WE are the reason for the season!!

The past few days I have been reading the various accounts of Jesus birth in the Gospel's. I like to keep going back to what I like to call the "Non-Traditional" reading of the Christmas story in John 1.

John
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2The same was in the beginning with God.

3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

8He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

16And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

17For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

And John 3

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.


Many of us like to say "Jesus is the reason for the season", truthfully though I don't think God sees it that way. God I think would remind us that we are the real reason for the season. God saw man fallen in sin with no way out. He knew there was no way for us to save ourselves. So He left His throne and came to earth robed in flesh to save us from ourselves.

He knew what it would take and He new the great sacrifice He would have to make for us. Yet He did it anyway. He could have simply wiped the slate clean and started over if He had wanted to. He could have started from scratch instead of bothering with rebellious and sinful man.  He didn't though, He chose to come in the form of a helpless baby born in manger, He chose to spend 33 years walking among man so He could leave an example for them to follow, He chose to go to the cross and bleed and die for a sinful wretched person like me.

So when you look at it from God's point of view he wants us to realize the real message of love behind the season, that He loved you and me so much to leave heaven and come to earth just to save us! We were the real reason for the season all along!!!
