NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A man stopped to pray while robbing a
woman in a wheelchair and apologized to her before he left
her home with her money, police in western Pennsylvania
said.
Thirty-two-year -old Christopher Perretti II, of New Castle, is
in the Lawrence County Jail awaiting a hearing on charges
including burglary and robbery.
Police were called to the home of the disabled New Castle
resident, whose name was not made public, around 10:30
p.m. on Sept. 30. The resident who called them said she had
opened the door after hearing a knock.
She said Peretti was outside and told her he needed money,
so she gave him $5, reported The New Castle News.
"That's not enough. I know you have more," he then said, she
told police. The woman said she began to pray as Perretti
pushed past her to take $20 from her purse.
"I'm sorry, I've never done this before. I'm desperate," he
allegedly told her.
Perretti apologized — though he didn't give the money back
— and knelt down as she prayed before running away,
leaving through the front door.
Police found him a short time later. He was arraigned and
place in Lawrence County jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond, The
New Castle News said.
