Magnitude 5.9 quake in Virginia felt in New York City, D.C.

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that a 5.9 earthquake has hit in Virginia 87 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.
The quake hit at 1:51 p.m. Eastern daylight time near Mineral, Va., according to the USGS website.
It shook much of Washington, D.C., and was felt as far north as Rhode Island and New York City and as far south as Chapel Hill, N.C.. Parts of the Pentagon, White House and Capitol were evacuated.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake was 3.7 miles deep.
