Still nada here at work. I've officially been doing nothing for...5 hours and 41 minutes.
Only 2 hours and 19 minutes to go! Then all I can do is check the system when I get home. If it's not working still, I give up.

Isaac - you should feel honored. Not many get a sharing thread named after them ;)

A rare occurrence indeed.  I need to start a class here in my town on how to spell Isaac.  Wouldn't cost much for classroom materials, just keep a Bible for reference.  That's how it is spelled there.

Folks seem to have a hard time spelling Rachel also.  Seems like they want to put an extra "A" and spell it Rachael or something.

Ok, my phone's been going nuts today. First, I get a phantom voicemail saying I've won a 7 day cruise...now a restricted call goes right to voicemail..and same voicemail is left. :smirk2:

Well, maybe you really have won!  :D

And yeah, ministers always seem to know how to spell my name for some reason.... Maybe that means more saints oughta be reading the Bible more.

:pound: Actually, spelling is usually one of my fortes...if you catch a miss-spelling in my postings it is usually because I got in a hurry or spell check thought it knew better than I.  :P
Math though- well, if you look at the heading where Fuzzy Beast quoted my first post, you will see that she replied before I caught my addition mistake. :laughhard:

Nah, don't think I won anything.

Roscoe - I tend to misspell simple things then hit myself in the head later for forgetting how to spell it.

And...the system is up! Well, partially at least. I got into maybe 10 claims. Still have a ton to do once everything is working again.

Good. You need to work.  :P
And there for a while I got a ton of calls saying I'd won a cruise. They usually started with the sound of a ship's horn blasting  in my ear, then- "this is your captain speaking.." what moron thought that was a good idea to win someone's business?  You blast a horn in my ear, I'm gonna come looking for you and it won't be to buy anything....

Good thing you're not around here.  We draw names at church for the kids, to buy presents.  Some fool idjit drew little Bro. Jacob's name and got him an air horn.  An AIR HORN!  The kind you use out on the river to signal tugboats or something.  You don't get that for a boy, he has nothing to do with it EXCEPT misuse it.  I asked his mother how much she would pay me to make it disappear.  She said no, but I noticed she had to think about it before she refused the offer.

Ouch. There was a pickup here locally that had a train horn hooked up on it according to the owner. It was loud enough for that to be true. I've saw people cut him off and need to go home to change clothes after he expressed his displeasure by blowing it. :laughhard:

Our church got one of my nephews a toy that makes noise like a horn. Definitely not a good idea.

*cheers with PF* Yay for getting off early! :bigcheese:

Speaking of silly things to give kids... one year an uncle gave ALL the little boy cousins homemade drums for Christmas. :o The drums were cool. The drumming was not. :o Think lots of little boys (my dad's side of the family has a ridiculous number of cousins) and one living full of boys drumming. :o

Work today was challenging. The boss's step child think she runs the place and had a horrible attitude with everyone [customer's included] today. Thankfully I don't have to work directly with her again until Tuesday after next [almost a week and half]. Woot!!

The next 2 days I'll be working at the Fireworks Superstore for a fundraiser for church. [The smaller church in VA I've been visiting.] We'll raise close to 5,000 and no fireworks tent!!!! YAY!!!!

My cold has also seemed to forgiven me and I can now breath through my nose again.  :thumbsup2:

Isaac, they really are fabulous kiddos. I think it's probably more that I'm tired and fat and pregnant and my energy level isn't keeping up with theirs. It's not like they're being bad or something. I'm just worn out.

I suggest Jason for the baking (he's actually a big help in the kitchen), and Sean for the fence-building (he's getting to be as big as a moose now, and doesn't even realize his own strength sometimes).

And Melodya...it's been amazing. I cannot even tell you how much I've laughed and enjoyed myself. I've even talked to my parents quite a few times and they seem to be doing fine without me...I might should have tried harder to take this trip months ago!

I have worried just a wee bit, but I've tried to push it aside and not think about it.

:waving: Chey, my nephew and I have wandered around back roads this a.m. in Rusty, listening to a radio station that I've never found before, which was playing songs from the late forties and early fifties...perfect. :sing: "Waltz across Texas, with yoooouuu, in my arms, Waltz across Texas with yooooou." :sing:
And tonight Chey is staying the night with the nephew- kinda a swap with the brother and sister in law- we give them a kid free night and they give us one. So I *may* take Lou out to dinner. Maybe. If I can wear my overalls.
All in all, not a bad day.

So I'm home from my 1st day at the Fireworks Superstore. I was paid 7.50 and hour to stand around and socialize with church folk. I was ok with it. I only bagged 1 sale today. Plus working today and tomorrow completely pays for my registration, hotel, and gas to ladies conference in March  :teeth:

Brandon has the extra room almost completely cleared out. I'm pretty impressed. Usually we talk about it and he spends his day off working on his truck instead  I understand it's his 'baby' but unless it's gonna get in here and help with our remodeling then it ain't that important.

The family Christmas meeting was good while it lasted, but now they're all gone home.  Aunt Diane wound up with the "Whatever, I'm late anyway!" clock in the Dirty Santa game.  I ended up with a throw.

Do you ever try to say something and, knowing that it could be misunderstood by certain people, try to head off the misunderstanding by addressing the controversial point right up front? And have people completely ignore your qualifications or explanations, and promptly go with the misunderstanding bit, just as if you hadn't even addressed the concern at all? Never mind. *lol* It's kind of hard to explain without explaining.

And speaking of trucks, my Trailblazer won't start...I think it needs a new ignition switch...it seems to have a short in it....it's had a few weird issues the last couple months....  It was replaced once a couple years or so ago.  Of course when it snows a foot is when it won't run, when you might actually want 4 wheel drive for something...  But my Corolla is a trooper.

Hello.

Had a really bad painful night last night with pain in my abdomen. Ran a high fever. I was hurting so much that Donna made me sleep with Jessica's baby monitor on so they could hear me if I needed them. Pain subsided and my fever broke around 4am, and today I was fine. Slept till almost noon, then we went to town for the rest of the day. Came back, ate dinner, played games, watched funny YouTube vids, and now everyone is headed to bed. That's where I'm at now, and I'm FREEZING!

So gonna snuggle down and go to sleep now.

Night!

Today was cloak day or something.  I decided about 20 minutes before I left the house that I would wear my black cloak.  (I discovered it's not technically a cape, it's a cloak.)  When I was on my way to get it I saw Grandma had her waist-length black cape out.  Then at church, Sis. Miranda showed up in a grey cloak.  Either someone has been reading minds or I was just ahead of the times when I got my cloaks last year.

Mel, I think anything under 65° is cold pretty much.  I have to try and forgive God every winter... lol  I wonder to this day if standing outside waiting for the school bus in skirts, bobby socks and cheap canvas shoes messed my body up.  My feet would be in pain by time I got on the bus.  I remember the skin on my legs and face stung.  To this day I feel the cold all the way down to my bones, active or not, regardless of my weight.

Another day at the Fireworks Superstore. Longer than planned due to one of our ladies being unable to get out of her house due to snow. We had an inch at my house, around 2.5 in at the church, but nothing where the store is. Our area is so weird for things like that. I blame the mountains.

And while I'm preaching on others' faults- Herb Girl, obviously you don't follow God's word, specifically Matthew 7:8-10
" For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?"

I am, of course, referring to me begging for bread and fish in the form of blessings, and YOU giving me stones and serpents in the form of smitings.  :hypocrite:
I shall console myself with the fact that the Bible calls you evil .( See verse 11)

Seth those are sweet pictures.  I wish snow was made of something else and that all the work and cold didn't come with the beauty of it.

Right now it is snowing the biggest snowflakes.  Looks like a snowglobe outside.  One thing about snow like this is it makes it VERY quiet outside.  Sometimes deafening quiet. Pretty neat.

I tried to get a video of it this morning.  It wasn't sticking to my hand.  It's actually not very cold out (36°) so I don't think much of this will stick.

The snow falling acts like a buffer.  Kind of like how when they put those giant pad things on the walls in sanctuaries, it eliminates the echo.  So you can only hear what is right next to you, almost like a recording studio.  Which is very amazing cause you're outside in this big giant area and it's so quiet as if you are the only thing alive.. lol  It doesn't sound like rain.  It sounds like... maybe like tiny bits of tissue paper landing on carpet?

Vacation got old?  I thought you'd still be behind on sleep and trying to catch up.

Tiny bits of tissue paper landing on carpet is closer than anything I was able to think of.  We'll go with that.  Lots and lots of them, endlessly, quietly hitting the carpet, making a really soft patter.

In other news, how do I get my friends to stop buying junk computers from Wal-Mart?  You know the kind - really glossy surface, really cheap plastic feel, usually HP or Toshiba or Acer, breaks down in about a year and a half or two years.  Which is where I come in... they bring them to me and ask me to fix them.  Sorry, I can't fix junk, and if I could it would just break down somewhere else in a couple more months.

All I could do for this laptop a friend gave me last night, is retrieve some pictures he had on his hard drive.  *sigh*

Well, every ThinkPad I've ever bought (all of them pre-owned except for one) is still running strong.  Even the DVD bay, which I usually burn out through overuse on other computers.  And for all the limitations of Macs, they do last a good long time.

For all intents and purposes my record player is currently unusable.

More than a year ago the right channel stopped working.  I took it apart and found someone was really lazy about soldering connections, so I had to repair it, but the repair was unstable and I knew it wouldn't last forever.  Now it is distorted and I can't really fix it this time.

What am I going to do with all these records I have yet to run?

Oh well, I can get a lot of these cassettes run off in the meantime.

I used to have an old record player.  It was built with big speakers under it.  It needed some hardward of some sort and I found Radio Shack both knew what to do and could order the item.  It wasn't expensive at all.  Don't know if that'd help but if you just need a new section, you might find it somewhere?
Title: Re: We now have a gate to fix, because of Isaac's driving in Sharing 4-7-6.
Post by: Lynx on December 31, 2012, 10:50:12 PM
It won't work with this one, but thank you.  The problem here is there are four wires that go from the needle, through the tone arm, to the record player base - two wires for each channel, one signal and one ground wire.   They were connected very weakly to the pins that contact the cartridge head.  More than a year ago the right channel connection broke and I had to resolder it.  Now it's out again and this time I can't fix it.

I'm looking at a player on ebay for about $20... says it works, but the headshell is broken, which is no biggie for me because I use an after-market headshell anyway.  I can't call them to make sure it still turns and ask if the platter is balanced right though, as this is New Year's Eve, and the auction is over in about 7 hours.

Went to town and got an oil change in the car and such.  They cheated me and charged me for a tire rotation that should be free cause I got the tires there.  They've tried that junk on me before....  I thought it was high when I paid, but I didn't say anything at the moment, but I called them back in a few after I left and asked about it.  They're supposed to credit my reward card for the difference.  :-?

Went to a few stores and got groceries and came home and sold a few chickens and moved hay and tended fowl.

And here I be.

It snowed here again too.  It's wet and slushy and crud.

And I have been studying for another of my old hobbies....ham radio. Yes, I know, laugh it up. Too many puns there for you to pass it up, I know. But soon I shall be licensed ham... :P
And I need to study for church Wednesday night. Man. And I just want my recliner and a sandwich right now. Lazyness, thy name is Bob.  :biglaugh:

Who is Gene Watson, have I heard his songs before?

About the ham radio... do people still do that?  I thought Skype, IM, chat rooms and forums had replaced that long ago.  Let me know if you find anything interesting on the airwaves, I'm sincerely interested and curious.

One note about that though:  Radio Shack, originally THE place for ham radio fans to get parts, is no longer the place it used to be.  Now it's a basic consumer electronics store, carrying about the same things Wal-Mart has, but for 1.5 times the price.  At least.  I'd say the best bet is to get everything on amazon.com or elsewhere online.

Gene Watson is an old country singer...one of his big hits, if I recall, was "Farewell Party". This is a straight gospel album...I've always loved his singing. Check out youtube  for "Before the Hammers could ring". You are eccentric enough to enjoy it, like myself... :P
And yeah, there are still tons of hams...Alot of them are tech nerds that could build a radio with tissue paper, a spoon and a car battery.  :laughhard: Maybe a slight exaggeration, but you'd love it. It can be very technical which is my downfall. But it can also be a kick back and talk type of hobby too. I can take a 2 meter walkie talkie, hit a repeater and talk anywhere in the state..perfect for emergencies.

Well. We successfully made it into the new year.

No, I'm not tired of vacation, I was just ready to be doing something and out and about.

We went to Best Buy and looked around, and then the Dollar Tree. Subway for lunch...then on the way to church we went by Publix and got some grape juice bubbly. Went to church, had an excellent service that lasted a long time but was still over by 11, then went to Whataburger and rang in the new year there...came back home, drank the bubbly and watched a movie. Now it's nearly 3 and I'm wide awake.

Still don't know what day I'll be headed back home, but Donna said before Friday. So we will see. Kinda getting worried that if I stay too much longer the repercussions when I get back will be horrible. But it's beyond my control as I don't have a vehicle or bus ticket money, so trying not to worry about it too much. My parents are indeed alive. I have witnesses that have told me so.

So I guess that's enough. Lol

The first week was hectic and fun.  The second week was fun until Thursday, then it got boring.  I'm so ready to go back to work tomorrow.

An awning over grandma's door fell down from the snow.  Had to go take it the rest of the way down and such.

I found a really good way to start the day, but it won't last long...

1/2 glass of homemade boiled custard
2 large dark chocolate oatmeal cookies, crumbled
3/4 cup additional oatmeal

Mix all together and cook in the microwave.  Chocolate oatmeal.  Or something.

It won't last long because we only have a bit more homemade boiled custard and chocolate oatmeal cookies left.

Happy New Year GPers. (:

I barely made it till midnight this year.  The kids were adamant that we stay up with them.  We watched movies and ate snacks.

We all slept in terribly late and now Nathan and the kids are outside sledding and I'm about to make spelt waffles and see if I can handle them.  Lots of controversy on them as far as celiac/gluten free subjects go. I found a good looking recipe that calls for seltzer water but who has that lying around that doesn't drink alcohol?  So I had to find another recipe... lol

Mel, I see a very awesome truth in your vacation.  That your parents can handle themselves, at least for a few weeks.  This is great news!  Here's to hoping that truth will = you not feeling like everything rests on you.  Because they can handle it, even if they demand otherwise.

I've always wanted to do a study on what it really means to honor your father and mother.  Has anyone else ever done one?

Their apple bread is good.  Their sweet potato bread was better.  And, from what I understand, easier to get out of the pan without it falling apart.

Well...mom and dad called today and we had a lovely conversation. :smirk2:

They really showed their true colors. I won't get into it. I was going home soon anyway, but I'll be going on the Greyhound home again. Far be it for me to have some time off. They act like its been so terrible when last week they said everything was just peachy and fine.

I have enjoyed myself, but I have a feeling when I get home I will regret ever leaving because of te guilt trips and the torment I'll have to face because I left.

It's not fair and I'm so tired of it all.

Anyway. Football game is on, we are fixing to watch our favorite team play in the orange bowl. Yay! Go Seminoles!

I"m sorry Mel  :-( Brandon's dad makes an effort to take care of things when we are away but we know it's hard on him. He doesn't really complain but you can tell it stresses him out.

Went and met up with Brandon's cousin/best friend and his wife. We're gonna try to do some coupley things with them. Dinner, movies, those types of double date things.

Tomorrow is my 1st day of cross training at work. I'm nervous but the girl training me is awesome. I know she won't get flustered with me and she'll explain things to me. [Repeatedly if needed.]

For some reason I like training people.  Maybe it's the nerd in me - I explain everything they need to know, everything they might need to know, everything I've learned that makes the job faster or easier, and then look around for something else to explain.  They may be bored to tears, but they always know how to do the job right!

Sorry, Mel.  It's hard when you're more mature than your parents.  I can't remember how your parents ever managed w/o you before you moved there.

Lovely last day here.  Nathan goes back to work in the morning as usual.  I was not so smart as to readjust myself, Isaac.  5:30am is going to come too early... lol

I'm posting from Andrew's new NOOK he got for Christmas.  Last year Nathan's family asked if they could get Andrew an Ipod touch & we said no because we didn't feel he was ready to have something to have unlimited internet acces on.  So this year they didn't ask, they just bought the NOOK.  So it became a family item.  Nice of them to get us one.  ;)  Yes, I could turn off the wifi but I'm pretty sure he is smarter than both of us on technology.  It's all fine and dandy until couriosity gets the better of him or even by naivity he ends up seeing something he can't forget.   Luckily, he is having a good attitude about it.

Thanks Isaac.  It's all very well and good to make those rules.  Call me old fashioned but ~for me~ it's irresponsible to put a 13/14 yr old in that large of a temptation to break them.  Plus, that was a little different b/c it's for a phone which I'll just assume is some kind of necessity for that family.  Andrew isn't in the position to need any form of phone as of yet. This parent isn't coming from a Godly standpoint, obviously, or the understanding of the spiritual consequences of a teen boy stumbling upon pornography and have the tech knowledge to delete browser history would = not worth the risk.  Do I trust my kid?  Yep! But I'm not ignorant or naive.  They don't call it every man's battle for nothing.  I would also disagree with the notion that she is capable of keeping him accountable for those rules.  Knowing the password is only as good as using it to check on things often and unexpectedly.  Few parents have the time, even SAHM's to stay on top of that.

MellowYellow:  I just thought it was mildly amusing the way the rules were phrased, and it was germane to the topic at hand.  I wouldn't give a kid a smartphone until he was old enough to move out.

Personally I think smartphones train people to google instead of thinking.  But I don't have one, so I can't say that as a certainty.  Scientists with IQ tests say constantly using a smartphone as a secondary brain reduces the user's intelligence though, because you no longer have to remember facts, you just have to know how to access them when you need them.  If Wikipedia goes down, some people's apparent IQ drops by about 30 points.  :P

You know, that's an interesting point.  I was taught and also I have said to my kids that being intelligent doesn't necessarily mean how much info you've memorized but your ability to learn and also to find answers.  My parents used that referencing the encyclopedia and often sent me to look it up.  We had 2 sets.  I have yet to afford even one decent set.  But I've sent them to look it up online.  Google has no facts of it's own, just a search tool.  And we have discussed that Wikipedia is not a good source to cite on it's own.  Now if it sites other reliable sources, I'm good with it.  Even in school, Andrew is not allowed to use Wiki as a source.

The problem is if the power goes out... lol  I do wish I had an encyclopedia set.

I was in Arkansas a few days last week, but not near enough to irritate Robert. However, Isaac, I thought of you at a local steakhouse I ate twice at in Siloam Springs AR during my stay.

It is called Callahan's Steakhouse, a local place, lots of logs-style construction and hardwoods in the tables, furtniture. The food is excellent, but what made me thnk of you is a house bread they serve.

They make it themselves lopcally, and I was told it is not easy. It is a baked honey-wheat loaf, but still manages to be soft and very lightly chewy. The honey is just faintly sweet in the background, but is enough to completely kill off the bitter taste that wheat bread so often has.

Excellent food there, as well, from the stuff on the menu.

I ate a whole half of a pizza the other night but only gained .6 lbs. Not too shabby but can't make that a habit. I couldn't believe what the pizza guy said! He put onions on the whole pizza instead of just half and he says "is that gonna cause a big problem or something?" Uhhhh yeah! Trying to do some unexpected coordinating.  Have friends in OK that are turning 30 and not yet gotten close with anyone.  He's turning 30 in a few weeks and when his wife asked who he'd like to celebrate with, he got really down because there's really no one around.  So I'm trying to see if any of our mutual friends up here could go.  It'd be a surprise, he'd probably cry with elation.  She's holding back the tears just at the thought of the fellowship.

I'll be 30 this month. Anyone want to come help me celebrate? I'm sure no one around here will want to [except B].

Learned to draw blood from a dog today. I took my own dog in to learn though. I woulda felt bad stabbing someone elses dog. Also our full-time kennel employee was fired today. All I have to say is it's about time.

Ow ow ow ow OW!

2.5 weeks was too much time off.  I got out of shape.  Today at work I think I pulled a calf muscle.  (Insert Cheese-y Seth's cow joke here.)

I've had pulled pork, never had pulled veal.  :smirk2:

Went to work and came home and went to church and came home, and such, among other things.

I truly would if 1. Nathan said yes.  2. It was as close as this trip.  The only way we are taking it is cause we are carpooling.  Which will make the trip a whopping $75 for us.

I'm home.  It was hectic at work tonight but I and my leg made it.  And I didn't take any pain meds all night, for a good reason - the pain is there for a reason, to warn you not to do something.  As long as I didn't move in a way that caused pain, I was not making it worse.

Trying to get this apartment back in order...of course mom and dad didn't do much while I was gone. It's not a complete disaster...but they didn't take out any garbage, and the toliet is backed up into the shower...they said that happened the day I left, so it's been nasty for 11 days. They were waiting on me to get home to fix it. Which means neither of them took a shower while I was gone. Lovely.

The kitchen was decent though. (the garbage was at least not still in the kitchen.)

I've already cleaned my "room" and unpacked. Did a load of laundry. Now I guess I'll clean the bathroom next so I can take a shower myself. Maybe before my shower I'll finish up the kitchen and clean out the fridge...that is a mess and I dont know what we have and what we need since I've not been here.

:smirk2:

Vacation is officially over and I'm Cinderella again. Lol

Test?  You have to take a test to have a ham radio hobby?
Title: Re: We now have a gate to fix, because of Isaac's driving in Sharing 4-7-6.
Post by: Roscoe on January 04, 2013, 04:52:34 PM
Yep. In order to transmit on a ham radio you must be licensed by the FCC. There are different levels of licensing....what I'm going for is the low license, "Tech", which costs me $15 to test for. License is good for ten years.
There's ALOT more to ham radio than talking on it like you do a CB. But because of the requirements, you get away from the gutter language and drunk idiots. Most folk that are interested enough to take the test try to better the hobby....thus, the "way to technical" at times, but over all good folks.
As an added benefit, there is tons of technology that you can get into on ham radio level that you can't on cb's, ect.

I just did what I shoulda done first - googled it.  Seems the whole purpose of requiring a license is specifically to keep it from becoming a worldwide CB chat environment.

Maybe I oughta get into this, maybe even put up a repeater.

Roscoe, we have a couple of guys in our church that have umm.. handles?   I guess it can reach really super far?   I've thought about with the country going as it is, it might be a more reliable form of communication in an emergency.  I don't know how monitored it is though?

Knowing that you are a self described nerd.....you'd love it.  :laughhard: If you decide you are interested, I can mail you a cd rom with all the test questions and answers, among other things...They cost around $25, but I friend loaned it to me. He told me to be sure it gets back to him, but if I want to loan it out, it'd be fine. You could download it and ship it back....I've studied around a week, and took the test pool on this, then have been taking random tests. Not failed one out of the past thirty or so. Shouldn't have a prob.

"Handles" are usually C.B....mine was "Renegade" years and years ago. Ham radio have call signs, such as K5IAJ....And yes, depending on conditions you can talk worldwide, even use them with a phone patch to make calls if you have the right equipment. A friend of mine talked with a guy in South Africa the other day and exchanged postcards with him to verify it.  :o It gets alot more technical than I ever will though.

Sometimes home makes me want to scream. Hah. ;)

Kitchen done. Dinner started. Trash almost all gathered up. My room is spotless. Three loads of laundry done. Bathroom is underway. Need a plumbers wrench to take the pipe lid off outside...been trying to get it unclogged so I can clean it. Dad is headed out to look in the van and see what tools he can find. Soon as that's done and cleaned I can shower myself and get ready to go pay the phone bill and go to the store.

I'll have you to know I passed the initial test with flying colors, ate a delicious BBQ sandwich, and met several new friends. Also ran into several people I've known for years, but hadn't expected to see there. One of which was my mayor from the city I used to work for who is currently in search of a police chief. We had a nice chat. While I don't expect a job offer, it was nice to be able to get some things off of my chest regarding my previous job, and he wants to sit down with me now and talk more...

We shan't discuss the second level test that they gave me a free chance to take. I failed it terribly, but I hadn't studied a lick for it.

So Brandon has been talking about quitting smoking off and on now for a couple of months. I met him after work this evening at Walmart and he starts digging into his arm squalling about 'it itches'. Lo and behold if he didn't decide today to quit and is currently wearing his nicotine patch. He's currently chewing up a storm in gum but I'm proud of him for making the decision and I'm behind him 100%. If you think to pray for us do [especially him!!]. My dad is also lending loads of support since he'll be cigarette free 2 years in March.

Work today was awesome. No one related to the owner was there. Things went smoothly and everyone got along. I drew blood from 2 different victims....I mean patients today. And both were fairly clean sticks too.

Having a lady date with my friend from my old church. I didn't figure Brandon would want to purse shop. Plus he's working. Since he went full time at AutoZone though he now only has to work every 3rd sunday. I'm hoping maybe he'll want to go to church sunday morning. We'll see how the no smoking goes and go from there

I got everything done today that I intended.

I gotta get up and take dad to Dialysis tomorrow...I haven't done that in two weeks. Gonna be hard to wake up that early.

I am currently listening to my iPod. Earlier today while cleaning my room, I noticed it was charged fully, and I wondered how many hours straight it could play on one charge, so I plugged it into my clock radio and it's been playing continually for 9 hours and 40 minutes now. I hope to be awake when it finally cuts off so I'll know how long it lasts. It's on shuffle and there is 200 songs exactly on it.

I don't know how long ago they actually dammed that up like it is, it'd been a while since I'd drove down that road.

There is a man-made pond on the next road over from here at home and it has a culvert pipe of some sort fixed as a spillway in the dam.  Well I think there are beavers over there that may have plugged that spillway up, because the water level looks higher than it used to be I think.  And it seems like some time ago someone had said something about that issue.

Haha! Reminds me of that one award-winning photo of David's... we had gone to the zoo and were at the elephant pen waiting to see the new baby elephant. But there were MOBS of people, and you couldn't really see past anyone, and everyone up front said there wasn't anything to see anyhow because the baby was hiding behind his mom. So David held the camera way up above his head, aimed in the general direction of the mom elephant, and took a picture............ JUST as baby elephant stepped out from behind his mom. *LOL* So when he entered his photo in the fair - and won - we all laughed. And the camera club he's a part of I think thought he was lying or something when they were all critiquing his photo and talking about stops, and angles, and lighting, and technical junk... and then turned to him and said "what technique did you use"... well, when he said he held the camera above his head and shot... *snicker* Pretty hilarious.

I had a 17 year old cat with bad kidney's once. Once she started bleeding all the time I called it. I sat right there petting her precious little paw as the pink needled her.

I'm up at 730 on my one day in the past 2 weeks to sleep late because my stupid dog hurt her paw. I could bandage it myself except Brandon is gone to work and Mike won't keep Bella from getting in my face everytime I get Whiskey settled enough to let me look at it. Whiskey is a weinie when it comes to her paws. She screams and yells anytime I try to even clip her nails. So it looks like I'll be making an appearance at work on my day off  :smirk2:

We are now home from the vet with things to bandage her cut pad on her digit if it starts bleeding again. Currently it's clotted so we're ok. My alarm clock went off on my phone as I was driving home.

Brandon caved and had a cigarette this morning. But 2 in a 24 hour period is better than a whole pack. Baby steps. He did say he wasn't nearly as congested when he woke up as he normally would be.

Lord. I had forgotten how much I hate working Saturdays.  :pound: Since my beloved sister has her truck in the shop she's driving my canyon. That left me having to drive Rusty, so we took the slow route in this morning. My morning wouldn't be so bad except all these morons that are working on the weekend demanding that I unlock the door. Idiots. Bah.
I am definately in a "Seth" mood.

Interview today at 3pm with Tenaska. An admin job I applied for the week before Christmas.
I have friends there, who've all put in good words, and it could be good!!

Prayers would be greatly appreciated. I reallly need an open door!
so, how did it go?

Went ok I think. I already know a lot about the company from previous interviews and my friends. So I didn't have whole lot of questions.

My friend text me later in the evening and said "ok Jenn, word on the street is your interview went really well."
So guess we'll find out next week! Pray pray pray!

Lol mines playing now....except it has 1,821 songs!

The only place I ever play songs is if I'm at the church doing something like cleaning etc., I'll turn on the CD player and play it over the PA system.

Lately I've turned the car radio on a few times....I used to do that a lot, but then hadn't been....still not doing it too much.

My sister just called.  I could tell right away she wasn't doing very good, from the sound of her voice.  She said the doctor gives her about 6 months to live.

Odd to hear her in tears.  She never cries.   :-\

At our house...

Everyone at my house is sick - except me. And this is the nastiest bug I've seen in a long time. They've been throwing up, having severe diarrhea (as in, up 12-14 times just during the night), and my hubby passed out this morning (and almost did a second time). I'm really concerned - both that my family gets well quickly and that that I DON'T GET IT!!! Being pregnant and being that sick don't mix well. Asking for extra prayer for me and my family.

Praying for both your families Ruby and Isaac.

Back from my lady date. Bought a new purse [with a gift card], a dress on clearance, and 3 hairbands [all also on clearance]. Oh and lunch. Glad my friend is a bargain shopper too. lol. She asked me to please visit my old church tomorrow. Brandon said if he's off he'd definitely like to go there. So we'll see.

In the last 36 hours he's only smoked 3 cigarettes. Sadly he has also became Mr Grumpy Pants today. I'll leave him here and go watch the football game at my parents alone if he doesn't keep the attitude in check.

The grumpy attitude is normal for people trying to quit smoking.  Try to be as understanding as you can.  I've never had the habit but both my parents did, and it ain't easy.  The grumpiness is more a chemical thing than an attitude thing - not something you can just drop, or snap out of.

LOL true Seth.

My sister smoked during her pregancy of the twins.  Had them at 6mo.  They have all sorts of issues.  She still smokes.  She limited herself to only smoking outside but guess what?  3rd hand smoke, which is the residue the smoke leaves behind on clothes, walls, etc, ... is JUST as harmful as 2nd hand smoke and lasts indefinately.  So babies that go and lick/gnaw on something years later that has had smoke on it, get the same effect of breathing in someone's smoke right there.  Yuk.

Ruby, those affects have been in a bug going around here too.  My friend had it and Hannah got a bit of it but not as severe and only for a couple of days.  No Fun At All.  I think I am fighting something cause I woke up with my eyes puffy and a lovely frontal headache but if that's all I get then I won't complain.

Cleaned the church, Nathan was so nice to help me today.

Because I stayed home with Hannah on Sunday, I STILL didn't pass out all the Christmas cards.  Goodness, I'm a mess.  lol

Hey! God loves sinners so much he died for 'em... :laughhard: Some of the best singing I've ever heard came from a whiskey soaked drunk. I'll never forget getting a call to a local bar one night for a fight. I got there and the participants had left but they wanted us to walk through and show our presence. Imagine my surprise when the band struck up "Please Forgive Me" by the Crabb family.  :o One of the best renditions I'd ever heard, and the entire bar crowd began singing along.
Blew me away. Talked to the band after they'd finished their show, the lead singer was a huge Crabb Family fan. Said they did at least one Gospel song every night, whether it was in a bar or a fairgrounds.

Got home from church. Ended up having a meeting with the pastor and my ex. He wants us both to be able to attend there. He feels like big things are in store for both of us if we can stick out the awkwardness. I'm more than willing to give it a shot if God sends the pastor to tell me this. Who am I to question God?

Mike is sleeping I think. He refuses to go to the hospital to see his sister [too many bad memories of Brandon's sister's passing] but it's tearing him up. It breaks me every time I see a grown man cry. Getting ready to get some chili going to feed everyone today. Shoulda got it going this morning, but it was a bit of a mad house around here.

Thanks for the prayers!!

Tired. Got home from lunch and got 2 phone calls, so I'm still sitting in the foyer where I was on the phone, in my church clothes that I've been wearing since 8am. Gotta go get these hose and shoes off and relax my poor feet.

Can't nap, cause in an hour I'm gonna watch the webcast of Jolene's church tonight. They are remembering Baby Hope in the service and I don't wanna miss it.

Forgot to say earlier that I messed up my left wrist somehow. It's in a lot of pain when I move it. I have had several near tears moments today, and it wasn't because the spirit of God was moving on me...

I have two wrist braces, one for each, but I knew that one was lost in the flood, but had managed to save the other...I didn't know which one though, and was almost sure it was the right one. Luckily, when I got in from lunch, I looked and it was my left! Yay! That's good cause that the one that's hurting and I won't have to make a trip to CVS and get another one...at least till my right one flares up.

Made it through the day. Got a $118 blessing....remarked to my captain that I was gonna have to buy a pair of new boots soon. He asked when they had bought me a pair last. I told him they'de never bought me a pair- I wasn't aware that they would. He loaded me up and bought me a new pair of boots. Said the department would buy me a pair every two years.
I mowed the front yard, hopefully for the last time this season. Now I am whupped and don't feel like doing much.

Just dropping by to say howdy. I would say hello, but Roscoe and Mini won't know the definition of the word. :hypocrite:

Glad my guys are feeling so much better, but now I'm exhausted. Again. I think I need a little cabin on a mountain somewhere. Somewhere completely quiet. Where I can sleep for a month. Currently drinking peppermint tea, and trying to stay awake so I can keep listing new ToB products in all our various avenues. Thought about not even posting the newest inventory on GP, but... I think I will. I have too many clients on GP to just ignore them, and not all of them are on Facebook and/or Etsy. Aaaaanyhow...

If I fall asleep at my computer, somebody come wake me up, please. I really need to keep working. Paying the rent is a good thing.

:beret:

P.S. Roscoe! You beat me to posting. HURRAY for the dept buying you new boots!!

We DO so know the meaning of "hello". Ain't that the northern version of " I'm speaking to you because I feel obligated, don't dare take it as anything more"?
Now, "howdy"- don't that sound so much friendlier? Like "Come on over, neighbor and have a cup an' we'll jaw a while."...
I'll take mine as "Howdy".... :laughhard: And I'd love to have a mountain cabin. Someplace that you'd need a fourwheel drive and a map to get to.

Made turkey, stove top, gravy, and moms signature potato salad for dinner tonight. I peeled and cooked the taters, and eggs, chopped the celery, onions, and pickles, but mom had to come in and season it. It's not the same unless she makes it. Mine never tastes right.

Oh, we had cranberry sauce too. A post Cmas, Cmas dinner. Yummy.

I know exactly what seasonings she uses, and about how much cause I've watched her since I was a wee bitty child. But no matter what, I can't get it to taste exactly right, and hers tastes exact the same every time. Even though nothing is ever measured and nothing is written down. Her is always perfect and mine is almost the same but never quite reaches the wonderfullness that everyone adores of her tater salad.

Seriously, it's like the best ever.

I made a pretty big batch so we would have plenty left, and we do. So that's what I'm having later. :fork:

It's funny, Mel....my mama cooked with "a pinch of this, a dash of that and a sprinkle of the other" without measurements. I watched her cook my entire life and know exactly what she did for biscuits, gravy, and a host of other dishes- but I can never make them the same.

Poor Ruby  :(

Made it til 2 then cut out of work early. It didn't help that I was having an allergic reaction to one of the dogs in the back. My eye's got super red and my eyelids started to swell. Had to take benadryl which of course made me super sleepy.

Home for the evening. Gonna whip up some bake spag for dinner.

Brandon is planning on going to church with me tomorrow. Didn't even ask him if he wanted to go. He just told me he'd meet me there after he gets off work. Also day #5 of "no" smoking. No sneaking cigarettes today though. He's completely out. Been dizzy but he said the constant craving is gone. Just the mildly obsessed need. lol.

Brandon's mom just blew in with the boys like a tornado, tore up the house, took groceries, let one of the dogs out, and left again. I know I'm not supposed to hate anyone, but if I could she'd be in my top 5.

Oh and she said she'd rather Brandon smoke and give both of us cancer than for him to gain weight. What kind of mother says that?!?!?!?!!?

Working in the treatment room today. So far my day has consisted of plucking hair off of male cat parts so they could be neutered and helping give a Bassett hound an enema.

My eye twitch is back. I've noticed it's only when certain people work.

Looking forward to church tonight. And from the way he was talking Brandon is too.

Sure are a lot of people getting the stomach bug lately.  We have many out sick here too.

Fortunately I haven't caught it.  Yet.  But when I am sick, the above cartoon about sums it up.

Seen in the news:  Studies show really sweet, carbonated beverages may make you more susceptible to depression.  Diet sodas have an even higher depression risk factor.

Are they getting cause and effect mixed up?  And who's going to tell Roscoe the news about his beloved Dr. Pepper?

Just for kicks I read the viewer comments.  Most of them were the usual random comments by people who think they know more than they do, but one gave me a laugh.  "You read news saying that too much soda is not good for you, you read another, too much beer is not good for you, another too much coffee is not good for you, smoking is not good for you, so you got to give up something, I'm going to give up reading."

The things the news reports, that might be the best way to fight depression.   :thumbsup2:

Sorry to hear that.

Went and took eggs and chickens to town with ma and pa when they went to the bank and went down and got the TB....had to make Ford give me the stupid credit they said they were giving me for ripping me off last time....  I swan to goodness, you can't depend on anybody to do anything right....  They might as well put me on payroll because I have to recalculate all their bills and invoices and check everything for accuracy and ask about everything they said they did to see if they did it or not.  I hate everyone and everything.  Sheesh.

Anyways.....went to the grocery store and etc. and I'm home finishing eating a bean bowl and yadda yadda.  Blah blah.

And Wooby, I'm glad you are not AS sick as you were, even though you have no musical taste. :hypocrite:
Isaac, I refuse to hear anything negative about my beloved Dr Pepper, of which I have yet to taste today.
And in sharing- I got my corvette part in AND my new cd, and am enjoying it now.I still want to go to bed and sleep for a few years, but alas, the lot hath fallen upon me to preach to my heathen brethren and sisters at my church. :hypocrite:
Therefore it shall be a few hours before sleep finds me..

Wellll... it would be crazy stiff, and horridly uncomfortable, and would probably feel like it was choking you - no matter WHERE I placed the button closure, and it would be super thick (think of the 3-4 layers of fabric in certain areas of the cape, and then remember seams that are turned - like in the edges of the collar - would be DOUBLE that thick)... yeah, I don't even want to THINK about trying to sew that! :o *grin* Sorry, pal. I'm at WM. dad messed the zipper up on his only pair of pants last night, so he decided that today we would go buy him some pants. we have been trying to convince him to get new ones for months now, and since he busted the zipper, he thinks it's finally ok.

Lord.

So we are at Mcds in WM, fixing to go look around. I think Ill look elsewhere. Pants shopping is not my idea of a good time.

Then we are going to a mini flea market here in town to try and find a cast iron skillet. Ours is in storage...I think. Not real sure. Could have been stolen when the house was broke into a few weeks ago. Either way, I can't find it and I HAVE to have a cast iron skillet to make dinner tonight.

We are having LIVER AND ONIONS, rice, and spinach.

Seth is invited for dinner. All you can eat. ;)

Dad got three pairs of pants at WM. and we priced iron skillets there too. 15.98 for a new one. We went to the mini flea market, and I got one for FOUR DOLLARS! Used! That means seasoned already. Yay!

Gonna go wash it and oil it down real good and put it in the oven for a few hours to make sure the bacteria is all killed. Dont need any germs on it but our own.

He is like me. Just enough clothes to get by. I currently have one good jean skirt. And one black dress skirt.

That's all.

But I'm content. I don't need a bunch of clothes.

It drives Justin crazy that I'm like that.

Well now, Officer Roscoe.... SOME of us would NOT know that, because SOME of us do not frequent such places. :P :P

Roscoe, got any ideas on how to make a 2002 Mustang convertable a smoother ride? Thought about getting those nice tires from Goodyear that is suppose to be a smoother ride with; can't remember what they are called. Not sure if it would be a wise decision.

Not really. A Mustang, like a Camaro, Challenger, ect is by definition a muscle car/sportscar which means it is designed for handling. Unfortunantly, the things that make one handle  well- stiffer springs-  make its ride stiffer.  :smirk2: I'd imagine the tires wouldn't make enough of a difference for you to notice much.
Mini might can help better than I on this one...I've never owned a Mustang, and he had the honor of having a GT Convertible- or Chellebelle did and let him drive it.  :P

Who wants a mushy smooth ride?  I hated it when I had to drive my Grandma's car because it was made to be a "luxury" car, really soft suspension, and you can't really feel the drive.

Roscoe:  All kidding aside, I have no idea what a whiskey soaked style is.  I probably have some in my collection that falls under that heading though.  If, in your explorations of those DVDs, you have found any, please let me know.

MelodyB:  And gravy?  Need some gravy with that liver and onions.  Beef, chicken or pork liver?  And do I qualify for this all-you-can-eat invite?  :D
I find it impractical to stick with just ONE pair of pants, but I like to keep my wardrobe small.  When I was living in east TN I could pack all the clothes I owned into a backpack, which was a good thing because I rode a bike everywhere - including to the laundromat.   :smirk2:

Roscoe and minnesota:  Ever heard Ray Stevens' song "Used Cars"?

What exactly is "stove gas"?

Gas that the stove burns.  :eyebrow:

The tank was not actually empty.....for some reason the stove priorly ceased burning and we assumed it was out....I don't know what the deal was there....so for now I didn't go get any.

So... propane or butane, maybe?

If so, the truck usually brings it to the house around here.

Unless you're cooking on a camp stove and using Coleman fuel...

I might be able to...

We had a Mustang, and enjoyed it.  The ride is what the ride is...sporty.  Not as rough as a Corvette, but not as soft as other cars.  What is it doing?

Propane.

It runs off large cylinder tanks.  We've just been picking it up ourselves for a long time, I forget what the deal was, couldn't hardly get the gas people to do it or what it was...  Years ago my uncle used to haul all our gas cylinders all the time.

Okay one more whiskey joke and I'll leave you alone, promise...

Roscoe was the "whiskey soaked" style a result of mixing rock 'n' roll with rock 'n' rye?   :biglaugh:

Not sure what rock 'n' rye is, but I hear it's some kind of whiskey... someone said as a result of mixing the two he wound up seeing and hearing double.  Seems the hearing double part would interfere with my music though.

I have been awake the last few nights weighing out a lot of things.
The library is about to close, gotta go, I love you all... PLEASE pray for me.

I'm pretty sure the men in my household have blinders on to dirt. Am I the only one who sees it? Am I just becoming OCD? AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! Somedays honestly I'm mad/sad I moved here. If I had a loved one living like this I would feel horrible for them. I'm completely embarassed by how it is out here. How do people become this way? There is no way for me to keep this house clean by myself. I can't do it and work 40+ hours a week. I need them to get off their lazy hind ends and help me keep their own house clean.

Sorry. Needed to vent.

Got to sleep a bit late today. Went to the gym. Now I'm cleaning. Since no one else does. Well take that back. They rotate who does the dishes. But I do everything else.  :smirk2:

Oh by the way Roscoe, ye starter of threads - the gate is fixed.  Cost $75 for a new one.  That's the most a dozen eggs has ever cost me...

I think they were shocked that I didn't hit-and-run.  They kept mentioning how nice it was that I told them I clobbered their gate and paid for it.  A shame really.  Back when I was a kid if you didn't take care of your mistakes there was something wrong with you.  These days it's remarkable if you DO clean up after yourself.

Good. Now I have a title for the new thread- "The farm is back to being heaven- Isaac fixed the gate in 4-7-7."  :P

And yeah, it's a shame no one takes responsibility anymore.
In sharing, I have found a radio I want. Bad. And it's about half price. And I have the money. BUT- I lose my moral standing with Lou on my harping about spending, AND will have to spend equal the cost of the radio for her Sharkie mop/vaccum/sweeper thingie. 'Twould be an expensive purchase all things considered. Still thinking about doing it. :laughhard:

Storming here tonight, very bad. We've gotten close to four inches or better of rain today, and it's still coming down strong and steady. The yard is flooded, and the septic system won't function. Ham radio weather net is reporting hail in various places throughout the state and winds up to 60 mph to the west and south of us a bit. Tornado warnings throughout the state too. Think I'm gonna go sack out while I can.

I went and layed in my bed at 8:30. Actually went to sleep at 10. I woke up at 6am stiff and sore cause apparently I crashed and didn't move a bit all night. Then I went back to sleep. Overslept. Woke up at 8. I was supposed to be up at 7, cause I have to be at music practice at 8:30. So I showered dressed and was on the platform with my people at 8:35. 35 minutes from the bed to the platform. Sheesh.

But now I'm so worn out! Why can I get adaquate sleep and still feel so exhausted? It's rediculious.

It stormed here last night, too. Electricity stayed on but Internet service went out. Again. Just came back on this morning.

I'm back browsing ebay....and I've bought another c.d.... :P Isaac, I may catch you in music if this keeps up. :laughhard: Got my eye on two more artists too. And I hate rain. I could be perfectly content if God simply watered the earth with a dew-like mist or something. Hey, He's God, he can speak the reservoirs and rivers full.   :P

I'm really tired of being left out. Either intentional or unintentional, I feel like an outcast who is doomed to just hang out with my parents forever. I'm so sick of not having any local friends who I can hang out with.

I have plenty of local friends. Just none who I can do anything with cause they are either married or live too far out of this town for me to hang with. Then when they are available, I'm not cause I have to tote my handicap people around.

I'm just a bit lonely today. When will it be my turn to have an actual companion? When will I get to be the one everyone wants to be with? When will I stop feeling like an outcast and outsider? When?

Blah.

I'm gonna nap. Sleep is the only way I escape lately.

I did what I said I was gonna do, that I almost never do - I took a nap.  I like it when I wake up feeling like I slept enough.  :)

Roscoe if you have CDs I don't have then you already technically have more music than I.  You have all mine, plus whatever CDs you have bought, equals more than mine.  Granted, you might not *like* all that music... :P  And I hear ya about finding yet-another-group-who's-CDs-I-gotta-have.  Right now I'm wanting to wipe out amazon.com of everything Watermark ever made, but I don't yet have the money.  I will soon though.

Awesome church this morning. Brandon had alot of positive things to say about the service and the pastor after service. Funeral and graveside was this afternoon. Now onto more cleaning and trying to get the primer on our spare room.

Brandon's mom walked up to me after the services for Eileen today and told me she was happy I was in Brandon's life and apologized for being horrible to me the past 2 years.

Wow, Heather, God is so good. I'm glad for you. That sounds good.

Well, I went for an invigorating walk out in -1 wind chill. My lungs weren't too happy, but it got rid of my headache!

Have a good night everyone.

Ugh. Lord. It is cold here this morning. And it is the first day of session, also known as " Make Roscoe scurry like a rat all day" season. Felt like a steaming pile last night, spent all evening in my recliner, then transitioned to the bed. Wish I could have stayed there all day. Not 100% but somewhat better.

I was unable to access the forum all morning.  Something about an "internal connection problem."

Anyway, howdy y'all.  I'm up and feeling much better than I should, all things considered.  My biggest concern right now is I forgot to get my shoes out of the washing machine last night, and I can't dry them in the dryer, so I have them propped up in front of a fan hoping they'll dry out before work.  If wet shoes are the worst thing that happens all day, I guess I'm doing pretty good.

I saw 6 deer this morning cross the road right before I got to that spot, thankful I didn't hit any.  It was rain/sleeting this morning too on my way to work.  I turned on the wipers to get the rain off and it smeared/froze and made it hard to see.  Thankful that I didn't have a wreck  from all the stuff happening about the same time.

Sarba Ann, welcome home, wayward child.

I'm done on the website revamp.  It's not tremendously different than it was before, and it can certainly be tweaked more from here on out.  I need to keep up on it and not let it lay dead.

Take a look at it and click through the links, read the text, etc. and let me know if you see anything not working or any errors.

I really need to find a long-term cure for it. It's every. Single. Day now.

I guess I could stop eating altogether. That would help I think.
