Anyone ever read this book... picked it up, because as a single guy I wanted to know why I was reduced to a breakfast food... and the single ladies got be a gourmet Italian food...
Lots of interesting insights in this book, and wondering if anyone has every read it...

never read it but I would wonder why the men get to be the sweet light- morning food while the women are the heavy evening food. But then it might seem like a visual statement too? Men may be compartmentalized like the squares on a waffle, one flavor, not complicated, while women are intertwined with deep flavors of contrast (sauce to noodles).
hahaha, let us know how it goes, I know marriage books but come up short when asked about reads that address specifically singles.
I've read it, Yooper. Made a lot of sense. Guys compartmentalize. Girls mix everything together. Guys can go to a box with NOTHING (*gasp*) and be perfectly happy. Girls let everything get all mixed up and tossed together and it all runs togetherandtheproblemsthatseemtotallyunrelated somehow mix together.
Yeah. It's an interesting read for sure.
I have lots of books for singles, as I work with the singles ministry in my church, but I've started to read more books on relationships in general now. Seems to help more than the singles books at times. The book "Love and Respect" changed my life.
Oh yeah!
The Five Love Languages is a great read, too.
I bought the Singles version, but haven't read it yet.

waffles don't have to be sweet, its all what you put in the batter - you could make garlic waffles that would go really well with spaghetti...
Garlic waffles...? Hmmm... first time I have thought about that... wouldn't do too well to have Garlic breath that early in the mornin though... I think that is why spaghetti is an evening meal.
is there ever really a good time of day to have garlic breath?
As an alternative I'm thinking one could do a cinnamon sugar-glaze spaghetti creation that would go well enough with sweet breakfast waffles

That is sounding more and more like a funnel cake... which uses waffle batter, and looks like deep fried spaghetti... so is that like the perfect person?
A mix between the norm (waffles) and the completely complicated spaghetti...?
I was kinda thinking of funnel cake too... but they always leave me feeling unfulfilled and a little sick so I really hope thats not what the goal is
Funnel cakes are awesome... but I always stop at one as to not hurt my stomach too much... too much of a good thing is bad...
Peanut Butter and Chocolate fudge is even better... but only in small amounts... I wonder how that would taste on a waffle...?

YYD - I think your second guess was the correct one. The happiest marriages I've observed are the ones where both people went far out of their way to meet the needs of the other person... most especially when they themselves didn't understand that need. Quick and easy example: sometimes when a woman is under stress she needs her man to just give her a listening ear and a hug. Other times she wants his viewpoint and advice. Men in general (from what I've observed of the guys in my own life) tend to think every problem should be "fixed" by him, and they don't seem to "get it" that sometimes all she needs is a hug. *shrug* The men I've seen that offer their wife a hug (instead of offering advice all the time) seem to have the happiest wives.
My thoughts only... you might see it differently. :)

Did you read the book... you almost paraphrased a whole chapter... lol... Guys are fixers. We tend to want to fix everything, even if we're not totally sure it is broken.
And for sure I have seen that sometimes ladies just want a hug, and not fix-it to the problem... time for me to learn to just shut-up sometimes... (getting better!) haha

Ruby, I think that is probably one of the hardest thing for us guys to since. So if you find yourself in that situation, you got to give your guy a clue which way he should be thinking on this one. Since if it is a problem, and we want you to be happy, we automatically try to figure out how to solve the problem.

*nod* You make complete sense there. I can understand where men would take the "fix it" attitude automatically (after all, God kinda wired you all that way, it seems - in many areas of life *smile*). But I think generally, unless a woman specifically asks for help, or advice, or something along that line... I think generally men should assume a listening ear and a hug are what's needed.
I feel incredibly blessed to have a fiance that seems to have a 6th sense on this one. He seems to instinctively know when I need a suggestion for a solution to the problem, or when I just need an arm around my shoulders. Last July when he was up here visiting me and my family, we thought a friend ours was dying - a man who has been like a grandpa to me. (He ended up living for about three more months, but the particular day I'm thinking of it didn't appear he was even going to live through the night.) If Chris had immediately started offering "encouragement" in the form of Scripture, or telling me I shouldn't cry because death was a natural part of life, it would have devastated me I think. Later that evening when I'd calmed down somewhat I was able to talk about it and we both were reminding each other of Scriptures that really DID bring encouragement, but in the moment I needed him to just hold me while I cried.
Okay, I'll quit bragging on my man so you guys won't start gagging... and so Chris won't be TOO embarrassed. ;)
Jon, I do know this, as well... some of us gals were raised to be pretty independent. Sometimes too much so. And I'll admit there are times when Chris has given me a very pointed look when I'm struggling to do something that he could easily help me with. It's been a growing thing for me, and I'd like to think I'm getting better about admitting when I do need his help or advice on something. I'm glad he's so patient. *lol*
I think a lot of it may boil down to whether a woman thinks a man is genuinely trying to be nice, or whether he's really saying "here, let me help you with that, since you're obviously not capable of taking care of it on your own, you poor pathetic female, you." :lol:

Its been a long time since I've read the book but isn't the idea that the best match is going to be people that rank differently? In taking the test from two angles... I'm not so much of a praise giver (though I try) but validation is something that I really need... however I'm very much an acts of service and gift giver even though I don't need gifts at all or much service.
Basically, the acts of service around the home is MY thing (he can do his acts of service by bringing home the bacon and some yard work) If he's doing everything for me then I'd just feel worthless... guys that can really cook scare me LOL I need to have some tangible things that he "needs" me for. I need to feel like I do so much for him he'd be lost without me. I'm like this at work as well, if they don't call me with some emergency that only I can fix when I'm on vacation... it makes me feel cold inside LOL

My primary love language is words of affirmation, but there are times that I feel uncomfortable giving or receiving needed affirmation because it almost feels too personal.
Sometimes if you recognize that someone is doing something because they are interested, then it can also put a damper on the receiving part, because you feel like something is being required of you in a way.

I'm not single but took the test... that's the most comprehensive one I've seen online yet. Some tests are too hard to choose an answer. I think as I get older, my answers differ a little too.

RJ, I think your answer is great. It's funny that physical touch is #2 for me cause I am not a touchy feely person. I do not care for hugs from anyone but my husband. But I think because it is very personal for me. I have had to work and still do work on giving hugs to family and friends (females of course). I don't want to hug but I know that it means something to them and they are important to me. The Holy Ghost really helps with this and I think it's how Paul said he's all things to all men, obviously not everything came naturally easy to him.

I get so few compliments, that when I do, I rarely forget them.
the insults part, too, is very very true for me. i have to consciously remember that sarcasm and teasing isn't the same as an insult. to me, though, they all hurt the same. and maybe because kind words mean so much to me, i use them more and so people think i'm kind. that's not always true, but i'm glad people think that way. :pwink:

You don't think much of women, do you? I wasn't like that, my friends weren't like that, nor were my nieces. I never met a woman who was like the stereotype invented by men who wrote all those tv shows about pregnant women. There IS a hormonal shift, and they feel like crying for no reason sometimes, but some, even though they feel like it, don't. Or they just cry and get it out.
When a woman is around 8 months, they start to get excited about the baby, and nervous about when it will come. They get tired of a sore back and not being able to even see their feet, much less able to put on any shoes that you can't just step into.
As a matter of fact, there was a guy I know, that was a total jerk to his wife when she was pregnant. He wouldn't help her do anything. She was about due and couldn't tie her shoes and asked him for help tying them. He told her it was HER probem that she was pregnant and to take care of her own shoes. He didn't help her up the steps or anything. his MOTHER helped her with her shoes that day. His senior citizen mother got on her knees and tied her daughter-in-law's shoes.
That's only one of many stoiries I could tell about the jerkyness of men when their wives are expecting. But I don't say ALL men are jerks to their wives just becaues a few that I know were.

Actually, speaking as a gal who has met Yoop... he's respectful and kind to the women around him. Obviously, he loves to tease and banter, but don't let his stereotypes fool you into thinking he has a low opinion of women. *smile*

Actually I think the world of them... which is why I hope to never be asked by my wife if she is fat... I don't want to see her all upset over something she has no control over... and telling them, Your pregnant, your supposed to be fat seems like it would go over about as well as a flock of turtles... I have already had that discussion with a few gals in the past, and no matter what they are told... they think you are either telling them yes, or your telling them a lie!
As far as the above comment, I was joking... :) And as far as the type of guys you described... I myself would like to hang those kinds by their feet upside down and use them as a piñata...

It can go both ways, but I figure it took 2 people to get her in that condition, so that guy had better step up to the plate (not of food either) and take some action to help out the woman carrying his unborn child!
Some women really do have health issues when pregnant and are bedridden, and if that happens... the man really has to step up, and hope there is someone nearby that can help out too... :cool:

I wanted oranges all the time, but I love oranges when it's hot out, and at the time I was living in Minneapolis and it was 90+ in an apartment without air conditioning. And the store was a half block away. So I don't think it was really a craving. You might luck out and get one that doesn't have cravings.
