I run into this all the time, and I mean ALL the time. People will be talking about what they ate, I'll mention what I ate, and everyone will go ballistic because what I ate is not seen as food that fits at that mealtime. At least eating breakfast food for supper is common these days... more common than in years past anyway. But I still run into people expressing dismay when I eat scrambled eggs for supper, tuna fish for breakfast, etc.
So I am gathering information. Not so I can modify my dietary habits to conform to accepted norms, but so I can at least edit what I talk about. What do you consider proper breakfast food, what would be totally ludicrous to eat for breakfast, and why would it be so out of place to eat that for breakfast? Same thing with the other meals - what would you eat for breakfast but not for lunch or supper, and why would you not eat them for lunch or supper?
We don't call you Weird Cat for nothin'. :smirk2:
To date you are the only one to use such an appellation. What is really weird is that the lone person to call me that has a weird bird in his avatar.
No, "we" call you that. Trust me.
Weird cat :laughhard: , as a former third shift worker it's all good for breakfast. :thumbsup2:
Well I hate breakfast "burritos" or whatever.
I don't think Mexican should be mixed with breakfast food! Just ain't right!
Funny you should post this topic. I just texted Roscoe this morning saying I thought M&M's should be considered a proper breakfast food.
Normal breakfast foods (Bacon, Sausage, Ham, Eggs, Omelets, Pancakes, Biscuits, Gravy, Waffles, etc), are just...normal. Bland really. lve mentioned this to my wife several times, but I would rather have something different. I know this is not what you are asking per se, but I am ready to try something different. But not chocolate gravy. I seriously question the smarts of people who like that stuff.
:ugly:
What I would like to know (and try) is what other cultures/countries consider normal breakfast. I would like to try some of their fare.

As bad as I hate to trust Seth, you might want to listen to him this once
When I was in Africa in 2005, for breakfast we ate Grilled Fish and Bread with Orange Marmalade.
I love all kinds of ethnic food but I don't think I know many breakfast meals. Aside from fruit & cream with a varied bread.
Jeremy if u come up here we could go to some different restaurants. Nathan loves all kinds of food period. Lol
There's always tea, scones, crepes... I think fresh baked things in the cool of the day is universal.
Just about anything leftover is suitable breakfast food to me. Even peppers. I love sandwiches for breakfast.
And I agree...trust Seth on this one! :hypocrite:

The bolded is a lie. Arkansas is another culture and you wouldn't even try the chocolate gravy when I offered to buy it. And it is considered a normal breakfast here. :hypocrite: :hypocrite:

Is chocolate gravy basically like hot fudge topping? Or brownie batter? Do they have caramel gravy too? What about strawberry gravy?

All of the above just seriously grossed me out thinking about it....LOL
Mellow, chocolate gravy is like none of the above. It's more like really thin chocolate pudding, but not quite... It's hard to explain, and if you run into a place where they make it icky sweet it can put you off on the whole idea. You just have to try it.
I was asking what foods are widely considered weird to eat for breakfast, lunch or supper, but all I get are responses related to foods not normally eaten for breakfast. So from what I understand all stereotypical "breakfast" foods are okay to eat for lunch or supper, but some stuff just isn't okay to eat at breakfast?
Homer Simpson once said that Beer wasn't just for Breakfast anymore! :freaky2:
Chocolate Cake and Grapefruit juice is not breakfast food, neither is Rice Pudding or cold pizza! All taste great for Breakfast.
Coney Dogs with extra onions are not considered part of a balanced breakfast. (I've known people who eat it as well as Tuna Omelets with Grape jelly).
Chips and Salsa is for Lunch or supper, not breakfast and never ever tuna and banana Bagels

You open that pandora's box and expect straight answers from the gang at GP? How long have you been posting now? Did you forget just who you were expecting serious answers from? A guy who lives with chickens, a donut addict cop who leaves his M-15 on his patrol car trunk and countless office workers who think Starbucks is a food group?

Aye, a cogent point. But I was hoping to at least glean some relevant bits of data.

I would think most whole grains or cereals would be weird to eat outside of breakfast. Oatmeal, ect. Rice, as a side dish would be ok outside breakfast.
Hamburgers for breakfast is strange, although I have done it. Its not something I would tell everyone about though. They would think it was weird. For that matter, a chili cheese coney would be strange breakfast food. Veggies of most sorts would be strange breakfast foods, unless cooked in with other breakfast items.
Potatoes are a cross platform food item. Hash browns, fried taters, mashed potatoes...but while hash browns could be eaten for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, mashed potatoes would be strange for breakfast.

What .... Nawww....I eat sweet rice and toast for dinner all the time! lol
Weirdo.

BBPs are acceptable for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Or whenever.
As are salads, but I done got foundered on salads and they all taste like poop to me currently. :smirk2:
And how, pray tell, do you know what poop tastes like?
We eat breakfast for supper all the time. Eggs, bacon (turkey or beef), pancakes (or waffles), hash browns and maple syrup is the supper of champions!

YES YUm!
Then why is a tuna sandwich for breakfast seen as weird?
Also why is coffee perfectly fine in the morning, but people will say it's too early for chocolate? Caffeine = caffeine, and chocolate tastes better if you get some good quality dark chocolate.

I mix hot coco and Coffee all the time; half cup of coffee, half cup of hot coco. I also eat Coco Wheats and Chocolate Maypo for breakfast.
Okay substitute something else for tuna. Why is it widely considered weird to eat a hamburger for breakfast, or fried catfish, eggplant parmesan, chicken livers, ribeye steak or whatever? If pancakes are okay for supper, why are some things normally eaten for supper not okay for breakfast?

Substitute Hamburger for Steak when having Steak and eggs, or hamburger sandwich with Egg and Cheese on a bagel.
If you are trying to start an argument - good luck, folks here will just continue to paste in their food choices and/or make fun of you. You might want to wave the white flag!
I'm trying to narrow down which lunch or supper foods are considered weird for breakfast, and why.
Some things just are, just because they are.

Ma'am...in all honesty, I my nerves wouldn't be able to handle such a thing. LOL The food, yes, the preaching, no...LOL
I would say that people tend to eat less bold flavors in the early morning. Whatever bold is to the individual.
I can totally handle bell peppers in stuff in the morning but not hot & Spicy.
But I actually rarely eat breakfast so by time I do eat, anything's game.
We'll feed u till you're lethargic... Lol
Shoot....he's already lethargic.
Dont insult me with words that cause me to open a dictionary....
breakfast is generally that...breaking your fast...and it's not really a good idea to eat really heavy foods after a fast - such as steak. *shrugs* I know breakfast is the most important meal of the day and all, but breakfast foods were generally agreed to be lighter and easier on the stomach
I ate a hamburger with thick slice of onion yesterday for breakfast.
Nothing wrong with that!
My grandfather was big on breakfast and I have never been. I remember in high school he'd wake me up for school and tell me that breakfast was almost done. When I lived there he insisted on 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, bowl of Wheaties (with fruit) and 2 pieces of toast before I could go to school.
When I was back at my parents, they were both gone to work and I could just have pop tarts and a pepsi.
Hooray for Pepsi! :D
YUK!
Coke is better!
And there is NOTHING like an ice cold can of Coke, first thing in the morning!
I always drink a large glass of water first thing in the morning. Sometimes juice. But then I'm not that big on sodas.

Ohhh make some toast, put some cream cheese on it, sprinkle some sugar on it, then slice up some strawberries and put it on the top.....DELISH!

I eat leftovers for breakfast a lot...and I eat eggs anytime of the day...I don't normally eat pancakes for supper though...
Food is food...it's whatever you are in the mood for!
I think I eat pancakes for dinner more than I eat them for breakfast haha
Jenn, they just seem too heavy....so they only work as a lazy day breakfast...
Lazy day is good day. :D
Funny this thread should be revived today, of all days. Yesterday I stopped by a country store and picked up some muenster cheese. This morning I had scrambled eggs and muenster on sourdough toast. While it was cooking I grabbed a bite or two of pecan pie. Very good.

I've seen chocolate orange tea but never tried it. As chocolate and orange go well together, I imagine it was good.
