in insulation....but I have $100 already....  :freaky2:  And we tore part of the ceiling down already, so maybe it won't be so claustrophobicy feeling.....now it'll be a fear of heights looking all the way down to the floor.  :P

I had range today. As a result, I spent all morning rushing around gathering things up to go and didn't get to check in and post. As far as bragging- today I feel I have the right to.  :hypocrite: Everything went incredibly smoothly at the range, and I shot a personal best score. A 477 out of a possible 500, which works out to about 95%. I was very happy. My target- not so much. There was a huge hole in the center of it.  :P

Well I figured out why my sinuses have been acting up so much yesterday.  Seems I caught a bug a bus kid was incubating - the reason he was riding the bus was because his brother was sick.  It was called strep throat by the parents, but here it's manifesting as a mild cold, at least so far.  No complaints for change of severity, for sure.

Thank you Lord for a good night's sleep despite the odds, and (sniff) the odds did (cough) seem stacked against (sniff) any sleep at all.  I think I'll be in shape to go to work.

I might as well pack up my stuff and live in my car. I'm now not allowed to eat or drink anything unless I've bought it. I like the fact that ruling came down when my parents knew good and well I literally have $8.22 in the bank until Monday. Thanks for the eating disorder guys. You'll be the first ones to yell at me when I lose weight too....I'm just so over it all.....I have to get out of this house....

There's always a new rule when I get home from church. Frankly my parents HATE to see me in church. My alcoholic promiscuous partying sister is the apple of their eye because she goes to college. Whereas I'm the one here and the 1st one they call when anything goes wrong. I just can't deal with it anymore. Something has to give.

This guy replied to one of my bird sales ads, wanting to trade call ducks for pigeons and chickens....  He has asked me the same basic thing a few other times.

I replied that I just wanted to sell, I wasn't looking to trade for anything right now.

So he replies back, "u can trade and then sell the call ducks they will sale for more"

Well, you big dummy, then why don't YOU sell your expensive ducks for more money, and then come and buy what you want from me and enjoy your leftover change?

I don't know.  But I'm tired of false religions.  I'm tired of anytime they're exposed, they try & act like pentecostals are intolerant.

I just realized something.  I don't have to patty cake people that are really sincere & hungry for God.  Let them go at their own pace, yes but, big difference between that & those who just really don't want it right now.  Those are the ones with bitter spirits.   Those I don't need to argue with.  Sometimes I'm just so sure that they really want to see the truth, that they engage to see what stands.  But some are just bitter & not even listening.

There was a discussion about COC's doctrine of not using instruments because there is no reference of it being used in the NT church.  So the lack of scripture is their basis for a whole doctrine.  Good grief.

So sad.

This came about because (with moms permission) I've packed my lunch the past couple days. Dad gets home and realizes his extra bag of Doritos are open. To top it off I get home from church and ask mom is I can have a couple of her cookies. So 1 bowl of cereal, a sandwich, a small baggy of Doritos and 3 cookies a day are (direct quote) 'eating them out of house and home'. And I don't mean to sound mean but I'm the smallest person here by easily 130 lbs.

Day 1 of living off stale crackers and water begins now.

ladyshep, about the blessing/smite meter:
On most forums it is a way for visitors to tell at a glance whether they can trust what someone is saying.  Members of the forum vote blessing/smite on a post, and it accrues to the member's total.

On this forum... well, let's just say some people get smite happy.  Like Seth and Jen.

Look under his name/avatar. You'll see "bless" and "smite". Click on "smite". Seth will then be smitten. You can smite him once an hour. You must immediatly go "bless" Roscoe after every Seth smiting.  :hypocrite:

Mel-YAY!!!!!!

My mom and I get along soooo much better when dads out in his truck. I marched right into the house and got a bowl of cereal and mom asked me if I needed gas money  :o I don't know what's worse dad off his meds or the fact mom may be starting menopause. Regardless my time in this house is drawing nigh....

Dad is on his way to St Louis. I commented that maybe he'll run into some nice folks going to General Conference and hopefully he'll find Jesus! Mom didn't seem to appreciate it....

In local news, we got some bad news at the factory today.  Sales are way down for the companies to which we sell parts.  We will be working tomorrow (well, now it's today) but from here on out no more Fridays.  And we will be taking off a full week at Thanksgiving.  And two whole weeks at Christmas.

So if anyone from... just to pick a state at random, Arkansas perhaps... wanted to swing by for a visit, Friday/Saturday would be prime.

Awake and feeling lousy. I didn't go to bed till after 1am, cause I was just wide awake. But my nose was all stuffed and I was liturally crying. Well, my eyes were pouring tears, but I wasn't like emotionally crying. It was weird. Then I slept fitfully, and now I'm wide awake again, but feel bad. Tummy trouble this time, but nose is still clogged and eyes are still damp.

Oh, and my cough is worse today/tonight.

I'm gonna try to sleep a bit more. We will see.

I'm up and moving. Got a TON of things to do today. Drop Chey off at school, go to the library, deliver some paperwork to Russellville, price the gutters that the last storm brought down, mow the yard, tinker with the 'vette, go by the repair shop and check on the weedeater, make dinner- shew. I'm wore out looking at it.  :laughhard:

Thank God for Crockpots- bbq ribs are on now- and I'm wearing overalls and driving Rusty, so in the words of an old friend, " It's gonna be a good day, Tator."

Y'all have a tee-rrific day, ya hear?

The coals did not keep through the night.  It was a brisk 40° out this morning.  But it's supposed to get to 54° at some point today so I suppose I can endure.  I ran the space heater all night.

I need to bring my aloe and basil plants inside or the frost is going to wipe them out.

One week till moving day!  2wks till Mantle Conference here.  I can't wait to hear how GC is going.

I desperately want a cup of coffee but have no cream and that just won't do. I'll bake stuff today for an excuse to run the oven.

Found two kitties on our porch this morning. Took everything I had to NOT make Jeremy let me keep them. They followed him when he tried to leave for work, so he picked them up and took them to a rich neighborhood. Hopefully someone keeps them. They're super cute and tame! He said they broke his heart when they looked up at him and tried to follow him, so he prayed for them, too. Sounds like me! haha..

Finally Friday! Yard sale tomorrow, so that's what I'll be doing tonight when I get off work. Can't come soon enough!! lol..

Lord. Look at all the frou-frou hot-tea-and-milk drinkers. Y'all are too "uptown" for this poor old country boy. Tea should ALWAYS be served ice cold and heavily sweetened with real sugar. Anything other is a travesty of culinary common sense, and  as such, should be banned..  :hypocrite: :hypocrite:

Well. I am back home, which is smelling like bbq'd countrystyle ribs.  :fork:
I am a little torqued off- I drove twenty miles one way to fax something and it took two tries. then they call me when I get home- " We had to split that fax into two sections because there were so many pages. the last section went fine. The first didn't."
Now I've got to wait until Sunday to fax it.  :pound: Lord. I should've just saved the gas. But at least I got to drive Rusty.

In local news, I pulled a real shazam yesterday.  I was still getting over the cold I caught from a church bus kid, my sinuses were still a bit active.  So what did I have for supper?  Pizza!  Yessir, nothing like a couple slices of good ole pizza to really get the sinuses active.  Not to mention I have a mild dairy allergy that manifests as sinus trouble.  Brilliant!

I didn't get as much sleep last night as I wanted, but I got way more than I deserved.  But it sure was good pizza...

On the upside, I currently have an awesome bass singing voice.  Anything above middle baritone is shot of course, but from there down it sounds great, speaking and singing.  Of course it'll wear off long before Sunday, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

"I never shaaaaall forget the daaaaaay when all the burdens of my soul were rolled awaaaaaay"  :sing:

I am able to make GF crust.  It's just not that great at ALL.  I can buy GF crust pizza from a few pizza places around here.  Cheapest is $13 for a little personal size one.  I can buy GF pizza crusts in the health food section at a few grocery stores.  They run about $7 each. So, unless I want to go through the trouble, which sometimes it's just a pain, or pay far too much money for so little food, I can't have it.  When Nathan can just go pick up a pizza for them, and I have to make a crust, bake it, put on toppings, bake again, just for me.  Well, I might as well just eat a stinkin' apple.   :smirk2:

A computer from '08 running XP Media Center?  Neat.  Be grateful it's not Vista.

I'll tell you what you need, but first I'll tell you that you'll hate it.  Standard TV monitors are a much lower resolution than all but the oldest computer screens, so everything will look blurry if resized from your computer output to TV screen.  Of course if you have an HDTV that's a different story.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4779573&CatId=1430

Outputs as standard RCA or S-Video.  Most TVs will take one or both.

My eyes took an itching spell for a little bit last night like crazy....  This morning they were all scummy.  And like puffy underneath a bit.  I couldn't hardly keep from clawing them out last night.  It didn't last long, but long enough....

Some kind of allergen apparently, I guess.  It happens every once in a rare while.

Oh and for fun fodder, Costco has "Hemp Hulled Seeds" in bulk.  It says it's a complete protein just like quinoa and easy to add to a bunch of stuff.  They're gluten free.

So I bought some.  (http://gfxlovers.com/smilies/imgs/girly/girly004.gif)

They taste like raw nuts pretty much.  Yummy.

Oh lawd. So many things I could pick on with HippyChick's last post.... :laughhard: Buying hemp seeds, being a nut.....:hippy:

But I will be nice. I'm up and intended to stay at the house all day. I've changed my mind. The neighbors two kids, age 5 and 7, just showed up about an hour ago screaming and playing. I was not happy. They have just moved in, and apparently the parents don't mind if they run off to the neighbors uninvited. I am a bit of a crab, and value my weekends- they ain't gonna start this. I am not going to share my Daddy and Chey day with neighbor kids all the time. They were here until 7 last night, for God's sake.

So, I told them we were going somewhere. Now, it is 45 degrees and raining, and to keep from lying I am being ran out of my own house. Not happy.

Well.....I've learned a couple things about stuffed pork chops...1) It's a pain to cut the pockets into them for the stuffing without killing yourself, or at the very least, stabbing yourself 2) My favorite knife ain't near as sharp as I thoughtit was when used for cutting pork (the meat), but has no problem cutting the pig (the off duty cop) and 3) the receipe I found seemed simple just needing apples, bread crumbs, apple juice, raisons, cheese, and assorted spices, all of which I have. Using their measurements for chops, I wound up with enough stuffing for double the meat I have.  :smirk2:
We shall see if they are edible or not.

Isaac...I have a 2008 HP laptop. Running windows XP media version.

My question for you is, in order to project the video and such onto a normal TV monitor, what kind of cable would I need?

I would look it up myself, but don't have a clue what to look for or how to word it.

Can you tell me?

I got another opinion from another geek, otherwise known as Rubys Brother David, and then I raided the youth room closet and found a VGA to VGA cord. It works beautifully! Clear non distorted screen! Now if only I knew how to transfer the sound to the tv. My speakers are not quite loud enough...

I hear that it's a pretty big deal and that the coast is super packed due to people coming from all over the world to show off their vehicles. Anyways...hope you enjoy yourself! :-)

It was so much cooler today than yesterday.  Probably nearly 30 degrees cooler.  I think it was 80 something yesterday and 50 something today.

:eek!:

*faints, and nearly dies*

What, pray tell, brought THAT on? Have you been converted since Chelbertina visited you?

:beret:

No...

Poopsie said I should be nice to you.  I said that I AM nice to you.  If I was mean to you that it would be evident.

So I thought I would just pour it on thick and see how it went.

:P
